Thanks for sharing the info brother. I did a power steering flush last night thinking this was the problem and only helped a little. I was going to install a new pump and if that did not work change the rack. Fortunately I found your video last night when I was searching for how to change the pump out. I used my pressure washer this morning to clean up all the debris at the u-joints and slides and now it works perfect. Took me longer to get everything out then to actually perform the work. I did find the part online for about 1/4 of the price all the chain autoparts stores wanted and plan to replace as soon as it comes in later this week.
Once again, thanks for taking the time to share.

You saved me some time thinking it was the power steering pump but hot damn now I’ve got to spend 4 times the amount to fix this damn thing 😂 great video though, very informative and detailed with the issue at hand

My problem is exactly as you described. You likely saved me the money from buying a power steering pump, Willy-nilly. I am going to change the steering shaft first and hopefully that will be it. Thanks.

Just stumbled on your vid. Was thinking it’s my PS pump but I know when I’m in the engine bay I’ve seen the condition of my intermediate steering link. I’m going to try this first. Thanks!

I should have watched your channel sooner I ordered a power steering pump thinking that's what the problem was but you were right it's the lower intermediate steering shaft I literally just now sprayed the crap out of it with PB Blaster and it's working now so I have one of those in order

every winter for about the last 10 years i have lubed the two u joints on my 2004 f150. I take a long craft paint brush and apply axle grease to these joint. I never had to replace. a few bumps of oil or spray grease works as well when it gets tight.

Saved me a pile of money and time. Ya it was the slip yoke I drilled two holes in the female shaft and soaked it with oil it loosened up perfectly. Did not even have to remove it. Thanks.

I agree 100% the random stuck spot has almost caused me to wreck. I am in my 50's been driving since I was 15. I have never had a failed pump completeley lock up the steering like this steering failure. My truck is low sodium southern truck, never seen road salt in it's life.

I have a 2004 old body style having the same symptoms but the shaft looks different than the ones in the videos I’ve watch one joint is in the cab and the one close to pump versus the two joints being under hood my question is does the shaft I have also go bad?

Hello and thank you for the information! I have a an 2008 Ford f150 4x4 5.4l and currently bought a power steering pump for it. I have not been able to change it because its location is crazy difficult. The darn fan shroud is in the way and god that thing makes me angry but anyway, question for you before I bother to continue trying to get power steering pump out. When I drive it seems at times makeing turns its like the steering sticks and I have to force it to turn and then its fine. Its like the power steering stops working at certain angles the steering wheel is turned. I thought maybe rack and pinion or tie rod ect but figured power steering pump first. Is that kinda what happened when you turned your steering on your truck? Hope fully you still get notifications for this video because I am really curious if that is the problem I am having. cant wait to hear from you!

Hi there. That sounds exactly what happened to mine. I would certainly replace that shaft first. It's much easier that the pump lol. You can look down in there with a flashlight and see if it's rusted and pitted like mine was.

    • @mejestic2007

@@StBernardAcres Yep looked down there with flash light and certainly looks rusted, currently trying to find one cheaper then 280 bucks at autozone, god thats crazy expensive! Thank you for the reply!

I got mine at Rock Auto for around 60. Auto Zone here wanted 170 for it. Any other years is around 40 lol.

Could it be this problem if my 04 f150 struggles to turn even turning when standing still but when I go about 1,500 rpm it turns just fine but when low rpm it’s just struggles to turn

I have a 2006 F-150, from the Bad spark plugs to now this and Ford Not owning up to there mistakes and making us pay for it, I'm done with Ford, I will buy from someone else here on out. Bye Bye Ford you lost a value customer, I m sure you don't care but if many people would do this than maybe Ford would sadly fix there mishaps they made.

Definitely not normal wear and tear
For folks that have these trucks, and haven't had that part go bad on them yet, it might be a good idea to crawl under there occasionally and just throw some axle grease on the part of the shaft that slides
