This is one of the prettiest pokie in the genus, these old world arboreal spiders also known as parachute spiders make lovely additions to any collection, treated with respect they are calm and pretty docile.

If there is anyone to deserve the title of "spider whisperer" it is Dave. I really enjoy his gentle handling of his spiders which in almost every case are rewarding him with their good behaviour. Well done. And a big salute to the camera woman. She's doing an incredible good job.

    • @blackpeter70

Yes, I'm a bit of a spider whisperer, too. As soon as I see a spider, I lose my voice from sheer terror.

@@blackpeter70 Do You know that "arachnophobia" can be cured? My wife was also terrified of this fascinating creatures, but after 16 years of "training" with my help, she kind of lost her fear and transformed it into respect. Although she would never touch a spider, she made big progress and does not freeze or scream if she encounter a spider like she did before I "trained" her 😆

@@tagesvaterpatrick8780 I have fallen in love with watching, “WATCHING” theses glorious creatures on this and a few other channels but I still am crazy afraid of them in real life. I bow 🙇‍♀️ to your wife but I’m just not there yet. My big thing is admiring the expertise in which Dave and others make them less threatening to me. I used to never be able to watch them on TV Internet etc. but I can at least do that now.

@@vickiegray690 It's just a matter of time, believe me! The more You learn about the spiders, the less You will fear them. It's only natural to be afraid of something You don't understand. Spiders are cunning, cautious and sometimes extremely fast, so they often do give us a "jump scare" just because we didn't noticed them at first. But if You are ready to look out for them, I mean searching for the encounter, You will be much less intimidated by the spider... hang on, it's worth it! 😁

I'm fairly new inte the world of tarantulas. Studied quite a bit, but had to overcome the obstacle of having a severely arachnofobic daughter. So earlier this year I went into full obstacle-mode and started to really educate my daughter. This channel and the legendary quote "be calm, be gentle and love your spiders" became quite the mantra, albeit in Swedish :D . We now have a juvenile and two slings together. She is a lovely girl. I just rehoused a very bolty little OW sling, a C. darlingi. I was very apprehensive about this one, but I moved very, very slowly throughout the entire process, and it ended up being one of the easiest rehousings I have ever done. I have learned so much from you, and I recommend your videos to other keepers frequently.

Out of all the spider keeping/rehousing vids I've watched you have to be the one who understands the most about how the tarantulas actually _feel._ . If I were picked up, shaken around, and then told to go somewhere I can't even see and don't know what it feels like or if there's predators, I'd be annoyed to say the least lol. Love that you're so gentle with the bark and the paintbrush especially.
I was terrified of spiders until like a week ago and now I see that they're just chillin, doing their own thing and just would like a cricket now and again 😂

I’ve come back into the hobby after 20 years, and I got 2 pokies straightaway. Currently expecting my 3rd to arrive this week. I’ve rehoused them without any problems. When I do maintenance they hunker down in their cork tubes till I’ve finished. I always have catch cups etc on hand, just in case. I’m a pensioner and in my opinion if you take your time then you’ll be fine with a pokie. If one seems a bit ‘spooked’ then leave whatever you’re trying to do with it, until it’s calmed down.

I'm preparing to move a 1.5" Salem O from a 2"x2"x3" enclosure into a 3"x3"x9" .... I hope this one grows up as beautiful as her.
    She is stunning.
