Big Screwdriver Restore

I bought this big old screwdriver for 6$. It was really beaten up and had a lot of rust, which made this a fun restoration. The old screwdriver is about 12" long which makes it pretty big.
The restoration process:
I had to cut the shank in order to disassemble it because the handle and ferrule were assembled before the tip was formed. I used electrolysis to remove all of the rust, this is one of my favorite methods of rust removal and it is very effective. The wooden handle had some cracks in it but overall it was in good condition so I decided to keep it. It got a deep and dark color when I soaked it in boiled linseed oil, which was a nice surprise.
The metal ferrule was really deformed and had a lot of dents. I made a custom tool to reshape it and it worked great. The ferrule also had a crack in it which I welded. This was a tedious process since the ferrule is made of thin sheet metal. I decided to customize it by giving it a hammered look with my Dremel and a carving bit. Finally, I went over the ferrule with a bluing solution which gives it a nice black look and also acts as rust protection.
The screwdriver shank was sanded to P400 which gives it a nice brushed look. The screwdriver tip was reshaped with the belt sander. I didn't think that this screwdriver was going to turn into such a big project since it looked so simple. But the restoration process involved a lot of elements and also welding. It allowed me to practice my welding skills, I've only welded a few times before.

Something to consider...
When a metal part is unusable and a replacement needs to be manufactured.
The old metal part could be melted for the raw material.
