      Matt WhoisMatt Johnson do you have tips and tricks for shooting manual focus... cuz I use autofocus atm but it really sucks... most shots are not really in focus and sometimes auto of focus.

    YES YES YES!!!! Thanks man this was AWESOME!!! I've got a Wedding this month on the 13th!!! And I've got me and 2 shooters and this helped so much! And I would LOVE to see the full wedding man. If possible. I also love how your Behind the Scenes Guy who filmed also got your wife filming. My wife is still new to it and so is my second shooter and this will help them A LOT! Getting an understanding on how the Second shooter works is super helpful. When you get caught up with your weddings that would also be an awesome video on how a second shooter should film. Also I really appreciate your work man. Its inspiring and helps me shoot to be a better Wedding Cinematographer. MORE MORE MORE behind the scenes! And at some point when I get the Cash I WILL contact you for your Consulting. It would be awesome to get feed back on some things. Have some fun Editing!

    Hi again Matt, second set of questions: DSLR cameras are overlooked by the general public due to their small body size i.e. there is an ignorance that the traditional massive handheld camcorders (or broadcast cameras) will achieve that professional look. Obviously the camera sensor matters most. So did you get funny looks when you first started your business using your DSLR at weddings; do you still get funny looks now and; for anyone beginning in wedding cinematography, would you recommend always having a secondary camera man with a big camcorder just to stand there looking good (pretending to film) and thus make your business look more professional? Hope my questions makes sense. Thanks and many blessings, James.

    • @whoismatt
      @whoismatt  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +JamesKiberuLuttu hey James! I try to get to know every couple I'm filming. Because I do that and they've seen my previous work, they trust me. As long as I'm not showing up with an iPhone, they don't worry about what camera I'm shooting with lol.
      That said, I've used bigger cameras at weddings and even with a bigger one you'll still get a drunk guest coming up asking you to take their picture hahaha. I let my work speak for itself and I don't stress about the camera size etc. I wouldn't worry about it if I was you.

    Love These Videos. Keep them coming please! Have you heard of anyone else use the sony a6000 for weddings? It's an incredibly cheap camera for the quality. I'm finding it harder and harder for me to justify and upgrade to the a6300,a6500 or a7sii.

    • @MayvusCSGO
      @MayvusCSGO 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adam Post I got a a7s, and I also considered those camera's.
      a7s = shallow depth of field, low light
      a6500 = autofocus, 4k, cheaper lenses, lighter

    • @apost099
      @apost099 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good too know. a6500 in body stabilization and touch screen have me interested most. Seem more like luxuries that necessities though. I feel like the steady shot lenses on the a6000 do very well

    • @MayvusCSGO
      @MayvusCSGO 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Adam Post and A6500 has face recognition, so you can save the faces of the bride and groom so it will focus on their faces in auto focus mode and not other people who are just om the background

    • @apost099
      @apost099 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm rocking that feature on the a6000 too. Very nice especially for outdoor ceremonies. Before I realized the feature existed, too many times the autofocus would move off of the people and onto the background. One of the best features for sure.

    • @LandonCramer
      @LandonCramer 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The a6000 is an amazing camera, but the reason I didn't choose to use it was the lack of an audio jack. I got the a6300 instead mostly for that feature. If thats not important to you, I think you will love the a6000.

    Great BTS. I'd love to see more BTS of other aspects of the wedding. I love how you showed the final shot right alongside of the shooting. Do you have any complete wedding videos posted anywhere? I'm interested in getting into this style of work, but not really sure what clients are actually getting as the final delivered product. The trailers you've posted give me some idea, but I'd assume your clients are likely getting more than just the trailer, right? Thanks for sharing your expertise. Keep it up.

    Thanks a lot Matt. Excellent video and tutorial. Hope you're still answering some comments. I'm a photographer, a light assistant in films and a bit a videographer. My challenge is still how to keep the manual focus accurate when moving at different distances to the subject. I know the follow focus system used by lots of videographer/DP, but I don't have that stuff and find a bit difficult anyway. So wondering how you manage to move in and out from your subjects and focusing manually with success. Any hint that I might don't know yet would be great. Thank you!

    Watching this made me so much less nervous about my first wedding shoot coming up.
    Is the vignetting in some of the footage from an ND filter? I notice a lot of my outdoor footage has a similar vignet on 2 opposite corners of my shots, that I don't see until post production, how can you correct for that in filming? Also would you recommend using auto-ISO when using a ND?

    Hey Matt! First of all , this video was one of the best ive seen so far! Excellent job putting this together :)) I was watching your videos for some time but i got to this video only now, and its incredible. Thank you so much! I have just one question, and thats why did you change resolutions through the filming process? For example at 9:12, why did you film at 1080p and not at 4k? I know that maybe its because camera can have some limitations, for example no 60fps at 4k... But im guessing thats not the case with the Sony's.

    why do you shot at 30fps for slowmo? i have a canon 5D markIV and ive shot in 30fps a couple times but when slowing it down its still all choppy, os i just stay with 60fps the majority of the time

  • @brentos96
    @brentos96 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you ever encountered a photographer that was difficult to work along side, maybe was trying to call the shots and gave little to no respect to you?
    I get that most are very pleasing, and understand that all media has to work together to deliver the best product for the bride and groom, but I'm wanting to jump into the industry, but worried that I might be stepped on if it's one of my first times and I'm not displaying enough confidence.
    Is it as simple as getting a backbone, and faking it till you make it?

    You are so awesome bro, definitely a big help watching this kind of behind the scenes, I look forward to more.
    A couple of quick questions if I may :
    1) do you ever consider shooting 120fps on your A7sii, i notice you stuck to 60fps for slow motion.
    2) you had a prism thing and your wife mentioned using a mirror , how do you use these ? Any Examples of effective shots you made ? I'm guessing you might of covered these in the past but I've missed it. Thanks

      Hey thanks! I usually shoot at 60 unless I need things to be REALLY slow. 120 is usually too slow for me lol. Also 120fps crops in a lot which I don't like.
      If you watch the dancing portion of the video I have several shots toward the end that I used the prism for, and I used it in the trailer as a transition between dancing and the exit shots.

    For the handheld shots are you just using post editing stabilization or do you also have the lens stabilisation on when shooting too?

    Hey Matt! Hope you're well, great video by the way! Given that the Sony is a low-light monster, how is it shooting at 16,000iso?? Do you start to get grainy images? Also, what do you use to record all the audio for speeches etc?
    I'm shooting on a Lumix and I'm finding it harder and harder to shoot in low-light, any tips??
    Thanks for all your knowledge and again great video!

      +Zach Davies thanks Zach! It shoots great at high ISO. I don't worry about grain unless I'm above 32,000 ISO but I've shot at up to 80,000 when I need to. I have an audio gear video I would recommend you checkout where I go over EVERYTHING I use to record. It's on my channel :).
      Panasonic cameras are great, I do wish they were better in lowlight though. I would recommend getting a light. Check my kit page in the description I link to the light I use there.
