The most important tip we can pick up from this is how to direct the bride/groom. That's the skill that will let someone graduate from being the second shooter to getting their own jobs. I like how you helped make it fun for them while being sure you got the shot you wanted.
I don't know how you put up with the "cheesiness" (?) of all this weddings but I LOVE your work and how much you put into these videos! Forever thankful✌️
dang, the prism trick during the make-up getting ready at 6:51 and the back up recorder on the mic at the reception at 17:43 are really, REALLY good tips. Awesome info. And the dance floor light you can adjust from your phone tip at 20:14 jeez this video is full of great advice.
Matt you are a legend! This is an incredible content, educational and FREAKING INSPIRING! Your directing skills and teaching skill are amazing. I am keen to sign up for your course
Great Job, you do some of the best BTS and have the best personality, 100% worth watching. Not sure why others don't include camera settings, that's a huge learning help. You could easily start a new channel of just BTS. Thanks
Matt i just learn some good tips from this video, i just did a wedding last friday the lighting was very challenging inside the venue, im def gonna recruit a second shooter
I follow Scott McKenna, wedding film school, Kraig Adams. Tyler Herrington, Ray Roman, Gear Glasses and Gadgets and several others. These are all mainly wedding videography content creators and educators on youtube. They are all very good and informative channels, but, if you are wanting to learn from the best educator, communicator, very bright videographer, then Matt Johnson has them all beat hands down. I am a 20 + year videographer and Matt is the best of them all. I just wanted to put this out there. I do not know Matt but if I was wanting to hire a videographer, he would be my first choice. If you have not subscribed to his channel, I suggest you do so right now. You will not regret it. Please keep making video's for your youtube channel. Thanks Matt!
Hey Matt! Love your stuff man... Hey wanted to ask you, what was that prism/glass you used when you were taking the shots by the mirrors?? I could definitely use one... Thanks man!!
Hi! Cool video. I notice that one of your cameras are recording 30fps and the other 24. Are you going to slow down the 30fps to 24 to get a little smoother look? Will such a small change make any difference? Thx! Enjoyed the video 🙏
I at almost halfway the video. Qhat picture profile did you shoot the indoors in?? They look so good.. its not slog cause the iso is 200? Was it cine 4 or cine 2 or just no pp (With any modifications in creative)?? Btw Love youe videos matt. Keep them coming!!
Morning bro, very educational video. Question, whats the name and model of the lights? Looking for portable lights but if you've upgraded to something better feel free to let me know. Better yet can you do a review of your favorite wedding lights?
Matt thank you for another amazing video! how do you get the colors to match so well even though you're using different lenses? I have an A7SIII, A7RIII and A7III Sigma art 50mm, Tamron 28-75, Tamron 17-28 and two Sony 70-200s and the images on all three cameras are completely different based on what lens I put on!! I'm still new to wedding films so im not confident enough to be using Picture profiles like s-log etc because im scared myself and my second wont be exposing properly and ruin the footage? any tips on how to make the colors consistent for a good base on my cameras?
Matt please help me. I just received my a7siii. I have been trying to reassign the movie record button on the top of the camera to the C1 or any button on the back of the camera. Is this possible?
Great BTS, Matt, as always! Just one question - how do you get your handheld shots that smooth without any stabilization? No OIS, no IBIS, gimbal or a monopod!
Hey Man, great stuff. Older video I know but i noticed you are shooting ISO 200-400 in a lot of these. Curious as native for slog2 is 1600 on a7sii. What profile are shooting if not slog
If Matt is too busy, I’d appreciate any other input on how to solve my problem of moving the record button function from the top of the camera to a button on the back. Thanks
Hey Matt! I love your content, and one my favorite mini series you’ve done is your pc builds. Since canon has a new 19k sensor can you make a video for a cheap 19k video editing computer?
Okay I got a question. How is it that every wedding you do seems to run so smooth and the couples are so cool? I know you’ve been doing this for years and charge way more so you get better clientele, but I’ve shot a couple weddings and it’s always something. Like how do you deal with things not going right or not working right? Every wedding I’ve shot. Something has always been a problem. I dream of the days of stuff running this smoothly.
Simple answer: FilmStrong is Expensive. When you charge $4k-$6k or more for every wedding you get brides who also pay a lot for wedding planners/coordinators. When ALL vendors are pros and know what they’re doing scheduling is a breeze. But also, things will always go wrong and be rushed sometimes. Gotta just adapt and conquer. 🤷🏼♂️
Great to see the BTS - thanks for that. I noticed you sometimes film at 24fps and sometimes 30, I was just wondering if there was a specific reason for doing that?
@@whoismatt thank you...got it. also matt, i have looking the same light stand you are using...the easy setup model where you just lift and place it. may i know what is the model of that sir? would you recall where you bought them?
Matt... Listen. I guarantee 90% of your audience is not a wedding filmmaker. My wife sits with my mom, sister and her friends to watch your BTS. It's like a freaking T.V show to them.

Thanks for watching!
Great video!!! If you can only take one lens to a wedding and film all day and night.... What lens would you choose or buy?
wow amazing show us more! and maybe the editing process too:D
Nice!! You really like that 135, looks great!

Is there a good reason to shoot 30p mixed with 24p for getting ready shots. Very curious!

Hi Matt,
Great content as always.
May I know where you got your black sleeve for the microphone?

What camera bag are you using Matt? Couldn't see it on your kit list
If Matt is too busy, I’d appreciate any other input on how to solve my problem of moving the record button function from the top of the camera to a button on the back.

Hi Matt, is there a reason why you decide to shoot the parents dance in 24fps and 60fps?
Hey mat, What focus type are you using?
Hey Matt! I love your content, and one my favorite mini series you’ve done is your pc builds. Since canon has a new 19k sensor can you make a video for a cheap 19k video editing computer?
Excellent vid Matt, thank you! I'm curious though, why did you have one camera recording at 24fps and the other at 30fps?
Hi! What pp do you use?
Didn't you grab the white tascam for the bride but I see you putting on the black one during letter reading?
Does the a7sii have heating issues?
Your handheld footage looks amazing! Do you put a stabilizer on that in post?
Usually not, just lots of practice with steady hands haha
Hey Matt I loved the video! Do you have to add any kind of warp stabilizer to your handheld footage?
do you usually run as a crew or solo?
Matt great BHS video. Can I ask where did you get the sleeve to fit over the microphone ? Cheers. Dave from the UK.
Thanks Dave! Sleeve is from a company called MicFX
my question is you mic the bride ok we see it but after the ceremony how you take it off and the stickers?
How are your handheld shots so stable?
Lotsa practice + camera ibis 😜
Anyone know where to get that microphone sock/sleeve? So handy
It’s from a company called micfx. Get the black wireless mic sleeve
@@whoismatt ahh awesome thanks so much mate! Can't find a non diamond bling version to ship to Australia 😂

good planning and preparation ahead is the key. Prepare every detail in what stuff and when to set up. These are time consumers

Hey Matt!
Great to see the BTS - thanks for that. I noticed you sometimes film at 24fps and sometimes 30, I was just wondering if there was a specific reason for doing that?
He does that so he can slow the 30 down to 24 for a dreamy affect. 24 for anything where someone is talking and he needs to match the audio.
@@mjrinfl gotcha! Thanks. I’m in the UK on PAL a lot - just realised that’s why there’s the 24 and 30 option!
@@g3nerik no worries. Yeah, just adapt that for your pal and go from there :)
sir, what do you call that elastic thigh strap where you put the tascam things?
Ursa strap

120fps at night! My GH5 would literally be like naaaahhhhh not gonna do it lol.

Filmed this in 2018 😊

Another reason why I don't mic up the bride. You gotta take it off later also.
Why the 24 and then 30 FPS ?
Im wondering when I will stop crying while editing

How is everything in your environment black lol
The only lights that needed to be daylight, the makeup lights weren't 😅
Lol yup, why I was so happy they turned them off!
I wish somebody would come up with a better solution for micing up the bride. :D it's akward if you don't have a women to do it.

I suggest correcting the title to III. Not II
This was filmed in 2018 before the iii was even a thing
title’s correct but description is not apparently. unless he knows time travel.
Haha oops! Description was wrong. A7s ii!
Hi Matt. My a7sii can't go lower than ISO 1600 when I'm shooting in SLOG3. Any idea how to change that?
