Quantum of solace means a little comfort. Bond doesn't find peace in revenge because Vesper meant so much to him and her loss wounded him so deeply. As he mentioned in Casino Royal his work has a cost and he feels her death took the last of his humanity all he has left is duty.
The thing that stood out the most to me about QoS is how brutal James is throughout the film and how it is a direct result of Vesper's betrayal and her death. It's one of the only times where James is hellbent on revenge and isn't really prioritized on the mission entirely
That car chase at the beginning went through the Carrara marble quarries, the place where Michelangelo got his marble for all those statues he carved. And that server girl at 42:27 is Oona Chaplin, the actress who played Robb Stark's wife in GoT.
This movie was unlucky to met with 2007-2008 WGA strike during filming, I heard director Marc Foster had to used a barely finished script to filming this movie. Which is why everything felt rushed this time, left tons of questions unanswered. Only Bond found bit of closure with Vesper's death.
Mathis was betrayed by his old friend, the police chief, who he didn't know was corrupt and already working with Greene/Medrano. The police chief makes a comment at Greene's party about Mathis being "a mutual friend", hence Bond's comment "You and I had a mutual friend!" right before he kills the police chief to avenge Mathis.
It was fitting that Bond and Camille did not sleep together. Two people on their missions of revenge cross paths, join forces, and take out the bad guys. Love this film!
The opera is Tosca by Giacomo Puccini. It's in Italian and oh hell yes there is murder! It's an amazing piece that I've been able to sing chorus in. You gave my hubby a shoutout for his auditions-he sings the lead tenor role(Mario Cavaradosi)often. The two big solo numbers, Vissi d'arte(I lived for art) and E lucevan le Stelle(And the starts were shining)are two of opera most recognizable arias. TH-cam 'em. Really great
It's closer than that. Goldfinger for decades was the best bond film. And while I agree that Skyfall is the best Bond film, Goldfinger is still a very close #2. Daniel Craig was so good, but Sean Connery was consistently better.
Because of the writers strike, they leaned heavily into the action scenes to fill out the narrative and the run time. it's still an enjoyable watch, and with time and context it means more to the overall arc, but still a weaker installment. But Judi Dench again just kills it at as "M".
Bond is Bond so naturally there's a degree of "super human" to his performance and a lot of plot armor but also, you can do a lot when you're a highly trained agent running on a massive amount of adrenalin. That lets you push through a lot that might otherwise be debilitating since the body will block out or reduce the inputs from pain receptors. After you come down off that high you'll crash hard though. I think arguably the more impressive (and "just Bond things" moment is after the fight when he calmly walks back.) I am not highly trained and I was able to (unknowingly) push through a broken rib and a punctured lung playing soccer for a good 10 min before being unable to breathe or really stand, just from the adrenalin. There are a lot of other, far more impressive, real world examples too.
I am not a neurologist but know a few people that have lost digits and limbs, and they all tell me they have phantom pain. Since the nerves that go to the digit or limb is still there just cut short the sensory input and return still works. I hope this helps till a medical professional with significantly more biological expertise can further educate us all. The cool Smart table is Microsoft Surface, about $10,000.00.
This movie suffered a bit from the fact that it was filmed during the 2007 writers strike in Hollywood. So no rewrites, no changes made to the script to clean things up and/or improve the story. They had to go with what was there. Also Casino Royale was so good that this one doesn't quite live up to the standard that it set. Skyfall though. . . Skyfall ups the ante and improves on everything. IMO it is the BEST Daniel Craig Bond film. And I will die on this hill, but I would rank Skyfall above Goldfinger as the best Bond film of all time. Edit: 56:44 I was writing this and just as I finish and hit the button to post it, this pops up.
Quantum was a continuation of Casino and not necessarily a stand alone film. Notice how it picked up right after the events of the first film. He shot Mr. White at the end of the previous movie and he was in the trunk being taken in for the interrogation at the beginning of this one. I think that's why it feels so different than the other Daniel Craig Bond films.
The way they introduce new MI6 agents. Killing off the old versions is done very well. It helps having seen previous Bond movies to know whom I am talking about. The general has played that role very well.
Widely regarded as one of the least favourites in the Craig era, but I don't think it's all that bad. It doesn't hold a candle to Casino Royale, but that movie set a high bar.
My grandfather loved Bond movies. He had dvds of every single Bond movie up to Quantum. Unfortunately he passed away before Skyfall came out but I love all the Daniel Craig movies and like watching them with him so I make sure to watch every reaction to them I can find
The opening car chase is shot at Lake Garda in Italy, and is absolutely spectacular. One of the nicest places I've been (and absolutely LOADED with fashion/ shoe/ bag shops !)
Someone once described this as 007's manic-depressive suicidal f*ck murder party; a fever dream 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' sequel you never got, which is destined to be misunderstood. Interestingly, the majority of the film - all of the action sequences, basically - was in fact directed by the second unit director and stuntman, Dan Bradley, who's worked on the Bourne films, Green Zone, Spiderman 2 & 3, Indiana Jones (Crystal Skull & Dial of Destiny), and loads of other action films. Everything else was Marc Foster. Great director, who understands character, but the script - or what little there was of it - really did fail him. Great fun rewatching with you both!
Nikki: So if you get castrated does it still hurt? Steven: How would I know?!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 You two are hilarious. So much fun to watch with😅. So happy you're doing the Daniel Craig Bond movies. My favorite Bond😊
I think you guys will really enjoy going through the Bond series from the 60s onwards, the shift in tone along the way, trying to balance a little silliness with reality. The contrast of the Daniel Craig films against those is quite interesting, along with the continuity as well, and little easter eggs thrown in, that don't mean much without seeing those prior films
I agree with everyone who say this particular Bond movie is underrated. It moves at a faster pace than Casino Royale & has a much different vibe but is an excellent bridge to Skyfall. And Olga Kurylenko is lowkey one of the best Bond girls in the franchise; not a conquest of 007's but an EQUAL.
I think this is a rather solid Bond movie, and one that hits all the beats a Bond movie should. But it suffered from very choppy editing (particularly in the early half of the movie) as a result of issues during post-production, and it made this the black sheep of the Daniel Craig 007 films.
This is my favourite of the Craig Bond films because it gives us a human and flawed Bond more than the others. The one thing I keep telling people when they say they didn't think this movie was as good as Casino Royale is that this is the the end chapter of CR. It's Bond finally becoming Bond and learning temperance. He finally learned also through what Camille went through as a female counterpart to his. He finally saw through her a mirror of himself. So for me, this film is better in that Bond finally becomes Bond. Craig's work in this acting wise is better in the amount of layers he had to show. Also this film showed how the world does work. It's not about terrorists like LaChiffre. It's about the world's resources and how governments hold them hostage for profit. The world can find other alternatives to oil in terms of wind, solar, etc. But the world cannot exist without water. If millionaires start buying up land for aquifers, we're all screwed. Greene may not have been an "impressive" villain, but he was the kind to fear because he has more money and power through moving money to fund corrupt governments. One only has to look at what's happening in Russia right now with Putin. His hit on Navalny. That's how the world works. That's what this film was showing. Again, why this is my favouirite of Craig's time as Bond.
The actor who played the villain wearing the toupee was in the Why We Fight episode of Band of Brothers; he played the concentration camp survivor who was telling Winters what the camp was and what the Germans were doing at the camp.
In reference to Nikki's question about "the pain" at 7:55 I would refer to Game of Thrones, Season 7 and Episode 7 where it seems to completely not phase Theon whatsoever.
Hi guys. I just started watching your videos and absolutely love them. I actually feel that you guys are like in the living room with me watching the movie. Great reactions. Love the backgrounds. And Nikki always makes me laugh she has me in stitches. Keep up the great work and I'm going to keep watching and spread the word
8:31 😂it’s always been unclear how Bond could possibly have saved his nether parts after that torture scene. Is that why Vesper was so keen on making sure Bond knew she thought he was “more of a man…” than anyone else?
Mathis was betrayed by the police chief in Bolivia. He thought they were friends, but he was actually working for Greene. So when Mathis asked to get Bond in to the party, Greene had him killed by the corrupt police for it.
What makes James Bond able to keep going when other people are groaning in pain is his extremely high pain tolerance and stoicism that verges on psychopathology.
With this being a direct sequel to Casino Royale and the truncated viewing time, I think of this movie more as a "Part 2" to Casino Royale. Not to mention the plot of a delibrate man made drought to then sell "Utilities" at an inflated rate to the sufferers of that drought is insane, and yet one of the most realistic plots of any of the movies in my opinion. I could really see this play out in a real life.
I’ve grown to appreciate this film over the years and as an add on to Casino Royale’ storyline but it’s not bad just a bit awkwardly cut to try to mirror the Bourne films. Not the worst bond film by any mile. Also love Nikki’s idea of a “Fuuuu**” lyrical opera!
The most underrated Bond film in my opinion due to the fact most people hated it even after being aware of the writers strike. The action scenes are great, location is great, the villain isn’t that bad, he’s realistic for one which is one of the most important things for me, there’s several Greene’s operating in real life, combine this with the corrupt military general and it strengthens it because it’s accurate and relatable to current and previous historical events (dictatorships, coups, regimes) There’s been at least 4-5 villains who were worse because they didn’t even have the realistic element going for them. I agree that the plot should be stronger but at least it’s a realistic plot, including the US government with it’s historical links to coups and attempted coups in the America’s was a nice addition. Combine this with the writers strike, there should be some exceptions. It definitely shouldn’t be hated, disliked by some yes but not hated.
I grew up watching Bond movies so I've seen every one. Each Bond has been a reflection of the time in which they were made. I think Dame Judi Dench was the best M, she was the only one that didn't take Bond's crap either from this one or Brosnan's version.
This isn't many people's fave, but I liked it a lot. Maybe because it resolved the Vesper plot, in a satisfying way. Plus, there isn't a real romance plot-- there's Bond's friendship with Camille, and his caring for M. But another romance would have sucked. This worked better.
but Camille had a tragic life, so Bond was still recovering from Vesper, and having romance with Camille, could harm her more... specially reviving her trauma! Something i wish he kept in mind in Skyfall!
Theon Greyjoy didn't seem bothered on the beach when he got the nutcracker treatment without the equipment. I'm also thinking of the movie She's The Man where the girl pretending to be a boy has to remember that getting hit there should hurt. The over the top late reaction is exactly what I'd do, because idk how it actually feels.
The alleged hotel at the end is the so-called ESO Hotel. it belongs to the European Space Agency (European Southern Observatory). It's not a hotel, it's where the scientists and technicians who work on the VLT Very Large Telescope sleep.
Out of all the Bond movies, it's still better than Connery's, Brosnan's and Moore's worst. It's a solid 6 out of 10; if watched immediately after Casino Royale, a 6.75
The opening scene was filmed a few miles south of my town in april 2007 ! The cop speaking at the radio during the chase is a friend of mine, that had the chances to be an extra :-)
Before Vesper, there as just the job. After Vesper Bond had a heart. She opened it, allowed him to feel again. That is why losing her is such a tragedy. Just as he opens himself up, she seemingly betrays him, but really worked to save him. but she knew if she lived they would be hunted. This movie was about revenge, and letting go, as you saw when he dropped the necklace. And at the same time proving to M, that as he said. "I never left." I know alot didn't like this movie as much, but when you take is as part of the whole, it was really needed for the arch that Bond goes through through out these films. Alot of was dumped in this film, but it only adds to the mystic, and the depth that is Spectre. This film shows just how far spread the Organization is. As the first film set it up.
Always love your reactions dear Nikki & Steven! Please consider watching some older Bond movies together. I find it a bit sad, when first time viewers get to 40:20 and their immediate reaction isn't nostalgia for Goldfinger.
These movies with Daniel Craig are all one story, cant say more. That's why Vesper is mentioned so much. These are all great movies. Cant wait to see your reaction of the others.
I have watched Casino Royale a lot over the last few months and as well as being thoroughly entertaining it has also done something I didn't think was possible... It has made me realise that Quantum of Solace is in fact quite a good film. Sure, it has some pretty significant weaknesses such as the frantic editing during action sequences and muddled plotting but I'm often inclined to forgive execution issues when the intentions are good and there are hints of brilliance peeking through. There is some really great stuff here like the use of Camille as a reflection of Bond and his journey and battle with grief and revenge. As I mentioned previously the plot is muddled and unfolds at breakneck speed which on a first watch can really distract you from the great work being done under the surface. Until my most recent watch of Quantum of Solace I, like everyone in the film thought James was out of control and stacking up bodies on a quest for revenge when in actuality he is doing the total opposite. He has buried himself in his work in an attempt to hide from his grief. All of the kills he carries out are either for good unemotional reasons or unavoidable, and most importantly he does not take revenge by killing Dominic Greene or Yusef Kabira who were the 2 people actually complicit in Vesper's death. It does have significant flaws and it may actually work better as an extended coda to Casino Royale but Quantum of Solace is a better film than it is given credit for, that tells a story about revenge and whether there is any solace to be found in not pursuing it.
It's a rough film but Craig is top notch in it, I'd rather watch this than most of the ones that come next. Skyfall holds a special place in my heart though.
Steven is going to use that tonight. "I can't find the um, stationary" on Nikki. :D Generally, people like 1, 3 and 5 best, with 3 being considered the best by most.

This movie was impacted by the writer strike and lead to the Director and Daniel Craig doing some of the screenplay un-accredited.
You guys should check out the movie Layer Cake. I think that movie is why Daniel Craig got the James Bond role.
You folks should check out Road to Perdition (2002) with Tom Hanks, Jude Law, Daniel Craig and Paul Newman.
Nikki and Steven you guys should do all the Pierce Bronson Bond movies. M is introduced in those. They are fun as well and over the top.
7:10...Come on Nikki, they're obviously not cherries they're ferrets...jeez! 😉😊🤣
Quantum of solace means a little comfort. Bond doesn't find peace in revenge because Vesper meant so much to him and her loss wounded him so deeply. As he mentioned in Casino Royal his work has a cost and he feels her death took the last of his humanity all he has left is duty.
Olga and Daniel's back and forth about M being his "mother" is my favorite part of this film and honestly the Craig movies as a whole.

More like Quantum of Solid Doodoo amirite
"How many boats did he fuck up?"
But he gave someone a motorcycle, so there's that.
Kudos to you two for watching this on the live stream, and then editing it and getting it up tonight. Respect.
i always loved the Goldfinger call back with Ms Fields covered in oil instead of gold. Nice touch
Apparently her first name was strawberry. ( folks were beatles fans)
It was fitting that Bond and Camille did not sleep together. Two people on their missions of revenge cross paths, join forces, and take out the bad guys. Love this film!
I love how in the opera scene, some of the "villains" were smart enough to stay seated to not be discovered
TH-cam 'em. Really great
You’re gonna watch Skyfall next. Easily the best Bond film ever and one of my favourites of all time!
mate skyfall is so so good. i still remember watching it in the cinema
Skyfall is soooo awesome!!! It's right up there with "Casino Royale"!
It's closer than that. Goldfinger for decades was the best bond film. And while I agree that Skyfall is the best Bond film, Goldfinger is still a very close #2. Daniel Craig was so good, but Sean Connery was consistently better.
Goldeneye?
"I have an itch....down there....would you mind?" Greatest torture victim line in movie history.
Agreed 1000000000%😊
Noooooo Noooooo to the right, to the right..😂😂
Because of the writers strike, they leaned heavily into the action scenes to fill out the narrative and the run time. it's still an enjoyable watch, and with time and context it means more to the overall arc, but still a weaker installment. But Judi Dench again just kills it at as "M".
Wrong movie.
I didn't say it was from this movie, ds.@@BrandonWestfall
I love that the movie follows on right from casino royal, I saw it in the cinema :)
And, no one realizes the continuation from the end of Casino Royal till Bond opens the trunk to let Mr White out. I loved it.
Wait till the next one, Skyfall! My favorite Bond movie off so times!
I don’t care what anyone says, The Craig Bond Trilogy is incredible.

"The ball is the sensitive aspect of being kicked in the balls" :D Fantastic fact Steven, love you guys :)
The hostess actress is Oona Chaplin. She's the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin. She was great in a show called "Taboo" alongside Tom Hardy.
Shr was also in the excellent Inside No 9 episode, A Quiet Night In
😊😊😊
yeah she was great in Taboo, I was bummed they didn't continue
Don’t forget her gut punching scene in Game of Thrones 😉
She speaks Spanish?
I love every single film in this saga with Daniel Craig

It doesn't hold a candle to Casino Royale, but that movie set a high bar.
There is one older Bond movie that has scenes in a glass sculpture museum.
Even back then, you always expect a fight to start any moment now.
The plot of the 2008 James Bond film Quantum of Solace is heavily based on the Cochabamba Water War
My grandfather loved Bond movies. He had dvds of every single Bond movie up to Quantum. Unfortunately he passed away before Skyfall came out but I love all the Daniel Craig movies and like watching them with him so I make sure to watch every reaction to them I can find
Great positive Way to grieve and hold up the memory of an loved One, my Respect , Sir.

So happy you're doing the Daniel Craig Bond movies. My favorite Bond😊
Bond, I need you back.
I never left.
Best line in this movie that tells you all you need to know about Craig's Bond.
Skyfall is my favourite of the Craig movies
The car chase at the beginning of this movie is so good.
I think you guys will really enjoy going through the Bond series from the 60s onwards, the shift in tone along the way, trying to balance a little silliness with reality. Daniel Craig did a good amount of his own stunts during these movies and apparently hurt himself quite a bit.
Next film is the best of the Daniel Craig series, can’t wait to see that reaction!
Paloma is better... From Craig era, i really love Severine... sadly we know what it happen!
It’s still in my eyes a great bond film I’ve been a bong fan since the mid 60’s old bond films
I❤ This Bond Series ! Daniel Craig Is My Favorite Bond And Lady Judy Dench Is A Wonderful Treat Of A Co-star!
Dame, not Lady.
I think this is a rather solid Bond movie, and one that hits all the beats a Bond movie should. But it suffered from very choppy editing (particularly in the early half of the movie) as a result of issues during post-production, and it made this the black sheep of the Daniel Craig 007 films.

"How would I know!" 🤣🤣🤣
Now, you guys need to watch Skyfall, Spectre, no time to die and ALL the james bond classics once and for all.
In reference to Nikki's question about "the pain" at 7:55 I would refer to Game of Thrones, Season 7 and Episode 7 where it seems to completely not phase Theon whatsoever.
So, a fictional reference?
A lot is made about the quality of this film, the whole good/bad thing.. For me this is a movie which finds its place in the series in retrospect.
Hi guys. I just started watching your videos and absolutely love them. I actually feel that you guys are like in the living room with me watching the movie. Great reactions. Love the backgrounds. 12:34 - Olga Kurylenko, from Hitman movie, and as Taskmaster in MCU's Black Widow.
The hotel is actually is staff and visitor accommodation for the giant telescope in the Atacama desert

Cool. I'm glad we got this one out of the way. Enjoyed the reaction though. 'I'm here all week.' had me rolling. Cheers guys.
I know a lot of people think this isn't as good as some of the other DC Bonds but it's right up there for me.
I had seen the villain in a film 'The Diving .Bell. and the Butterfly' about a stroke survivor who could only communicate by blinking. Recommended.
The over the top late reaction is exactly what I'd do, because idk how it actually feels.
great reaction as always! cant wait for the next one.
41:00 - Those agents aren't trained like 'Double-O's.
If Nikki wants an opera with swearing, look up Jerry Springer The Opera.
The alleged hotel at the end is the so-called ESO Hotel. it belongs to the European Space Agency (European Southern Observatory). It's not a hotel, it's where the scientists and technicians who work on the VLT Very Large Telescope sleep.
Yes
The desert scenes were filmed in Chile, and it was a really big deal with a lot of media coverage about a "big Hollywood movie" filming here.
Out of all the Bond movies, it's still better than Connery's, Brosnan's and Moore's worst. It's a solid 6 out of 10; if watched immediately after Casino Royale, a 6.75
Oh that laugh Nikki so contagious!
Every time someone talks about the jump cuts when Liam Neeson jumps over the fence, I think of this movie.
19:59 Must have bought it from Princess Lucky: she's got _huge..._ tracts of land! 😳
If you sit on that table do you get the same effect as sitting on the copier at the office?😂
Felix leitner was in the old bonds too | Daniel was in one of the old Tomb Raider movies
So glad I found your guys channel looking just subscribed
The opening scene was filmed a few miles south of my town in april 2007 !
The cop speaking at the radio during the chase is a friend of mine, that had the chances to be an extra :-)
According to Game of Thrones it doesnt hurt. 😆
But keep in mind, Bond has extra balls.
The next movie Skyfall happens to be the best of the Daniel Craig Bond films. And is actually one of the best Bond movies period.
It’s not the best, it’s the one you like the most
"How many boats did he just F up" oh just wait.
Nikki’s opera joke had me laughing the rest of the reaction.
"I never left."
I know alot didn't like this movie as much, but when you take is as part of the whole, it was really needed for the arch that Bond goes through through out these films. Alot of was dumped in this film, but it only adds to the mystic, and the depth that is Spectre. This film shows just how far spread the Organization is. As the first film set it up.
Great reaction the next one is his best
Always love your reactions dear Nikki & Steven!
Please consider watching some older Bond movies together.
I find it a bit sad, when first time viewers get to 40:20 and their immediate reaction isn't nostalgia for Goldfinger.
After rewatching some tiktoks of polite catcalling, now hearing Steven say Damn girl/boy has a new meaning & makes me smile.
I liked this movie. But wait till you watch Skyfall. My favorite Bond movie
These movies with Daniel Craig are all one story, cant say more. That's why Vesper is mentioned so much. These are all great movies. Cant wait to see your reaction of the others.
Skyfall & No Time To Die are my faves, but I'm watching with you two!! 🎉🎉
@@OriginalPuro Take it the way you like. The comment was for them.
In this movie, bond had to get out all the feelings he still had wrapped up in his little finger.
43:23 She’s also Charlie Chaplin's granddaughter, Oona.
7:58 The pillar or the stones?
I LOVE THESE BONDS
If we are doing Daniel Craig movies you should check out The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (American Version). Such a great movie!
Skyfall up next! Skyfall is (imo of course) the best Bond movie. While Skyfall is the best, No Time To Die is my favorite.
Steven is going to use that tonight. "I can't find the um, stationary" on Nikki. :D
Generally, people like 1, 3 and 5 best, with 3 being considered the best by most.
