Hi Gabi. How much did they pay you to spread lies? If you don't know anything, stop your fabricated stories about China and their investors?
If you really care about the local lives in Cambodia, why don't you help them develop and create job for them?
I get a sense that you want Cambodia to stay under developed forever for you guys backpackers from the vvest to come, exploit and destroy the cities and culture. Look at 6:09, a bunch of foreign backpackers with little clothes dancing did those absurd things to the locals. I am sure many of them take white powder and get excited and dance like no tomorrow. So shameless.

I visited Sihanoukville about 10 years ago when it was just a chilled out beach place. To see it looking like some dystopic scene in Bladerunner is beyond depressing. Also, this is the place where a lot of people have been trafficked into online scamming cartels. It's really become a dark place.

Yes because all the money is from Chinese criminal gangs. They launder their dirty money through the casinos. I believe that covid and a crackdown by the Chinese and Cambodian governments meant they needed to find alternative sources of revenue so they branched out into the boiler room thing. It is an absolute tragedy that Hun Sen and cronies have sold Cambodia down the river to such scum. Hun Sen seems to be trying to back pedal now but the damage has been done.

As a Cambodian, I feel extremely sad and ashamed to see foreign tourists come and see this side of my country and thank you for being honest about everything you experienced. I just went to Kirirom resort which is on the road number 4 as well, and damn the road is a mess, dirty, broken, all covered with water from the heavy rain and extremely dangerous. Even as a local Cambodian, a plan to visit Sihanouk ville now haven't even crossed my mind, I have not thought of visiting there ever again since all this mess happened. Believe it or not the beaches there used to be stated as one of the most beautiful beach in the world and it's shocking even to me of how all of that have drastically changed. But to see it on a brighter side, if you want to experience coastal area of Cambodia, I recommend going to Kampot and Kep province which is only about 140-180km from Phnom Penh city and everything there is better. The road is excellent, the beach is clean, a lot of tourists and backpackers, and a lot more places to visit beside the beach (you can see for yourself on google). By the way, I love your video, best of luck.

The old Sihanoukville is still here never left
You say Kep Beach, just came back from Kep a Khmer company is building a 5 star resort on Rabbit Island with Casinos, high rise Hotels and apartments.
with a cable car running from Kep Beach to Rabbit Island.
just at the kep beach village they are putting in a zip line from the top of the rainforest to Kep Beach, cutting down the Rainforest to put in the zip line so tourist can use a zip line from the top of the rainforest to Kep Beach.
They are building new beaches by building stone walls way out to sea and then building apartments where the sea was once .
Kampot and Bokor mountain is under a huge construction site the whole of Bokor mountain is being removed to build a satellite city , by a Khmer company that owns Sokha Hotels and Petrol stations in Cambodia.
Koh Rong Island is up for redevelopment by a Khmer company with 5 star luxury resorts , no more Backpackers Koh Rong Island will be for the rich only .

Phnom penh is up for redevelopment starting with the Golden Sorya Mall and Pontoon Night Club that whole city block will be Demolished this year .
Then other city blocks will follow.
Phnom penh streets and sidewalks are far too narrow for the 21 st century.
Kampot and Bokor mountain is being Demolished and a new satellite city built on top of Bokor Mountain. By a Khmer company no Chinese money involved.
KEP BEACH and Rabbit Island is being turned into a 5 star resort with Casinos, Luxury hotels and apartments.
The rainforest is being cut down in Kep Beach too build a zip line from the top of the hills around Kep Beach to New reclaimed sea .

Within 5 years Both Kep and Kampot will be 5 star luxury resorts , hotels, casinos and high rise apartments.
Koh Rong Island is up for redevelopment with luxury hotels and apartments.
Phnom penh has been turned from a third world town into a modern 21st century city .
Diamond Island or Koh Pich Island is a 21st century city within a city of Phnom Penh Cambodia.
The Mekong River is dying, dams built or being built on the Mekong River just across the border in Laos is holding back all the flood waters leaving Cambodia and Vietnam without flood waters that hold back the sea from coming further up the Mekong River into Cambodia.

Before then it was going almost every day.
Phnom penh is the fast growing city in Asia and one of the fastest growing countries in the world.
I've been using full time in Cambodia for 18 years this month.
I've never seen any gun violence, but heard rumors about it , Never been any prostitution in Cambodia, it's illegal only working girls , as Cambodia has no welfare system and for those that use the word Prostitution in Cambodia or any Asian country, have no respect for females.
Every country in the world has gambling, why not Sihanoukville or Cambodia.
You only want , what you want , as in no pollution. No high rise buildings , white sandy beaches , they are still here , never were touched , never left , still here .
This guy has never been too Sihanoukville before, only going on an old video posted by someone in 2017 .
He will come to Phnom Penh and no nothing about the Mekong River, or what Phnom Penh looked like 2/5/10/20/50 years ago.
Just another fly in fly out tourist who thinks they know everything.
He just travels around the world from country to country giving his ideas on what each place should look like .
      His headlines
      Never come here
Is just hurting the Khmer people no one else, then he says we will return next time and visit Koh Rong Island.

Your Australian friend, ask him owns Australia, all the casinos, the huge sheep and cattle stations ( ranches in other countries) who owns all the multi million dollar mansions around Sydney and Melbourne, who owns the fresh water rivers , who owns the best farm land in Australia:
The Chinese do , Australia has just opened up 100.000 new long term visa that turn into citizenship in Australia after 10 years, Chinese, Indian and UK citizens are the most wanted in that order , 100.000 new immigration visas are per year not just this year 2022 .
Just because you have a long term visa or citizenship in another country, doesn't make you legal in that country, your citizenship can be revoked at any stage and you are deported back to your original country of origin.
The Chinese or any other country can buy all the land they want and build what ever they want , but can never take it back to China 🇨🇳
The new development on Rabbit Island and around Kep and Kampot is by the Khmer company called Sokha who owns hotels and most of the petrol ⛽️ oil imported into Cambodia.
Yes the Chinese spent a fortune in Sihanoukville and upgraded all the roads , sidewalks, drainage and sewage.
Where all those large abandoned buildings are , in Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh Cambodia, who do you think owned the worthless land and buildings, Sorry shacks , living in poverty, now sold for millions of dollars now drive expensive luxury vehicles and own luxury apartments or homes , their poor poverty children now drive luxury vehicles.
Naga World Casino number 3 being built on land that Naga World paid $188 million dollars for .
Across from my apartment they are just finishing off a 62 story high apartment complex, my lounge window looks down or up on it , every day 7 days a week for 2+ years I saw hundreds of Khmer men and women walking past wearing safety gear who were or are still working on this apartment complex, doing the fit outs.
This is just 1 of hundreds of apartments being built or under construction in Cambodia with Thousands of Khmer workers involved.

I’ve been back to Cambodia a few times since, but have avoided Sihanoukville. The word on the street is ‘don’t go there’. Watching this and other videos, I don’t recognize Sihanoukville. Hi Gabi, I've been in Sihanoukville in 2011 and the transformation is astonishing to say the least. Honestly, I didn't like the city much back than but now I find it just terrible. And now, before the Chinese-sympaths start to throw s...t on me, let me share some food for thoughts: Why there are no skyscrapers or extremely few in Europe? Does the new city view follow or has any style? Cambodia has its own, extremely rich cultural heritage that has nothing to do with this beton-made, tasteless megacity. Why? I tend to agree with you that Chinese built their own city in Cambodia. I am not against development or investment, but why this way...? I'm not an engineer but I've serious doubts about the sustainability of the 'product' of this project. There are so many failed projects in history to use as lessoms. What I see here is mucchh money invested in a short time without a well-planned and designed, lomg-term strategy. And without any taste.
Thanks for sharing, I'll defenitely not go to SV again.

Vietnamese in Cambodia (including 400,000 illegal immigrants) are to be believed of course.
We are free to choose our economic partners, and prefer Mainland Chinese.
Moreover the Kinhs (Viets) who even deny the word « indigenous » to the Khmer Krom & the Chams, by calling us "Cambodian immigrants" (I am half indigenous Khmer Krom) ; don't have to come and lie about the Han Chinese.
100% of pimps in Cambodia were Viets before 2020, according to Cambodian government & French NGOs.
From 2020 to today, more than 27000 inhabitants from all over the province of Preah Sihanouk & other Cambodian provinces have come to live in the city.
World Bank, International Monetary Fund & United Nations Industrial Development Organization, say that for 7 years, Cambodians no longer go to work abroad, because the country has many vocational training centers & more jobs.

sihanoukville is cambodia only deep sea port and it need investment to expand so can attract other investment to come, if not from china easy and low interest loan where cambodia can find the money?
now so many factory open in sihanoukville because the port will expand
so if khmer people dont want this opportunity then china can move their bussines to thailand or vietnam

I had planned an heading to Sihanoukville for a week but most of the people in PP said not to that it had completely changed from a beach town to a chinese enclave where western tourists are not welcome. I also, spoke to an expat who said he had just came back from a run there and said there seems to be return of tourists from china but that he felt unwelcome in a few of the bars he went to as he was the only westerner there, he also said the was barred, for no apparent reason from entering one of the club/bars by security and that they appeared to be chinese and not Khmer.

@KhmerProtector what´s even more upset is that people in my hometown back in Vietnam are just pure victims of human trafficking. Some were taken to Sihanoukville even though there was absolute no consent. And now, Sihanoukville arises as one of the quite common topics in Vietnam. I really hope problems with illegal labor would stop. Seeing some workers suicide by jumping out of like 10-story buliding is just heartbreaking.
Regarding Chinese invesment and Sihanoukville, I cannot say anything cause I have never been there. Really hope that the locals in Sihanoukvill are having a better life :(

    • @thythong3067
      @thythong3067 ปีที่แล้ว

@KhmerProtector problem is, forces: no but implicit consent: yes. We cannot really do such acts as victim blaming like this because some are taken with partial consensus or with no consensus. What I am highly concerned is rather the question "Are they able to recognize these are scammers?". Scammers seem not to show up and tell you the brute hardcore facts or give you clear signs of a scammer. Ofc some are suspicous, we still cannot blame them totally. In rural areas, they have barely a hope to earn much better than being a mediocre worker from 5 to 9.
I have heard some cases that said they would work in Ho Chi Minh city only. With such false promise and silently bringing people to the border, I call this implicit consent. In a broader sense, a false promise, a scam and force. Force needs not to be in physical shape but also in terms of implicit consent.

    • @thythong3067
      @thythong3067 ปีที่แล้ว

@KhmerProtector lol you are getting too far from my point at the very beginning. The first comment, I already said "hoping that the locals in Sihanoukville are having a better life". Dude, the framework of what I am saying is merely within Sihanoukville, regardless of which nationalities. Not only the Viet but also the Taiwanese being brought to only Sihanoukville are what I am aiming at here.
For those boat people, you are again victim blaming. Have two governments really addressed this problem properly or just those UNCHR attempts to raise their voice? If there are no legal basis, no attempts to alleviate the issue, I dont believe they are able to move anywhere. Thus, they possess aint no passports from either Cambodia or Vietnam. Saying that they are Viet or Cambodians is already legally incorrect ;)

Last time I was in Sihanoukville was in 2003, it had a quiet country feel, very laid back, a great place to relax. Not crowded, very little traffic, and friendly people. It was one of my favorite backpacking places. This transformation of this beautiful fishing village is shocking! Simply put this is a disaster for Cambodia! It is very sad to see what has happened to this beautiful city. I would think the Cambodian people are very unhappy with this situation. A very unique city and way of life is lost, it is heartbreaking. I understand that places change over time, but this is not progress! The Golden Lion Circle is not even recognizable with so many high buildings and half finished casinos. I am glad to have been there in the early/mid 2000s. It was a highlight of my many travels. I remember one day on the beach there were 3 people as far as the eye could see and no high rise hotels! I wish the Cambodian people the very best, hopefully there can be some progress in the future to improve the mess made in this city! Thank you for posting this video.

I went the in 2019, and there was still just about enough of the backpacker side of things to get a slight feel of what it used to be like, but you could see the way it was going - bascially to be the new Macao, which is one of the most boring cities in the world if you aren't into casinos. It'll be incredibly hard to attract western tourists back, as the city is completely dead. The beaches are ok, but the scenery is ruined by construction, and there's nothing to do in the evening now. The really sad thing is that there was no need to knock the old tourist areas down. There's plenty of undeveloped land that would have been fine for the new construction.

It makes you sad to see fishing villages in other countries turned into cities. You can completely destroy the city of your own country and turn it into a fishing village, so that you can live in the countryside with beautiful environment forever. Why do you want others to stay pristine all the time?

The hotel I stayed at near the roundabout probably doesn't exist anymore. in early 2010 I travel to Sihanoukville and Koh Rong islands, the town is literally flat (apart from some villas or housing apartments) The reason I came cuz someone said to me, come see it before it changes forever. People who visited Bali or Boracay in the 80s always say it was different but of course, I had no experience comparing now and then. I'll be sure to visit Sihanoukville again to experience the changes with my own eyes. Thanks for sharing

I'm Thai and I'm not very excited about the sights and information I'm getting about Sihanoukville.
I see that it would be difficult to get back to the way it was because the contract between China and the Cambodian government would make it difficult for the city to continue. But if the Cambodian government finds a solution by negotiating the contract and bringing the city back everything will be fine
But it's going to be difficult. I can only pray that business people who only look at benefits should go away. What should they give back to society?
I have good wishes for all my Cambodian friends.
I hope the Cambodian people's power will help drive the injustice in the country. Whether it comes from politicians or foreign businessmen who come to take advantage.

@KhmerProtector When will you guys understand the positive stories?
Why is there only the deposition of each other? Racism doesn't make it any better. We all know that Cambodia suffers from war and long colonization. If you guys don't change your attitude Everything will be drowned in problems.
When you don't accept opinions from anyone. There are only bad attitudes that have been shown.
Your society will have only hatred.
Everything has to move forward together. But you only have old memories etched into your head without knowing what history was written for.
what do you know in writing a book for the people of the nation
Every government in the world writes for people in their own country to develop patriotic values.
      even sometimes it's non-existent
These things will drive you crazy.
at the master's degree or doctorate level in Thailand
Ancient stories were excavated and educated people tended to think. Analyze before believing anything I hope you can understand what I'm saying.
      That education is important.
As for the three southern provinces, it is a matter of religion and extremism.
And there are complex details that go back hundreds of years when Thailand invaded and seized these lands.
You look at the Middle East, it's the same. Religious events everywhere in the world have problems. You look at the wide angle.
It's not just reading the title and coming to the conclusion itself.
I don't have bad intentions for the Khmers, but I think
Even when I express my honest feelings, you have negative opinions.
and try to show a bad attitude
This will cause bad feelings for each other. If other people who do not know the analysis of the text came to read.
