    Good idea only thing that would be better is making the sanding surface bigger so the head can be turned sideways to get a cross hatch pattern an help get a more uniform flat surface.

      I get that. But had to work with what I had. And I was making sure I was turning it side to side to make sure it was getting a cross hatch. May of not looked like it but I was turning it as I was going to

      If you want, you could get a big chunk of steel and flatten it.
      Use valve compound and lube to achieve the same effect but you have a bigger surface so you can do what you want.

    For taking off the exhaust manifold just heat them enough with a propane torch so the heat can expand the screw and get it to loosen easier

    Take an old treadmill an electric one, get you a thick piece of flat steel the same length of the treadmill run your belt that you get made over the top of the steel and run a hose pipe over it or a garden hose with water and maybe put a little soap in it. You could use a parts washer pump and recycle the water if you wanted too it works great. just do not get carried away and cut way too much off of a head you need to mic it first.
    Whatever it is, you are resurfacing just make sure you do not cut too much off of it because it will do it really quick and that also depends on what grit sandpaper you are using.

    I resurfaced my cylinder heads on a Dodge 318 v8 using a belt sander. I used almost no pressure on the sander. Just a few passes on each head and I checked them with a straight edge and a flashlight. All good. It's been running since 2006.

    Hello from Oamaru Sth island New Zealand.
    Do you advise to dress head gasket with Hylomar spray on prior to installation?.

    • @bobirving6052
      @bobirving6052 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn’t hear if hylomar here. We don’t have Nissan diesels either.
      We do have copper spray gasket which is good on MLS (steel) head gaskets.

    i have a question though, when you resurface a cylinder head, does it reduce the thickness of the surface, or it only removes the dirt?

    • @TehNouk
      @TehNouk หลายเดือนก่อน

      It removes a tiny tiny bit of the material itself to get whole surface completely flat

    • @joemana2271

    • @Joespower
      @Joespower 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@joemana2271there's usually a tolerance. You can remove a few thousandths and you're ok. Sometimes you can even get a thicker gasket to even it back out. Just find out what the tolerance is for your particular head and don't exceed it.

      The glass plate is the perfect flat surface. Like he said, needs to be a certain thickness so it doesn't bend or warp.

    I wouldnt recommend this method for a mls gasket. Or you should do this method first then switch to 220 grit. You need at least a 18RA finish for mls gaskets.
