    You know after watching this video for the 3rd time (yes, I'm obsessed) I wanted to tell you that I have never liked mid-century modern and hated the 70's...until you Laura! I feel that's a testament to your decorating talent. I am now in love with Mid-Century AND even love some of the 70's stuff! You are very talented girl!

      Yeah, after being a teenager/young adult in the 70’s, I had a deep aversion to the colors and styles of home goods from the era. I’m still not in love with it, but with Laura’s decorating enthusiasm, I can at least tolerate it, and some of it I almost find attractive now! 😅

    Auntwestly is correct! The sterling silver fork is a baby fork. Grande Baroque (1941) is the pattern. Wallace is the manufacturer. I grew up eating holiday meals on this pattern. My family owned a jewelry store in Montana and sold a lot of sterling silver patterns. Laura, I love the how you share curiosity and learning about vintage art in multiple forms! I love the positivity and joy you radiate as you create and connect with people!

    I'm home caring for my adult son who has a very rare neurodegenerative disease, almost never get to leave the house. I am a die hard thrifter and used to sell mid-century too. I really love your videos and living vicariously through you. I'm so glad I stumbled onto your channel. I truly miss buying, selling, and traveling but like you, recognize this is what my life is supposed to be, at least for now.

      Sending you a virtual hug! Acceptance is so hard when we had a different idea of what our life would be like. I’m so sorry for the hardships you face ❤️ A caregiver is the most selfless role. This is not a similar situation, but I like to share this because nothing is ever as perfect or easy as it seems through a lens. My husband and I spent a decade devastated and desperately trying to conceive and start a family. When we finally accepted this fate, and decided to build a different life than we planned, it blossomed into a beautiful thing. I am honored to get the opportunity to take you thrifting on our adventures with us ❤️ Wishing you and your family a wonderful New Year!! ❤️😘

    Option 2. Love all your styling tips. Suggestion for the curtain tie backs: use them to display fabric over your staging table, Triangle style. One high in the middle and one on each side. Drape fabric over and easy to swap out.
    I use an antique doorknob to hang my purse on. Good feed back so made a couple as gifts.

    Option 2 for the wooden candle holders. You could use some of the medallion things for hanging a picture from. Would add extra interest, especially on your lion gallery wall.

  • @priscillaridgway268
    @priscillaridgway268 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Good haul! The box of "knobs" are Victorian curtain tie backs. They were screwed onto the wall or window trim and in the daytime you would push the heavy brocade or velvet curtain behind them, and leave shear or lace curtains hanging inside. They are sold by the pair. Using them as display for bags is possible but some are relatively weak. You could also use them to hang a painting with a long chain or ribbon in a gallery wall, if they can structurally support the weight of the object.

    Another Ga. girl ! When I was a reseller I never bought something that I wouldn't use in my own house . Then if it doesn't sell you can use it . I tried so hard to sell this new copy of an old box for letters or candles. etc. It just would not sell . I became a diabetic and all my supplies fit perfectly inside . You never know !.

    Laura, I really look forward to your videos and this one did not disappoint! I believe the church depicted in that ornate frame is the Maria Gern pilgrimage Church in Berchtesgaden, Bavaria, Germany. It’s called a pilgrimage church because either a miracle occurred there, or possibly it has relics, or saints are buried there. I don’t know the reason in this case.

    You have some lovely examples of Sashiko! From Wikipedia: Sashiko (刺し子, lit. 'little stabs') is a type of traditional Japanese embroidery or stitching used for the decorative and/or functional reinforcement of cloth and clothing. Owing to the relatively cheap nature of white cotton thread and the abundant nature of cheap, indigo-dyed blue cloth in historical Japan, sashiko has a distinctive appearance of white-on-blue embroidery, though some decorative pieces may also use red thread.[1][2]

    I think I'm the only one on here that likes option #1 the best, but that's my fav! Great picking Laura! I was a young adult in the 1970s when I got my first place all my own...a little 1930s cottage in Altadena, CA. I had many of the things back then that you collect now, but I didn't appreciate them until I saw how you cherish and style them. Wish I'd kept some of those things! My style is 1950s kitsch but I sure appreciate what you do too!

    And I just left Vegas that Sat. evening, I am so bummed I missed you by a hair! 😤 Anyhow, you scored some great finds! I am now a fan of certain Japanese antiques and shibori, Japanese indigo dyed fabrics, are on my list. I am Japanese by the way, and in 2019 my boyfriend and I got a chance to antique shop in Tokyo at a fair next to a shrine. We bought an old Japanese cypress (hinoki) or sandalwood folding fan as a gift for his mother. They are delicate and intricately carved, but smell great when you fan yourself with them. Of course most, nowadays, would most likely be used for display only. You might want to consider finding one of those as a souvenir piece to add to your collection or perhaps an antique kokeshi doll. There are a lot of cat themed antiques, too, as Japanese love their cats! You can give praise to them at the Gotokuji temple 🐈🐱🥰. I’m excited for you to go to Japan 🇯🇵!

    I think the little fork came from a set for High Tea ( 4:00 pm London England) desserts. And had matching spoon and knife.

    Laura ,recently I saved a few pics from Pinterest on coat racks , I’ve been wanting to make one for my stairwell, any way there were so many repurposed ideas, one was an old vintage carpenters level with old door knobs as hangers, one was an old wooden ladder with old door knobs , I even thought of looking for an old vintage yard stick, or something like that to repurpose as my hanging rack, you could maybe do something like that for your purse rack with those old beautiful knobs you found ❤

    Yes, you need to go to Manzanita at the end of the week! That is a sweet little thrift store where you found the silver......

    Floral drapery tie backs to hang purses. Perhaps use the drapery tie backs to tie back display curtains, drapes or fabrics
