If Lane, Mclagan, Jones, Wood and Stewart had not gone their separate ways, they had a stellar group on their hands. They had everything, group, guitar and frontman to lead or compete for the leadership of an era. Outstanding performance here

That is as good a description of this show and The Faces as I've ever read. And here I thought I was the only one who saw this as an absolute tutorial on what Rock -n-Roll was. Other than a few bands nowadays, and I mean a FEW-who else carries the torch anymore?

Ron Wood was so good with the Faces. Clearly he's been an integral part of the Stones for more than 40 years but his work with the Faces is what defines him as a guitarist.
Wood's playing in the Stones is pals having a good time playing. The Faces is Wood edged and badass!! His tone thinned out in the stones ..... BUT WHAT A PAYDAY!!!

I think this was a TV performance...first take,no overdubs,just as they were feeling to play at that particular moment,each musician act so naturally,so easily,Ronnie Lane's unique sound, early Ronnie Wood already so talented,Ian McLagan as a real rock'n'roll piano player and Kenny Jones shows what he will be able to do so far....and the singer? Rod Stewart performing with the Faces was at his best.Top...
I love Ronnie Lane's bass playing. Ron Wood's guitar work with the Faces was killer. Kenney Jones is such a cool drummer. The whole band was perfect. I really wish they could have done more. They made the world a better place.

Let's not forget Rod's version of "Love In Vain"...Dear GOD! I saw them live in MPLS back in 1975., The whole arena came unglued! The STONES had their eyes on Ronnie Wood for quite some time.
Don't Forget Ian McLagan and his unsurpassed work on the Keyboards. Everyone of the Faces were always on the top thier game. Was a shames what happened to Ronnie Lane, one of the best writers of songs there ever has been.
I had the pleasure of seeing this band live twice in the early 70's. Rod Stewart and the Faces will always be at the top of the list for me of the best bands to witness live. Fantastic!
I love that band so much. It’ s an incredible mixture of cool and Power with a ‘je ne sais quoi’ of melancholy. They systematically touch me right into my soul.
"Maybe I'm amazed" is the hell of a song. Musicianship at its best. And as vocalist you really need pipes, soul and timing to do this diamond justice. Rod did it easily and his bandmates were superb. Raw, rough, loud, soulful - and come on - "Stay with me" is still one of the best opening riffs in the history of rock'n roll.
My first concert at Cobo Hall.The faces opened up for Johnny Winters. What a Great time. I have been a fan of Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood(in the Stones) & Johnny Winters ever since. I just saw Rod Stewart 7/2022 He is still Great. I have seen him live in concert so many times I lost count.What a Living LEGEND ❤️💛🌹
Ronnie lane was a great bass player excellent at playing it was watching and listening to him with the earlier faces and Rod the Mod that got me into playing the bass I loved listening to that thumping pumping bass can’t beat it 💯👍
I saw them about this time- a nods as god as a wink to a blind horse came out . rod had already released his solo album- we all were playing every picture tells a story already The stones had just came out with brown sugar and led zeps 4th monster album just came out too.. a true rock and roll renaissance
A LOT of great albums came out around 1971-1972 (besides what you mentioned): Deep Purple's In Rock and Machine Head, Badfinger's Straight Up, and many others.
Rod and the boys were just a great rock band who were also brilliant at the blues. If there has been a better live band I have yet to hear them. Pity they broke up so soon. But we can still see them on you tube etc. Thank God for electronics.
I agree with you 100% until the last sentence. Yes, I know we can all watch our favorite bands and tutorials, etc., but I argue the world was a better place before computers became popular, and especially before the Internet. I was content with my records and tapes and renting DVD's !

The Ampeg amplifiers did a lot to give Ron Wood his unique, crunchy midrange distorted tone. He detailed the amp settings in his 1975 Guitar Player magazine interview, even though the Faces had just broken up.
These guys were so good here. Maybe I'm Amazed is absolutely epic. Everything just hanging in balance nicely. Rod is working with the band as a member, not shaking his disco booty and asking for all the attention. Too bad it didn't last.
How they managed to play with so much drink inside them is anybodies guess - but they did, and were brilliant. One of the great live bands of the 70's.
And these guys were also part of the groundbreaking Jeff Beck Group. With Rod's iconic vocals and Ron on fantastic bass guitar, melding perfectly with Jeff's virtuosic guitar playing. Not unlike Ronnie Lanes, active, melodic bass playing. Such incredible musicians. Can't love them anymore then I do!
The keyboards add hugely to the sound, and the faces wouldn't be the same without them. 'Baby I'm Amazed' (LOL) more RR groups didn't incorporate them too.
OH YOU LUCKY PERSON! I would have been sitting in the middle of my bedroom floor, headphones on, listening to every Faces and Rod Album I had...ONLY DREAMING OF SEEING THEM LIVE! I'm envious! Thank god for TH-cam!
Lane and Stewarts harmonies are unique and perfect. These mods (well dressed punk rockers) could rock! They were so much more than RS's back up band. Woods, Lane, Jones and Mclagen are a super goup all by themselves. The band was a force of nature with an attitude. In the beginning Rod was just one of the lads in the band until his ego took over (lead singer syndrone).
There _was_ an ego factor with Rod, not helped by "advisors" (a.k.a. hangers-on) whispering in his ear that he could do better without them. Worse, he fell in lurrv - disaster!
My fave band of all time. This looks like it was filmed after Long Player and before Nods. Glyn Johns hadn't worked his magic on Miss Judy's Farm (obvs inspired by Dylan's Maggie's Farm) and Stay With Me yet but these renditions were really good for seeing where the songs came from. Loved Three Button Handmedown. It really rocks. The story behind Maybe I'm Amazed was they'd rushed out to buy the Macca original whilst on tour in the States and loved it so much, they'd worked up their own version in a couple of days. Losing You was always a Faces live number and Rod nicked it for Every Picture which Ronnie Lane was understandably miffed about. Rod claimed that the Faces didn't want to record it but Ronnie would differ. This is a really great piece of musical history. Lovely.
What a great band. Every time they played Detroit I was there. We always thought that if you couldn't see the Stones, who were on a every three year tour schedule, well go see the Faces. Never a disappointment.
Rod said on tour this year, Detroit was the Faces favorite city to play, they'd invite the audience back to their hotel rooms and never a thing went missing, "TRUE STORY" Rod said. He's given a shout out to Detroit so many times...wish I'd have been there

There are moments in Maybe I'm Amazed that are truly on a level of divine greatness. It's a photo finish for the greatest rock n roll band of the early Seventies, these blokes or the Stones.

I"m amazed Rod and Ronnie are still around performing after these last 50 years or so of being in Rock and Roll life...I guess we are all better of for it.

One of the best R&R bands ever and Rod was a great blues and soul voice before he decided to be sexy and went to USA.
Ronnie Lane was such a musician.
