SIR DAVID LEAN, the Best Director Ever. Lawrence of Arabia is the greatest film ever made. Every detail is perfect: the sets, the plot, the cast, the music. I wish I could see this master piece on the silver screen. There will never be epics like this one, Doctor Zhivago and Bridge on the River kwai. Thank you soy much for your legacy SIR.
Thank you for this post. David Lean was a great director, one of the finest ever. And it is great to see the great and only, the wonderful Joan Crawford.
SIR DAVID LEAN. The Greatest Director ever. Lawrence of Arabia is the most amazing movie I've ever seen. Everything is perfect: the plot, the locations, the music, the cast. I wish I could see it on the big screen. I also love Doctor Zhivado and Bridge on the River Kwai. There will never be epics like this.
Great film. watched the recreation of the scene on Feud. reading these comments. wow. I remember seeing this as a child, mesmerizing. and again when a restored version was released in the eighties.
Arguably the greatest movie ever made in English. And contemplating the great burst of hot air we see nowadays at Oscar ceremony, it is refreshing to see a nice heartfelt short thank you from the director of one of the longest movies ever made. Joan Crawford has a lot of style and presence. When Sophia Loren presented the award to Lean back in 1958, she just sort of stood there and let him walk off alone. Joan did not let him get away from her. They walked off together.
A great star Joan Crawford awarding the Oscar justly to David Lean for the masterpiece Lawrence of Arabia. RIP David Lean, Maurice Jarre, Alec Guinness, Sam Spiegel and Mike Frankovich ( Columbia) for the masterwork that is Lawrence
Note how much emphasis and pronunciation JC puts on announcing each name and the respect she accords the occasion (not to mention the moderately suspenseful way she regards reading the winner's name) versus the sloppy, goofy schlubs that get up there and stumble their way through it now.
I love all of David Lea n films, but my number 1 all time favourite is " Lawrence of Arabia " and the second is " Great Expectations ".n He only directed sixteen films but he was picky and as a perfectionist, a genius.
One of the nominees that Joan Crawford lists is Frank Perry, for the film “David & Lisa”. You know what he would go on to direct 19 years later? *Mommie Dearest* .
This was a much longer clip and it featured Frank Sinatra introducing Joan Crawford who was greeted to thunderous applause followed by her announcing the nominees/winner.
Interesting tidbit is that Joan was married to Fairbanks Jr who spent a lot of the '30s in the UK. Twice he would ask someone after having just left a party "who the diminutive man all by himself was?" It was T.E. Lawrence both times and somehow Douglas Fairbanks Jr missed out on meeting him twice. Something he always regretted. He said Lawrence had the look of a fish out of water and that he clearly was thinking about being somewhere else.
Crawford looked great and this was only minutes before Bette Davis lost the Baby Jane Oscar to Anne Bancroft and Crawford would accept on behalf of Bancroft!
Peter O'Toole was simply fabulous in Lawrence of Arabia. I even think he should have won the Oscar for the best actor that year. it's simply it's his first Oscar nomination and his rival was Gregory Peck. But Gregory's acting in To Kill the Mocking Bird wasn't his best in his acting history.

@jemimakahn He wasn't! Peter O'Toole was great as Lawrence but Gregory Peck was also amazing as Atticus Finch! For me it should have been a tie that year! But O'Toole should have won games down for The Lion in Winter!
Mulligan should have won. all the other four nominees are much better pictures and has way better directing efforts for the camera than Lawrence of arabia, imo! ;(
I dont get that. She was less "fake" in later years than the studio system years with pencil eyebrows. She was always a gorgeous woman. She made nails fashionable, shoulder pads fashionable (somehow making a comeback), open toe shoes fashionable, etc, etc. People now pride themselves on having big eyebrows but somehow that doesn't apply to Joan, 40-50 years ago. She set more trends than anyone I can think of. It's crazy that people dont attribute them to her. I understand that before Mildred Pierce, and now Feud, her absolute best work was way back in the '30s. But how someone so instrumental to not only the movie industry but women's fashion, and even being a screen hero to many women for over 20 years, is kind of an afterthought, it's very sad.
Lawrence of Arabia is one of the best Pictures ever made, thanks to David Lean for this legacy you've gave us.
I watched this movie for the first time in 2020 during quarantine and overwhelmed by its magnificence
you must must must see it on a full-screen theater, ideally in 70mm
RIP Sir David Lean (March 25, 1908 - April 16, 1991), aged 83
You will always be remembered as a legend.

And a fine limey too!
And to see her sober as well!
I agree. What a true artistic performance by the genius that is O'Toole!
this is the best oscar speech I've ever heard
Please tell me you are joking
There are better ones. Alfred Hitchcock‘s is even shorter.
Short and sweet :)
It's not just about being short, but the context used to express emotions.
Lawrence of Arabia has great directing.
it has BAD directing :D
If you don't like it, go comment somewhere else.
Lawrence of Arabia has great everything.
The BEST one!
SIR DAVID LEAN. The Greatest Director ever.

I could see the makeup on Alec Guinness,. this ruined the film as a masterpiece for me.
I wonder how many times Jessica Lange watched this?
She didn't learn a damn thing!

To make such movie one requires passion nd love
I love the length of the speech.
Feud is made so accurate
Feud is a complete lie. Give me a break.

Oscars, please please upload David Lean winning for "Bridge on the River Kwai" when you have time.
And aside from best director, he also got shortest speech award.
one of the greatest movies of all time and an eye opener of the betrayal of the west against the arabs.

Crawford is great in the 64 b flick Stait-Jacket!
Feud Bette and Joan

which year was it?
greets
Class Act.
For directing such a long movie, h esurely gave a very brief acceptance speech. Would that today's awardees did the same!
Do not watch Lawrence of arabia in your phone or computer because that is an insult to the film as it is meant for the big screen!
Doctor Zhivago... A Brief Encounter... and Da Bridge on Da River Kwai! A LEAN NIGHT!!!!!!!!
His face reminds me slightly of Claude Rains.
Short and slightly sour from a man that gave the world such epic films.....interesting.
我周围的影迷朋友竟无一人知晓《阿拉伯的劳伦斯》这部旷世之作😭
@panapaok I mean *hands down!
Lawrence, Lawrence of what, of Arabia!?
@jemimakahn He wasn't! Peter O'Toole was great as Lawrence but Gregory Peck was also amazing as Atticus Finch! For me it should have been a tie that year! But O'Toole should have won games down for The Lion in Winter!
NO MORE WIRE HANGERS!
Well, Peter O'Toole wasn't so bad either ;)
Short and slightly sour from David Lean. Not what I expected from a man who gave the world such wonderful epics.... interesting?
Mulligan should have won. all the other four nominees are much better pictures and has way better directing efforts for the camera than Lawrence of arabia, imo! ;(
Your kidding right?
Crawford looks so fake. And she WAS a beauty. W excellent diction.

She had bushier eyebrows than Ernest Borgnine.
This win is probably one of the top 5 or so worst decision in the catagory ever;(
Steven Speilberg ranks this film greatly and was what made him become a film director
Joan Crawford looks terrible there.
She is stunning darling ..a true Hollywood classic beauty ❤
To kill a mockingbird should have won. ......personally, I think Lawrence of Arabia was stupid
You mean BORING, i.e. Lawrence of Arabia.... THE MIRACLE WORKER AND TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD WERE FARMORE INTERESTING.
"stupid". Great criticism.
No class fella, music, score, cinematograhy et al... were and still is brilliant, I think the one that is stupid is YOU FELLA....
