Just did it today. Thanks for the video. One thing that will help anyone is to get a ratcheting 8mm wrench. It made my job super easy. Again thanks for the video.
O'Reilly's sold me the O-ring, not the gasket :-( So long ago I wonder if they'll take it back? The thermostat they gave me for that engine is #4139 but seems okay, I'll update if there's a problem. FYI: 5/16" works as well as 8mm. You'll be swinging wrenches past the battery. Be sure the red rubber cover is on securely, ask me how I know. The wife's friend recently jumped the car when the wife left the lights on (why not just leave on auto?) and aparently she left the red cover off to the side. My ratchet wrench hooked up with the positive terminal :-( Thanks for the video!
You mentioned replacing any coolant that leaks out, but you didn't mention burping the system, do you have to burp the 3.0? I've worked on some coolant systems that need it and some that don't assume you don't but figured i would ask.
Ive burped all my vehicles in the past with the funnel that goes on the pressurized coolant cap, the names escape me, but the 3.0 doesn't have one. I didnt know an alternative, couldn't find anything online. I just filled it as normal and then again a day later. It seemed fine .-.
I have a situation here. I’ve replaced the thermostat without checking if it’s working properly; it’s not OEM, i believe its motorcraft or something and its still acting like before, basically this winter when I remote start the car, it doesn’t matter how long I keep it idling, it won’t get to normal temperature unless its driving. I installed the new thermostat with the jiggle valve up, Is there something I’m missing here (???), like I said, still not enough heat at idle. Am I suppose to change jiggle position, or maybe vacuum refill it ?
sounds like a faulty temp valve on the replacement thermostat, it probably has a higher temp tolerance and thats why it only opens under load and not idle. one thing to try would be to drill a small pilot hole to force it open or just replace it.
I think my thermo is bad bc it’s leaking around it and it gets hold then normal temp and heater don’t work or I could have a bad water pump gonna fix both just incase
Well the second you disconnect that hose line it will drain to some extent. If you have never done a fluid flush then I would recommend one, but if your fluid is clean then you should be fine to just add back what was lost.

Is this process similar with the 2.5? I have a 2012 2.5 and can't find any videos on it.
Wondering if you by any chance know where the coolant temperature sensor is located? No videos or information anywhere?

It is recommended to burp any cooling system, i just let it get hot with the lid off and a funnel just to make sure the levels are correct

Is true this engine has 2 thermostat or only one??
Great video will be changing mine tmr

Thank you man! Great video
No problem, glad it could help.
Thankyou
Thank you sir!
I have a 2012 Fusion and that’s not where my thermostat is. It’s on the left side of the engine.
You probably have the smaller engine then, this is the 3.0, they had 4 different engines for this body
Hello i open my thermostat and it was just the top of it in there where could the rest have gone @sliteovmind7930
how did you realize that thermostat should be replaced?
I think my thermo is bad bc it’s leaking around it and it gets hold then normal temp and heater don’t work or I could have a bad water pump gonna fix both just incase
Did you have to drain all the coolant from the system before attempting to replace the thermostat?
no, its at a high point in the system but you will want to check fluid levels to be sure and get any air out as well.
Is the process the same for the 2011?
If it's the same engine then I would assume so.
@@sliteovmind7930 awesome, thanks! Saving me 600 in labor costs...
@@ahhhhhhhhhbees8840 no problem glad I could be of service
What symptoms would require this change? Currently dash indicator says hot & engine runs rough.
@@GODLEN over heating mostly, or corrosion at the joint
do you have to drain the coolant before installing new thermostat

How much fluid did you lose once you popped it lose? I don't really want to do a full flush
OEM parts only. Not cheap
lie. not 2011
