For anyone who may be on the fence on whether or not the $18 a month is worth it I can tell you that it is 100% worth it. I’ve been a patron of his for a year now and I have learned more and improved more in a year than I have the previous 20 years that I’ve been painting. He’s an incredible teacher. Even the $28 per month is worth it in my opinion.

I just cut out HBO, and NETFIX. so it's essentially free. Lol

There's an effect where higher taxes gives less income to the state, can't find the name or Wikipedia page for it right now.
Raising the price might be the decision for some lurkers to not continue to pay and left are a few enthusiasts that have the time to spend to actively learn to paint.
For me, I only paint on the weekends mostly and sometimes it's more sporadic than that. Life gets in the way you know. I don't think I'm prepared to pay the equivalent of 2 Netflix for more material than this. I don't even have time to consume all the painting tips content I find.
Better(for people like me, and I think we are many) would be to make it cheaper on patreon, and have like Udemy courses with focused content that are new and time-exclusive to that content.
All this said, I do find this channels video superb. Thank you!

I really wish I could. Unfortunately, a single dollar in my local currency = 6 bucks. There are so many artists I'd like to support on Patreon. Hopefully I can do so in the future

Yep. And just cut out Netflix, and HBO, and door dash, and you're good!

I like how you show how and why it's important to let background details blend in the background, and that a reference photo doesn't need to be a perfect draft of the picture! Really considering the online lessons!

Learning to paint looser and daily has been very helpful. If it works early on I can add or leave out any details I want.

It's really helpful to actually see you work on a painting from start to finish! I'm a student and unfortunately can't afford the patreon right now regardless of price, so thank you for sharing. Even though I watched the whole thing it's still hard for me to imagine painting this in 30 minutes. I'm very slow 😅

Dude I learned so much from this video. I haven't even started on my first oil painting, I'm watching a bunch of these types of videos on how to start a painting or do a whole one quickly first so I won't feel too intimidated. Definitely signing up for the $18 tonight so I can jump into painting when I get back stateside next week.

I have a random question about cool and warm colors... the colors on your pallete are a mix of warms and cools and you mix them randomly. I am being taught to only mix cool colors with cool colors and not to mix cool and warm colors unless you want a neutral. But a neutral wont "move" forward or back. And it's being said that the pigments in warm oil paint move forward and the pigments in cool colors move back... like chemically. But some cool paints just don't mix the color I'm going for. What am I missing?

That's a good question. I need to make a video on color temperature soon to answer this fully.

Great process tutorial, one simple question: what is the liquid stuff you use to clean your brushes? I have ruined a lot of mine and now because I don't know how to clean them 😢😢 thank a lot.

Are you using Cobra with water in this Tute? Are your patron tutes based on trad or water sol? The Patron lessons seem perfect for me - I love the idea of picking a painting based on the skills I need to develop. Plus, 30 mins is great.

Great video Chris, makes me want to get the paints out. Have you looked into the 'skool' platform at all? I'm considering moving there from patreon as the course/ community layout is much better. Think it might suit your tutorial grouping style better too.

It's off subject for this video, but I looked thru other videos trying to find out your suggestions/explanations for how to convey emotions in portraits. Smiles, frowns, sadness, etc. Eyes, teeth, wrinkles, it gets a little overwhelming.
