  • Today I will show you step by step how to replace the valve cover gaskets on your LS / Vortec motor and paint the valve covers while you're at it! If you have any valve cover oil leaks on your 4.8 5.3 6.0 LS/Vortec motor then this video is for you, if you are installing brand new valve covers this is for you, if you think that your valve covers would look much better painted a color, then this video is for you too!
    I break it down into...
    * Removing the Ignition Coil Mounting Bracket & Plug Wires
    * Removing the Valve Covers
    * Prep & Painting the Valve Covers with Heat Paint
    * Installing new gaskets
    * Putting it all back together (same as if you had new valve covers)
    I am demonstrating this on my 5.3 LS that I am putting into my 1966 C10 I call "Bandit", truck is a rescue/restomod with it's own playlist on my channel if you're interested in following the trucks journey back to life.

    Great job Travis. You are getting that motor whip into shape. You do such a great job putting these videos together with just the main information and none of the fluff. It looks very clean and professional. I was impressed with your circling the bolts animation.

      Thanks bro! While everything worked fine on the motor in the Burb, I figured with it on the floor, now was the time to knock out all the "freshen" up items. Thanks for the compliment, all my vids start out like 5 min longer then I try and go through and cut the fluff lol. Rather some one learn something than hear me ramble. How goes your shop progress?

      @@CLASSICSAREBETTER I've got my permit and everything approved. Hopefully starting excavation any day. The contractor is still about a month out from starting on the building so hoping more rain doesn't set me back any further. Was hoping to have the building up already.

    Nice job brother. They look even better in person. Enjoyed the Cooper cameo appearance.

    Just did this job on my Escalade. Didn’t use any etc to hold the gaskets and apparently it came dislodged in the rear and caused a leak I chased for weeks! Wish I would have watched your video sooner. 😂

      Oh man I been there lol! Atleast it was the gasket and not the rear seal leaking. I appreciate you watching, best of luck on your Escalade.

    Do you have to take of the manifold

    • @CLASSICSAREBETTER
      @CLASSICSAREBETTER  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You should be able to get valve covers off with out removing the manifold. I only had my manifold off to pull the motor and to replace my knock sensors. Good luck!!!

    Did you use original oil pan or change for low clearance pan?

    • @CLASSICSAREBETTER
      @CLASSICSAREBETTER  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used the original oil pan, only sticks out maybe half inch or so down past my crossmember, if I had swapped the motor into a car then I would have pulled the trigger on a lower clearance pan.

      @CLASSICSAREBETTER did you have to remove original transmission mount ?

      @@ambrizj11 I removed the tranny mount on the suburban to pull out the motor/trans, but I was able to keep my turbo350 tranny mount where it was in the c10.
