Thanks so much for watching! So... watching through this show again, made me want to watch Teen Titans again... should I make a video on Teen Titans at some point?
I remember the episode where Yumi entered a hot dog eating contest but she could only eat hotdogs during baseball games so ami did a whole baseball game by herself so Yumi could win
I remember this one episode where Yumi dialed back Ami's clock so that she'd wake up five minutes later so that Yumi could get some extra sleep. But in doing so, Ami did everything throughout the day five minutes slower. So they're playing catch with a frisbee if I remember, and Yumi throws it at Ami, but it hits her in the face and knocks her over. But she doesn't feel anything for five minutes and lays there on the floor, before suddenly feeling pain. Of all the episodes I watched back in the day, that's the one that sticks out to me the most. The idea that waking up five minutes later makes you five minutes slower is so funny to me!
Count me in on this! It was so memorable, with how Ami’s schedule was strictly followed down to the millisecond! But I didn’t get the ending, where how Yumi snoozes the alarm clock and Ami just stands there.. petrified. What was up with that?

So crazy story. I went to an Anime Convention where Ami and Uni came as guests. I went to a panel they were hosting which was sort of how they became a band and answer fan questions. This one kid, who had to be around 17 to 20 went up to the mic and said a really long paragraph directed at Ami in Japanese. After he finished Ami looked shocked, then Umi translated what he said. This American guy tried asking Ami out. Then Ami replied with something along the lines “Do you Americans not know we are in our 40s, married, with kids?” He noticeably made them insanely uncomfortable and the whole crowd just stares daggers at him. This guy put his head down and speed walked to the exit with tears coming down his eyes. It was the absolute cringiest thing I ever saw. He literally wrote, learned, and spoke an entire love letter in Japanese and read it out loud in a crowd of several hundred other American people to a famous Japanese idol guest at an American convention panel and was actually shocked and devastated when he was shot down. This wouldn’t have even been okay to watch if they were the same age and she wasn’t married. If anyone else saw this at Anime Boston (2018 or 2019 I think) please tell me what you thought when you saw this.
That's pretty amazing. How fragile do you have to be to feel "visibly uncomfortable" when you're the equivalent of a CEO getting a love letter from some autistic little intern girl? Sucks for the rest of the audience, though, of course. That was time dedicated for THEM propping up the 1-in-10 000 women next to men who put themselves out there and be cringe. Putting yourself out there is the only reason anyone should want to ask YOU out, and obviously most women are so passive that only the divaest of divas are actually worth asking out, unless you jsut want to buy a blind bag and ask a girl out only for her looks.
I really like that they interjected some Japanese into the dialogue, it was fun. Also Janice Kawaye speaks Japanese so I think its really cool whenever she gets to use it, like that one episode of Teenage Robot where Jenny can only speak Japanese.
Would love to see a Cage the Elephant based animated show like you mentioned in the video Jordan, they're one of my favorite bands! And Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi was one of my favorite shows growing up, I always wondered why it was so chill and appreciate you revisiting the nostalgia.💖
I highly remember Puffy AmiYumi: fun show, colors are vibrant, and love their music. J-pop was trending in mid-2000’s, I bought Puffy AmiYumi CD music based on CN. I also found two albums at a bookstore; the songs are in Japanese and I love each and every songs.
DUDE! This show was such a good part of my childhood, I love the character design so much, and now it makes sense why. I have a vivid memory of getting the tour bus as a birthday present! This show slaps.
This & ed edd n eddy are cartoon network shows I'm obsessed with. They always had a certain charm to them for me. Man do I miss the 2000s era of cartoon network. I also love dexter's laboratory, class of 3000, courage, the powerpuff girls, codename kids next door, the grim adventures of billy & mandy, foster's home, and johnny bravo.
Fun fact: When first seeing episodes of the show, the actual Ami and Yumi asked if they were meant to be a couple in the show- not in an offended or weirded out way, from what was described, but in a laughable way. The team affirmed that they weren't, but because they had such a laugh about it, they made an unused storyboard of the two characters kissing. You can still find it online pretty easily.
I haven't thought about this show in years, I was so obsessed with it as a kid to the point that I got my parents to get me one of Puffy Amiyumi's albums for my birthday
I can’t even imagine how a cartoon version of the band Cage the Elephant would be - their name alone should be a title of a cartoon. Also was super shocked and excited hearing their name in a random TH-cam video (okay, I started binge watching last week, totally not random).
My mom rented a DVD with some episodes of this show when I was little. I remember absolutely adoring it. My whole life I could never remember the name, and recently it resurfaced, I'm greatful, I can now relive this childhood memory
OMG I totally remember this! I was 11 and so excited to have characters that were Japanese and punk rock, just like me! This was amazing and I totally forgot until just now, thank you!
I love when you cover these things asking if we remember and how I can admit to how specific things have been glued to my young child brain. So for this one I remember in order of frequency it pops in my head: The intro, the weird future episode but mostly on how the manager really needed his nose itched (yes this is second), the association with the titans intro, the cute as heck bumpers, finally the Yugioh parody. That’s all hope you have a nice day and thanks for making this video
I ADORED this show as a child, the music was fantastic and the overall vibe was just very pleasant. While I was growing up, I always really enjoyed shows that centered around music, being a musician. Great video Jordan! And yes, I would love to see a Teen Titans video! I recently rewatched the series after not seeing much since childhood, really glad I did!
I never forgot this show. Every few months or so for the last 10 years the theme song just appears in my head and then it’s stuck in my head for the next 2 weeks
AHHHHH I remember having the dolls where they'd interact with each other when they joined hands! It was the actual jpop idols tho. I also had the mini figures of the cartoon characters!!! I loved this show so much! It actually got me into anime. I didn't get into vocaloid until I graduated highschool tho.
Pretty cool to see someone with some enthusiasm and interest for this show once in a while. Most of the time, I usually hear how it's not anything special or wasn't up a reviewer's alley, which is OK, but after a while, you begin to wonder if anyone liked Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi. I can understand why it doesn't get looked at too often since it was one of those cartoons that fell between the cracks and didn't get as iconic of a status as those like Ed, Edd, 'n Eddy, Samurai Jack or Teen Titans, so that makes videos like these even more interesting to sit through as a result. Everyone loves Teen Titans, but how many people loved Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi? Anyway, it wasn't a show I was a huge fan of, but I didn't mind leaving it on and just chilling out with it like Jordan here. So yeah, cool video. Brought back nice memories.
Who could forget this show? It was a cult classic CN favorite. I loved japanese culture including the music so I listened to Ami Yumi as a kid. I still do and get nostalgic. ✨
I revisited some episodes of the show this past Summer, and it's still funny to this day. I also recently met Keon Young, the voice of Kaz at Retro Toy Con, and he was really nice. I got a signed poster of Kaz signed by him.
Yes!!! I loved this show! The theme song was soo good! So was the Teens Titans theme song! And yes, I'm sorry Jordan...I in fact was aware that they made the Teen Titans theme song lol 😆
Loved the show! I had both the toys with the tour bus and the dolls of the singers too. When you put their hands together, the sing the theme song. I didn't realize they did the theme song for Teen Titans until one of the songs from the Mad Mod episodes also was used in the show.
This show, but especially the band IRL, is so good! They released a new album this year even, "The Puffy", cannot recommend that one enough! "Pathfinder" has been on repeat for me since it came out...
I used to dance the hell out of their theme song in my brother’s room. He had that old-ass big PC and when I was home alone, I locked myself in his room and would dance to it. Ami & Yumi and Bratz Rock Angelz were a big influence in my baby metalhead era when I was a child lol 🖤
I was lucky enough to see Puffy Amiyumi perform live when they came to LA 5 years ago! But oh man, a key demo of ages 6-11...I was 16 at the time of watching lol Reminds me of the days when I struggled to get Jpop in America without paying $30 at Suncoast. Anywho, I like the idea of Manga vids coming up and maybe some anime to? SUBSCRIBED!!
It was probably apart of everyone's childhood favorite TV show lists because it was so cool & so influence plus it made me so curious about Japanese culture. It was also why I love singing my favorite songs in Japanese from the old show & some of my current favorite animes.
I liked this show a whole lot! My sister and I even had some of the toys :) we sorta related to the girls- me more Ami and her more Yumi. That was around the time I started to get more into Japanese media as well, so it was real neat having a show like this.
This was one of the shows the introduced me to anime as a kid (besides A:TLA). I really enjoyed this series, even if I didn't fully understand the anime references 😅
I was in grade school when this show was airing. I vividly remember my best friend (at the time) and I being absolutely obsessed with this show for the 2-3 years it was on TV. She acted as Ami while I was Yumi and we would act out scenes from the episodes during recess. We also spent a good majority of the time singing any song we knew by Puffy, which was mostly the Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi theme song, the Teen Titans theme songs, and "K2G" in the episode "Mad Mod". Our Japanese was terrible (we were 11), but we sure had fun!
I discovered this show long ago, and I did like it! I liked both Ami and Yumi, but Yumi was my most favorite, and unfortunately, I didn't really like Kaz or care about him too much, but it was a nice show regardless!
Interesting retrospective. Since I'm half Japanese myself, I did get the band's soundtrack when I was a kid, but found the show itself to be just another 2000s comedy show with shallow anime trappings, not too far removed from Kappa Mikey, even if their affection for Japanese anime was genuine. It is at least an interesting time capsule of changing attitudes to Japan, pop culture wise, seeing how far they had come since the days when late 80s to early 90s Disney afternoon shows and even Cartoon Network shows like Johnny Bravo were still using embarrassingly stereotypical Yellow Peril villains (and this was already decades after the Second World War).
They became my favorite band after the Beatles. They are the female Beatles. And damn, the group has MY age! They also did covers of a few Beatles songs.
I actually just remembered this show about 2 weeks ago when talking to a friend I remember loving it. I definitely attribute this show to the start of my love for J Pop.
Ah yes.....HiHi Puffy AmiYumi, arguably one of the most loved cartoons of its time. And Ami Onuki and Yumi Yoshimura were the crushes of many a child, and probably one of the main reason why they grew up to love anime girls. But really though, the cartoon incarnations of the famous Japanese music duo were and still are some of the coolest and cutest characters in any CN show.
I vaguely remember hearing the theme song of this show, maybe seeing a few episodes but didn't remember more honestly since it was a long time ago. I love these videos of yours, helping me rediscover old forgotten memories
Hi! Do you think you could do an episode covering The Secret Show? I remember watching it all the time when I was little, but ever since it feels as if it never existed! Thanks for going over this show! I was constantly moving when this show was running, so I would barely get to watch it due to not having access, but whenever I would be at my grandma's, this was one of the shows that I would put on to watch! It made me even give Teen Titans a chance and my grandma and I would always dance around to the openings. I have to say, this show and the reasons of how it became always stumped us and since we didn't have the internet, we would talk about conspiracy theories about Cartoon Network.
I miss this show so much. It was my absolute favorite. Even my little brother got into it. Also.. unpopular opinion: Teen Titans Go is an awesome show and it's hilarious. Still not as good as the original though.
Geez! I saw this one when I was a kid and sometimes still think about it and every time it's "wait, what was the name"? This time you really took something back from the depths of my brain.
Yes! I loved this show when I was a kid. I still have Planet Tokyo burned into my mind forever because it's so catchy! Also you can laugh if you want but I had a crush on Yumi lol. I also remember the episode where she becomes a ninja. I thought she was so badass lmao. There's also an episode I remember that's nothing but a Yu-Gi-Oh parody. I miss the early 2000s so much.
I have 3 favorite episodes from each season: Season 1's "Collect All 5" where Ami goes absolutely obsessed with collecting that one missing cereal toy, Season 2's "Time Off" where Yumi tries to get out of Ami's tight schedule by messing with her clock and that screws with Ami's mind hard, and Season 3's "Sound Off", where Duck Amuck style antics ensue.
Thanks so much for watching! So... watching through this show again, made me want to watch Teen Titans again... should I make a video on Teen Titans at some point?

I keep coming back to this video just to read this comment

I think he had a stroke
Hmm have you tried posting this story on a puffi ama Yuma or anime con subreddit?
Also cant forget about how fire adult swim line was at the time and the amazing anime dubs
You forgot chowder sir
Yess to all of these but don’t forget Samurai Jack!
Evil Con Carne!
I used to LOVE this show. It seems most people forgot about it sadly
I haven't thought about this show in years, I was so obsessed with it as a kid to the point that I got my parents to get me one of Puffy Amiyumi's albums for my birthday
Keep them coming Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi is so underrated I was just Cartoon Network bumpers with them in it miss those old Cartoon Network bumpers.
The cn city bumpers were the best
I can’t even imagine how a cartoon version of the band Cage the Elephant would be - their name alone should be a title of a cartoon. Also was super shocked and excited hearing their name in a random TH-cam video (okay, I started binge watching last week, totally not random).
I went to one if their concerts at an Anime Convention a few years ago and it was actually cool hearing them the show intro and the Teen Titan intro.
I loved this show growing up! I didn’t realize how long ago it came out..feeling really old rn haha
I used to draw so much fanart of the girls!
My mom rented a DVD with some episodes of this show when I was little. I remember absolutely adoring it. My whole life I could never remember the name, and recently it resurfaced, I'm greatful, I can now relive this childhood memory
I had all the DVDs and I remember just binge-watching them. Oh, the memories.
OMG I totally remember this! I was 11 and so excited to have characters that were Japanese and punk rock, just like me! This was amazing and I totally forgot until just now, thank you!
I honestly really enjoy the little commercial cuts you do, really hits the nostalgia home. Love your work man, can’t wait to watch more
I've only seen one episode of Puffy AmiYumi when it was airing. It really stood out to me and somehow I still remember it to this day. A great show :)
I hate that show, Panty and stocking is better.
@@NicholasBarton2005 if you hate Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, then why did you reply to a comment on a video about Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi
I’m my opinion, both shows rock. Panty and Stockings was basically an Adult Version of This show.,
I love when you cover these things asking if we remember and how I can admit to how specific things have been glued to my young child brain. So for this one I remember in order of frequency it pops in my head:
The intro, the weird future episode but mostly on how the manager really needed his nose itched (yes this is second), the association with the titans intro, the cute as heck bumpers, finally the Yugioh parody.
This man included the cartoon city bumpers as bumpers of his own show.
Massive respect.
I never forgot this show. Every few months or so for the last 10 years the theme song just appears in my head and then it’s stuck in my head for the next 2 weeks
I used to love that show! Hope it makes it to HBO Max
You should do "Whatever happened to Robot Jones?" one day!
This show was a blast. I remember watching it. I've only had faint memories of this.
Happy to see it getting recognized.
of course i remember this show as a kid i based my personality and desperately wanted my aesthetic to be like both characters 😭
I loved this show so much. I always bring it up when reminiscing with friends and they rarely ever remember it😭
I revisited some episodes of the show this past Summer, and it's still funny to this day. I also recently met Keon Young, the voice of Kaz at Retro Toy Con, and he was really nice. I got a signed poster of Kaz signed by him.
1:37 Downfall of Diddy
Yet another cartoon i loved as a kid but haven't seen in years.
Completely forgot about this... Thanks for bringing me back man lol
I miss this show...I adored Puffy AmiYumi and still do :)
Cartoons and video games back in these days…absolutely legendary. Growing old really is a pain in the ass.
I liked this show a whole lot! My sister and I even had some of the toys :) we sorta related to the girls- me more Ami and her more Yumi. That was around the time I started to get more into Japanese media as well, so it was real neat having a show like this.
I miss this show so much I even remember seeing statues of their characters at the Cartoon Network store at the CNN building in Atlanta years ago
This was one of the shows the introduced me to anime as a kid (besides A:TLA). I really enjoyed this series, even if I didn't fully understand the anime references 😅
It's been close to 2 decades since I've seen this show and yet I still remember it's theme song so perfectly.
Fun Fact: Puffy AmiYumi also appeared in an episode of Kappa Mikey
I was in grade school when this show was airing. I vividly remember my best friend (at the time) and I being absolutely obsessed with this show for the 2-3 years it was on TV. She acted as Ami while I was Yumi and we would act out scenes from the episodes during recess. We also spent a good majority of the time singing any song we knew by Puffy, which was mostly the Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi theme song, the Teen Titans theme songs, and "K2G" in the episode "Mad Mod". Our Japanese was terrible (we were 11), but we sure had fun!
I loved this show! It opened my to J-pop and K-pop music.
This video awakened a memory, wow.
I had completely forgotten this show existed, but this brought it all back!
I discovered this show long ago, and I did like it! I liked both Ami and Yumi, but Yumi was my most favorite, and unfortunately, I didn't really like Kaz or care about him too much, but it was a nice show regardless!
Holy shit this video unlocked the memory of this show that I’d never recover unless seeing this !!!!!! 😳
I actually remembered watching this show as a kid, and I enjoyed it.
This show has never left my heart. ㅠㅠ
I loooved this show as kid. Yumi was my favorite, she reminded me a bit of Buttercup, who is my favorite Powerpuff girl
I remember this! I loved the show! Thanks again Jordan.
i never forgot about this show! i adore it with all my heart 🥺
I always wondered why they never voice acted their animated counterparts
This was one of my favorite shows to watch while I would shirk off doing my homework
Please validate my belief that this show was not just a vivid dream only I experienced! Also love your channel, this episode has earned my subscription :)
I remember loving this show so much!!! I still think about it from time to time! isn't funny how things like this stick with you? also I used to really love that desktop game puffy treasure island!!!! 🏝️
I love this show! It's really adorable!
I know.
I used to love this show and all their music is so good!
Cartoon Network of today unfortunately doesn't remember this good show. New Cartoon Network sucks
It came out the year I was born :p sucks how many shows I've missed.
I used to dance along when I was a child great show. We had it the best back then
I don’t remember watching the show but I must have because i distinctly remember having a beach towel with them on it
I have 3 favorite episodes from each season:
Season 1's "Collect All 5" where Ami goes absolutely obsessed with collecting that one missing cereal toy,
Season 2's "Time Off" where Yumi tries to get out of Ami's tight schedule by messing with her clock and that screws with Ami's mind hard, and
Season 3's "Sound Off", where Duck Amuck style antics ensue.
I also love how even this Cartoon Network show got parody in Kappa Mikey in episode Battle Of The Bands
