      In the commentary of making of Jurassic Park, Spielberg said that he had agreed to direct Schindler's List only if he's allowed to wrap up Jurassic Park first, because he didn't think he would be able to resume work soon after directing Schindler's List.

    • @Marguerite21
      @Marguerite21 10 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      That's a good point and you're right. It was hard for Steven Spielberg to make the movie. Also, there's another director named Roman Polanski who made the movie called The Pianist. Polanski is half Jewish. But I believe it was very hard for him too because Roman Polanski is in fact a Holocaust survivor. I don't know how he had the courage to direct a movie based on a compelling true story. But he did. I admire both Spielberg and Polanski for making those important films.

      +IXM360 Not really. Saving Private Ryan was an heroic story about people fighting back against the enemy and dying for what they believed in. Schindler's List is more of a sadder story about helpless people who are being murdered and who are unable to defend themselves -- thus, making it way more a matter of "blood money".
      Besides, Spielberg is a huge contributor to the WWII D-Day museum in New Orleans, so it's not like he just profits off the deaths of everybody in the war.

      Richard Attenborough won Best Director for Gandhi over Spielberg & E.T., but long claimed that the Oscar should have gone to Steven then & even said as much about the Academy basically labeling him a "popular" filmmaker & not worth awarding ("nominating, maybe...but let us not get carried away").
      Spielberg's casting of Attenborough as John Hammond in Jurassic Park is often considered to be his way of showing thanks to Attenborough for having his back.
