Dude, Nick is so awesome. Got lucky enough to do sound for him in 2019 and it was one of the best shows I've been at. Always puts 110% in to his performances. That comes across well in this episode. Loving these episodes! So glad you had Nick on

Haven’t heard of you guys nor Medium Build, so glad I clicked a couple months ago, since then found one if my fav musicians in a long time and he happened to be performing here in Seattle and I went and one of the best shows I’ve seen! He kills it, no bullshit, raw emotions and high level musicianship.!
I’m commenting for all those reasons but so the algorithm will randomly grab another’s attention.

So. Its 2024 were all watching ourselves constantly and as an oldie i want to hear songs i love sweetly. But truth is. Rawness cuts. And he knows when to do it. This isnt fucked up shenanigans. This is it.
Such an inspired performance, especially Cutting Thru the Country. Damn.
Saw him opening for Tyler Childers. My wife and I were instantly fans. He was sooo damn humble and super funny. I wouldn’t be shocked if he gets to that next level. He made the entire audience just scream apparently to get rid of demons or something, weirdly, it was fun and was hilarious and fun. Dude is real as far as I could see

He was incredible at the Tyler childers concert in San diego, california on April 5th. Absolutely incredible. Tyler childers picked a great artist to open for him. Tyler was also phenomenal that night, as always.

What we have on display here is a master showcase of original songwriting, emotion, and raw talent. Found this the other day and have since come back numerous times, ripped through Nick's catalog on Spotify, and bought tickets to his Bowery Ballroom show in New York in June. Although there's a wealth of recorded songs, I feel he's just scratching the surface of his talent and promise as an artist.
I've also never been so torn by the difference between an artist's live recordings vs studio recordings. The weight and gravitas of his songs shines in every live recording and performance, while I feel the studio recordings fail to capture his true essence as a singer-songwriter. Cowboy leans towards pop or indie-folk and I just think that's a travesty considering what he's delivering on the live front. The slower, stripped back songs work best in the studio recordings (Knowing You Exist, Hey Sandra, Say It Back), and I think he finds the best balance between rawness and modern gloss on Stick Around and Beach Chair. There's a reason why he's opening for Tyler Childers, and I hope Nick finds that balance on the next record, because right now Cowboy is a 7/10 and could be a 10/10 with the right production decisions.
I never comment on videos like this and I'm almost embarrassed to be doing it now, because he'll read this and think fuck this guy, but I think Nick has the potential to be one of the greats with the right direction. Over and out.

@@jamesg199t I will say, the recordings have grown on me, but I still think there's a better balance to be struck between the rawness of his live sessions and the gloss of the studio. I'm confident he'll figure it out. Still can't stop listening!

That “Say Hi” song/live version is soooooo gooood. Post Clinton American optimism was totally what I thought of when I heard the song 😋 love his soft and sweet vocals juxtaposed against his amazing growls, yells and screaming…so unique and so good.
