i have had my first pair of a40s for 10 years, or so, then i bought a replacement headset (old one wasnt even broken) while still using my old mixamp. about $400 for about 12 years of gaming, often 6+ hours per day? thats just insane man. buy a40s if u want a headset that will last u for a decade at least

Hell yeah. I'm here now, since my a40's mixamp cable is wearing out. I'm gonna buy a new set.
Two things. One is why does the app look so different than what I have? Mine looks like an unofficial version compared to what everyone else is showing in their videos. Second, why the mic being so close, would a windscreen be helpful? I have an extra laying around that I got for another headset.

As an owner of these and the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro, the Astros don’t come close. Spend extra and get the Nova Pro’s. Audio and comfort are on a different level.
Always been a fan of SteelSeries and just got the Nova Pros too! Worked my way up the ladder just keep getting better and better!

This seems amazing. The only thing that doesn’t do it for me is I’ve had the A50s from when they dropped for Xbox One. And I still use them on my pc and my series X. I love Being able to set them on the dock/Charger. I love when I’m done just setting them down and they turn on the charging

Okay, you said it is not really noise cancelling, which is quite disappointing but what about the speakers? Is it 5.1 or 7.1? This is also really important if you're a gamer.

Best wired: EPOS h6 Pro closeback, VZR model one, & Sennheiser PC38X.
Best wireless: arctis nova pro wireless.

This is definitely Astro’s best thing in a long time, but they are far from the best compared to others.

Great review! You covered pretty much everything about the headset (except for the integrated mic when the boom mic is unplugged, and that you can get multiple wireless dongles to use on multiple devices). Your analogy of it being the Swiss army of headsets, I agree. Not many headsets have bluetooth, aux, and wireless. The boom mic is definitely subpar, and I feel like Astro should've included a pop filter. The multifunction button is something i wish other headsets had.
For $230, I think it is a fair price especially for all the features. There are many cheaper options to choose from, but they won't have all of the features of the A30s.
I personally use the HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless because it has a 300 hour battery life, but it lacks aux and bluetooth and the multifunction button.
I know this is an old video but I just wanted to leave a comment here warning people that I've had nothing but issues with my a20s throughout the years, I would not recommend this headset brand to anyone
A20s were their worst product. These are much better.

Good headset although there is a relatively common issue regarding the power button. It can be stubborn and takes multiple tries to turn off or on.
I bought some A10s last year before ultimately deciding to upgrade to the HyperX Cloud II headphones I use now. Totally apples to oranges comparison given the difference in price, but I definitely prefer the Cloud II headphones to the Astros. Maybe the more expensive Astros are better quality, but I'm not willing to pay that much to find out when I'm happy with what I've got. Anyone tried high end Astro & HyperX headphones? Curious what others think.
I’ve used the HyperX for about 2 years and liked them alot, super comfy and durable. The sound is great for gaming.The reason I bought my new Drop PC38X is for music listening, that’s where the HyperX falls a bit short for me.
I've used the HyperX clouds IIs and A50's.
In terms of value the Hyper X has Astro beat by a longshot. Comparable sound and a much better microphone. The astro center options are cool but your average user isn't going to get much out of it.
Additionally I wasnt impressed with the build quality of the current Gen Astros. The headband design breaks so easily which requires you to have to zip tie the headband in. Not a massive deal but for a $300 headset it's inexcusable imo
I have a set of Astro A40s with the Astro Mix Amp for my Xbox, and it's the older generation of Astro... They were great at first but I switched to a Steel Series Arctis 9X, that was a little bit better, although lacking in features by comparison. I just recently picked up a set of Drop PC38X, those are the best by far and I haven't even pulled my Mix Amp out yet to see how well it works with the Drop headset. Mind you, the Astro and the Drop are wired, not wireless, so that might be a deal breaker for some.
If you are looking at wireless, I'd go astro. Wired the best one imo is the Alpha(non S).

Best gaming headsets....maybe on console where you don't have choices. On pc beyerdynamic and sennheiser headsets powered by an amp are FAR superior. Astros sound like junk

This headset sounds okay, but I wouldn't buy it until the fix the random 100% volume glitch. Also the rubber on the headband pulls your hair and the earcups make your ears sweat. Back to the lab Astro
I prefer the feature on the Astros A50, where when you tilt your head down to remove the headset, it turns off within 5-10 seconds. However, the new Astro A30 is also impressive.
I had several pairs of A50s and hands down the best headset I've ever used. Got another pair a few days ago and they simply will not work anymore..... Astro Command Centre is obsolete I think

Get the Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless, it's the best headset I've ever used and worth every penny.
One way to get rid of the Darth Vader sound from the Mic is don't put it so close to your mouth

The good thing is, it does a lot which makes life easier.
The bad thing is: It's not hard to find wired headsets that sound better at 20% of the price.
Will keep them, but at the same time: Will use something else for when sound quality is more important than multiple inputs and chat/game mix.
Drift0r I know you didn’t talk about it in the video, but how is the mic quality of the mic on the ear cups? Apparently there’s another set of mics on the ear cups not including the boom mic.

They are better than A40s and A50s for causal listening due to being wireless and taking lots of inputs. However, I still prefer A50s for regular gaming.
I’ve had these since release and they’ve only given me problems, like audio cutting out even when wired and bass on right ear cup not very loud sometimes

Don't buy headphones from a company that won't even ADMIT there's a wide spread problem with the Atmos on the mix amp (v3 I believe but it's been a while. The one that comes with the A40 and a few others). Sounds blown out, like a tin can, and reverbs, all at once. It's been something like 4-6 years if not longer people have been waiting for some sort of fix DESPITE the fact that downgrading to older software fixes the problem.
Every few months a seemingly newly hired community lead or PR member will reply to a post about the problem as if it's the FIRST time anyone's ever brought it up, not understanding it's a much larger issue then they think they're getting in to. Giving simple advice like updating software and things that are already all over the internet as advice previously given. Non of which works. The community will understandably dog pile this innocent representative with links to the dozens of old threads about this problem that just eventually go dead with no fix, and the current well intentioned PR rep either realizes it's not a problem he can fix or gives up under the weight of the backlash. Allowing that thred to die as well
It's a cycle that's been going on for 3 years JUST for me and much longer for others. Don't enter this ecosystem

Wait, to mute the headset i have to hit the button on the usb dongle?! If so this is a terrible design. Also 2.4ghz bluetooth is a problem if your router is on the same frequency. Not as good as they should be for the price.

@@ACE112ACE112 A30's have a sound frequency range of 20hz to 20k hz for 229 bucks. corsair virtuoso is 20hz to 40k hz double the sound range for 190 bucks. the value for performance doesnt add up when you look at a30's
@@inabearsuit2425 How wide of a frequency range a headphone has doesn't really matter for sound quality. The frequency response graph, imaging and soundtage are more important.

I made the switch to studio headphones with a dedicated amp and i couldn't be happier the sound blows away any "GAMING" headsets

Steelseries Arctis Nova pro (wireless) is significantly better. Especially with the sonar software. It’s not even close.

It’s also 1/3 more expensive. Not everyone has 350 to drop on headphones, 230 is already pushing it.

just bought these yesterday, its a step back in sound compared to my Penrose. But the weight of these are a lot lighter. Not a fan of the ear pieces, zero to any breathability. These with the a50 fabric ear cups would be perfect
I really do miss the A40 fabric cups. They are interchangeable so hopefully fabric cups are coming soon.

@AcidNeon lol i still have my Penrose in my gaming closet, but I did return the a30s and bought the a50s instead. Huge diffrence in sound and comfort. A30s felt like they were made for a kid with the small ear cushions and the sound is no where near what the a50s have
I need my gaming headset to double as music listening headset on my laptop/phone. Got HyperX Cloud II and will probably just buy it again after this set croaks, heh...
