    Had the same problem with my VTR. Took it to a garage a few weeks back, explained the problem and possible cause to the mechanic, so he did adjust the cam chain tension and balanced the carbs, though he did say he had never heard of such a cam chain problem. Now it runs sweet as, no stalling, no overheating & no backfiring from overrun

      That's great news, I hadn't heard of it until someone pointed out the horrible noise it made trying to turn over when it was hot.

    This is something I'm guilty of most of the time - doing too many things at a time and then you're not quite sure what cured the problem - ideally doing it in steps would give you a clear answer, but if you're in it, you might as well do things you encounter as you go through it. Glad to see it's fine now. Love FireStorms, was hoping to get mine sorted but ended up needing too much, so will look for another and get one - when the right one shows up. Ride safe!

      @@wsmv www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=29429 , on the right side of the carb is a throttle position sensor, to frig emissions honda set it too high at 900ohms or more when it should be 500, need a security torx to unscrew it or cut the heads off, I used a dremel, cut through half the heads and they came out easy with pliers, you then move it to the right position and replace the screws. mine feels a lot better after and I don't seem to get the sort of subtle yoyo you get from the engine at low speeds where it feels like it wants to go faster than you're holding it.
      I can also attest to CCT failure, mine went on my front cylinder last year and smashed all four valves, my own fault I was putting off doing it for far too long, had to replace them all, that was a learning experience having never cracked an engine open before. • @wsmv
      @wsmv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes absolutely, the basics are the vent hoses that sit between the carbs create a depression under heavy braking due to the airbox position.
      If you Google it the fix is really easy, slide them out of the frame and let them drop down over the engine.

    Just picked up a VTR1000 myself. When I first picked it up, started up and ran great up until 7k rpm or so and then would stop accelerating. Figured it was a carb issue so picked up the bike and cleaned the carbs and put it all back together. Now it will go through all the rpms but only just now having the issue with dying out and pretty hard to get started. I'm thinking it sounds like the same issue you've had with the tensioners. Would you agree?

    • @wsmv
      @wsmv  ปีที่แล้ว

      Very possibly mate, if it cuts out and then won't restart when hot it's definitely something I'd check, after about 30 min does ot then start OK?
      I'd get the checked anyway, overtightened cam chains are almost as dangerous to the engine as loose ones.
      Has it got manual tensioners fitted, if not then get them fitted as the automatic ones are known for failing and then it's game over.
      Great bikes though and bulletproof if everything is adjusted properly. Just be careful of the speedo though, mine seems to go up really fast 🤣🤣

      @@wsmv as it sits now I can't even make it half a mile down the road before it dies out. I checked and it does have the stock tensioners. • @wsmv
      @wsmv  ปีที่แล้ว

      The only things that really go wrong are the tensioners, you need to get those changed or you're riding a ticking time bomb. And the rectifier which causes problems and damages the electrics and battery.
      When it runs does it run well? If it does it won't be anything that is internal to the engine like valves or pistons.
      Check the tank is venting OK, if it creates a vacuum in the tank it will stop the fuel flowing into the carbs. When it next stops, open the fuel cap and listen to if air rushes in. Then try to start it.
      It maybe a problem with the pipe that goes to the tank that opens the fuel tap when the engine is running, if its split it won't be able to hold a vacuum long enough to keep filling the cards.
      Hope that's a few pointers, anything else and you may need to get it looked at by a mechanic.
      It sounds like a fuel issue to me but difficult to say without seeing and hearing it, good luck sorting in, let me know if you need more help, also the Facebook group is awesome to join and ask questions 👍

    A manual cam chain tensioner is a bandaid for a known problem. Horrible.. Think about every chain and it's duty from your bicycle to a high performance engine. A static tensioner is by name a misnomer. It's a ham fisted attempt at a problem that may exist.
    How about understanding what it actually does, realising it may be a weakness and adding fresh ( read real) tensioners at a service interval that makes sense. it's like saying OMG this bike needs an oil change sooner than I, me God, want to. Know what you are buying and don't put a wooden part into the engine. Honda has had BS engineering from time to time but most of their products (comparatively) have been sound. Wooden spokes anyone ? they don't rust.

    • @wsmv
      @wsmv  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      🤣🤣 wooden spokes would make the ride softer too 🤣🤣
      Yeah I agree thos does appear to ne one of hondas rare foul ups with the ACTC, and the manual tensioner is just a safety net rather than a perfect fix, at least if you keep on top the adjustment it avoids the fear of a high speed failure and a massive repair bill.
      Other than that what an awesome bike the vtr is 😍👍
