Omg, just made some with hot wing sauce on a wheat bun, love it can't believe how much it is like meat, soaked in no chicken broth instead of water. Thanks Jill, this should make it easier for beginners
journeytowholefoods Ooo, nom nom nom, hot wing sauce, that sounds really good right now. A little vegan blue cheese dressing (wish I had a recipe), some cole slaw on the side. OOooWE!
Just tried this one... loved it! I did it the lazy way, though. I skipped the saute step and just threw everything into the Instant Pot. I cooked it on vented high pressure for 8 minutes. Turned out great! Thank you once again!
I use soy to make tacos all the time, though I used the plain crumbled TSP type to approximate ground beef. You could totally use those curls to make awesome fajitas, reconstitute them in coffee and chicken/vegetable broth for flavor. I'm not a vegetarian, I just like that I can make (and eat) way more tacos for less and they still taste great.
Hey.....It's Amazon days and I just bought an Instant Pot from your link in the description.....the very one I wanted and much cheaper today. I never wanted one until you showed how easy it would be to use. Thank you so much for all the great recipes.
Made the whole bag. Just as good as leftovers! Made some cauliflower rice in the iPot (whoo-whoo!), reheated the spicy soy curls, topped it with salsa . . . Yum!!
I buy soy curls straight from butler foods. I buy a large Box and divide them up into zip lock bags - squeezing out as much air as possible. They CAN eventually go stale at room temperature so I toss them in the freezer and they last virtually forever. Well, at least a year or probably two! They do take on any flavor you give them , so treat them like whatever kind of meat dish you want. I find soy sauce and oregano looks and tastes more like beef (powdered non sweetened baking chocolate kicks up the dark beefy look) If you want pork, just think Hawaiian salty with a touch of brown sugar and some pineapple 👍
O Jill! Soy curls! I must try these! If you say they are good I believe you! I was reading all your comments below ... When I read you are going to try King Ranch casserole... I squealed with delight! That used to be one of my all time favorite recipes too!!:) I have been eating lots of cauliflower Alfredo lately ... Remember how good that was?! Lol! Keep the great recipes coming Jill!!! You are AWESOME!!!!!!!
1st-so happy to see you in braces! Just got mine on a few months ago. Thanks! 2nd-so glad to have found your channel. You are inspirational and a credit to the whole foods plant based movement. Hope you are well. 🙂
Wow, SOOO good!!!! I was hungry so only did it for an hour, still fantastic! Added salsa instead of canned tomatoes and red pepper cause that's what I had....YUM! I will say, if you can find this squash, called Chayote, it is so good juilliened with a little lime juice over it and adds a cool, crisp element to this dish. Soy curls are so amazing and so is this recipe!
Love your channel! I own an IP as well (same model as yours) & am trying to go the vegetarian/vegan route. Hubby/daughter are a bit more resistant, but it's for health! You're fun, highly entertaining & real. Looking forward to trying your recipes out. Thank you for sharing! So thankful I have a Christian book/Nutritional store that carries soy curls!
Yep ..Yep.. better than Whale Blubber .... We Here in Alaska need more choices than Moose meat and Seal flipper.. and I got to tell ya.. I love these Soy Curls... Besides Had to give up all the BLubber and Fippers for health reasons.. So now Im a eating seeds, Bark, and Plant stuff. and loving it. Love your channel... now back to the igloo and my instant pot..
Thank you Jill! I love soy curls! I made fajitas with them and loved them. So excited to make more recipies with them. I'm a veg head since 2007 and moving now towards all plant based!!!
Thank you so much for the video . I just ordered the curls on line and I can't wait to try them. This is my first visit to your channel and I am now a subscriber. I really like your format. I know how to cook so listening to your instructions while viewing is perfect for me. I am not a fan of Seitan so I'm hoping that I like these better.
This sounds delish! I bought them prev on Amazon. Saw you shop at H‑E‑B and was wondering where in Texas you are and in this vid you say Austin! Howdy neighbor❤️
I am trying these yummy tacos! I am loving your channel since I subscribed. Your energy, your recipes, those bunny ears.. the best!! I will be getting an i-pot through your link and ordering my soy curls asap.
I gotta say.... I get excited like a kid at christmas when I sign in and see that you've posted a new video...Jeeze Louise that looks just like the 'pulled chicken' episode that was on TV yesterday... gonna have to try me some ;) When I first heard about soy curls, TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein) came to mind, and I can't eat that stuff...makes me gag lol.... but these look nothing like that.... OH!!...btw... thanks for the dance Jill *wink wink* I sometimes get bobbin' when I'm in the store to that tune... got it stuck in my head when I'm feelin' happy :) (kinda made it my permanent happy dance tune...but only in my head... hope ya don't mind) Love you too!! Keep comin' with those Jillicious recipes...
I hope to be able to try soy curls. I am trying to go plant based for health and not liking the food as much. I do enjoy your recipe ideas and you give me hope this is possible.
Hi Jill. These look amazing. I was thinking to also use these in place of chicken for " no chicken and dumplins". Since being vegan my hubby and I have been missing that dish. Thanks so much Linda Hardesty
craftoncue That's a great idea, Linda! I'm going to do that next time, too. We love chikn and dumplings around here. In all truth, we love dumplings and dumplings.
These soy curls remind me of TVP chunks, which I have never cooked, just eaten...I keep TVP crumbles around, all the time, for "emergency" dinners when company descends. I do a Boss TVP/lentil chili with lots of veggies..and there is always the Sloppy Joe option. Since I am a meat eater with a freezer full of meat, I can't say I'd use the soy curls on a regular basis, but I am game to try one bag....I am on the verge of buying an IPot, since my little stovetop PC doesn't do the job any more...and a new gasket would cost as much as the entire pot did, way back in the day......I will say this recipe looks tasty and I would use cooked shredded chicken, since there's always some in the freezer.....You do rock, Ms Jill...I learn a little more with every one of your videos...
Judith, I'm happy you're here and enjoying the videos :D My self-proclaimed carnivore uncle tried my barbecue soy curls and was impressed by their texture. I have a video capturing the moment...th-cam.com/video/HvBo0yCUV_c/w-d-xo.html
I buy the big bulk box myself and bag them up in smaller ziplocs. I store them in my chest freezer, not because they need freezing but because I live in a apartment and don't have much storage space for it. it likely keeps longer that way too. It takes us about a year to burn through my stash of soy curls. Sadly, they do not deliver to Canada :( But I am lucky to have a co-worker who visits his grandmother about once a month state side so he lets me send it to her address and then he brings it up for me.
LUCKY YOU! My decision to buy the 12-pound box will bring the price down to $2.69 per 8-oz with shipping included. Do you have a favorite way you like to eat them?
Simple Daily Recipes I've made them BBQ flavor and hot wing flavor, served on a bun. both ways are amazing! I will try them your way, I bet they're really good too. My meat eating grand son loves them too and said he could give up meat if he had these every day. If I didn't make them myself I wouldn't believe they weren't meat. And... they are healthy to eat! Ill have to look into ordering them online to get a cheaper price. I don't make them often because I try keeping my meals cheaper. Feeding 6 people can get costly. I need to cook a whole bag with this crew and I really think they would love it if I made 2 bags. Growing teenagers can really eat a lot, lol
b vegan I have learned soy curls aren't so grand by the third day of leftovers. So I'm trying not to burn my family out on them while at the same time explore new ways to cook them. I guess I need to invite our new friends over for dinner to help us eat my new recipe ideas. I just get so nervous serving people. I hate the idea of entertaining. It rattles me. Can you believe that? I have to have a super casual setting, paper plates & iced tea, like sitting around with family, to keep from getting wigged out. Martha Stewart I am not. I don't know why I got off on that topic. Even the idea of having new people over sets me off.
Simple Daily Recipes I don't like to have people over either, my grand kids are living with me right now due to bad happenings. We are helping them out because we love them :) but other wise we don't have people over for dinner, pretty much everyone I know eats "meat" animal products and won't even try a vegan dish. I wish more people would be open minded and give veganism a try. I love your recipes, they are really good and healthy. I share them with my friends and family on FB. Hoping maybe they will give um a try.
I'm glad this recipe came on the first so that I can order some of theses. I want some Texas BBQ and this will fit the bill. Thank you for sharing. :-)
I'm another soy curls fan. I think I heard about them from The Healthy Librarian. I just pan fry them (very very little oil or pam) and then stir in Honey barbeque sauce til glazed. Oh. My.
1linnell My husband bought a panini/grill appliance as one of my Christmas presents. I can't wait to grill soy curls on it. I've been looking at my old chicken marinade recipes to turn into new soy curl marinades. And I have an old beef fajita rub that I've been wanting to try but could only be done right if the curls on grilled.
I really try to do no-oil, and unfortunately, the first time I cooked soy curls I used some oil to pan fry. So I am enjoying the recipes in the instapot (which I also have.)
Awesome! Going to try this one next have made your BBQ soy curls and even grand kids love it.. Orders the 12 lb box ..we went through the 6 bags fast. Hey are you from Austin? Just heard you mention Austin. I'm in Seguin tx. We would almost be neighbors.
It would only take 2 minutes to get the onion and bell pepper tender. If you're planning to leave the soy curls warm with the keep warm function, I would pressure cook every thing for one minute then do the natural pressure release method. That way the bell pepper would not be too mushy.
I could not resist and went over to Butler Foods and ordered 6 bags. I also went ahead and bought a jar of the chicken flavor too. Have you tried that? Thanks so much Jill! Linda Hardesty
craftoncue I haven't tried the chicken flavor. Please let me know what it's like. I ordered the 12-pound bulk box of soy curls. It's due to arrive today. I'm excited. The next dish I'm planning to veganize will be King Ranch Chicken. Do you know that one? It was our favorite Sunday meal back in the day. I miss eating it.
I haven't heard of soy curls before so I will have to try these. However, because you mentioned you made a bbq version, you have to do a video...it's only fair! :)
Jill McKeever, Simple Daily Recipes yes! I did. I then realized you had more recent posts. I’m so sorry! I’m so excited to use the soy curls. I get them today 😝
Ive never used my Ipot for slow cooking. Jill, you've inspired me and I'm making this for the family right now but I have a question. Do I move the knob to vent or keep it in position I would for pressure cooking?
It makes no difference in slow cooking whether the steam release handle is set to "Sealing" or "Venting". That's not just my opinion or experience, the Instant Pot manual says the same thing. ;D
Hello, Jill! How are you? I came across your delicious recipe and it looks amazing, I'm definitely going to try it, and although it looks amazing, it wasn't quite like the one I was looking for :( the one that I'm desperately trying to find it's like the soy curls you showed in the pictures of the tacos, like more dry and darker color, not the final product right out of the instant pot. Did I explain myself? How do you make those look like that?? They didn't look like they have onion, Chiles and tomatoes, just the soy curls but more dark! I hope I'm explaining myself lol anyway, THANK YOU and I hope you can help me! Have a great day!!
Trust me. The soy curls in the picture are the same exact soy curls from the Instant Pot. They may look dryer because they had cooled during the photo shoot.
Jill McKeever, Simple Daily Recipes Oh, I see! They look really different, without all the cooked veggies, you can notice that or at least it's how I see it lol but thank you, might try to make it without the veggies and garlic and onion powder or something.
What a coincidence you post this video the same day I got my curls! I only bought them because you mentioned them before! I got them from VeganEssentials.com and they were $4.59 a bag. The vote here is to make them BBQ saucy and on a hamburger type bun. I bet they would be good in enchiladas. Loving the Instant Pot btw. Made your pintos and tonight it was the scramble. Tomorrow CURLS! Then a break to eat up some leftovers and finally onto lentils!
Liquid smoke is a must! Agreed. I have the hickory flavor so that will have to do. Heck yes to the slaw and potato salad. The husband likes to put the slaw on his BBQ sandwiches. I thought it was weird at first but it's pretty darn good that way. I literally haven't touched the stove since I got the Ipot. And you know what? I've never even used a pressure cooker before! SO easy. I think I've used a crock pot many years ago. The sauté function is super handy! Loving it!
beangirl28 There's a vegan food truck here in Austin called BBQ Revolution. They make THE BEST smoked barbecue soy curls sandwich and it comes with a scoop of potato salad and sliced onions between two slices of white bread. I wasn't too crazy about the white bread (too flimsy) but I still wolfed it down. I'm on a mission to make my barbecue curls tastes like theirs. From what I understand, they actually smoke their soy curls. I just don't know if that's before or during the barbecue sauce.
Simple Daily Recipes You are lucky to have those food trucks! I recently moved from Southern California to Alabama and there is NOTHING here! Not even a Trader Joe's! I have to drive 2 hours to Nashville to my stores that carry vegan type things and for my vegan restaurants. We do have an Earthfare and we are getting a Wholefoods next year! I think you should go down to those food trucks and get buddy buddy with them so they tell you their secret!
I'm trying to cut out meats because I just lost my taste for them. My husband is on board but he prefers the soy and other things I cook at least taste a bit like the meat it's supposed to represent. Would this taste like chicken if seasoned properly? Just curious! Thanks!
fyi most Asian marts sell vegan soy slices, vegan soy cubes and vegan duck slices. huge bags for under $4. It also taste amazing and I suspect it's the same thing but Americans just repackage and Jack up the prices
Mama V If this isn't the tastiest animal replacement protein on the market then you are doing something wrong. Seriously! I sent my chicken salad wrap back to the kitchen as it was that real. The chef came out with soy curls and assured me what I was eating was NOT chicken. I'm a vegan foodie. All I can say is try again as you are missing out.
fuck no. there is nothing on the market that exists like soy curls. i have tried it all. keep your mouth shut unless you know what you're talking about.
jarrad2000 OH NO, they're not THAT good. You're better off eating spicy bean tacos topped fresh chopped cilantro, tomato and onion. What's your favorite meal right now?
Good question... At the moment I would like to eat more potatoes but I could use some inspiration what to eat with them (some kind of sauce and vegetables that go well with them). I also like beans but I had too many recently so I need a pause :)
jarrad2000 Already in my short search for potato toppers, I'm running into old school oily, meaty ideas. So how about a vid series on "10 Tasty Potato Dinners" that would cover toppings AND entrees?
Have you tried jack fruit? It seems to be all over the vegan sites these days, but for some reason, it freaks me out. Can you compare the two? Soy curls seem more doable and something my omni son might eat if it's hidden by the BBQ sauce. : ). It also seems like a cheap way to make meat-like meals, without spending a fortune on commercial products. I subscribed. I think you're crazy - but aren't we all? : )
Hi calendarpage ! Thank you for subscribing to my channel and calling me crazy. I'm here to bring a smile to your day while you figure out what to feed your family. Thank you for the video suggestion to compare jack fruit & soy curls. Let me jump right to the answer so you don't have to wait. I've used jackfruit two times to make "pulled pork" sandwiches. Jackfruit is expensive, tasteless and takes too long in the oven. The end product leaves you having to stretch your imagination to believe it's a "pulled pork" sandwich. My husband described it as a food some gourmet chef thought to use to keep people believing there's no replacement for a good meaty sandwich. Now as for Soy Curls, BOY OH BOY, have we hit the motherload! Soy curls have such a mild flavor it's practically flavorless. The texture, however, is that of tender roast beef or chunks shredded chicken meat. Soy curls will take up any marinade you use and it doesn't take very long at all, 20- 30 minutes, just like marinating poultry. Because soy curls are already cooked, the cooking involved is to tenderize their texture. Soy curls are VERY chewy once rehydrated. It's important to simmer them for at least 30 minutes to a good tender bite. However, if you're craving a chewy smoked barbecue, then baking is the way to go. My husband LOVES chowing on soy curls and swears no meat-eater could ever complain about missing meat after eating soy curls. So get your hands on a bag of curls and try any one of my recipes: @watch?v=CJzegx5c5GE&list=UUzreeLY8gsp8NoqhG9OnqIQ @watch?v=PcsbayThBHg&list=UUzreeLY8gsp8NoqhG9OnqIQ @watch?v=bdwHXa-FQU8&list=UUzreeLY8gsp8NoqhG9OnqIQ Let me know what your family thinks. I have more soy curls ideas coming so stay tuned.
Simple Daily Recipes Thank you! Something about it just it me the wrong way. I've seen various videos that all cook it differently - some just put it in a pan, others rinse and bake it for a long time. Too much for me. I'm gonna try the soy curls. I won't tell my omni son what they are. He can eat Gardein burgers and I've found canned quail eggs and squid chips in his food cabinet, so he can eat this and be happy about it. : )
"Soy Curls" was my stripper name in the 70's. I wore a Geisha outfit... "LADIES AND GENTS... PUT YOUR HANDS TOGETHER FOR 'SOY CURLS'". Girl.... why don't you use oil to saute? You need fat in your diet!
HAR HAR HAR!!! I love you. I mean it! In a nutshell, I cook oil-free so my badonkadonk doesn’t return to the double-wide size it was before I started living a plant-based lifestyle. Also I don’t want to spend my silver-haired years taking crappy drugs, for cholesterol and blood pressure, with adverse reactions that leave me limping like an broken down pirate wearing adult diapers. Say ‘No’ to drugs, kids. I watched a TH-cam video of Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr. lecturing the importance of eliminating oils from our diet. No processed oil, not even ‘healthy’ oil, is beneficial to our vascular system. Dr. Esselstyn’s eye-opening lecture was enough for me to kick the oil can out of my kitchen for good. If you want to watch the same video, here’s the TH-cam link: th-cam.com/video/AYTf0z_zVs0/w-d-xo.html The best way to have those truly healthy fats needed by our cells is by getting them straight from their whole food source, vegetables, seeds and nuts (in that order). I don't eat nuts on a daily basis, more like every other week and they're usually blended into a cauliflower sauce or to add creaminess to a mayo. I never eat them by the handfuls.
I would really like to try the soy curls, but I live in Canada. I can find them in BC and I line in Ontario. The price of the curls Is ok, but the shipping is out of this world. $32. up to $50. Now that is outrages. Guess I will have to pass on this.
I just found out about these in the last couple months and am finally taking the plunge after the price of animal meat now only evokes boisterous laughter from me. I *wish* soy curls still cost $4.99/bag😅 but even at $8.49 for 1.5lbs hydrated in 2022, it’s a more economical choice than a pound of beef at the grocery store, and since you can season it to taste like chicken, there’s no need to buy the two different animal meats. Inflation is making veganism an economical choice, funny enough (if using something like soy curls, not the stuff in the stores)😆 Would be hilarious if the meat industry prices themselves out of the market 😏😂😆

Hi. what does coffee do for the flavor? I am curious. I am totally new to Soy curls and TVP.

Wonderful! Thank you for your support, Linda! It’s an honor to be part of your journey.
I use carne de soya is a Spanish version the bag is 2 bucks and makes a lot. The brand is called El Guapo.
You are a lovely presenter. I like the style of this video.
Made the whole bag. Just as good as leftovers! Made some cauliflower rice in the iPot (whoo-whoo!), reheated the spicy soy curls, topped it with salsa . . . Yum!!
Thanks for telling us how soft the soy curls become if you simmer them for awhile! I just made a Shepherds pie with them and it is AWESOME!!!!!!!

+Shannon Cunningham My Canadian fans have told me they are PRICEY. It is a total bummer.
Thank you for sharing theses wonderful delicious 😋🤤 looking soy curls recipes.
Soy curls need a rebranding. They are truly amazing (other than the name!)
😆 Come to think of it, "Soy Curls" does sound like a bag of chips. What would you call them?
Just found your channel and enjoyed it very much.

Cindy De
I found the soy curls at chucks produce in wa state. They're $3.99 here. We love them.
Hoping maybe they will give um a try.
b vegan The best thing we can do is be a light in the darkness, be an example of this good life. The rest is up to them. ;D
I'm glad this recipe came on the first so that I can order some of theses. I want some Texas BBQ and this will fit the bill. Thank you for sharing. :-)
OH YEAH! Do you make your own BBQ sauce?
Ong i so need to do this!
Making this again for Enchiladas tonight! nom nom
+Diane Graves Oh my word. I'M planning to make these tonight TOO! We are on the same wavelength.
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS.. ! =)
Awesome! Going to try this one next have made your BBQ soy curls and even grand kids love it.. Orders the 12 lb box ..we went through the 6 bags fast. Hey are you from Austin? Just heard you mention Austin. I'm in Seguin tx. We would almost be neighbors.
Vicki Spradling We moved to Austin a year and half ago. We love it here! I'm not familiar with Seguin. Do you have any good festivals there?
I can't wait to try these! I have never heard of soy curls before. Going to amazon right now to order! Thanks for sharing!!
Awesome! Let me know if soy curls are cheaper on Amazon. I've only looked on ButlerFoods.com.
Same picture on Amazon 12 lb bulk box is $83.95. Better from the Butler site. =)
Hello Jill, is there a cooking time recommendation for pressure cooking these? BTW, i love the spunky attitude :)
angela14962002 Did you find my barbecue soy curls recipe yet? Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/CJzegx5c5GE/w-d-xo.html
Simple Daily Recipes Oh cool, thank you! :)
Mmmmm, yum yum!
Looks delicious 😋 I
Just got some! Where have you been? Your videos are fun. 😊
Thank you 🙏🏻 for your kindness! Did you subscribe to the channel?
Simple Daily Recipes
You are lucky to have those food trucks!
Simple Daily Recipes A vegan food truck? I'm so jealous!
tonight is the night!! :)
Do you have an affiliate link for the Bluetooth smart instant pot?
I get mine on Amazon and since I have Amazon Prime, the shipping is FREE!!! ;-)
IDk...I have tried those and they just aren't as tasty somehow. Could be I need to work with them more . But the Butler's products are really good.
Makeupby LeeLeeSATX Not the same thing -- Butler soy curls are Non-GMO and amazing taste/texture!
Making this tonight! Btw: How do you warm your tortillas?
We like them tossed in the toaster oven for several minutes.
Wow, that was quick! Thank you :)
I just happen to be on ;D I'm gearing up to announce the winner of the Instant Pot & cookbook giveaway game we played this week.
I need to get another freezer now to handle the bulk box.
Awww, I've hooked another Soy Curl Sibling! :D
Got my Soy Curls...now I'm addicted. .😃
me too
Since you were going for a "beefy" taste, why didn't you use Beef paste? This recipe sounds amazing!!!
+Robin S at the time I shot this video I probably did not have any on hand.
So, I ordered soy curls from Amazon, but are they spongy when you eat them?
Thank you Jill. Just tried soy curls for the first time. I could kiss your face off right now!!!
I would let you kiss me!!!
This looks amazing! I don't know where you live, but I wish we were neighbors! :)
AJ Bodine I live in Austin, TX.
I'll be in Austin, TX in 2 weeks :) Any recommendations for great places to eat?
Here in Germany they cost 28+ Euro (so about 31 dollars) for an 8 ounce bag... So that's a little extremely expensive :(
jarrad2000 OH NO, they're not THAT good.
I also like beans but I had too many recently so I need a pause :)
jarrad2000 Let me see what I can round up from my cookbooks. OH OH OH, I could turn it into a "10 Tasty Potato Toppers" vid series...Aw yeah
I'd watch that series for sure :)
jarrad2000 Already in my short search for potato toppers, I'm running into old school oily, meaty ideas.
So get your hands on a bag of curls and try any one of my recipes:

Let me know what your family thinks.
calendarpage There you go!
If you want to watch the same video, here’s the TH-cam link: th-cam.com/video/AYTf0z_zVs0/w-d-xo.html
The best way to have those truly healthy fats needed by our cells is by getting them straight from their whole food source, vegetables, seeds and nuts (in that order). I don't eat nuts on a daily basis, more like every other week and they're usually blended into a cauliflower sauce or to add creaminess to a mayo. I never eat them by the handfuls.
Me WANT EAT
I would really like to try the soy curls, but I live in Canada. I can find them in BC and I line in Ontario. The price of the curls Is ok, but the shipping is out of this world. $32. up to $50. Now that is outrages. Guess I will have to pass on this.
+Cheryll Labovitz I have several friends in Canada that have said the same thing. I wouldn't pay that outrageous shipping fee either.
I'm with you!
