That was a pretty hard landing...he should have flared more.
Simple and common newbie mistake: diving for the runway when too high on final approach to landing.

Well at least the walk of shame was a short one, Condolences to the builder and Rest In Pieces to the aeroplane.
Generally speaking, one can't fly those scale aircraft like a pattern ship. I found two other beautiful Beachcraft models that crashed in a similar fashion when the pilot tried to fly them like his pattern ship.
Excellent camera work. I like the way the videographer kept the plane large and centered at all times. Sorry to see it crash, though. I used to haul jumpers in the D-18. Did aileron rolls but never tried to loop it. I think a real one could probably do a loop but the altitude and airspeed weren't there for this model. Sad. It was a beautiful model.

great shame. That unfortunate pilot will probably be kicking himself for a while after watching this footage. In my opinion, the worst type of crashes are pilot error in a beautiful plane and filmed by your friends!

That blurred-out guy was the pilot, and yes almost got hit with the debris of his own plane.
Since my previous comment, it appears this was an early flight on a relatively fresh model. The top of the loop was low,but but the elevator movement was very small, so the pitch rate wasn't that high. The loop radius was unexpectedly wide. Looking at the down line there was very little elevator angle.
And 100% pilot error
ALways have to be at least 3 mistakes high, especially on a new plane.
If he had come off the power on the down line and had kept the wings level, he might have got away with it.

The plane stalled. High rates would not have helped.
I flew a Beech 18 professionally for a couple of years back in the 1980s. It was actually pretty good at doing aileron rolls.

Attemted the manouver too low but thankfully he banked at the last moment to avoid tbe fool standing under the flying area who would have been badly hurt.
Pilot error as in most cases of a crash.
Most of these crashes seem to start with too steep banking and therefore loss of lift whilst too low to recover.

A large scale plane like that should be flown well away from the pilot, pits, and spectator areas, as recommended by AMA. Very unsafe.
That happened in Europe, they couldn't care less for what the AMA recommends.

There needs to be rc emergency vehicles that rush to the scene. Stretchers and ambulances along with a life flight helicopter and then later a backhoe and a hearse and stuff.

He got bored with flying his plane in ovals so he tried to do something a little more exciting. It was exciting alright. If you want to get into RC and you think you might get bored flying a plane in endless boring ovals then consider buying a plane you can do tricks with. It may cost more but you’ll be happier in the end.
On the loop he never let go off the throttle when he started to come down

Attempted a loop too low to recover, may not have had enough elevator throw. 1/4 scale models need more room to do acrobatic maneuvers. Rekitted. Oops.
Hopefully he was so embarrassed that he picked up a different hobby... because he's not a very good rc pilot! That was idiotic.

Too low for such a stupid maneuver and too nice of a plane to do it in! I'm in the process of scratch building a Beech -18 right now but mine with have a nose gear like the one I flew cargo for Chrysler in

A lot of armchair quarterbacks here... wonder how many go out to the field and talk about flying and rarely fly like at out club. Crashing is part of the hobby when you actually fly. Should he have been higher when he started the loop, probably. Should he have pulled the power back at the apex, probably. Made these mistakes myself... he just made them together. Sh** happens, it was a very cool plane. An plane, life goes on.😄😄😄😄

This is what happens when you don't plan your manouvers. This pilot was making up the display as he went along and actually didn't have the energy required before entering the loop. Extra height of course being energy also.

The blurred figure on the flight line was very lucky. What in hell were they even doing there?? An air strip closer right there if seen by authoritys. As to the stunt work on scale plane... money cant buy brains.. every club has its entertaining members that destroy wonderfull things then show up a week later with something else to destroy
Why do people who obviously can't fly always wreck such beautiful models? I hate that I regularly see people with extremely large amounts of money, but who have absolutely no idea about flying. Go play chess or marbles, but keep your hands off the stuff! It sucks!

The person at the field was taking imagery and not the RC Pilot, assuming that you are referring to that person in the video.

Jesus Cardin I know it’s stupid isn’t it. People have to remember that they can seriously hurt or even take a life, especially at that size. As I’ve flown I’ve seen some stupid photographers not using common sense.
Flying is what happens when you throw yourself at the ground, and miss...unfortunately he didn't miss.
