These close-up comparisons, particularly of how you decide between the answers, are so helpful! The cheek-related and flesh-softness questions always confuse me.
every time i think i have it figured out i learn some more about each one. i cannot decide. i sometimes think i have a soft gamine face, or soft classic, soft natural, or theatrical romantic! or that my face and body do not match
Okay so first observe ur bone structure by taking a pic of yourself. Is it long narrow and sharp, broad and blunt, moderate, delicate small and narrow or delicate small and wide. Then observe ur body figure, is it straight long and narrow, is it wide and muscular, is it propotionate and moderate or curvy and lush. Finally ur face, do have sharp and narrow , wide and blunt, moderate or soft and lush features.
Love this! You are so right, TR and SG are very similar and therefor it’s important to look at the details. I knew I was a TR when I saw alyarts video about makeup for the body types and she said that TRs looked good with shimmer on their cheeks whilst SGs looked better with matte makeup. It also took me a long time to figure out my body type because of the sexy stereotype about TRs and I’m glad that you seek to disprove these stereotypes in most of your videos
The stereotype for Soft Gamines always threw me off from thinking I was one. I've never been called cute - rather, I've gotten more comments on how I look 'sexy'. These stereotypes can really make the journey of finding your Kibbe type difficult.
I always wanted to dress cute, but it never felt right with my energy and body and I am a theatrical romantic. I now feel most comfortable in sexy clothing rather than cute. After learning about the kibbe body types I know why.
You should check out my video on Rachel McAdams (TR), I think when TR dresses in pure romantic lines, it can bring out their delicate angularity and make them look more like SG. I showed some examples in that video briefly.
I have always been more 'cute' than 'sexy'...But I am definitely not a gamine, nothing about the gamines resonates with me, except the cuteness, but as you said that is a just stereotype and not even a real G/SG trait. So definitely TR. I feel kind of weird, I feel like everyone is confused with those two body types, but to me there is a obvious difference between the two haha. I was actually unsure whether I was a classic when I first took the test, but I guess that's probably because of my preferred style + the fact that when you're a solid type and not a gamine (which is a 'random' mix of yin & yang traits), you look sort of 'harmonious' with your own traits, and I had mistaken that for balanced, if that makes sense.
Yes to your whole comment! Especially the importance of understanding the difference between 'balance' of yin/yang, vs 'balance' as we sort of use it in a hand-wavy way in society to mean 'proportional' or other things!
Thank you, this video was especially helpful! I am a cute TR :P Without banishing the stereotypes I would've never known... One of the things that helped me identify myself as TR is actually jewellery! Soft Gamines seem to look better in studs, and things that hug the ear. Theatrical Romantic I think looks better in dangly earrings, like chandelier earrings, also filigree type jewellery.
I'm a TR and I don't wear dangly earrings. I like to wear small hoops, I used to always wear studs but prefer something more visible. I knew that I was TR as soon as I started this journey ,but I wanted confirmation due to many conflicting videos and my feet being romantic, having kind of slightly wide ankles and being a pear shape. The second quiz I looked at was shouting Tr and my wardrobe was shouting Tr at me. Seeing a video highlighting pear shaped can be TR too added the cherry on top. 👌 I always see TR`s on these types of videos looking like hourglass or not far off. My shoulder and waist are very narrow, my hips are 37 inches and my chest is 30b and that is my skeleton not weight gain or muscles . It was really nice to hear I was on the right track, because I couldn't see myself in any of the examples.
I am definitely either a TR or SG. Now, I an leaning more towards SG because I think my shoulders are a bit more wide and angular for a TR. My face also has more yang features (thin lips, high cheekbones, kind of blunt jawline and eyes are small).
I know it's very hard ,at least for me to find your type but you can try many type of clothes/fashion to see which kind suit you the most, might take a long time , but i did find mine by this way
I've been watching many of your videos and want to say thanks for being one of the few people online who explain the Kibbe types so well! Especially after I just read a blog about why Rihanna can't be a TR with all the typical wrong assumptions used as arguments (like being tall = having a vertical line, and not having small hands = can't possibly be more on the yin side ...) After doing the test 3 times (with info from two websites, your video and that of Aly Art) it's clear I'm somewhere between R and TR and now I understand why SG elements look great on me! This is helpful because it gives more options to experiment with.
I just took the long ass Kibbe Test and I finally found my body type ..... The Theatrical Romantic ....... It has been a pleasure, I am so glad I discovered not only the color analysis system but now the Kibbe Test, ..... Thank you Merriam ..........
My results often change between soft-gamine, theatrical romantic, soft classic and flamboyant gamine but one thing for sure is that your absolutely right about the stereotypes. They completely threw me off from both.
I had my photos by the side and compared them to each image in the video. I even had a ruler with me for calculation of proportions and ratio. Thank you for uploading such an enlightening video!
This is the one I've been waiting for, thanks so much Merriam! I'm a Theatrical Romantic but still a bit 'cute' and love to do a Soft Gamine or preppy look. I also think l have a bit of ingenue essence... is this a possible combination and even for a post 50yo woman??
I find it quite hard to tell romantics and theatrical romantics apart, and I can't decide which type I'm closer to. Could you maybe do a comparison video between the two, explaining the differences in a deeper analysis
Yes is how you gain weight. If you gain weight everywhere but mostly arms, stomach and hips then romantic. If you gain weight only around the chest and hips no waist then TR
She has actually done a video comparing those, plus SN, it's in the 2nd part of the teddy bears video. Not with fully broken down answers to the test but it can be helpful to you for now.
Wow, this video was a great comparison. Thank you, this has really helped me finalize my Kibbe ID as Soft Gamine. I have more angularity in my bone structure but still have yin fleshiness with some elongation.
Really appreciate this video, it’s made me realise I’m a TR! However, I do wonder whether Rihanna truly is a TR as she’s actually 5ft 8 and looks to me to be more of a soft dramatic (similarly to Tyra Banks) I can understand in certain photos and editing she looks TR but I think overall she’s actually more SD
I didn't feel fully TR until I put on a baroque style jewelry. I think us TR girls can totally rock it (along with soft dramatics) while other types would look strange wearing it.

I feel like the main problem for me with these celebrity comparisons is that in order to be a celeb, you will already be smaller and thinner (also more symmetrical, with less unique features) than most normal women and your face will look more classic or shall we say smooth anyway because that's what looks good on the camera. Plus lots of makeup. I would really benefit from a comparison of "normal" women, without make-up. So not plus-sized but not as small as celebs.
My body ist mostly D answer and my face is C answer. I still look best with TR make up but I can rock classic make up but look extremely boring with classic clothes. Unfortunately I dont have much TR clothing but they were always my favourite. And SG clothes look good as well. But my hair can either lean more to classic and a bit softer and lighter. I am happy I could realize this thanks to your videos
Thanks Merriam! I clicked on this the moment I saw it, these are the two types I go back and forth between. I think what I took from your video was the importance of being able to see clearly and objectively. In my opinion, I look much better in TR than SG, but whenever I go to label myself TR I think that no TR could have my answer A nose or would be as wide as I am. Hopefully I will be able to afford one of your consults one day :)
I love your analysis of the Kibbe types! Even though you haven't talked about my two possible types I still learn a lot. Your comparison of the answers for each type and focus on specific distinguishing features is helpful and interesting. 🙏🌹💕
@@merriamstyle Based on what you have talked about the least so far: Dramatic classic, flamboyant natural or flamboyant gamine. Or perhaps dramatic. Anythign with more yang basically. Two comparison videos on theatrical romantics vs. soft dramatics and barely anything on these. I think I am a dramatic classic and really hope you make a more detailed video on those soon!
I *think* Dramatic Classic, maybe Flamboyant Gamine. As I view more of your videos and Aly Art's videos I am almost sure I am the first. Thank you so much for asking! ❤️
Same! I'm pretty sure I'm a flamboyant natural, but might possibly be a dramatic classic. I always feel like I'm in between those two. But all the videos seem to focus on the romantic body types.
Helped me figure out, I am TR and not SG. Delicate hands, jewellery - earrings. Less angularity in bones. That's why some gamine clothes didn't work for me, though several shift dresses works for me but not very boyish clothes.
Thank you for this! I thought I was a soft classic which feels a bit boring to me, but seeing this and Rhianna because I am 5’ 7” and she is my style icon I think I am a theatrical romantic.
What a great video! You are really putting things to the right with every new video of yours. What is still confusing me is the "weight situation" anyway... I know you made another great video on that topic, but still: How do I know that what I am looking at is the "yang skeleton" and not skeleton of someone being too underweight (because to me it seems that everyone who is too thin looks "angular")?
@@saraz5635 I wish you luck, girl! I had been kind of overweight for long time and then I had and injury and lost lot of weight and now some part of me are too thin and I can see my bones and some parts... are everything just not too thin :D AND I AM SO CONFUSED! :D Am I mix of opposites or just really lazy skinny-fat person?
I'll try to make a video on this! There are some things that are easier to see about the skeleton. I'd say for now don't focus so much on angularity. Instead, think about your nose, arms and legs, hands and feet, and vertical line. Those things are still relatively easy because they don't look so different with weight. If your arms and legs are long, then they're A or B, if they're short, then they're D or E (doesn't matter if they're angular or not). Nose also doesn't change much with weight, and size of hands and feet too. :) Jawline and cheekbones can be harder since they could appear to be more angular than they are. You could compare Jennifer Love Hewitt and Keira Knightley and see which one they look more similar to. But even then, maybe you don't need to know those two-three answers to figure out your body type if you know all the others and can narrow it down, then try on clothes!
Merriam Style Thank you for answering so in depth! It always feels as if you really want to help and spread information about these topics! :)) Keep it up!
I have this same problem, as I am underweight but still know that I have yin flesh... just not enough of it anymore! But now I am really confused because I was sure I was a soft gamine but as Merriam went through this point-by-point, I saw myself much more in the TR. But I don't have an hourglass figure, at all! My waist is really quite wide in proportion to my hips, and even when I had more on the hips I never had boobs. And I definitely look better when I wear more details rather than less, so I don't think I can be a classic. Plus my bones are really small, like bird bones, haha. And I have ong legs but shorter arms. So by process of elimination I think I'm still SG. But I'm more confused now!
No way is she gamine of any kind! I always thought she was a Soft Natural, her face looks Soft Natural and her body looks Flamboyant Natural...she doesn’t look small or gamine-like, infact she looks quite tall and slightly broad (compared to gamines). She looks amazing in draped/loose styles and ‘lion-mane’ hairstyles. Flamboyant gamines would never look good in draped/loose styles. Even with make-up, she looks most herself in blended looks with fresh colors (Soft Natural), and Soft Natural accessories. Flamboyant gamines are more angular/sharp, narrow, and smaller looking, eg. Gwen Stefani and Audrey Hepburn. Zendaya is much more more soft and blunt, she doesn’t have any sharpness (except maybe on her shoulders idk).
I've learned so much from you! I already knew I was theatrical romantic, but I still enjoyed watching the video. I don't particulary like that I'm TR but I am and I will work with it :) you're so right about the strereotypes... they're so persistant and harmful. Btw. If you have time, can you tell me would you concider Brigitte Bardot signature hairstyle as a TR one or not?
Amazing video Merriam! as always! still not decided what I am :(((( i thought soft classic, but am not sure am that balanced, i have a child like face but a woman's body lol but with some angularity as well, curvy but not extreme like a romantic will be...is so difficult lol
I have a tummy bulge from having 2 c sections so it’s kind of hard to tell what my true shape is rn. The test typed me as a pure romantic, but I still have wandering thoughts between theatrical romantic and soft classic. My waist is smaller than my hips but not nearly as dramatic as Marilyn or Beyoncé. My face is mostly rounded though, I don’t see much angularity. My thighs are the fleshiest part of my body, along with my arms, shoulders sloped, and 5,5 but I’ve always felt taller or “bigger” than many my friends. I always thought my lips were small but according to this system, they’re “lush”. So I just don’t know anymore.
Try on some of the line or outfit recommendations! I thought I was gamine, until I tried gamine lines and they are NOT for me. It can help a lot when our biases or answers make it hard to type ourselves. It's about which clothing lines and shapes look best on you.
After taking the quiz multiple times, and watching your videos, I’m quite sure I’m a Romantic. I toyed with SG and TR, but I have very little to no yang. My answers are almost entirely D and E. I am a busty hourglass of average height with a short waist. What throws me is that my best hair look is a pixie, in fact the shorter my hair is, the more feminine I look. That seems quite contrary to what is recommended and/or described for Kibbe Romantics. High necks aren’t my best look, but I also look off when I show too much skin. I definitely need waist definition. I don’t know that anyone would ever see me as “sexy”, but my body is very womanly. I am always mistaken for being much younger than I am, and a friend of mine calls me “dollface”. I don’t think anyone would ever describe me as dainty however, and I don’t see Ingenue in my look. I think you can see my confusion, lol. I suppose my real question is how important is hair in the overall scheme of things? Is having an overall facial/hair look of a Gamine but a distinctly Romantic body a “type”? Perhaps I’m missing something, and I so want to understand. Thank you so much for all of your helpfulness and hard work. It is greatly appreciated!!
Merriam, thank you for all the work you put in, it's greatly appreciated! I have a couple of questions about the yin/yang balance when it comes to theatrical romantics. First: what's your thought on women who have a slight yang undercurrent in the facial features, not in the bone structure, but where the rest of the test answers are D and E? My sister has all D and E answers in her skeletal bones (body and face) and body flesh, but her eyes and lips are B and A. That doesn't fit the description of her yang undercurrent coming from her bones, but she's still primarily yin with a slight yang undercurrent and looks amazing in TR clothing. Would she still be considered TR? Second: I also wonder about women who have wide and round bones like romantics, mostly E answers,, but with a slight yang undercurrent in the facial bones (all flesh = yin). I find that most examples of theatrical romantics are women who are not as wide as romantics, more delicately feminine. But if you have E answers in flesh and bones (body), and therefore have a body who looks romantic, but with some sharpness in the facial bones, you'd still be theatrical romantic...? I love these comparison videos, they're a great help!
My shoulders have certainly started to look different after weight training. I used to have very fleshy, soft and round shoulders but losing some weight followed by resistance training has made them more angular. I personally like the soft gamine style better but I might be TR.
I am confused with this. I have all Romantic Feautures in Body (I am/ I look small, I have extremly small hands and foots, I have roundet shoulders, theese hourglas- figure (?), small arms and legs...), but on the other side, my face is a mix between Natural (wide, blunt jawline and nose), Classic (medium eyes and mouth) and romantic (rounded, soft cheekbones, round, thick cheeks ) Feautures in Face? what type shouldt that be? if you see my face, you couldt say, i am an natural, cause the jaw and the chin is blunt and my nose also. but how couldt it be that my body looks so romantic? I am also very small, even petite, my hands are the smallest I ever see on a adult person. Otherwise people think I am a Teenager, cause of my looks. I thought first maybe couldt it be TR but TR is most R with Dramatic and not natural or classic. And Soft Gamine is a mixture of opposites, with more romantic feautures, but just my face has a bit of these feautures, my body is completly romantic, and the cheekpart in face also. And also has gamine no classic feautures, and they have big eyes... I think I have an moderat size of eyes, but not huge. So I have to less Natural feautures, that you could say I am a Soft Natural... and to less classic feautures to say, I am an SC... So what could it be? ps i am sorry English isn't my first language 😅😅
Great video, love this channel. I've already learned a lot from you! I hope you'll make a video on classic gamine. I find that there's not much to find about this type; more about the subtypes of gamine. Even Kibbe's list of gamines is short and there are almost no contemporary celebrities typed as gamine. I have the impression that a lot of fashion advices for this type are a little old fashioned. It's hard to find clothes in contemporary fashion that look really gamine.
It's because Kibbe eliminated Gamine (along with a couple of other pure types) from his system. Emma Watson and Ellen Page are definitely contemporary celebrities that are Gamine.
@@evamartens8074 What I know about it is that Kibbe said that everyone tends to lean more yin or yang so that rules out middle ground types of C, N, and G. Which might be the case for many people but not all so I don't fully agree with him.
thank you so much for your videos! I've been trying to type myself for ages and it was always so hard to see myself objectively. I watched yours and then AlyArt's kibbe test video and I finally got it. This video is especially helpful, watching it now after typing myself I'm like "aha!". Before I would get stuck in gamine, because I can have a "cute" essence, my face looks much younger than I am, everything is very cute/girly/dolly yada yada, but that doesn't really feeeel like me. In FB gamine groups I'd get told I must be a yang gamine because I pull off dramatic/edgy looks, but if I dress without waist definition I usually look like a child wearing a potato sack, so that never felt right at all. I felt at home in TR looks and thought it must just be my "taste" and not really my true style since everyone said gamine. Today after watching you and Aly's videos and taking the Kibbe test again I got TR and I finally feel so seen! It's like having tried to fit myself in the square hole this whole time and turns out I'm a round peg hahaha and no wonder, most of my answers were D and E, there's no sharpness in my bone structure. Just because you are petite and look "cute" doesn't mean you're a gamine. Also, you don't have to be "chubby" to be a romantic, many examples of romantics I'd seen were fuller figured women and because I'm slim I thought I could never be one. But my mother is a clear girly-faced romantic and I'm a slimmer version of her body. I'm typing all this so hopefully it helps someone else that is as confused as I was. Thank you so much for all your time and work
Romantic gain more weight in the stomach, arms and hips. TR gains weight in the hips and chest without loosing shape in the waist. That's why romantics are seen a more bigger
I was really confused about my type especially because I've always been skinny and didn't know how to differentiate between yin and Yang but, now it's more clear for me and I'm starting to notice the subtle differences .. so thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and observations ❤️
Please make a Theatrical Romantic vs Soft Natural vid .... As a TR I notice that since SN's have a few answer D's and E's wirh a slight hourglass , it can be difficult to differentiate between a SN wirh and a TR ..... There is also the fact TR's can look alright with slightly loose clothes ......
I re-took the test the test after watching this video again. To preface, I had typed myself as SG. I now have a lot of clothes in SG lines and love how I look and feel in them, both in the mirror and in pics. My results, after going back through and watching examples from Merriam on each question, are A=4, B=2 (including one facial feature that is not on the test, forehead, because I have a broad and prominent forehead and I think it's an important facial feature for me), c=1 (vertical line, I'm 5'2"), D=5, E=5. Face is all D/E except for lips (a) and forehead (d). Body is real mix of yin/yang. Overall balance the way I'm looking at it would be 6 for A/B, 10 for D/E, with more yin in the face. SG sounds right, right? Or should I head down to the mall and try on some TR outfits? I only have one TR'ish dress and I think I look good in it but I have never really tried anything else.
I'm going through all the pictures I took trying on dozens of clothes until I figured I'm an overweight, wide midsection TR, and I just noticed that what looks best on me are dresses or rompers that are short (mid thigh) with waist emphasis, and have a V-neck or a sweetheart neckline, kinda like Mila Kunis at 11:15. Her black dress would hit me in the right spots: nice cleavage, narrow waist and slender legs, while hiding my fat upper thighs and tummy. I can't tell if that's a SG or TR look, but it makes me feel great.
1:11 That is insane , so that is why I scored Theatrical Romantic everytime in one test but in a second test its descriptions were confusing when comparing them to the pics and I got a gamine .....
After watching all of your videos on multiple times feel like a theatrical romantic more than a soft gamine, although i feel like should one answer change and i might fall into a soft gamine type. But still my body flesh is more rounded and my bones are dainty and narrow with the exception of c shoulder, a pointy chin and narrow pelvis lol. No amount of workout is going to make my hips wider. I lean towards tr more, it feels very harmonious.
Thank you so much! This helps me know I'm not a soft gamine. It may suggest I'm a TR, but nothing about me is narrow. My features are mostly wide compared to my short frame, with some balanced features. My answers are 2 A (shoulders & hair), 4 C (all in my face), The rest of my body & all my skin is 11 D&E. Would this be R or TR?
I would also say romantic. Hair doesn't really matter, and shoulders are really only one thing. To be a TR, I would say you also need some angularity in your face (nose, cheekbones). But, as your face is very classic, I would suggest to 'tone down' the romantic a bit and go for looks that are between soft classic and romantic. A lot of the lines and looks are very alike anyway, particularly in more casual clothing.
Thanks for this video ma'am. I always thought I was soft gamine because I was more "cute" but I figured it was maybe because I was the youngest of the family 😀🙏🏽. Another thing that may help people figure out if they sg or tr is that Trs tend to have long vertical lines too( like Selena, Rihanna) and soft gamines have small vertical lines. Soft gamines i heard somewhere appear the most petite out of all body types.
Honestly, it is just so astonishing... I know one celebrity family... - Their dad is from Yemen, and their mom is European. - They look closer as sisters, than - for example, the Kardashisns-Jenners do. - One of them - is a solid Soft Dramatic. - Looks kinda like Monica Belucci with bangs, now. (Although I'm personally not sure about Monica's type...:) And the other girls seem to be a Flamboyant Gamine, and maybe a Romantic and another twin-Soft-Dramatic:)) And they all are alike, approximately the same height most and body image (I mean, when you see them with a quick glance), a lot of the same features...:)
From body description I am quite sure now that I am a TR, but it's really hard when it comes to clothing. I am a true autumn and I look veeeeery earthy. I also think my face looks more SN than TR, which Kibbe said doesn't matter, but it all adds to me just not looking very good in a lot of glitter and shimmer, fabrics like silk or things like tight lace or frills but I look better in soft knits and things like that. I look good in things like puff sleeves and big skirts y'know? Most examples for the body types and good silhouettes are red carpet looks and all. Can I be a TR and not be very glamorous? I'm quite new to all this, discovered the kibbe-verse a month ago. Could certainly use the advice :')
When you said soft gamines can tend to look more childlike when they dress glamorous that really resonated with me 😅 I love dressing glamorous and romantic but I can sometimes look like i’m playing dress up! thank you this video really helped me clarify what body type I fit more into
Wow! I never would have guessed I was soft gamine. I always FEEL really huge, but it’s all in my head I think. When I was doing the test I really liked the gamine style but I was convinced I would get something like romantic because I just don’t feel dainty.
I am 18,and yes I look usually like SG but I am TR because,I look weird in SG style, but when I am wearing even the most gentel lipstick I look like I am 24 glamorous girl,I think when I will get older my more and more TR than SG (I also look soo good in TG style) in SG outfits that once I thought I was SG I looked really silly in them, also my face are too soft like my nose is really soft and when I tried more growed up outfits,I looked great,it dose made me look a bit older, lol now I found what type of outfits look really lovely on me btw I am more cute than sexy but still TR
Ooh, I'm like you too! I think it's because 18 years old is still young so we will still look quite cute and sometimes like SG because we are not fully mature yet. When I wear TR, I get a lot of compliments too... Happy to hear some people are like that too..cute TR :D
@@Amanda-ke8gt yes girl, and my best friend is SG and people said we kinda look alike, but when I waer her style I just look weird,it just feel wrong (her style is soo SG and cute) people always said she is a fairy and I am a mermaid
@@Amanda-ke8gt yes,but still we are soo different I only have one SG shit that doesn't make me look weird 😅 usually I am wearing more romantic outfits because with TR I look older (24-26) but she look with my romantic outfits like a little girl lol she is soo cute
They say you won’t know your actual type until you’re in your 20s, in some cases until age 25 (that’s when your hips stop growing). I looked very ingenue/gamine in my early 20s, but matured into Theatrical Romantic in my mid 20’s and beyond. Some women can be gamine/ingenue in their early 20s, and then ‘mature’ into something else, even though others usually stay the same type.
AHHH!!@ this is so confusing. Im between this 2 types. Im 4"11 , 35 y/o, my eyes are big and round, pointy nose, pointy chin, my body is kinda hourglass like ( 36 bust, 26 1/2 waist, 37 hips) , my arms are balanced in length, my hands look a bit bony ( kinda long fingers), my feet are bony anf flat. The upper part of my arms and thighs are somewhat fleshy. I tend to dress soft gamine but the test gave me TR. Idkk. Help!
I totally thought i was probably soft classic (after watching that vid) but then i did the test and got primarily d's (then next e's with one b and *maybe one c... having trouble determining my hand type) so I think that would make me theatrical romantic. I guess I feel i tend to avoid what i consider romantic styles because they are too fussy... sort of confused now!!! lol
Hi! Just discovered your channel, your work is amazing and very precise ! you're a great teacher :) can you do a flamboyant gamine VS dramatic classic? thanks !!
One thing I've noticed as a (most likely) soft gamine who originally thought I had to be a romantic because I have short bones and I have a softer chest and hip area is that soft gamines have mainly bone dominant frames with the exception of the chest and hips and theatrical romantics have flesh dominant frames with the exception of their shoulders. For me it's helpful to look at the rib cage and the actual waist area, is it a more rounded waist (tr) or does it seem to go sharply in, with the frame dominated by the ribcage (sg)? Also theatrical romantics are much more able to get away with more romantic lines (kinda obvious), whereas soft gamines look off in anything too unstructured
I’m having the hardest time deciding if I’m soft gamine/classic or theatrical romantic. Did a few different tests with different results. I think, having put on weight after having 3kids, where a lot of the weight is gained on the tummy area, with a bump-tummy (almost look like 3-4 months pregnant 😱) is making it more difficult. Any advice on what to maybe not look at when figuring out one’s body type???
Rihanna as an example for TR doesn’t seem correct though- she’s 5’8- Romantics are 5’5 tops. SD seems more fitting. I know she’s technically typed as TR by Kibbe- I just don’t understand why 😭😖
I was thinking the same thing!! But HB is so beautiful and so unusual+unique looking I guess it makes sense she’d be able to pull it off if anybody was going to.
@@DefineFive I wouldn't say Halle is "sharper", but more angular in a sort of broad way. I don't think she's "Broad", but this is the best word I could think of. Her bones look sturdier, in a way. Rihanna looks a bit more proportional, even though they both have answer A limbs. Rihanna's skin looks quite a bit softer than Halle's as well, whose skin appears firmer. For me, the differences were very glaring, though it's difficult to put them into words.
@@DefineFive Oh no, that isn't true! It's a skill that everyone can learn-it just takes a lot of analyzing. Merriam's videos are good teaching tools, I think.
@@unneighborlyarcades6356 OMG you are so right! I could see the differences but couldn't explain it well, which you did! I think many people always ignore these aspects that you have mentioned (sturdiness/broadness of bones, etc) which is why it seems harder to tell the difference. But they are indeed important aspects to be considered...
LOL I am definitely a theatrical romantic, but soft gamine looks look better on me. I'm very petite, and the SG styles overwhelm my body a lot less. Is it just me, or are the TR looks too theatrical sometimes (most of the time)
the question i have always when i try to understand what the heck type is i - If it's so hard to distinguish the types, then why do i even need to find my "type"?
Great video. I keep thinking I'm one of these two and it goes back and forth. I did do the selfie test and I look better in SG . I could never wear low cut anything my whole life... I'm a mix of. A. and E some D and a couple B and C. I keep getting confused . I look good in Soft gamine lines with a TR twist. Like not super tight at the neck but still high kinda like a t-shirt neckline and then fitted and it's perfect. The pants are kinda loose and fitted and high waisted. Idk I'm a girly tomboy.. I wish I could pay for your services but I'm waiting for taxes. I hope you respond.
These close-up comparisons, particularly of how you decide between the answers, are so helpful! The cheek-related and flesh-softness questions always confuse me.
The test confuses me SO much I am still trying to figure out what is going on with me.
@@ace-of-teacups how about flamboyant gamine?
every time i think i have it figured out i learn some more about each one. i cannot decide. i sometimes think i have a soft gamine face, or soft classic, soft natural, or theatrical romantic! or that my face and body do not match
Right! Every time I think I'm confident something else comes up that makes me question it.
it‘s so harf for me to figure out if i‘m soft gamine or theatrical romantic
These stereotypes can really make the journey of finding your Kibbe type difficult.
i am probably theatrical romantic, but i feel like soft gamine style fits me better than tr style
It's the same for me! My answers are closer to Rihanna's ones, but I look better with SG clothes
Same here. I think I am TR too.
Merriam, you are a true professional of style! You study and research the topic with extreme precision, and that's simply unique!!! BRAVO BRAVISSIMO 🤗
Theatrical Romantic I think looks better in dangly earrings, like chandelier earrings, also filigree type jewellery.
this makes sense, im soft gamine and I stay away from dangly. I like studs or a shorter dangly earring option if anything.
I absolutely love how well the photos you select demonstrate your explanations. Thank you so much, super good job.
I’ve been thinking I’m soft gamine but now I’m not sure if I might be theatrical romantic and I can’t decide 😓
Same ❤
I am definitely either a TR or SG. Now, I an leaning more towards SG because I think my shoulders are a bit more wide and angular for a TR. My face also has more yang features (thin lips, high cheekbones, kind of blunt jawline and eyes are small).
I dont know if im a neutral gamine, soft gamine, soft classic or theatrical romantic...
I know it's very hard ,at least for me to find your type but you can try many type of clothes/fashion to see which kind suit you the most, might take a long time , but i did find mine by this way
Juppp me to🤯

I've been watching many of your videos and want to say thanks for being one of the few people online who explain the Kibbe types so well! Especially after I just read a blog about why Rihanna can't be a TR with all the typical wrong assumptions used as arguments (like being tall = having a vertical line, and not having small hands = can't possibly be more on the yin side ...)
After doing the test 3 times (with info from two websites, your video and that of Aly Art) it's clear I'm somewhere between R and TR and now I understand why SG elements look great on me!
Pls more soft genuine type vids! Very informative! Thank you!
Halle Berry looked bitchin' in John Wick 3. The leather pants and cropped jacket worked with her soft gamine lines.
This is the one I've been waiting for, thanks so much Merriam! I'm a Theatrical Romantic but still a bit 'cute' and love to do a Soft Gamine or preppy look. I also think l have a bit of ingenue essence... is this a possible combination and even for a post 50yo woman??
Hello! I think a lot of people turn to Gamine styles... Especially TRs, Soft Naturals... Soft Dramatics maybe turn to Flamboyant Gamine styles...
I find it quite hard to tell romantics and theatrical romantics apart, and I can't decide which type I'm closer to. Could you maybe do a comparison video between the two, explaining the differences in a deeper analysis
yes, i really can't tell if im a romantic or a theatrical romantic lmao.
Yes is how you gain weight.
If you gain weight everywhere but mostly arms, stomach and hips then romantic.
If you gain weight only around the chest and hips no waist then TR
Just wanted to say that I discovered your videos randomly and I am listening to them as I would to ASMR. Your voice is amazing.
i would love to know more about flamboyant gamine! theres hardly any info out there on them. x
my face is theatrical romantic but my body is soft gamine, what should i do?
I know I’m late but her example for soft gamine had something similar going on so I think you are SG
could you please make a comparison video between soft classic and romantic? these videos are so helpful!
She has actually done a video comparing those, plus SN, it's in the 2nd part of the teddy bears video. Not with fully broken down answers to the test but it can be helpful to you for now.
@@ju2082thank you!!! I forgot about that video. Anyway it would be great to have the answers analysis
@@teresalamala For sure, even if Kibbe is about the clothing most and foremost I need me those Merriam's analyses haha.
She isn't a TR but apparently she updated to TR

It'd be wonderful if you did a video where you analize fans pictures !
What are your two possible types?!

I have been waiting for this one. Thank you Merriam.
You continue to amaze!
Helped me figure out, I am TR and not SG. Delicate hands, jewellery - earrings. Less angularity in bones. That's why some gamine clothes didn't work for me, though several shift dresses works for me but not very boyish clothes.
you should watch my video called Style Actualization- Rachel McAdams
Thank you for this! I thought I was a soft classic which feels a bit boring to me, but seeing this and Rhianna because I am 5’ 7” and she is my style icon I think I am a theatrical romantic.
Yay!!! Been looking forward to this one!
My oldest daughter is a soft gamine, my younger daughter is theatrical romantic.
I really get what you mean! I´m really underweight (working on it) and I almost feel like my kibbe type will change when I start gaining more weight
Jawline and cheekbones can be harder since they could appear to be more angular than they are.
What would you say Zendaya's kibble type is?
she must be a flamboyant gamine
@@diffsiuhgr4578 She's too tall though
@@rainydaze806 There is a style report about Zendaya on this channel. Look it up :)
I've learned so much from you! I already knew I was theatrical romantic, but I still enjoyed watching the video. I don't particulary like that I'm TR but I am and I will work with it :) you're so right about the strereotypes... they're so persistant and harmful. Btw. If you have time, can you tell me would you concider Brigitte Bardot signature hairstyle as a TR one or not?
i didn’t know gamines could be tall

ME TOO 🥹 I got small hands and feet and lush fleshy features, but I look tall?? So confusing 😭
Try on some of the line or outfit recommendations! I thought I was gamine, until I tried gamine lines and they are NOT for me. It can help a lot when our biases or answers make it hard to type ourselves. It's about which clothing lines and shapes look best on you.
Turns out I'm actually a Soft Gamine!@@VerySimplyAxolotl
Maybe your face has more Yang in it than compared to your body, so you could totally be a Romantic but with a Soft Gamine face!
Merriam, did you ever have a hard moment figuring out someone's type - between these two, for example?
I don't know your personal style but I love how Jena Coleman style. She's a contemporary soft gamine.
I love her style too, but I'm not a soft gamine. I think the romantic touch in that style doesn't really fit me. @@Em-fz5uh
Thank's, I didn't know that. Why did he eliminate those types?
@@silverroxen2954
I'm not sure whether I'm soft classic, theatrical Romantic or soft Gamine, so this was very helpful. Thank you 🙂
Okay, apparently I need to go for an X Ray to check whether my bones are SG or TR
Yes i m tr or soft gamine, or soft classic... All these outfits look good on me... I need to take the test again...
I was really confused about my type especially because I've always been skinny and didn't know how to differentiate between yin and Yang but, now it's more clear for me and I'm starting to notice the subtle differences .. so thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and observations ❤️
It's so, so helpful! Thank you so much for doing this video!!
I love these videos but i'm having trouble figuring out what type I'm. I think maybe a soft classic but i have no idea lol
I only have one TR'ish dress and I think I look good in it but I have never really tried anything else.
your channel is so helpful, thank u!!
Very interesting. Especially the Marion Cotillard presented with clothing for different body type. We really see the soft classic look is nice on her.
This is super helpful! I was unsure whether I was soft gamine or theatrical romantic, but with your tips I think I’m theatrical romantic! Thanks :)
1:11 That is insane , so that is why I scored Theatrical Romantic everytime in one test but in a second test its descriptions were confusing when comparing them to the pics and I got a gamine .....
I realise I might be soft classic. Thanks for this video, really helped me see!
Sounds like romantic, because of the wider frame
When you said soft gamines can tend to look more childlike when they dress glamorous that really resonated with me 😅 I love dressing glamorous and romantic but I can sometimes look like i’m playing dress up! thank you this video really helped me clarify what body type I fit more into
Still trying to figure out if I’m TR or SC 😩😭
Same 😭
Wow! I never would have guessed I was soft gamine. I always FEEL really huge, but it’s all in my head I think. When I was doing the test I really liked the gamine style but I was convinced I would get something like romantic because I just don’t feel dainty.
Is there a comparison between soft classic and theatrical romantic?
Could it be essences that can make you look better in or just good in both TR or SG lines ?
I am 18,and yes I look usually like SG but I am TR because,I look weird in SG style, but when I am wearing even the most gentel lipstick I look like I am 24 glamorous girl,I think when I will get older my more and more TR than SG
(I also look soo good in TG style)
in SG outfits that once I thought I was SG I looked really silly in them, also my face are too soft like my nose is really soft and when I tried more growed up outfits,I looked great,it dose made me look a bit older, lol now I found what type of outfits look really lovely on me
btw I am more cute than sexy but still TR
Ooh, I'm like you too! I think it's because 18 years old is still young so we will still look quite cute and sometimes like SG because we are not fully mature yet.
When I wear TR, I get a lot of compliments too...
Happy to hear some people are like that too..cute TR :D
@@Amanda-ke8gt yes girl, and my best friend is SG and people said we kinda look alike, but when I waer her style I just look weird,it just feel wrong (her style is soo SG and cute) people always said she is a fairy and I am a mermaid
@@somebody6777 omg you two must look so sweet and feminine together :O may ur friendship last forever hehehe
Yessss this just makes me feel so much better
awww!
I guess I feel i tend to avoid what i consider romantic styles because they are too fussy... sort of confused now!!! lol
This helps so much!! Thank you! I definitely wear the cute style better than sexy, but am TR. Thank you for addressing that!
Thanks because I was really in the fence of whether I'm TR or SG. Now I know I'm just overthinking it all and description don't matter.
When I wear bright lipstick I look childlike.
Any help of typing Erica Durance actress from smallville?
Rihanna as an example for TR doesn’t seem correct though- she’s 5’8- Romantics are 5’5 tops. SD seems more fitting. I know she’s technically typed as TR by Kibbe- I just don’t understand why 😭😖
I also thought she was too tall…
This is super helpful, because I being leaving with this doubt, however I'm still super confused.
aww thank you, you will figure it out, just keep trying!
I had a difficult time seeing much of a difference in Halle and Rhianna. It's so slight, really.
And I think Halle can pull off glamorous much more than some other Gamines. For me I think she is lush enough to pull off a lot of romantic looks.
I’m primary theatrical romantic, but I also have much of soft classic characteristics
Is it possible to be some kind inbetween ?
My test result is soft classic.but rachel mcadams and mila kunis is not curvy than me how is it possible?. İm confused really
Is it true that Petites can only be either a Romantic or a Gamine?
Thank You I finally understood what I am with this video !!
