Honey is briefly mentioned and shown at 12:51 . And as far as what the title suggest "The Country with the Best Gut Health in the World Eats Lots of This" = he makes very clear the answer is unrefined carbs and fiber. Two nits is that country should be plural, as in countries and I would change the honey thumbnail to carbohydrate source foods instead.

I’ve been focusing more on gut health lately, and learning about different cultural diets is always eye-opening. Keeping my meals simple with steak and eggs has made a big difference, but adding some supplements I found in a book called Secret Supplements that turn you into a Superhuman really helped take things to the next level. One of the best for my gut has been digestive enzymes it’s been amazing for helping me break down food better and feel more comfortable after meals.

I lived in Turkey throughout my second pregnancy, and I was SO healthy. I gained zero lbs from weeks 0-20. I came back to the US at week 21-39 and I gained 60lbs! I know I was bound to put weight in anyway, but 60lbs in such a short time was devastating and I truly believe it’s the food quality, and what is IN the food in the US.

As much as I love the content on this channel, this particular video has many gaps in the studies. Not factoring in dysentery and other acute gut issues in India is a problem. Culturally, people in India don’t tend to go to hospitals unless things are really bad. So, just because the number of documented chronic cases is small, it doesn’t mean that reflects reality, unlike US where documented cases is closer to real numbers.

I knew I read these terms somewhere before. Killing off streptococcus mutans in the mouth is more important to me tho. It's found in arterial plaque, causes inflammation in the body and is killing us before xylitol causes issues. I dont swallow much of the xylitol. I just dont rinse

It might the same mechanism that's beneficial for dental health since it reduces bacterial adherence (i.e. acts like a soap) and good gut bacteria needs to adhere to intestinal lining to stick around. IMO you can compensate for this with probiotics though and constant fermented foods. I didn't know it improves lipid metabolism, so that's interesting! I do know it increases bowel motility, and moderately higher amounts will induce diarrhea (which also could be related to the first point)

Half teaspoon of coconut oil with half teaspoon of xylitol. Swish in mouth as if mouthwash for 5 to 10 minutes. Kills mouth bacteria that leads to gingivitis and cavities. And strengthens gum tissue.
It's safe to swallow some if you want, or spit it out to avoid the extra calories. Swallow too much can also cause a bit of laxative effect, no harm just loose bowels for a day.
I try to do that at least a few times a week, have had much improved response at dental check ups.

GLP-1 agonists like Ozempic and even natural ones like Berberine and probiotics which produce them are upper GI motility killers and gastric emptying killers, all of which increase total transit time. Of course lots of meat and hard cheeses will do that too, but with the extra bonus of hardened stools. I mentioned all this because someone with motility issues stemming from SIBO-C, IMO (intestinal methanogen overgrowth), post- infectious IBS from food poisoining which can yield alternating bouts of constipation with diarrhea, or vagus nerve issues, such as gastropareris, or GERD which delayed gastric emptying can greatly exacerbate, all want to do the *opposite* of these anti-digestive weight loss approaches.

Not to say they're completely healthy but given the conditions that exist there, from a western perspective, you'd think it'd be much worse. Unfortunately, this may be where insulin resistance is rearing its ugly head. I've seen a LOT of evidence in various studies on NIH and other sites that suggests India may have high rates of insulin resistance and pre-diabetes (as they call it)... this despite a healthier food supply chain than the USA, as an example.
Also, eating a lot of fruit... while preferable to eating junk food as we do in the USA... isn't as "healthy" as it was 500 years ago. Today's "fruit" is all "hybridized" and has been selectively bred for higher sugar content (lots of fructose molecules in fruits, all stored as fat around/below the liver). This means lower levels of FIBER per volume... and higher levels of fructose and water per volume.
Evidence of this is easy enough to find. Search online for centuries-old paintings (think 1600 or earlier) with cut-open fruits. Watermelon is one of the best examples. Paintings representing watermelon halves from 400+ years ago show the melons as being more the size of today's grapefruits... LOADED WITH SEEDS AND RIND INSIDE... hardly any red "meat" as they call the sweet parts of the fruit.
All fruit now is laden with sugar (lots of fructose) and therefore eating a lot of it can lead, ironically, to health issues relating to insulin resistance and excess fructose being stored as fat around the belly region.
It's very nuanced and complex, no black/white answers here - lots of gray areas I'm afraid.

No, there was always more influence from France upon the cuisine even of German-speaking Switzerland, not to speak of the Italian influence since the mass immigration of the 1960s. Switzerland was part of the Roman empire, to think it has a lot to do with 'great Germany' is wrong. The German-speakers take a healthy breakfast with lots of unrefined bread, followed then or in the evening with Müesli which contains oats and fruits, hence quite some fibers. Salads and vegetables are even more liked now than in France and Italy. Consequently one of lowest obesity rate and longevity.

Some interesting patterns but it's important to note that this is epidemi-guess-ology at it's worst. It could be none of the factors you hypothesize about. It could have absolutely nothing to do with food (though likely it has a role). The most important thing could easily be antibiotic use, water additives such as flouride or sanitizers, sun exposure/Vit-D consumption, stress, sleep, EMFs, toxins, thyroid issues, etc.

Tell me you haven't traveled to areas with poor infrastructure. The super fast travelers are because diarrhea and loose stool are common in areas without good sewage/water management infrastructure. India also has a lower rate of obesity, which means that they are unlikely to develop a lot of the digestive diseases. Yes, whole foods are better. We don't want to confuse the benefits of healthy eating with the problems of diarrhea. And I don't think anyone in the US would swap their "wealth" health issues for frequent diarrhea. And before the hate comments start, I've traveled a lot and I love the countries I've visited. This is absolutely NOT a dig on the people, and it obviously doesn't apply to every area in India. It's just a statement regarding the CURRENT state of the sewer and disease prevention systems. Cholera is still endemic there.

    • @pequalsnp
      @pequalsnp หลายเดือนก่อน

      L. Reuteri is definitely a good microbe to have that was once native to human flora, but I wouldn't be like Dr. Davis, despite the merits of his arguments, and act like L. Reuteri is the magic bullet and be-all and end-all of probitotics. We need diversity in gut flora. And speaking from experience, it can also trigger some histamine or similar allergic-like reactions as you acclimate, especially since most strains of L. Reuteri produce potent bacteriocins (antibiotics) which affect other microbes, both good and bad. I know this because the only L. Reuteri strain that doesn't give me some hives in high doses (a few billions CFU) is Lactobacillus reuteri NCIMB 30242 aka LRC, which is marketed for Vitamin D production and cholesterol control. It's the only strain that I know of which does not produce bacteriocins and which Dr. Davis recommends against.

Spain has bad intestinal health because everything is so contaminated with nasty microorganisms. For example, many people I know cannot eat commercial chicken and most meats because of the horrible migraines they cause. Spain is not like the rest of Europe. In Spain, you have rampant glyphosate, caseine A1, no grass fed meats unless you live in a very rich area, but the contamination can still be there even in high quality meats. I dont know what microorganisms cause this, but apparently the Spanish authorities do not seem to care about it all at because it's been getting worse and worse every year. It's impossible to eat healthy in Spain and the risk of getting gastrointestinal disturbance is extremely high.
Conclusion: fiber, alcohol, etc. all play a part, but the specific types of micoorganisms found in a particular area is most important, and so to understand the poor gut health, you need to look at "desinfection" practices, such as excessive use of desinfectants, antibiotics, chemicals, etc. something african countries do not do very much at all, but it is rampant in Western countries like the States and Spain.
Note that many people in Spain and the United States eat fiber and meat but still do not have the great microbiome africans or other naturally living people have because anything they eat is full of good bacteria, whereas the bacterial floras in Europe and the US are depleted because of desinfection practices.

8:15 You are really pushing this product but be really careful that it does not end up like that green powder stuff did, marketing campaign and design and overall looks really feels like scam or at least product which is exactly the same as all others, one thing to ask your self is why do they invest so much in promotion and design and not in real tests and long term trials and why other pharmaceutical companies are not doing the same thing, meaning the whole campaign is somehow designed, even your words which they made you say, like convincing us that product works, are other companies stupid? Do their products even work, meaning all other companies, if it is a fact that all other single capsule probiotics are delivered "too early" and/or in the "wrong place" what is preventing them to make double capsule or even one thicker, again are they stupid is it that hard to make capsule that dissolves slower if that is the problem, if not then why? Why do you think other companies would not immediately take this double capsule, empty the contents and put their own product inside and test, if it works then literally tomorrow all of them would be either in double capsule or in thicker one?
If that delivery mechanism is one of the key points why this works, why would you make it transparent for all of other companies to immediately see it and literally copy it, or is it more likely it is made just for looks because it does look pretty interesting and strange which does attract our attention visually. I bet as soon as they made their product available at least 10 other companies took that concept and tested but I dont see it widely used so what is that telling you? They tested it, proven it does work better and then decided they will not use it, why?
