I too have a 90’s sportsbike and probably 15 years on you 😮 The amount of traffic and the ever decreasing speed limits draw you towards something that is fun to ride within those limited parameters, riding a machine that will break the National speed limit in first gear makes absolutely no sense at all. However, being a bit naughty is also part of the attraction ! Park the VTR up and put a sheet over it, so it’s out of sight. I guarantee that you will feel the need to uncover it at sometime in the future. Add the modern classic to the fleet and enjoy the option and potential to revisit…………….It works for me 😉
You get it Andrew, my licence is one concern, having a bike that is blisteringly fast and reactions getting slower as I get older don't mix well. I've done less that 700 miles on it in the last 12 months it's a shame to see it not used to its potential. I like the idea of having it there when I get the urge though... oh god I'm so torn. My only lesson from biking is that if you really like a bike, keep it! Bar risers and conversions are available if you want a more uptight riding position.
I know mate, I'm so torn, I could happily just polish the bike every week and look at it, it's so beautiful, it's going for it's MOT today and it's done 600 miles since last year and 350 of those were on one trip. It needs to be ridden and I don't know if I'm the person to do it justice. I did think about bar risers but don't want to spoil what is a beautiful bike. Lots to think about 😭
@@wsmv Could well be time to cruise up to the frozen North (of Wales, that is) and try one with higher bars. It's made a hell of a difference, and all reversible. Or is that reversable? One of 'em.

Sunny days and a motorbike are really all the world needs to make it a better place! 🙂 I can massively relate with the thoughts on selling a bike that isn't used properly, is why I'm planning on selling what I can of the bikes I am not using. Good luck with the sale when you advertise it. It will be a cracking bike for the right person! 🙂

Sorry to see it go, but I certainly get it - I'm in the same boat with my 79KZ650SR... not enough skill to keep it running, and having trouble finding someone to pay to keep it running. Meanwhile, it gets a measly 100 miles per year, 200 if I ride it "a lot" - so best to let it move on to the next owner, who hopefully takes care of it better than I do. PS: Glad you're on the mental mend, my friend [wow, that had a lot of alliteration in it, completely unintentionally!]

I'm not blaming age, I'm blaming how I've coped with age. 10 years in the forces and a lifetime of sports have taken their toll on my body and I don't want to be uncomfortable doing something I love 😍👍
Don't sell it. If you don't need the money, don't sell it. It is one of the best motorcycles ever, seriously. I had one and loved it. I sold all my bikes due to ill health (both mental and physical). 20 years later, despite being 65 now, am in MUCH better health and have returned to motorcycles. I now have a 2000 year RC51 (amongst others) that I saved from the grave and rebuilt. It reminds me very much of the Firestorm. It is a harder ride but working out 4 to 6 hours a week makes it manageable for hour long rides. Having said that, despite not being quite as powerful in many ways, the Firestorm is superior and that's saying a lot. Just care for it. Pretty please.
I think we all get a motorcycle itch. ER is lucky to test ride so many bikes that he doesn't get that itch. I think you need a sports tourer with a more upright position. Fast & comfortable.

Not sure if a 200mph missile is what I'm after really, fantastic bikes but I'm trying to keep my licence 🤣🤣 Yeah the temp guage does work but when I'm riding and it's cold it barely moves. When I stop it does climb a bit. I'm pretty sure the thermostat is stuck open but it more hassle than it's worth to change it, come the warmer weather it'll work as normal 👍
Ps , your so lucky with your weather down there , feel some sympathy for us northerners, up here the roads are still complete crap, fingers crossed though things will change the next few weeks for us 😁👍🏼

I sold my Laverda 1000 for the same reasons you are considering selling your Firestorm, I didn't just want it as a collectors piece, it needed to be ridden. Looking up the reg No. from time to time it seems to have been SORN for years.... what a waste. Nice ride up the combe, I came down that way this week on my way home from a breakfast at Tubby's cafe in Dunkeswell... chilly, but sunny and dry, can't be beat.
Tubbys? I've never been there, will have to look it up, I went over chew magna and winford today after the vtr passed the mot, nice ride but it got very very cold 🥶
@@wsmv EX14 4LB it's near the runway but is not the cafe right by the airstrip, it's at the bottom of the industrial estate. The breakfast was excellent (see my instagram).

Move her out mate, ateotd it's just a teleonomic aggregate of matter 😂 I love my 150 bhp Fazer but I just replaced her with a V Strom 650 with half the power, Why? because I want to love another bike now 😛
Everyone I've spoken to regrets selling theirs, and I'm worried that I'll be the same very soon. I definitely miss the power and noise. Awesome bikes and I suspect I will get another one at some point and try to restore back to great condition 👍
