Very informative. I think we all began in the hobby just like you! I still have our fleet of Bugs drones!! we take them out every once in awhile for fun and to remember the fun we had in the early days of flight. We now fly professionally, FPV and camera drones. Obviously, the new DJI and other premium drones are MUCH safer for beginners than the HolyStones, Bugs, and all those we see on Amazon, mainly due to their short range, poorer quality transmission/control protocols and etc. Those Toy+ drones, as I like to call them, are actually more dangerous for the beginners, because they seem a 'logical' low cost place to 'get in' to the hobby. We soon discover, as you did, that these are likely to have many more unexpected incidents, fly aways, loss of signal connection (and they don't REconnect if you try, either!) So they are much more likely to commit an incident, in my opinion. I tell my friends to always start with a DJI. They are protected by the superior firmware and self-flight features of this product, over that of a Toy+ drone. Keeps them out of trouble until they develop awareness, knowledge, and skill... and they can have more fun, sooner, with the product.
All published specs are at ISA (International Standard Atmosphere) if weather is outside of that you are on your own! Well done for posting how it was for you. That takes honestly. I predict your drone journey will take you a very positive point.
Learned with a few of those no-name Amazone toys....I say a few cause lost a few...the one I did find sits on a shelf as a trophy!! Now fly DJI only. Live only a few hours from you(Chinook)!! Happy 24 flying!!
This sort of thing is probably a serious problem with cheap drones, without the signal from the controller it could pick up spurious RF signals, most more expensive ones will go into RTH in the event of signal loss
It sounds like he’s talking about toy drones, not hobby drones. I can turn off my Dji M2 controller when the drone is a mile away and it’ll fly back to me and land within 50cm of where it took off from. I watched the video because flyaways are really a thing of the past or pilot error these days, when the phantom was first launched in 2013, I bought one. The range was about 500 meters maximum and flyaway was a real problem. The only thing you could do about is was the CSC manoeuvre which is an emergency motor shut off, the possibility of drone damage was very real. The last drone I know of which had flyaway issues was the GoPro Karma, that was back in 2016. Issues and competition from Dji basically killed the Karma. Karma videos are still being uploaded to TH-cam, there are companies that still sell batteries for it. 😊
@@locouk Agree. My first drone, bought from scammers, an E58 knock off, now sits on the bottom of a lake. Partly due to my ignorance. Watching videos when people have a fly away with a DJI Mini 3 pro, I wonder how they did it. Once did fly, not away, but, to hell, into the top of trees. How? Flying sideways in sports mode not heading the desired way.... The function "find my drone" made it easy to find out were the drone was sitting. Getting there was another story, climbing 40 meters up a steep mountain side to find it. Being completely exhausted the next question was how to get down safely. The controller was put in the pocket and the drone inside the T-shirt. Asking the angels to guuide me did the rest. It was a Mavic 3 pro.....
I've been flying drones for a while I used to fly RC helicopters the real big ones so drones aren't that difficult will a strange thing happen today I had the drone pretty high up in the up in the air and all of a sudden it said something about my battery I know my battery had 60% and that was pretty safe and all of a sudden the drone went on its own and I somewhat panicked and all of a sudden the drone I don't have any idea where it was so I was looking at my map so right away I hit return to home so I'm sitting out in front of my house in about 3 minutes later I start hearing a drone buzzing around and it came back I feel very lucky I don't know what actually went wrong and what caused this so I'm checking all of my settings great video I have a DJI mini to never had a crash in about 3 months of owning it usually things go well but there's always the first time for an crash
I was raised close to the border with Canada and forgot how awesome Canadians are.
Thank you for remembering us. Happy flying and new year 👍
Thanks for sharing this video. This is good information for new and seasoned pilots alike.
Glad you found it helpful. All the best 🙂👍
8:51 6....be careful flying in sub zero conditions which could affect your aircraft 😊 or any other extreme conditions

lol dji s fly away same as the others
You forgot the most important point to this story. Never, never, ever shut the controller off before you shut down the drone!!!
Good point. It could have been emphasized better. Thank you. All the best!

Thank you! It has already changed my life quite a bit, for the better 😉
Imagine that happening in your house with a really fast drone. I have had that happen. Best to always turn on your remote before anything else.
Yes, definitely. Wow, in the house. Hope it didn't break anything!

Awesome! Kinda fly story too. I still remember my first time flying the Mini2. I couldn't believe how stable it went up next to our house 😆

Makes sense. Cheap drones are probably not worth buying, but I can understand why people do. Been there 😆
Fun episode. Fly safe! Hello from New York City. -TED NEMETH
Wow on someone's roof lol holly it flew further than you thought I bet. 😮 Great story brother. 💯
I watched it disappear.. LOL. My third flight ever 😁
@@TheOneDroneMan amazing you recovered it really.
They ll all do it . There isn’t a single one out there that won’t fly away or lose connections imho . Not even dji , the disconnect too
Strange take off. No DJI "Find my drone" available?

Sir, can I talk with you?

Glad it came back! Not sure what could be the issue. Since you mention a battery warning though. Maybe a connection issue??
Maybe someone took over the control of your drone 😂😂😂
I have no drone , but i have gusts to watch this 😅😅
Thank you for watching and sharing. All the best!
Dear, hope you had a chance to review the msg I've sent to you. Take love❤
Title doesn’t make sense.
My thoughts when I watched it fly away. Live and learn! Don't buy a Holy Stone 😉
Tip Or just buy a good drone.
Even good drones can fail, but it's a lot less likely. Thanks 😉
possible to home point is not updated. and it return to china :D
Ohh.. the magic of modern technology 😆. Happy flying 👍
