👍🏻when I chopped and sectioned my 39 dodge sedan, I spent a few days after work laying it out instead of just cutting it, it was time well spent as everything came together nicely. Even Gene Winfield was impressed with the chop as he said that car is a hard one to chop
A friend of mine and I both have "Shoebox fords, His is a 1950, and mine is a 1949. Both of us have been into rods and customs for more than 50 years and are very experienced in building rods and customs. He decided to chop his 5 inches. So he took 4 inches out of the "A" pillar. When all was said and done he ended up with a 5 inch chop. It turned out to be WAY too much. The windshield was so short it was almost impossible to safely drive it. This was proven true when the licensing department refused to license the car with the windshield opening that small. In short, you are making a BIG mistake. That is a very solid and strait looking 50 Ford, and it's a shame for what you are about to turn it into, an out of proportion undrivable piece of junk.
Problem: 8" out of an angled section is not the same as 8" out of a vertical section. I would like to add that I immensely enjoy this show and I love Chad's "get it done" attitude.
you and the Guys are the DREAM TEAM ! its soo refreshing to see the Excellent group you have put together. every one knows their job and you all work well together. Chad...YOU are a great Mentor and Teacher !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As for me I think 8 inches is way too much. I think 4 would look good but it's Chad's and he is the one who has to be satisfied with it. Hi Jolene Doug Nathan and Chad. God bless and have a blessed night
Good point... He will have to do some relief cutting and some bending to get the posts to line up and getting the roof off center might be a problem. Proper cardboard patterns for half the windshield and the door frames and being accurate with a yardstick be necessary for sure. I remember the first early 30s chev i chopped...damn thing was held together with wood..took me half an hour to turn in into a wood pile. Lol
All of Team Hiltz together again today, you guys make such a good team and can make real progress in an hour. Doug is really good at making cuts and helping where ever needed. Nate is all around good at the task at hand and he is a really good mechanic which is something that Chad really needed. Chad does a fantastic job at metal fabrication and he is good at body prep and painting as well even though he does not do it very often! Jolene as always your camera work and videos are fantastic. Your decision making skills are extremely good as well after all we know who the boss is! I enjoyed watching the roof come off today even though Jolene is making us wait until tomorrow to see it set back on! LOL!
No matter what he does all you people have to complain. I dont get it. Its like yall have nothing better to do. He started this car saying he planed to do it to make everyone happy and yall are still giving him crap. It truely amazing. Just watch and enjoy the show it not that hard.
I hope Chad has good liability insurance for his helpers because this is an accident waiting to happen, Sooner or later one of those cutter wheels are going to explode with no guards and somebody is going to be critically hurt. I have previously warned about this with no change. If you like watching that type of blood and gore , stay tuned.
You know, you’re the first person to make a constructive suggestion to solve an obviously annoying situation. Actually, I’m not annoyed at other people’s opinions but a lot of other viewers are.
That would be awesome. One criteria….they MUST post videos of THEM doing the work..not photos. I have a feeling it would be a VERY bare web page/site. Most of these ‘critics’ builds (if they actually ever build anything) take 10 years plus to complete.
I know Chad and Jolene are good at what they do. And I enjoy watching the metal fabrication. I've learned a lot. And I know Chad is a custom car builder. Always will be. But I wonder why there always has to be a top chop. I know. They often look cool. But, you know that anytime Chad makes a purchase, regardless of the car, it's gonna get a top chop. And, in this case, its kind of sad that a perfectly good original shoebox is getting the treatment. One less original on the road.
The chop shop...lol..it did have a tall roof on it lowering it yes will make the car look good.. hopefully you get a clean cut to the back window..uuggg plasma cutter I would say..be interesting how the new back quarter panel will look...it definitely need a new look..kind of shoe box looking anyway.. changing the front hopefully it flows with the back..as for the motor small block Chevy nice..3 speed Auto 😊 and your going to actually paint this one nice so why not go all out on its engine..the chrome chevy covers with the 6 pack intake would look pretty cool when you open the hood..just saying.. interesting what this ride will look like when its done.on ward guys🎉
@@RobertGiffin-y9j did you see the chop he did live at the show? Couple of hours! Tacked together, ready to be welded. Just because YOU can’t…doesn’t mean he can’t. His shows are unedited…approx 1hr each. Figure it out. So far…this is the ‘second’ day of chopping. That’s not even TWO hours…and the roof is tacked back on.
Great comments on how to chop the roof .I'm sure Chad appreciates it since it not something he's done before or helped one of the greatest custom car builders do it , oh what 💁♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
OMG! 8"? Sorry, I know Chad likes to chop, chop, chop but this makes my stomach turn. As I said yesterday severe chops just make me see a vehicle that is just disproportionate. I'll still be following because I do learn a lot and maybe it won't be as stomach-turning as I fear. Gary
Chad since you wanted to add length to the back wy would you not cut right around the body line right below the rear window and sink the roof down and add metal to the trunk to the window which will give you everything you wanted. This is exactly why I keep telling you to take some time to do some research because you have 200,000 plus people who could give you advice and then you take what you want and throw away the rest.
I have chopped a few cars, including a beetle, which is a bit like chopping an egg. To get them to pass inspection the window height generally need to be 9 inches, that is nine inches vertical. This height changes in different states and provinces. Cops quite often have no clue as to regulations but vehicle inspection places are generally on top of things. The thing with shoe box Fords is the amount of meat above the window is so thick that it could use a section or the vehicle ends up looking some what like a guy with too much forehead. One trick is to use the stock roof and take a section out of the back - in effect shorten the vehicle by several inches, quite often the proportions work out quite nicely. Like anything there is an art to it. I come by here for entertainment Bellos Kustoms, RAC garage and Killer Kustoms are places to see some serious skill, not all the same level but certainly work most would be happy to own.

This is awesome! I am chopping the same car over on my channel Howlin wolf garage. Someone in my comments told me about this. This is awesome two different ways to do it and nothing wrong with that. Good job chad and Jolene.
Some of the comments I read seem like people think this is Chad's first chop the fun of the build is problem solving sit back and enjoy the build no disrespect intended
That's why they call him bad Chad if it's an inch off he'll make it work if it's a whole half an inch he going to make it work make it look good because they call them bad Chad love what you doing my brother keep up the good work
I'm in agreement with others, an 8"c hop seems very aggressive and there will be a lot of ground to make up on the sloped front and back glass areas. I f you pull it off it could be an epic looking ride. However there will a hell of a lot of metal working and welding. Hope you can pull it off.
When we saw the old car out back and they said the back window would be an option. I think you should safely cut the Ford rear window off and use that one outside.
At the beginning of every build that bad, Chad does there’s always a handful of people who think they know everything and start criticizing. That gets really old, and I freaking hate it !! Bad Chad probably chops cars in his sleep and does fantastic work so if you’re one of the criticize, get a life already.
No it's going to be way out of proportion too big of a chop to make it look better you'd have to suction the body and he would never do that cuz he can't
just a suggestion when I put new lights in my garage I put them where the wall & ceiling meet on a angle & wow does it really light up my shop a lot better & I 'm using less lights . new led type
Stylist's concept drawings always showed cars with way lower rooflines and lower stance than what the actual cars rolled off the assembly-lines with, because of product engineers requirements, for instance the driver should have enough overhead clearance to wear a hat, etc. This car is going to be way closer to the styling department's concept than it was. It's going to look great!
The windshield is on a sharp angle. If you cut 8 inches of metal out the front post, the roof will only come down about 6 1/2 inches straight down. Sure would like to spend a day with you!!!!!
Takes me back to the mid 60's when my Dad did a little trading and about 10 silver dollars and bought me my first car a 1950 ford. Many fond memories of he and I working on it. My 50 ford is gone along with Mom & Dad but I would love to own another one

Thank god its not another bike hauler, glad its back to the full on custom build and the chance that we may see this one go to paint is even better.
They mentioned the colour Green yesterday! Could be the Green Hornet 👍😎👌
Could be, might be a 50 ford .

Hmmm... His vision doesn't match yours. He's Bad Chad and you aren't. Did you build yours, or write some checks?
Your correct. In my minds eye , if your going that low . Go all the way to 2" windows. Then weld shut the driver's door and call her " no escape "
Yeah I think that's a little to much
Nice 👍
A heavy chop. The 50 shoe boxes I've chopped look great with a 4 4.5 inch chop. Not sure about 8
Steering wheel will almost touch the roof with a 8" cut
You’ll get deleted
Gotta censor intelligence and political realism in Canada and America
An 8” cut on the angled windshield pillar will be close to a 4” straight vertical drop if the front angle is close to 45 degrees.

My thoughts exactly. I brought up that fact with the mate I watched yesterday's video with.
yeah... and factor in the width of the cutting wheel it's probably more like 8 1/2
Look at 25 minutes 30 seconds into the video 😊
