I don't have a G- Shock & probably won't ever get one but i like this one.
I like it. Like the colour palette - and I have connections to Atlanta and Tokyo. I’ve ordered one.

Honestly, you could create multiple videos titled: “Why, Ben Clymer?” Hodinkee (these days) is striving to appeal to the ultra-rich, out of touch & tasteless. - spot on with this vid and stays on theme with Hodinkee‘s current path.

I have a fondness for gshock and many of their limited editions, this one feels weird to me. Hence the upload!

It looks as if that is still using the EL backlight so it’s the old module. Last year Casio released the DW-5600UE-1JF which uses the more power efficient LED backlight via the 3525 module
I think the problem is that G-shock is the opposite of what Hodinkee stands for. It’s unpretentious, fresh, honest and affordable. Hodinkee is about people who see watches as a way to promote themselves.

Great video, I totaly agree. Unfortunately you did not mention the "I got to have one"- aspect of a (rare) double swiss, apologies, double casio signed and underline dial/bezel of a 5600... who are they kidding!?
Thanks for expressing all of my feelings about this watch. Disappointed really, it could have been something cool… maybe a GM-2100 with fully brushed steel case? (I’m just waiting for Casio to issue this anyway, doesn’t need a Hodinkee logo).
I often think that the only way I would improve my metal square was to have a brushed finish applied. Just the side flanks are a bit too shiny
It’s so dumb. It’s as if they were intentionally trying to come up with the most boring and inane watch possible. 😅
Interesting thoughts on it. It’s all subjective. As you say you like Gshock. I generally don’t, but like this one.

That was designed by someone who takes himself too seriously.
I don't understand how they thought this was a good idea. I mean, something like this gets looked at by a lot people prior to moving forward with producing it, and all them signed off on it as is? They really need to do a postmortem and see where the break in competency was that lead to this being green lit.
I would be interested in making a follow up of anything ever came to light about the design process.

I love mine honestly, the colors are what i was drawn to.
But i do agree the NYC TYO ATL times not being available is a bit misleading.

Was ready to come on and say "gatekeeping", but all the points you raised are valid lol. I think the light blue and grey Mayer ones are pretty sweet and the Sheeran one I don't like the face plate but the yellow doesn't bother me. As always, all of these will always be a better buy in the original. Once the black bezel and strap wear out, knock yourself out with all the colors available. As to this particular one, who knows if the guy wears this with his tweeds. I rarely wear a suit, but I've been known to wear an all stainless steel digital whilst in a suit. Have not had the gall yet to wear a resin digital in a suit lol. Yeah, nice colors except the green faceplate looks terrible and is meaningless. Is the H in the backlight worth 130USD? Doubt it.

All great points on here. I hadn’t seen this picture with the watch on this guy’s wrist. It makes sense there, but I don’t think that’s the best green they could have chosen. And I don’t see any other outfit this would make sense with either. Top this all off with a module that has no world time while international cities adorn the dial. All the thought that must’ve gone into the design of this watch goes right out the window when you see the whole package.
The watch industry has become stale and extremely greedy
While I agree that Hodinkee has jumped the shark, I actually like this watch on its own merits. I wear a lot of olives, blacks, and greys, and it blends with that well. The two greys remind me of vintage Nintendo, which I don’t hate. Couldn’t care less about the Hodinkee tie in. Lack of world time is irritating though.

@@CasualWatchReviews it’s on wrist currently. I’m in the middle of the eastern seaboard, and it shipped from Kennesaw Georgia, so it got here quick. Methinks shipping may’ve been handled by Hodinkee themselves, as I bought the girlfriend a GLXS5600-3 direct from Casio, and it shipped from New Jersey. I do like that they included a proper box with this one. I bought the Sheeran one previously as well, (it was loud, I like the occasional loud watch as a change of pace) and the tin was a bit of a letdown. The backlight logo on this one, while obnoxious, doesn’t obscure the time. My daily is a Pelagos 39, and from a distance it doesn’t really look like anything. You kinda have to be into watches to know what you’re looking at, and the same could be said said for this thing, which I like. Ultimately though, it’s a “cool beater” to me, same as with the Sheeran. Only other digital watch I own is an Ironman Flix, which I also use as a beater (though dislike compared to the Casios due to comparatively arcane mode sequence).
I reviewed the Flix but it was loaned in by my friend WatchChris. Wear the Hodinkee in good health, I do a lot of g-shcok content so my audience was likely expecting me to 'react' to this one 😂
