The Galleries grand opening in 1991 was something special for Broadmead..Fast forward 33 years to 2024 - 80% of the units are now empty and the entire building will be demolished to make way for student accommodation and trendy bars/cafes.
Mike Johnson No one is on their mobile giving their friends a ring. Haha! Simpler times. I'm from California 🌞 but lived in Bristol Balmoral Rd. and worked at the TK Maxx in 2004. The staff referred to me as "the american". Good times
My wife is also American (Chicago) moved here in 2003. Bristol was still good up until 2009ish. It's changed so much and I lived there from the early 1980's. It was still good in 2004. Moved to near Cardiff 5 years ago and we rarely go back now.
I remember saving up all my pound coins over the year as a young kid and coming here to get the family Christmas presents. Feel sorry for the kids now its mainly Amazon rather than going out and actually looking
Was that Future Zone on the top floor? Later became Electronic Boutique and then Game. Game moved out about 5 years ago, ending the history of it always been a Games shop.
Bristol was probably at its best for shopping in the 1990's. Used to love going in Woolworths, Future Zone/Electronic Boutique/Game, Virgin Megastrore. I remember going in Virgin Games just outside for Christmas 1992 and there was pictures of Sonic the Hedgehog everywhere. I always though things would get better but we have gone backwards. There are less reasons to go out now.
@@benfletcher9659 Both were still busy up until mid 2000's. I don't think it ever recovered from the 2008 recession it was always half empty. They are knocking it down soon.

What brought you over here and how long did you stay? I bet its changed a lot since you were here! Have you came back since to visit?
Do you remember the old food court? Before it moved to the middle floor when it was next to tkmax and where poundland is now?
@@gitbackmymushh06 They also added another floor to TX Max around 2011.

I lived in the Bristol area growing up and also liked going into that TKMaxx store! I believe it was the 1st TKMaxx to open in the UK.

I prefered Broadmead as it was Fairfax house and old woolworths
I've never seen that place so busy!
Used to get packed in the 1990's. It did not really have any competition until they built the Mall in Cribbs in 1998.
