  • In this video, I show you how to make a petite handbag with either rolled handles with a painted edge or flat handles that have no raw edges. We also show you how to add D rings to your handbag in order to add a removable body strap for another carry option. I’m sewing on a Juki DU-1181n industrial sewing machine in the video but it has been tested on a domestic machine as well.
    *Monroe Handbag pattern with detailed instructions and pattern pieces can be found at lindshandmade.com
    *Flower fabric is a quilt cotton designed by Rifle Paper co
    *Magenta cowhide leather is a 2oz weight and the leather glue is Ecoweld, both from Tandy Leather
    *Waterproof canvas is from Fabricwholesaledirect.com
    *Leather double sided tape is from wawak.com. (For a domestic machine friendly double sided tape, try the brand from Tandy leather, or Dritz wash away tape.)
    *Zipper by the yard is from ningbags.com
    *Cording used in the rolled handles is a ⅜” polypropylene roping from Home Depot, or ⅜” cotton filler cord by Wrights
    *Spring snaps are from Amazon: amzn.to/2RwqehT
    This pattern is listed as intermediate and may be difficult for those brand new to sewing.

    Best instructions ever! Nobody else ever shows how to do the back side of the zipper and yes, it does cause anxiety for me having to guess. I haven’t made a purse from cotton yet but yours look awesome. Can’t wait to make these two I’ve just watched. Stephanie and this one.

    This bag is sooooo cute, and your fabric selections are perfect for spring! I'm adding it to my cue. Right now I'm right in the middle of making a bunch of H20 2GO's. Great tutorial - thank you!

      It wasn’t easy and felt like it took FOR-EV-ER but this pattern was already designed a few years ago ☺️. It just needed to be typed up which helped.

    Can I ask where you got the edge paint applicator? I did a search but didn't see any quite like that. More importantly, thank you for the great explanation and demonstration using the edge paint. I was very clueless about it but certainly want to learn. Thank you!

      If you search “leather edge paint applicator” or “leather edge paint roller tool” you’ll see it pop up! Amazon carries it or local leather places.

      I got mine from the buckleguy dot com. It’s only for the Giardini brand that you need the base coat dense.

    I would love to make these rolled handles to finish a bag i am currently making. I have used hidden connectors to attach the hardware to the bag so need to find a way to add the handles now. Do you think this template would work and i try to rivet the end when its on the bag

    • @LindsHandmadeDesigns
      @LindsHandmadeDesigns  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I’ve done it after the fact before. Just tuck the end up under as best as you can and rivet in place

    Is the a product you can use instead I’d Decovil light?

    • @LindsHandmadeDesigns
      @LindsHandmadeDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The decovil light really does give it the best feel/structure but I understand it can be hard to find these days so you could try fusible fleece.

    • @LindsHandmadeDesigns

    Not mad keen on drop in linings, would the pattern work using the birthing method?

    • @LindsHandmadeDesigns
      @LindsHandmadeDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re welcome to give it a try but it’s definitely not written for that method and will be hard to do with the decovil light. I usually birth my bags myself but this style really works for the drop in lining. I’d suggest making it as written the first time to see if it changes your mind and then change it up if you’re still not keen on it.

    Lovely! Could this work in all vinyl? I have an 1181n. Thanks!

    • @LindsHandmadeDesigns
      @LindsHandmadeDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! I’ve done one in all vinyl with the WPC liner and it worked out just fine, especially if you have the walking foot industrial. I did NOT use the decovil light on the vinyl since it wasn’t a lightweight drapey kind either 👍🏻

      @@LindsHandmadeDesigns Thank you. I had problems with printing the pattern--it went off the edges of the page. Any suggestions? I've never had this with any other pattern, and I have dozens.

    • @LindsHandmadeDesigns
      @LindsHandmadeDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would definitely check your printer settings because none of the pieces go to the edge of the page and should all fit. Make sure it’s printing at 100% or “actual size”. Also that it didn’t default to print landscape OR portrait but that “auto” was selected. Some pattern pieces are oriented landscape and some portrait so if it defaults to the wrong setting, some will print correctly while others won’t.

    • @jos9569
      @jos9569 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LindsHandmadeDesigns It was set at 100%. I reprinted making sure that Autorotate was selected, that seems to be the trick. Thanks.
