    Although this game had the worst sales of three ps1 greats, it's still highly regarded among the fandom. With its triumphant return to the medieval fantasy roots, as well as some of the most beloved characters in the entire franchise, FF9 serves as a love letter to its predecessors. Let's dive deep as we patiently wait to hear more about the potential remake right over the horizon.

    I remember only being able to get 99 on the swordfight minigame when my sister wanted to try and get the moonstone. My Dad had just got home from work and offered to help, we each held the controller in one hand. He did the directional inputs and I did the button inputs so we could each focus on one task. We got a perfect score our first try. Good memories, except for the fact that my sister didn't talk to the queen to get the item lmao

    Thoughts about Necron:
    So at the Eidolon wall there's speculation that Eidolons are manifested from beliefs, emotion, etc. Maybe Necron is the game's way of answering the Eidolon creation questions? Perhaps Kuja's belief that something would hear his dying breath created an Eidolon that heard this, but whose qualities would be reflective of a powerful man dying?

      @EndanDrachon ปีที่แล้ว +24

      I always think of it like this: As a character, Necron is very poor as a last boss/antagonist as he comes out of nowhere in that sense. As a thematic end to the main story theme and conflicts however, he is excellent. It really depends on what you're looking at him as that determines how you feel about them, which helps explain why there are more people that like or dislike him than people who are more neutral about him.

      How did it save your life? Where you getting bullied or something? I don't see how playing video games would help you with that. In fact, nerds are typically the target of bullying. High school was great for me, I still remember it fondly. We had this wierd guy who everybody picked on, so no one really wanted to bully anybody else since it was so much fun doing it to this guy. He barley had any neck, and looked super wierd. He also had these strange hobbies alegedely, so we made fun of him because of that as well - in retrospect I'm not even sure if he really enjoyed doing those things for real. We used to make up a lot of strange stuff about him, but I bet most of it was true anyways because he was so weird. Damn I really miss high school man.

    Am I the only one who ever noticed that the Final Fantasy 1 game referred to their world as Terra while the rest up to 9 called it Gaia. Then in 9 we actually have the return of Garland and the 4 fiends a long with a trip from Gaia to Terra. I swear I always believed this was more than just some call back. It has the Crystal in it as well which was the focus of the story and Time from FF1 and everything. I always saw it as "This is what eventually became of that world you played in FF1." To see it like that you almost feel heart broken. It would be like playing FF25 and you go from some other world to Gaia if Gaia was never named as the world u r playing on ever since FF9. To see all the stories and adventures u played and then see that in the end Gaia became some husk of a world it once was and the people souless and mute. I guess as an old school FF player who has played these games since they have come out that it just kinda feel nostalgic but sad.

    • @SirJoelsuf1
      @SirJoelsuf1 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      So FF9 is pretty much a direct sequel to 1 but while the time loop in Terra is during FF1 is still going on. What Garland does as a way to not only break the time loop but also maintain it is to make the Iifa tree, which circulates souls from Gaia to Terra. He wanted Kuja to begin that cycle until he turned 25 and then wanted Zidane to continue that cycle...forever, since Zidane IS immortal in FF9. It isn't directly said but it is heavily heavily implied. The Soul Cage thing you fight in the Iifa tree is part of Garland, but the final boss is not. The final boss pretty much just wants to destroy Gaia itself (which Garland does NOT want, he just wanted Terra to assimilate Gaia).
      I think there is a video essay somewhere on here that explains this better than me.

    You could probably have mentioned the secret permanent stat upgrade system involving what equipment you use. How if you use weapons that has stat upgrades, it actually adds that to a secret counter on level up. Once that secret counter hits it's required amount, like 16, it adds an actual permanent upgrade to the stat. That is also why you'd want to level up Marcus so much, but only him, with the best stat upgrading equipment you can, as Eiko would get his secret counter upgrades. This is because if the team is still on a low level when you get Eiko (only leveled Marcus), she will be on a low level too, and she could get the secret stat upgrades for leveling to 99 twice.

    With the current FF writing team and the multiple flops of FF13-1-3 and FF15 and Stranger of paradise (Nobody is talking about these games for their characters.)
    And there are so many videos talking about the failed character writing of all the mentioned games and they're right. I don't want them making a FF9 2
    and I definitely am still on the fence with wanting a remake after the weirdness in the FF7 remake, did it really need the floating cloak ghost? No thank you, leave this gem

    You can feel that Blank was gonna be more relevant, because how he sacrificed himself on the forest, and Zidane was willing to save him, thing that we never did and happened off-screen, maybe the planned for a plot were we have to save him, but never found the opportunity or was scrapped at the end.
    Another thing, yes Kuja stated that the fusion has begun, but i think that is retorically, like he say started because he is doing it, but was stopped at time, or the other possibility, is that Necron gave them a 2nd chance and recreated the crystal, or well that was i think, i don't think developer will just destroy the world without showing off, like they did in FFVI

      Same here but I for one do NOT want to see a full FF9 remake. We saw what happened with the FF7 remake(s) and how it strayed so far from the source material that you may as well call it FF7 Advent Children the game, best believe that will happen with FF9.
      If we DO get an FF9 remake I'd just want to throw in some voice acting among the original gameplay, remove Zidane grabbing Garnet's ass (or keep it then have Garnet slap him or something in response, anything that shows that something like that has consequences), and maybe give Terra its own world map.

    One interesting tidbit about FFIX is how the English translation has received widespread critical acclaim, as the dialogue conveys the game's mature theme in a very simple way without diluting the intent, the naturalistic dialogue between characters leading to natural comedic moments and good character interactions, and the characters like Zidane being capable of expressing sarcasm, as Japan isn't very familiar with the concept of sarcasm in their society. This is due to Squaresoft's localizers working directly with the writers of FFIX, so the game's translation is more accurate than previous games in the series.

    22:00 - The Beach set is meant to be equipped and used in the 21 beaches of the game after doing *everything*
    (challenging everyone at Tetra Master including Fat Chocobo, Mognet, Chocobo's Paradise, Ozma, etc).
    *All characters must have the set equipped* .
    Last piece is obtained via Kupo Nut at Gizamaluke's Grotto. Then you can start beachin':
    > Go to each beach (i.e.: the sandy parts of the map) on chocobo, unmonut, then press Circle next to it.
    The beaches have to be reached with Chocobo for this to work.
    After doing this, with the Beach Set Equipped in every character,
    you can heal the whole party on any beach of the game by pressing Circle.

    I remember that FF7 was introduced me to the FF series as a young child, and I followed it through 8, 9, 10, 11 but 10 really demonstrated how much it connect to my characters. When I learned Tidus wasn’t real-just a dream of some supernatural beings and I didn’t know how that would affect me so badly. I carried on playing for that day but after saving and turning off I never played again. I didn’t get far with FF12 because I didn’t like the way Vaan dreamed of being a sky pirate. Pirates attack innocent people, they steal, kill and kidnap the pilots and crew. They are evil. But while I don’t mind him starting out as a beggar the story seemed to be about Ashe and he was incidental.
    Now, I wanted to play FF13 but I didn’t have the PS3 so I couldn’t play it. I have the PS4 now and I’d still go back to playing it if it were available on PS4. And I play FF14 even to this day. But 15 seems to be just just an all male party which I will never tolerate. My childhood involved a lot of games that I was forced to play as a boy or a man which I hated as a girl. And Lara Croft was just famous for her breasts. The best technology that was ever added into games was the ability to create your character as either.
    But FF9 had a profound impact on me, as shown in my chosen online name.
