Please do more tutorials. You are amazing. Best tutorial I've ever used. I love that you don't have background music while you are talking. You don't oversimplify but are clear and precise. I purchased the pattern and am now watching the tutorial a few times before I tackle my first Mav Pack. Thank you. I am looking forward to more tutorials from you
I just bought the acrylic templates for all three sizes, I already had your pattern from the first week but after 5 bags......I was like I need the acrylics.......every young lady in my life will have a new personalized bag, thanks to your fun make of the Mav Pack.
Terrific tutorial! The written PDF pattern is terrific but watching you tackle some of the trickier steps is always super helpful! And I loved seeing all the tester bags at the end!
OH........I think I just messed mine up........I am at the point of putting on last 2 pcs, the lining and back panel..........But I have already put in the lining with the pocket.......yikes.....Can I make a 2nd pocket, because this is where we feed it thru, .........yikes......ok I need a break..........Not sure why I put the zipper pc of lining first
Absolutely LOVE your method of making this! I am so happy not to do binding!!! For quite awhile I have been changing any pattern that has binding to this method for the backpacks I have been making ! So happy that you did too! I think that binding makes the bag so homemade and will avoid buying a pattern that has it or adapt it to this method! Thank you!
Omg! I just finished one. It took me a minute to make. But its just too stinking cute!!!! Now i have to try making a clear vinyl one (currently obsessed with clear vinyl but someone said to make it with regular fabric first and then the clear.) So excited!!!!
Yes! I’m glad you tried it the original way first. Clear vinyl is so simple comparatively! I have some tips saved in a highlight reel on my Instagram (Lindshandmade) if you need any additional help for the clear version.
Love your tutorial! I'm making a custom backpack and using your tips!! I don't have time for class or know anyone to teach me. Glad I found your videos!
Love it! Thank you for this great pattern and tutorial. Just ordered my copy and cannot wait to get started. Gonna make a few of these for a few gals and one for me of course. Thanks again!
Awesome tutorial! I bought the pattern 4 days ago and also some absolutely beautiful "Cut and Sew" panels from K&A Custom Fabrics in vinyl. Now I'm scared to ruin them so I'm going to practice on some butt ugly fabric that I've had for over 10 years lol. Thank you so much for the pattern and tutorial!
What a super cute bag!!!! Best video ever. Love the part “pray for me” ha ha ha then the baby at the end makes my heart just melt and all the pics of those cutie patooties!!!!! Well done! I am wishing very hard for binding though!
Thank you! The plan was to show how to bind it in the video but after my own personal experience with it and not liking it AT ALL I decided against it. It’s easy enough to do though. Give it a try. Do the gusset as written, then just put the main body exteriors wrong sides against the main body liners, baste each set as one and sew the gusset on. Add your binding, turn, and done.
Beautiful bag. Looks a little intimidating but I think I can do it. BTW, little tip on the double sided tape. If you take you nail (or anything hard like the pen top) and run it really hard on the ends of the tape, it makes it much easier to pull apart.
I made the water bottle bag and I didn’t think I could, but bc of your detailed down to earth videos I feel confident I can make this. I’m gonna make me and my sons some bags. 💓🫶🏽
Your video is excellent I’m going to give it a try my only problem is my hand osteoarthritis is severe n may need to do at retreat to get help w turning etc Another excuse for retreat not that I need one
Very cute pattern. My first attempt was not too bad. But girrrrl, turning through that itty bitty hole. You need young nimble fingers for that! 😄 Not crazy arthritic ones like mine. Maybe I'll bind the next one. I'm a quilter so have plenty of binding experience. You're a very good teacher. I really like your video a lot!
Ha ha! I know what you mean. I also know a lot of my customers LOATHE binding and since that is the easier option, I wrote it this way (and actually the way I still prefer to do it, even in all vinyl 😅) knowing those that prefer binding could very easily go that route. Thank you!
Thank you! I give all the details of what I’m using in this video in the description box below the video if you wanna check that out. It’s a juki TL 2000qi.
Hi there! So I’ve purchased the pattern, watched the video but haven’t cut out yet. Having bought some solid vinyl enough to make a few different Mavs, now I have a question about edge painting. What is used for this? I do have some acrylic paint leftover from my folk art painting days ( many moons ago), can I use this. If I recall, it’s permanent paint. At least it didn’t come off my clothes when I left it to dry unfortunately 😊
Edge painting isn’t really required for this pattern. It’s only used on the strap accents if you choose to do so (mainly if the backside of your vinyl/leather is white and you don’t like the look of that showing on the sides). For that purpose your acrylic paints should work just fine to blend the edges. For a true edge coat though you’d want to stick with a product specifically designed for that purpose like leather edge paint.
i have a customer who would like this but wants it with a handle instead of a strap. Do you think that would work? How - or where - would I do that? Could you suggest a way?
If you click “read” more under the description of the listing and scroll to “specs” it mentions how the finished pack is approximately 6” wide by 7 1/2” tall and is 2 1/2” deep
It won’t give it enough “oomph” in my opinion. You’ll see all your bags contents popping through with all they’re edges and it won’t hold its shape very well. 😕
someone please explain. in the supplies list, it says 12" zipper #5 ( or 10.25" of zipper by the yard and matching pull) is the smaller zipper a #3 zipper...or what?
Thank you! I give all the details of what I’m using in this video in the description box below the video if you wanna check that out. It’s a juki TL 2000qi.
My first question would be to make sure all your pieces printed correctly? Are they measuring the same as the measurements stated on the pattern pieces?
Awesome tutorial!! I just made two of your Andie bags and they came out so perfect! Wondering what type of fabric you are using in this video? Love your patterns ❤
I don’t recall what my needle was at the time, definitely a universal needle but I couldn’t tell you the size. I’m using tex 45 thread in this machine in both the bobbin and top. I always recommend using the thickest thread your domestic machine can handle
It *can* I’ve made quite a few in faux leather and even all leather but I do really suggest trying your first one in quilting cotton first so you can see how it feels turning
HELP!!!!! I love EVERYTHING that you make Linds, but the one thing that holds me back is, living in the U.K there just isn't anywhere to buy those fabulous bright fabrics, zips, pulls and strapping you show in the video and photos. If anyone is reading this who also lives in Great Briton, and knows where to source these items, please please PLEASE leave a link or comment. The help would be much appreciated.
If I’m working with leather or a vinyl that has a suede like backing, I use Ecoweld waterbased leather adhesive from Tandy leather. Otherwise I don’t feel like a lot of vinyls or corks respond well to glue and prefer double sided leather tape I get from wawak.
What does decoville stabilizer feel like? I have something that doesn’t have a label on it but not sure if that is what it is…uhh should have labeled it😢
It’s an off white color. That’s the easiest way I can tell it apart from other stabilizers that are typically white or black. Decovil heavy is very firm, decovil light is not as firm.
Do you have a picture of the woven interfacing stabilizer you are talking about? I don’t know where to get that or what it even feels like. I have my Deville.
Hi! I hope anyone can help me out. I am just on the straps process, but I don't see where it says how long should the long part be...I have probably missed it trying to do it as fast as possible. My deadline is in a couple of days as I am making some bags for my daughters as a gift 😅😅😅
If it’s for a young girl, I’d recommend cutting the strap much smaller. Maybe start with 40” and cut 6” off for the shorter piece. (For reference I cut my 2 yr old’s strap 33” and it fully adjusts to fit me as well)
Thank you ever so much! I was panicking because I didn't see how long it should have been, and I didn't remember where could I see the measures, but you were really helpful. I have already finished my bags for my daughters and everyone is giving me compliments about how nice they are! Thank you ever so much! I wouldn't have been able to finish them without the video tutorial

Thank you so much! That’s really encouraging to hear because doing these tutorials are a LOT of work. I’m glad you find them helpful.
Love the video, and so glad it is finished without binding. Finished bags, without binding, look more professional.
Thank you!! Thank you for being real! “Pray for me” I absolutely love it!! Now pray for me as I begin this project!!!
🤣. You got this!!
I just bought the acrylic templates for all three sizes, I already had your pattern from the first week but after 5 bags......I was like I need the acrylics.......every young lady in my life will have a new personalized bag, thanks to your fun make of the Mav Pack.
There’s multiple sizes?
Terrific tutorial! The written PDF pattern is terrific but watching you tackle some of the trickier steps is always super helpful! And I loved seeing all the tester bags at the end!
I love that you say “Pray for me”. ABSOLUTELY
🤣
THAK YOU so much for no using binding!!! Pattern purchased. Anxious to start!!!
Ha ha! People sure are passionate about their hate for binding, that’s for sure 🤣
thank you for having the option of printed pattern we can buy versus the online pattern. Just got my pattern, sooooo excited to start it tomorrow.

I'm glad they are finally popular. I have always worn mine that way to keep it handy and hands free.

Hello - would you mind sharing where you get your hardware? Specifically the makers mark and triangular D rings. Thank you!!
My metal label? I got those a few years ago from a wholesaler on alibaba. As for the triangle rings, those are from wawak.com.
Where do you buy your double sided tape? Just got my pattern!
I usually get mine from wawak.com but I’ve heard amazing things about the stuff from geekyhardware.com too!
Where can we get the pattern? Love the bag😊
Lindshandmade.com 😀
What machine do you use? Mine is absolutely not enjoying working with vinyl 😅
Thank you! I give all the details of what I’m using in this video in the description box below the video if you wanna check that out. It’s a juki TL 2000qi.
I'm confused..when cutting the gusset is it one continuous piece of two separate pcs ..ie do you match the triangles and cut one pc?
Yes join the triangles to create one piece.
Such a cute bag! Studying your video before sewing together. Just curious about your weight of thread? Seems like it's a tex .....
On my domestic is a tex 45 bonded poly. On my industrial it’s a tex 80.
You are Amazing, Where do you get your medal bag tags?
From a wholesale site called Alibaba. I got them a few years ago. Usually the minimum order quantity is at least 100 of the same finish.

Can you use SF101 instead of Devovil light for the main body stabilizer

@@LindsHandmadeDesigns I thought I was out of Decovil light I found some!!!!
someone please explain. in the supplies list, it says 12" zipper #5 ( or 10.25" of zipper by the yard and matching pull) is the smaller zipper a #3 zipper...or what?
No both are #5 zippers. If you aren’t using zipper by the yard, you need to cut down a 12” zipper to 10.25”.
What machine are you using ???you did a great job
Thank you! I give all the details of what I’m using in this video in the description box below the video if you wanna check that out. It’s a juki TL 2000qi.
Hi. I have your pattern but my gusset with zipper and my main pieces do not match when I sewing on. The guesses is to big where did i go wrong.
My first question would be to make sure all your pieces printed correctly? Are they measuring the same as the measurements stated on the pattern pieces?
Curious about what size thread are you using.?
Tex 45
Awesome tutorial!! I just made two of your Andie bags and they came out so perfect!

Thanks! I’m using interfaced quilting cotton for the exterior and liner to keep it beginner friendly.
Thanks!!! Which Juki model is that?
I give all those details in the description box below the video. It’s the juki TL 2000qi.
I’d like to know what kind of needle that you’re using and also thread what’s the weight of the thread

Can it be made of faux leather/vinyl? Or would it be too hard to turn? I love this bag and have been looking for something like this.😊
It *can* I’ve made quite a few in faux leather and even all leather but I do really suggest trying your first one in quilting cotton first so you can see how it feels turning
I had the exact same question! Thanks Mary 😊
Linds, what sewing machine are you using. I am unable to make these on my Babylock Espire. Thank you!
This is my domestic juki TL 2000qi
Preciosa!! ❤❤❤❤😘👍🌹
Gracias! ☺️
Can fusible fleece be used instead of decovil light,as we don't have decovil in South Africa.
Yes!
How long did you make your son's strap?
33” and since it’s fully adjustable, it even fits my 11 year old.
Love the bag. Can this be made on a domestic machine?
I sewed the entire thing on my domestic juki in this video.
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns Oh great!! I saw your Juki and assumed it was industrial.
Can you top stitch the front if you use binding??
No. There wouldn’t really be a need to topstitch if you plan to bind it.
How long do you make the crossbody for a 3 year old? TIA
33”. That tightens enough to fit my 2 year old and fully extends to fit me ☺️
I love this! Where did you get that star zipper pull? 😍
Doh! I’ll have to add that to the video description. I got it from Zipper Valley 😍

It was just suggested bloomingfabricshop.com when someone from the UK asked this question in our Fb group.
I have had some success with Temu. No complaints re quality just size. Worth a look. Delivery pretty good

ypu go really fast on the turning part and I am having troubles turning my bag
It will initially turn with the lining face out (so inside out) and you then just flip the whole thing so the exterior is face out as it should.
