I completely agree. Those videos do more to demotivate people or make people stop trying to learn IMO. I can easily see people saying “well, it’s been 3 months and I can only talk about basic things so I guess I can’t learn” and give up. Those videos are super misleading. I’m also a bit tired of the “foreigner speaks ‘perfect’ language” reaction videos. On one hand I recognize they can motivate people to speak when they only know basic stuff which I fully support, but on the other hand, those videos usually just show the most basic of conversations. Nobody says “what do you think of the proposals our congress made that they were reviewing on the news last night” directly after “oh wow you speak my language.”
4:49 - 5:37 Try “Blue bird languages” it has Mexican Spanish, and it’s free (it’s not like Pimsleur, but it does has a lot of vocab, sentences, and a few things more). I’ll let you discover it on your own 😁👍. #You’llThankMeLater
About series and movies to learn a language... Mmm... I felt bored because of the pauses and silence they have in series and movies. Waste of time. So, I changed to news programs. Good vocabulary, good information and you are well-informed. My English is not perfect and currently I don't study as hard as the way I used to (I have to live too) but I got 1st place in my little language school. I must have done well a couple of things. :)
They are annoying because they set unrealistic expectations and are only used as a means to clickbait. All people need to learn are some good tips and motivation to get them through the rough parts.
Personally I will recommend you some Spanish youtube channels... For instance you should really take a look at Ter (who's accent is from Spain) and if you wanna take a look to a Mexican youtube channel you could see La Vida me da Acidez (which is a podcast)...
Would you recommend the assimil book you were working in? Feel like I need to bite the bullet and buy something physical to work through but there's so many to choose from :'(
Yeah if you're looking for a physical textbook I would totally recommend it!:) I think it's a good textbook that'll get you to a intermediate~upper intermediate level!
Can't find my other comment. Let me try again without any link: That's just clickbait bs! I won't believe any of them. A year, maybe, like Jeff Brown (channel name: Ploy-glot-a-lot) who learned Arabic in a year in his video named "How to acquire any language NOT learn it!" (You should also check out his TPRS stories, they are hilarious!) What I watch most right now is Dreaming Spanish because he has "super beginner" and "beginner" level "comprehensible input" that's perfect for my level. I can even understand some "intermediate" level now. My ultimate goal is to be able to understand some "advanced" Spanish channels such as El Chombo and Luisito Comunica
Thanks for all the recommendations! I've heard of Dreaming Spanish, (in fact, just subscribed to him a few days ago,) but I've never heard of Jeff Brown! I'll go check him out!
But... Imagine you are a full time youtuber (also a language youtuber) that starts a relationship with a foreigner (who is also a full time youtuber). So these people have the time to spend the whole day practicing and using the language. In this conditions (these days there are a lot of full time youtubers) they can really get a great conversational level of any language in a week. If they are language youtubers, the already know the best way and strategy. Not impossible, I think.
"they can really get a great conversational level of any language in a week" - I respectfully disagree. Even if they managed to memorise 50 words a day (which is a lot), that would be 350 words in a week, which is not nearly enough for a 'great conversational level'. If they were really committed and motivated and had several hours a day to dedicate to their study, they could *maybe* master A1 level in a week, which is of course not the same thing as having a 'great conversational level'. The bottom line is that it's self-marketing and clickbait - nothing more.

You made some great points there! Completely agree with you!:)
Totally agree! Really fun video by the way :) love your editing style!
Good advice, being from Florida Latin American Spanish is the way to go for me, definitely most popular in the US.

Ay thank you!!
Wow! An underground Cuban bar! I need one in my city! (We are currently in our 3rd COVID lockdown here in Toronto.)
Yeah it was pretty cool! I see on the news that covid cases have been increasing a lot in Canada... stay safe :)
Talking about Cuban accent, you have to watch this video if you haven't seen it yet. "
Types of Spanish Accents - Joanna Rants"
@@tonychen4589 Ahh I haven't watched that video yet! I'll give it a watch :)
