I was never too fond of you luke, but giving back to the community and showing us dj's eager to learn, while also showing us your more than just a big name, you've gained some mad respect..
Yeah! I never voted for the DJ Mag myself but wouldn't it be kick ass if we all vote for Luke? We have 160.000 subscribers over here :-D I know how LL thinks about the DJ Mag and I share his vision...but I don't know...He just deserves the attention and it would be fun to have him rank first. I'm going to vote right now .-)
Luke, thank you so much. Doing all these videos with your busy schedule and giving us back so much. Can't describe how much I've learned from you. Mad respect!
Honestly this video is gold. Straigth to the point, no bs or ad sponsorship. The techniques are well demonstrate without overexplanation. Good job! Im starting to Dj Its been one week now and in 2 weeks I got my first event because my girlfirend sister prom didnt have no budget for a Dj. So I proposed myself to do the job. The fact that you mention to not go to a style to another to fast is a really good tip, I would have made the mistake for sure. My set is gonna be made in consequence. Thank you!
Hey Luke, Thank you very much for taking the time to do all of this, is nothing but helpful and inspiring for beginners Dj's like me. grateful to have one of the best Dj's That lives take time out of his busy schedule to teach and motivate the up comings to keep it real. THANK YOU.
Thank you so much Laidback Luck. Always trying to better the experience for those that listen to what I play! Even more important is the advice at the end. You need to have a consistent story to tell, do not keep changing the genre every song. It would be like starting to read a Comic Book, then the next page is a novel, followed by a Newspaper article. Hard to follow and flow! Great job as always sir!
I love coming home from a hard week of work to watch your videos Luke! Real inspiration! Keep up the good work! Can't wait to see you at tomorrowland on my 21st Birthday!
Thank you for validating something I've said back when I only knew how to spin on Traktor before I learned on CDJs. I've always argued that there is nothing wrong with using Sync and in situations like these, like if you want to do multi-genre sets and need to make big BPM jumps, it only makes sense to use Sync unless you're just going to drop the next track on the 1.
Hey, thanks Luke, that was really a great topic to cover as we beginners face these problems very much. I'm glad that we have a super technical and dedicated DJ/Producer like you.
Love LaidbackLuke. Love how I have been lucky enough to see him mix, live from up front. He knows how to mix the hell out of the tracks, live. Also love how he is willing enough to teach upcoming artists.
Ive been watching your videos for a long time,'m new to cdc but i learn so much from watching your videos. They are very helpful and informal.Thankyou keep it coming.
Good demonstration of why you should sync. It clearly provided you with the best transition. You'll get some respect for doing things the hard way but the end result is whats important. Let the haters hate.
YUU MONADI ML Ya you might be right but most of his Tutorials are helpfull! And some ideas for translations are Great. But i defently dont agree With the Key Thing.. he says that Mixed in Key is a must for a DJ! Look at luke, he dont use Mixed in Key at all and his Sets are absolute bangers!
I can't even begin to thank you. Your straight forward way of explaining improved my mixing by 1000%. It was so simple but for some reason I guess I didn't understand before. In less than 24 hours after seeing your videos for the first time my skill level reached levels I couldn't hit for years. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge. U da man
You've made a lot of key points there with sync button. I've always managed to echo out. I've been watching your videos. How do you find time between personal time, family and shows? Not to mention the time to edit videos....you make for us fans. Awesome bro.
I've learned so much with your tutorials Mr. Luke! Glad you always put out your knowledge to all of us! I also use a lot of ''transition tracks'' in my sets, songs that already change the tempo in the middle, it helps a lot, they're key songs imo! Thanks so much man! Love from Brazil
I've seen so many videos/read so many forums on this particular subject but this is by far the best and I feel like I am a better DJ just from having watched this I can't wait to go home and practice!
Hey Luke I just wanted to say thank you for all the tutorials and vlogs! I just started in the DJ/producer life and these have been incredibly helpful! Also I'm a big fan of your music and I've seen you live a couple of times around the world! Keep killin it man!
HI Luke, thanks a lot for this video, this was real useful, especially since I know I am guilty of switching back and forth between genres probably way too much, thanks again!!
you are my best tutorial by far i just started and had little help from friend(he only used software at home) and you sure can explain and give advice ty very much sir! subscribed
Thank you Luke this is great advice for someone like me who is trying to learn how to dj . I often like to switch from genre to genre and I hear it and it sounds like exactly what you were talking about
I think one very effective method from transitioning from a large bpm difference would be using the filter, like taking the filter knob to all the way to right while keeping the other track's filter on all the way to left and then taking slowly taking out the initial track's upfader and then bringing new track's filter to 90 degrees tip, you can straight go to the build up of new song by finishing the older one.
I only use sync for bpm transitions. I can loop a beat or 2 from the current song, i will beatmatch the incoming song, set to the current song bpm, once I match them. Then I hit sync just so I can use one tempo fader to bring both songs to the correct bpm of the incoming song. Its a cool trick the audience usually loves to use for adding energy.
Hi Luke, thanks for this useful vlog! I have a question for you... how do you organize your cue points? I'm pretty interested in what's behind the decision to set hot cues and memory cues in particular spots of a track for a live event like UMF or Tomorrowland. Thanks a lot from an Italian dedicated dad (and family guy too). Ciao!
First time seeing your videos Luke, thank you for making things so clear and easy to follow. I am learning to DJ as a hobby, I love to host and throw parties but want to take the music up a notch and your video's are really helping me.
Great video. Great tips. I hate it when people say that I haven't played the track they want but the truth is that I didn't want to ruin the flow of the night. Thanks for the videos helps me realize I'm doing the right thing by keeping the flow.
It's so awesome to be able to pick your brain like this! I'm always picking up something from your vids, even if there was something I thought I knew. L's up!
Hey Luke I was wondering, did you ever own turntables for djing and if so, which ones and do you still have them? Would love to see them in a future video!
Hey Luke! Thanks for this and everithing. For bedroom djs like me who lives in a country where there are no djing courses thats a major help for self learning. Thanks for sharing your knoweldge. Please keep up!
Great video Luke I used some of your tips in this video to enter the groove cruise contest also used 3 of your tracks from the label OTW thanks for this video
great advice Luke! really helped with some transitions I was having problems with and it made it smooth and simple! you need to come back to club Elan Savannah, GA Hope to see you in the near future!
Hey Luke, it would be really cool if you did a VLOG where you just dropped in to clubs to see other DJs and commented on the atmosphere and vibe of the DJ. Maybe difficult as you will probably be recognised... Disguise ideas anybody?
Great video again Luke;) What I noticed in this video was the gate you used. As a tip: It sounds very unnatural...maybe if your purpose was to avoid background noise you could as well use the noise plug in from waves;) Hope that helped!
Great stuff Laidback Luke! I'm not a DJ but I certainly know someone who keeps following your vlogs and who is a such big fan of yours! The kid you mentioned whom you got the idea of L L hand gestures in Casablanca last 2008. @mim0oo 😉🙂 I felt so happy that you made a shoutout to him. You have no idea how much it made him so happy! 😁 Keep it up! You're an inspiration to all DJs and DJ aspirants out there! 👆
It's really great to see so many versions and options to speed up the song to a much higher bpm ! But ... couldn't you have chosen a hardstyle song after that first one :D
Awsome Luke ! I used to sync all my sets and I think it is the best way to start and to make a flow . These tricks are good for changing the party's mood right ?
Hey Luke, Quick question about gigs. I was playing at a club last week and the promoter told me to play hip-hop all night. About 20 mins into the set I realise that the crowd was not at all feeling the music, and I kept getting requests to play more house music. I had asked the promoter and he said "no keep playing hip-hop." About 15 mins later I knew it wasn't working so I decided to switch things up and started playing a "housier" set. Once I started doing this the crowd started getting up and getting back on the dance floor and it looked like the majority of the people were having a good time. But about 15 mins later the promoter came up and said, "Hey, if you aren't going to play hip-hop I wont call you back and I will kick you off the decks right now." I decided to keep playing house music, and as it was "hip-hop" night played a lot a hip-hop remixes and mashups. At the end of the gig the promoter didn't talk to me and I know I blew my chance of playing at that venue again, but many members in the audience asked me if I would be willing to play at their private parties and events. So I guess that was good. My question is how would you react to a promoter like this, and would have done anything different than I did?
Can you do a tutorial on how complex mashups(more than one track with different breakdowns, drops, bpm, key, etc.) are made? Many examples of these: Hardwell's 2017 AFP Mashup a.k.a. Crank vs Spaceman vs Raise Your Hands vs Bang, Move vs Closer (Dannic Mashup), Reload vs Lose My Mind, etc. I would really like to know how the tracks are being meshed together and the climaxes are situated so you here the climax of one track on top of the other. How is that done on a DAW and transition the bass accordingly? Is it a fade up for the new track and fade down for the old track or is there more going on? Thanks Laidback Luke!
Interesting... IMO, examples mentioned have been done on a DAW, although sometimes mash ups of 3 or 4 tracks can be done on the fly. Depends how adventurous you want to be, its 3 or 4 more things to go wrong!
thanks dude one question since you talked bout mixing different genres on short period of time well i do mix dubstep and trap both with similar bps i use camelotHarmonicMixing i think thats what is called lol, anyways i dont get that much feed bad lol so is it ok to mix different genres as long as the have some sort of rhythm or flow for saying ?
I love your pronunciation, how do you speak english, is just agsfagafaga nice to hear, clean pronunciation. You dont know how doest it feel for someone who doesnt have a good listening as me or is lesrnimg english
Luke! Your instructions are clear and very informal , thank you so much! I wanted to know your opinion on the new denon cd djs vs the pionners. Which one are actually better? Thanks again!

@Laidback Luke how much do those Denons go for ? Are they cheaper than CDjs ? Are they similar to cdjs ? reason i ask is i been djing a long time on pioneer ddjsr and if im trying to transition into more professional gigs, i need to step my game up. So is the proce cheap ? or is there anything thats close to cdjs you can recommend that i can purchase to practice. Thanks alot LL, really been learning alot from you especially the production stuff :)
I was never too fond of you luke, but giving back to the community and showing us dj's eager to learn, while also showing us your more than just a big name, you've gained some mad respect..
Now that we are voting for the DJ Mag, it will be nice that in your next vlog you comment your top 10 producers and top 10 djs, in your opinion. 🙏
+1 would love to listen to a pro opinion because dj mag seems more like a popularity contest than a talent one
Yeah! I never voted for the DJ Mag myself but wouldn't it be kick ass if we all vote for Luke? Loved this, Luke. Never occurred to me that tempo sync was used in radio mixing. It makes sense now why those transitions are always so smooth.

Great video again Luke;) What I noticed in this video was the gate you used. As a tip: It sounds very unnatural...maybe if your purpose was to avoid background noise you could as well use the noise plug in from waves;) Hope that helped!

Thank you for a great video. You mentioned the “key pitch” button. My player doesn’t have one. Is there a way to control that through Serato Pro?
Can you do a part 2!? Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills. Your awesome
thanks dude one question since you talked bout mixing different genres on short period of time well i do mix dubstep and trap both with similar bps i use camelotHarmonicMixing i think thats what is called lol,
anyways i dont get that much feed bad lol so is it ok to mix different genres as long as the have some sort of rhythm or flow for saying ?
Salute from Mauritius Luke... :)
I love your pronunciation, how do you speak english, is just agsfagafaga nice to hear, clean pronunciation. You dont know how doest it feel for someone who doesnt have a good listening as me or is lesrnimg english

NEW SUBSCRIBER .. SOLID LAIDBACK LUKE FAN .. Love The Tutorials Master :D
Hey Luke, you rocked last week at SOMNII ; )
Can you show us how you scratch ?
It would be awesome ; )
Yo now this totally make sense. Thanks for helping people to improve their skills.
Luke! Your instructions are clear and very informal , thank you so much! I wanted to know your opinion on the new denon cd djs vs the pionners. Which one are actually better? Thanks again!
Thanks Luke :) I hope there are coming other videos like this!
Hi kuya LUKE,
Just wondering if you can share from your personal experience how to be consistent and not feed up with what you do example (djing, coz even if you love what you do eventually you'll get fed up) if youve been a resident dj meaning you work everynight 7 days a week? 30
Days a week? Any suggestion?
Thanks more power 💯
You are also quite the great the great Sifu~ (bow). Thanks for the videos added all of them on a playlist and subscribed. Hope to see more !
Danke Laidback Luke für die Tipps bin sehr gespannt auf den nächsten Vlog.☺
Love the T-Shirt LL! Can I ask where did you get it from?
Hey luke, i had this idea that maybe you (and possibly someone from mixmash team) could start doing a demo-listening series? You would put online a submission form and we could send in our tracks´and you select a few for each episode
Edit: the form would be for this serie only
go to his website and you will find a form. he listens already to many many demos nearly each day :)
Yeah ofcourse there is a demo submission, but this serie would be especially for feedback and subscribers who produces
Triple M pretty sure he already did this? Check out his "Let's sign a track together" video if that's what you meant
Not exactly what I mean but yeah seemed cool! You should take a look at Mr. Belt & Wezol demo rides, looking for a serie with that structure
just wanted to say ive heard your submissions on the spinnin talent pool and i love them. Keep up the amazing work man I love your music seriously
Hello sir!, a proud big fan here !!! Just wanna ask, is it fine to have a transition between bigroom to electro ??? Thanks !!!
can you switch from dance to dubstep then to electro / bigroom house in a set because they are all sub genres of EDM? that is my question
Great vid. Man. I liked it and so you got me as a newbie. Just subscribed 👍👍
Good tip about not switching genres quickly. I have a bad habit of doing that without thinking.
thanks luke you continues teach me with every video and every set you mix
Love your tutorials Luke
sir,can u make tutorial on various of genres???and explain them too.
would be helpful🙏❤🤘💪
