    Sometimes it's the shows that don't last long, that leave the longest lasting impression. That may be the case with the X's, a one season show about a family of spies working together to take down the bad guys and blend into normal society. So for today on our Remember series, let's take a look at what The X's was, what happened to it and see if you remember it at all.

      So, when I first saw the thumbnail, a vague memory of this just existing resurfaced..! I never really got into the show; and I think that was more because I was watching new nickelodeon shows less and less at that age.
      I thought at first that I didn't like the art style; the dad and daughter look pretty good, as far as the family of The X's go (the mum kinda terrifies me, ngl), but the rest of the show looks really nice!!

    I watched this show religiously back in 2005 when it first aired. It was a brand new cartoon that felt like it was going to stick around for a long time. Sadly, it lasted only for one whole year; no kidding. The premier and last episode were on the same day just a year apart.

    • @alexkumaratunga2834
      @alexkumaratunga2834 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The difference with El Tigre, and future one season shows from 2007-present, is that those shows at least had 26 episodes. If Nick put the season number to two for the later short lived shows, like El Tigre, then people wouldn't be comparing El Tigre with Catscratch and X's, which both got 20 episodes. The thing with the 2007-2009 Nicktoons is that they had decent episode numbers, but terrible season numbers, which made people think they were shorter than they actually were. Making Fiends is the only short-lived Nicktoon at that time that's reflective of that fact, through its season number and episode length. The rest of them are actually a little longer than what people think. Mighty B, Barnyard, Penguins, and Fanboy and Chum Chum had episode numbers similar to that of the past shows as well. Tak and El Tigre almost have the exact same number of episodes as Zim; if you split the season number to two, then most people would be comparing them to Zim, instead of the X's.
      X's and Catscratch's 20 episode number for their first and only season is exactly the same as Invader Zim's, and a lot of shows from the late 90s to early 2000s, first season of 20 episodes, while El Tigre, Tak, and other short lived shows down the line had a first season number extended to 26. They only did this once with Hey Arnold, but it became a lot more common once El Tigre aired.

    • @alexkumaratunga2834
      @alexkumaratunga2834 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If there is one thing positive I will say about this is that the season number for the first season of later shows would usually be consistent. For the most part, from El Tigre to It's Pony, it's either between 20-26, whereas the shows from the 90s to 2000s ranges from 6 to 13 to 20. Most of them got a 20 episode first season, but there were some weird outliers like FOP and Chalkzone.

    This is an idea I would like to discuss about, since it is interesting to me:
    I've noticed that Avatar, X's and Catscratch are Nicktoons that have an......interesting historical relationship:
    1. All three of these shows were the first shows to air after the network started to prioritize on Spongebob (which was after the first movie).
    2. All three of these shows aired before Cyma Zarghami became the official president of the network; her leadership saw future shows being treated harshly likely because of Spongebob, basically taking the growing problem and exemplifying it. This could imply that these three shows were the peak.
    3. All of these shows aired later in Scannel's preidency, and would be screwed over the most in the Zarghami era.
    4. The way that these shows were treated would set the bar up for how future shows were treated:
    Ex:
    1. Avatar was likely spared since it got ratings that rivaled Spongebob, which made the network wanting to expand the franchise through movies and spin-offs. This is similar to how the Loud House is treated nowadays because of that show and its ability to rival Spongebob. Only reason I could think why they didn't make more episodes for Avatar is because the show's serialized nature made it impossible for the network to air more episodes on the network, so they probably granted the creators wishes on just giving them 61 episodes because of that. But they are still willing to admit that the show is still their beloved creation by giving it a spin-off , a new studio, and a movie 5 years after the show aired, like how the Loud House got a movie 5 years after that show aired.
    2. Catscratch didn't get the ratings that were comparable to Spongebob; the network, as a result, canceled the show and screwed it over terribly, which is something that most 2007-present shows had to suffer unfortunately.
    3. The X's familiar nature resulted in people not giving it a chance, and the network screwing it over harshly because of that. Similar to how Welcome to the Wayne and Pinky Malinky are treated.

      @JamesLawner 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I feel like a similar thing happened to CN in the mid-to-late 2000's where the network basically screwed over its creators and shows and then started fixating on things like live-action shows and other shit. Look how they treated Thundercats 2011, Sym-Bionic Titan, and Young Justice.

    0:22-0:28. I love how the Nicktoon that everyone criticizes for being an Incredibles rip-off wasn't even trying to be an Incredible's rip-off.

    The X's even had a "Grandparents' Visit" Episode where Trudys' parents come to visit and they don't know that their daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren are all Spies. The real kicker here is that the Grandparents are not entirely helpless in a pinch: because they are both Cops. Which in itself is a very interesting juxtaposition to see happen especially when the Grandparents inadvertently defeat and arrest Glowface simply because he was caught littering.

    My one and only memory of this show is an episode where the family goes to an amusement park and the boy is scared of the mascot, then at the end of the episode Glow Face tries to get at them by disguising himself as the mascot just in time for the boy to shoot him with a plasma gun on their way out or something.

    I watched The X's mainly on NickToons cable channel and love it!( Especially Trudy and Tuesday! Love their designs!) I missed it when during commercial breaks, the creator would illustrate Globe face and even gave some insider info on not giving up on your dream! That was inspiring enough for me to pursue my dream in art- to which I still pursue to this very day!

    I do remember this show but only barely. I can for the life of me only remember a single line from a single episode, where the bad guy, who I don't even fully remember, looks at a bowling score as he is losing to the X family, and claims. "Is this like golf? low score wins?" Other than that I don't remember a thing about this show but every so often I remember that laugh and smile.

    Was waiting for you to get to this one! Of the obscure, B and C-grade Nicktoons out there, I watched The X's quite a bit. However, I don't remember a lot of the show, partly because it was so short-lived, and partly because it really wasn't that great. I think Patrick Warburton voicing the dad is the main reason why I stuck around, lol. Still, I remember enjoying the villains a lot, and the Spanish soap opera episode.
    Nowadays, I think El Tigre and Kappa Mikey are more memorable, worthwhile cartoons. The X's is more generic and boring than most of them. Not one I ever plan on rewatching.

    The only reason I remember this is mainly due to the voices and the art style giving them weird faces. But the style looked so unique, I couldn't forget it
    Also thanks to this crossover I wrote where Trudy straight up got kicked into the sky by Nicole Watterson. It has been 12 years chronologically. She still hasn't come back down.

    2005 is arguably the biggest year for most obscure Nickelodeon shows as This, Mr. Meaty, and Catscratch all aired that year.
