14:57 "Weird World Records" might refer to the times when you checked the world records for a track through Nintendo Wifi and the record holder's time would be 00:00.002 because they tampered with the internal code of the game so that they could finish the race after crossing the start/finish line on the start-up boost. There was some examples of 00:02.xxx since the person disabled key checkpoints except for the starting line. That way they can cross the finish line, start the next lap, reverse, cross the finish line, start the next lap, etc. Malleo's clip that you used in "Lap count beyond 3" is how hackers completed the course so quickly. 27:54 "Mario Kart Wii Physics for the win" I believe it was first used in the RTCT #1 video Troy made in 2011.
I said this before, but thanks for making this series on my dumb iceberg. I may update it later down the road, but I’m probably not going to do it by myself if I want to go even more obscure. Also with the nature of the MKWii community discovering things as fast as they do (in fact as this series was going there was a discovery with outside drifting bikes that revolutionized the TAS scene), I’ll just update it as these things are discovered, and see where we go from there :).

34:25 Hi again, around the same time as my discovery in desert hills, I actually found this gap in the invisible wall too. I immediately figured it had some ultra shortcut potential, but I honestly assumed it was something that had already likely been tested and I shrugged it off. However, the success of my desert hills theory gave me the opportunity and confidence to share it with some TASers, and they were able to go absolutely insane and make the 16th ultra shortcut happen! It remains flap only to this day due to the very long setup of riding the seam back to the start line, but the flap record itself has seen some significant optimization since that initial discovery. Unfortunately, I never made any other significant discoveries after this, other than documenting some weird checkpoint behavior. I was never interested in learning how to TAS and the more advanced mechanics of the game, so instead, I started making custom tracks a few months later. I didn't expect this video to give me so many memories, but here we are.
32:40 As the person who pieced together this shortcut in January 2020, I can try to explain how it works in more detail. By diving off of the wall to the right after the start, you can get respawned behind the region of currently loaded checkpoints, allowing you to drive backwards and enter back into the region from the opposite side. Normally, this would be much slower, in fact, a similar thing can be done in Yoshi Falls without any benefit. However, in desert hills, the distance between kcp 1 and 2 is so great, covering nearly half of the track, that driving backwards can actually be faster, especially when combined with the backwards shortcut you showed in the video. However, it causes a lap position glitch which is why it was banned iirc. Finally, it is possible to do that backwards shortcut shroomless with a well-timed hop, so I'm not really sure where that leaves it in terms of time trial viability. And no, it isn't an ultra shortcut because you are not going back to hit the last key checkpoint, you are going back to hit an abnormally far second key checkpoint, nor are you getting OOB from the first key checkpoint region (kcp 0) but rather the second (kcp 1). I learned this the hard way...

I'd argue that Hammer Bro's potential inclusion in the game was probably more likely than Petey and Paratroopa. The icons for the game were carried over from Double Dash, meaning that Petey and Para may or may not have been considered for the game, but their icons' appearances could very well be a byproduct of asset reuse. Hammer Bro's icon meanwhile was a Wii original, meaning that he was likely actively in development at some point in development, even if he was cut early. This may be controversial to say but I don’t think it was right to skim over/disregard the grooming section for both the safety of vulnerable minors, as well as for the historical significance of some of these individuals. I understand your reasoning to not want to give attention to these figures but it is important for those to be weary around popular players who could be abusing their reach. I definitely think smaller cases need no discussion here, but some of those accused are still active on some accounts. In regard to the narrative of this video, I think it was vital to mention one by name-that being Sword0fSeals. He was a highly influential figure in the early 2010s; He made multiple videos being one of the first “content creators” alongside Troy, appeared in many of Troy’s videos along with becoming acquainted with him IRL, helped with CTGP (the Spear bike was even renamed the “Sword” in CTGP at one point), held various world records including one for the Sherbet Land Ultra Shortcut, and popularized the mystery of the 3 item boxes under DK Summit. Sword was my favorite Mario Kart player as a kid; I thought his videos were hilarious and he was an incredible player. I used to rewatch his “MK64 tracks in MKWii” video once a year until one day, when trying to find it, I discovered all his videos were gone. That’s when I learned about his online relationship with a minor. I no longer endorse him/support him, as that deprived revelation broke my heart. However, due to what he had accomplished beforehand, he’s a vital part to the game’s history. The actions of groomers are deplorable, but from a historical overview, it’s still important to recount what they had done before (or unfortunately for some cases, during) their own undoings. And of course as I initially mentioned, it’s integral to warn those who could be at risk as while I believe Sword is fully retired, I’ve seen others who’ve unfortunately been successful at closeting their past. Thank you for reading.
Wtf, never heard this about sword until now. Granted I'm not very well versed in the MKW community nowadays. I thought that entry was referring to the "When I get hit by a item, the video ends" guy
A little tip for making iceberg videos: don't always take the fun away by saying something like "this is obviously not true". The whole point of icebergs like this after all is to take things to the extreme and dark. 14:34 for me the tracks have different names, for example DK Summit is called DK’s Snowboarding Surf
That’s the American vs European versions of the game
Is there a way to fix the audio? Great video, but the spots where the audio is only in 1 ear get on my nerves
I'm not really at all convinced that "ma-ma-Mario Kart" is that rare. I'm pretty sure its just as common as the other intros
28:47 no screw lakitu
I got one time the ma-ma-Mario Kart and it was unexpect.😂
I'm just older than mario kart wii yesss
Random tangent, during the funky flame runner segment, bro had trick animations I'd never seen before. Am I being Mandela'd or was that a mod???
These videos are way more enjoyable when you talk about even the most rediculous things in an objective way so the viewer has some space for imagination. Otherwise great video
deez
you probably get this alot but you deserve more subscribers
What happened at about 25:50? Audio just shuts off
