This is literally incredible. A lot of outstanding music came out of the 60s and 70s, but this might just be the pinnacle of live performances. A band simply cannot play better than this; so tight. And, of course, Rod's sensational gravely voice. At the top of his game here -- pure power and presence.10/10.
I cannot describe how happy these clips make me. This was the band that decided me on playing Guitar for the rest of my life, and I can't thank them enough for bringin' the party. I love the fact that you never knew what they were going to play! Always a surprise, and their version of a night of music meant you were gonna' walk away with a great memory and maybe a little hungover...CHEERS!!
Fantastic performance... The camera work, sound, and editing here is also remarkable, especially given this is a remote session at the Marquee Club with a relatively small stage. Thank you to the team at WDR Rockpalast.
Man I wish I was 17 in the 70s you spent the best years of your life in the best decades 60s70s80s. Everything started to turn to sht in the decade I was born (the 90s).
@@davidgalea6113 Hey I lived through those years seen my first concert in 1966 when I was 10 in Thunder Bay Ontario of all places. it was the Animals. I lived close to Detroit later and went there almost every weekend to see bands. There is still lots of good bands out there today I find but a little out of my price range. Hard to justify paying $300 when I paid $2.50 to see Hendrix lol
The ticket prices in the 70s were silly cheap. £2-£3-£4-£5 to see a top act was common. I used to catch 2 or 3 gigs a week for many years. Fortunately I lived in Brighton which meant everyone came through at some point. I've seen so many bands I lost track years ago , but I missed out on the early Stones, Beatles, Floyd, Kinks, Animals simply because there was so much choice and demand for Tix. Back then bands made money from album sales, and tours were more about building up a fan base. Bands were touring living in their vans not 5 star luxury hotels...that came much later! My biggest disappointment was not seeing Jeff Beck on his last tour. Tickets were available at the Hard Rock Hotel near Sacramento (where I live) and they were a measly $45. Downside was the room at the hotel for the night was $350. Total deal breaker for me. 3 months later my favourite musician of all time dies on us. Gutted beyond belief. I feel sorry for the subsequent generations who have had to endure ridiculous ticket prices for EVERY band these days. The royalties that bands receive from Spotify etc could be significantly higher to help make seat prices more affordable, but ain't gonna happen. The music business is its own worst enemy.
Wish they’d stayed together longer, love their boogie down rock “n” roll with Rods lead - gravely vocal. @14:50 that’s some HEAVY stuff with that bass line!! Whew!! 🎉
and robert plant said rod couldnt sing ,i think it was the other way around , superb vocals and what a band , we wont see the likes of the faces again , in a few years nobody will be able to play any instrument at all .....cheers tony cee
That opening vocal is just stunning. So natural and soulful. They were so bloody good and had a great time too. Lucky enough to see them 3 times in my yoof!
No matter how loud or rough, I can always follow the melody of the MUSIC being PLAYED. To me the whole setting is a Rock and Roll poem. Phenomenal. Thinking of 'Stone the Crows' also. Vielen Dank 🌹:)
They remind me of the Who sometimes the bass and drums are jammin'. Ronnie and Rod are right there with them. That was cool when all 5 of them were singing, the two Ronnie's on one mic and Rod went to the drummers mic and then the keyboard player. These guys were so connected in the same spirit and joy of music 🎶 Happening. 🎉 🕉
Utterly stunning performance. So togerher that wrong noted are right. Definition of a band. Voice and every instrument where it should be when it should be. Thank you to everyone involved. It's been worth it.
Thanks for posting this, the album "First Step" was my first step into the Faces called Small Faces on that album, a year prior I bought The Rod Stewart Album and was hooked on this group I never had the pleasure of seeing them live.
Toll, wie sie mit Maccas „Maybe I’m amazed“ einen damals sehr aktuellen Song interpretiert haben. Man hat das Gefühl, sie spielen ihn schon seit Jahren.
Sorry, if you think that Joe B. is keeping this music alive, I really don't understand what you try to say. The Small Faces and later for a too short time the Faces were the essence of Rock, Joe B. for me is a boring guitarist, technically fantastic but there is no soul in his music and playing. Or maybe I can't hear it.
Rod the Mod ! this absolutely kicks ass waaaaaaaaaay better than the other solo/groups that 3 went to IMO it's a bummer that Ronnie Wood has played 2nd fiddle to Keith Richards
@@ianbauer4703 IMO Steve Marriott was the best front man in Rock history. So there is that... Did you ever hear Keith Richards tell the story about when the Stones auditioned Marriott for Mick Taylor's slot?

One of the all time great rock groups. So young and full of energy. FACES forever.
Rest In Peace Ronnie L & Ian M
Thank You

Yes, amazing band and so effortlessly packed with talent and soul. And Rod Stewart's voice is recognizable within seconds, no matter what he does! :)

Great to see young Rod just before I was born, especially in HD. It's a great piece of treasured music history....
They never fail to impress, yet sometimes they seem to effortlessly sail into the stratosphere. Wonderful. Thank you for the upload.
Rod & Ronnie singing together , priceless !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting this beautiful surprise. Beautiful rough sound too!

Yeah, that was beautiful ! :0)
Rods voice is fantastic, Shows how good Ronnie is, what a great time to watch again!, thanks for the upload
Truth both literally and the LP
Definitely Ronnie & Rod, were a great pair, I love them 😍 & their Rooster haircuts

Hard to explain how loose they were and how tight they were - just brilliant
My fave live band bar none. At their peak the best rock band in the world. Loved those heady days! I was 17 in 1970..❤

Saw the faces a few times back in the early 70's. Knockout live act....still lovin the tunes. What a band ...brilliant.
How odd to thank Steve Marriott for offering us the chance to set The Faces up!!! What a gift.
Not odd , the faces and humble pie came from the small faces
not odd at all, Steve was the alpha and the omega of rock
The Face's were a PARTY BAND , when they really got loose & down + dirty , the voice of Rod was icing on the cake !!!

Could be because the Faces drummer later took the place of Keith Moon and played with The Who for a long time.

Joe Bonamassa is what? No one can keep the spirit and creativity of this time alive. You must have been part of it, you must have lived it.
Great to see their youth, camaraderie, melding of British and American R&B music traditions and obvious sense of fun! Then The Music Biz took over...
