Excellent video. I too changed the actuator on my '05 Golf with the BW KP39 turbo. I had Malone do a VNT delete. The how-to I followed a few years ago suggested using the shaft from the original turbo to lengthen the shaft on the new turbo which I did. Removing the bracket was very time consuming on my part as well as removing the actuator from the turbo in-car. The replacement actuator is a smart actuator from a Garrett VNT 17 IIRC, from idparts and a Malone VNT delete.
This makes me so happy that I have an ALH...I mean really VW!? why?...the TDI just got way more complicated after the ALH for what? 10% improved economy? Very cool repair! I'll keep this in mind for friends that have a BEW.
BEW IS NIGHTMARE headside fuel pump broke in parts smart actuator failing kp39 turbo broke turbine shaft in half camshaft use prematurly know head gasket problems Pumpe deuse injector-pumps are a nithmare to access or change but not even see one broke i dont even want to discover other ones troubles , not mine love my alh too but they are sensible to timing faillure if negliged lol , just broke timing belt at 4krpm no chance for the head , changing motor now

You can buy these actuators new on ebay, aliexpress.around $70. I bought 1 2 years ago and just now the sensor on it is throwing a light but i still have full power. On looking for a new 1 i see volkswagen now finally supply this part but its around $250.
i have a clone obd2 cable that work well to read /write vw ecu then with edcsuite for my edc15vm ( very user friendly ) ive succefully remaped my alh myself , just now with EDC16u31 , on my BEW( also compatible and succefully read) im totally lost with winols ( really im lost) to disable the smart function and tell ecu tu use MAP sensor insead i would be really appreciated if you can point me out any info on this thanks ! paid 400$ for a brand new smart actuator directly at vw dealership, then Broke vacuum pin by innatention , because it was stuck on the chain of the chain block , ( not stupieds thing ive done yet_) used extention rod like one you built that come with it . and fitted it on an alh actuator , work like a charm but really need to disable this useless smart function , i really need help on this one
You cant use a BRM actuator on a BEW. One pulls the other pushes. But, years ago no actuator was available for a BEW. I hadn't checked before I made this video. People already pointed out BEW actuators are now available and I put that in the description.
Garret actuator on a vnt17 is sold separately and can be modified fairly easily to fit a kp39. That's the best option imo. Just a matter of removing it from the bracket attaching the garret smart actuator to the bracket and lengthening the actuator rod using those long thread connector nuts. Pretty much same procedure as what you did
did you even watch the video? the diaphragm in the turbo actuator was ruptured and not sealing vacuum see 5:45 and 6:33. If I preload the actuator but it doesn't seal vacuum how good is it gonna work?
@@CoolAirVw wait..im talking about 21:15 when you said you'll start at 3.5" of preload based on the arm of the other WGA ...thats why im saying like cant you look up what the OEM preload should be in PSI and do that straight away instead of trial and error? as in im honestly just asking its not an attack...

Thanks for the walk through on this. I will be buying the one you linked to and putting it in my stock in case they stop making them as well. Cheers.

Other comments are saying smart actuator is available.
BEW IS NIGHTMARE
headside fuel pump broke in parts
smart actuator failing
kp39 turbo broke turbine shaft in half
camshaft use prematurly
know head gasket problems
Pumpe deuse injector-pumps are a nithmare to access or change but not even see one broke
i dont even want to discover other ones troubles , not mine

Awesome... awesome... awesome!!!
Looks like actuator is available. See other comments. Still though we got it done for customer without waiting for shipping.
You said "Butchery" Love it!

had a mechanic tell me once he would not cobble anything together...lol so i had to do it myself..
Luckily I'm here to cobble it for my customers.
Good job
Thanks
Thanks for the great vid! What software did you use to reflash the ecu? Did you just edit the existing ecu file to not trip the under-boost code?

Really ,can i put actuator without electricals conectors??can it run?
Yes, but software change is is necessary. read description. Actuator is available.
Thank you;)
The actuators are available now, aftermarket.
yes, read the description and the pinned comments.

Where you buy your vacum pump ?
Mityvac hand held vacuum pumps can be purchased everywhere. here is one. amzn.to/46fKDsB
your 'software change'.. What did that entail? I assume that wasn't a coding in vcds.
retune. Malone tuning.
Where did you get your vacuum pump?
you can get this style of hand vacuum pump everywhere. Oreilly auto parts carries them. Harbor freight has a crappy one. Amazon, ebay ect.
Every time I ear the word smart, the only thing that comes mind is BIG MONEY. Not sure what so smart about it!
It smarts (hurts).
To drill stainless go slow. Fast hardens it.

the stock preload isnt noted anywhere?? if it is all you had to do was preload the actuator to correct psi :X
