  • This video is a detailed walkthrough of the American Autowire headlight enhancement relay kit. Our kit includes separate relays for the high and low beams as well as upgraded GXL wire to make fresh connections to your lights. It's available in both standard (pn/ 500403) and weatherproof (p/n 500431) form.

    Thanks for the information. I used this setup but without the dimmer switch. I used a DPDT toggle for my aftermarket fog/driving combo lights.

    If I've already used the AAW Classic Update Series Kit for my Nova do I need this to power my new Led headlights? They seem to work fine now, just don't want issues on long overnight road trips.

    I am trying to wire a gmc 2017 Yukon Denali fog lights? I purchased a LED fog light kit. It explains the wiring ok. Although I would like to wire this kit bypassing the switch that comes with the kit and use the switch that is already inside the cabin of the Yukon. Are you able to explain how to tackle this approach?
    Thank you, Patrick

    Terminal “85” is typically used to wire to ground (not 86 as mentioned in the video) and terminal “86” would be used for your existing Low Beam (or High Beam) trigger wire. Terminal “30” should be used for Battery Power and should have an in-line fuse or circuit breaker. Terminal “87” should go to the Low Beam (or High Beam) light

    • @wengsiongsai2815
      @wengsiongsai2815 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Pins 85 and 86 are on the trigger/activate circuit, which is usually activated by a live on one pin and a switched earth/gnd on the other OR a gnd on one and a switched live on the other. It doesn't matter which way round.

      In the video the relays are laying sideways.... The layout is correct ..... Turn it 90° counterclockwise then u will see its correct.... All these type of 5 pin relays are the same..... Only problem with this video is that there is no fuse between battery and pin 30 to protect the circuit from overheating or blowing a bulb

I have tried to get it to work, but I am lost and need help.

    ok so I just watch your video . where is the power coming from? still from the factory switch or a separate power source? if a separate power source what do you hook up to? I want to get a kit to do this to my 65 dodge dart and my 82 dodge d150 and my dad's old 78 chevy truck .

    • @mr.b3168
      @mr.b3168 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The lights get the power from the battery on a shorter more direct wire which allows for less voltage drop meaning brighter lights. The old power source (Light switch inside car) is now used to activate the relay to allow the power from the battery to travel to lights.

    • @BikerStuff
      @BikerStuff 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@swapnalipatil9310 you need a separate relay for each circuit (beam). You can get switching relays but the extra wiring needed makes it a harder job. Come on, relays aren't expensive, buy 2.

    • @charliedee9276
      @charliedee9276 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can but you still have to have another to energize the second one. A 4 pin to energize the 5 pin with both h and l beam coming off the 5 pin, 87a low beam and 87 high beam. Feed 12v supply to 4 pin 30 with 87 feeding 30 on the 5 pin. Low beam switch energizes 86 on the 4 pin and high beam energizes 86 on the 5 pin. Tie the grounds and call it good.

    Use a 4 pin relay for the one getting power from the vehicle, then you won't have an unused terminal on the other.

      You can find relays with a resistor or diode already built in and save the trouble. Factory headlight relay in a 70 Chevelle uses a resistor across 85 and 86. That's what I'd match. Induction Kick reverses the polarity and multiplies the voltage 4-6 times input voltage. With an ECM I'd use the Diode but this is a manual switch.

      Seems like you should or the kit should come with Ground wires for the lights. What's the point if that current is traveling on stock smaller AWG wire?

    • @tonyfremont
      @tonyfremont 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You definitely need to ground the headlamps. If they're short and straight to a decent body ground, you don't really need to increase their size. Shorter wires can be smaller gauge and still work okay. Current flow AND length are how you should size wire. There are charts all over the place. Be careful about copper clad aluminum (CCA), stay away from it, it's garbage. You want rea solid copper (OFC) type wire. If you crimp connectors, check temperature of them in operation to be sure you don't have some resistance in there. Make sure nothing gets hot, check every connection point, plus the wire itself.

    I’m building a drag race only 1989 mustang. All the factory wiring has been removed. I purchased new headlight, marker light and park light plugs. I’m looking to just run these to a basic switch to activate low beams just for racing at night. Not concerned with high beams. Also just tail lights, and not concerned with brake lights working. What do you recommend? Thanks

    • @Yvola
      @Yvola 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      there are often things that will always have power, often cars will have a little clock or digital display,
      a red beeping "security" light, you can switch on many interior lights without the car being turned on with the key, since power comes straight from the battery through that red wire there will always be power going to it however if it isnt going anywhere else from there the battery usage is minimal to non existent 👍

    your design diagram is fault. if you connect your headlights directly to the battery, you taking a lousy chance on battery kill the high lamp. mine connected to the starter, to the fuse box for safety. you are pulling too much juice off the battery when the headlight turns on. there is no safety on this schematic, might even fry the wiring when the high beam turns on.
