Can’t tell u how valuable your videos have been for me. Started DJ’ing again at the ripe old age of 39. Almost a 20 year gap from the teen ages. Mid life crisis went out of control and now I’m hooked. Never too old to pick up new hobby and run with it. Thanks for making yourself so accessible to your fans and sharing your life and incredible musical skills. Keep them coming because U are impacting lives and making dj’s out of ordinary people.

If you're looking for just the tips of the video
    1. Mixing acapellas live 3:15
    2. Setting hot cues 6:05
    3. Climax Mixing 8:00
    4. Using Loops 9:15
    5. Drop Mixing 11:40
    6. Various BPM 14:20

Nice, one, I love doing this too! Otherwise I get pretty bored quick and also gives you more options to create mashups if a dj before you already played that one hit acapella :)

Im actually really proud to say this. I watched these vlogs since I first learned how to DJ. And now I love being creative and taking risks! I sort of thought this was a standard amongst professional DJs... I was shocked to notice that some of my peers and DJ friends dont take risks, or mash up tracks, or play with EQ/FX the way some others do

I totally agree mixed in key is only just a guide it’s all about matching bpms. I bought a sample pack and mixed 4 or 5 together in Ableton session view I thought this sounds amazing but to my horror all the keys were different but because Ableton matched the bpms to 122 it sounded great.

I still have maps and maps of CD's all burned in WAV and sorted on Genre and Key.. Back in the day we didn't had all those nice features and had to spend ages to be able to mix in key.. I even wrote the bpm and key on the vinyls I had .. Best setup was two turntables (closest to the mixer) and 2 CDJ's for the best mashups of old obscure and new tracks.. The memories man..

Ohh yeah! Very genius answer Luke 2 that Deejay, sometimes is not just about the technical knowledge, is about energy and keeping ur eyes to the crowd, i seen ur live videos and really like the way u mix, u know to play the popular and go back to classics and also experiment with the crowd, thats the way we do it where i come from! i never played for a big crowd, i used to play in small nightclub in the hotel i use to work in my country, it must be a great feeling!? Anyways i wanna say thaks for all the tips and effort u put in youtube, it really inspired me fir get 2 a hight level in the production field! I been 5 years doing it but where i come from the internet it wasn't an option for the ppl, and it was hard for me to get the tools for production now been 1 year in canada, and i just made my project with a awsome friend of mine dj also! This is who we are Dreambigger! Hopefully someday we get to your level and we can meet u! Soon in couple days i will be a father to, also dedicate, well i will do my best) deejay i am already, produccer getting there, not Kong fu athlete, just like to play futbool or (soccer in america) Thank You very much 4 everything 🙏

My favorite mashup technique is the loop the first section of a drop and have a break vocal of a track in key come in on second round, then mixing out during the build up of the vocal track.

In order to know exactly how to coordinate drops so you can drop mix, my tip is to go right on the drop, use the beat jump tool to go exactly 32 beats back and set a cue point there so whenever I see that cue point coming up I know that I am exactly 32 beats away frm the drop so then I can launch the same hot cue in another song and have them coordinated.

respect to you bro this has helped me a lot with my confidence in djing. ive done all this stuff before like utilizing the drop like you said as im watching the waveforms and listening to the track and ive always fought it doesn't sound that good and I can do better but then that's the true art of real djing at a fast style like you do today and now you've explained even you do it I feel a lot better in myself. At the end of the day its not about the tiny mistakes and mis judges that you yourself as a dj will notice but how the crowd reacts and how they go about it which is all that matters aslong as your having fun also! :)

  • @MW-df2fm
    @MW-df2fm 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Love LaidbackLuke for his attitude not spending to much about mixing in key, his energy package "system" is way more pushing!
Nowadays it is really hard to not mix in key because you earn so many more tracks and u dont know all of them by head - i think this is the reason why many djs/producers mix in key and do not try that much anymore.
Myself i have found more then the T(xA/xB/x+1A/x-1A) rule for key mixing, mine is always Key xA - xB/xA/x-1A/x+1A/x+2A/x+4A/x+7A - those are all harmonic and within this range of tracks i find more tracks wich i could use. Additionally if i find fitting parts in my favorite songs, instrumental parts/ climax/ bass/ snare/ kick/accapellas - i can mix these aswell even if the key is disharmonic.
