Greetings from Norway, great video. I have a 93 2650, 3700 hours, been on the farm since new. Mint condition, no rust, and still doing its sheer of work on the farm, all ploughing and part of field and grass work. 4 years ago I upgraded the tractor with an extra turbo, in a compound setup , gave it some initial timing and maxed out on the fuel pump, with a great result. Can't stop smiling when driving, straight pipe, no smoke, and goes like hell. Best tractor for its era:)
@@AgrimotiveFarmMachinery I have only dyno tested before I adjusted the pump (stock pump), but with the two turbo setup. 78 HP, 649 NM at 845 RPM, PTO HP. I've missed out on the yearly dyno chairity event, but hopefully next year. Been to bisy with the farm and family😅 At first I just maxed the pump, and then tested the tractor for a harvest, but when I adjusted the pump for about 2,5-3 degrees earlier timing, then the engine really came to life. When I put the JD on the slurry mixer, it compares to a newer 130 HP tractor, so I'm qurious what numbers it puts out. I found your channel on FB, I can send you some pictures there?
@AgrimotiveFarmMachinery I'm hoping to get time after Christmas to take the cab off, lift the top cover off and fit new seals on the lift cylinder and valves. Then split it and do the rear crank seal. Hopefully that's the last of it. But ive said that too many times.
I have a 1750 that dad bought new that has no 3pl and power steering failing. Its been parked in the shed for about 3 years but its finally time to split and have a look. Also have an 1850 dad also bought new that I did an engine rebuild on last year and its back working on the farm.
Brilliant allround tractor , have 3050 (50k if flat road), 3350 ( front pto and HL) . Probably close to 50k hours between two of them. Spend winter on a straw chopper and diet feeder. Great video
Thanks again for the channel and all the great video's. I'm with you on the the John Deere tractors. I would happily work on any John Deere 30,40 and 50 series tractors and sell them. I would love to lay my hands on a 1750 or 1950 John Deere to renovate
3140 was my first love. Then 3350, and a 4650.. 4955 and 4960, also a 4760. These were my start career tractors here in NZ. The front wheel lean was unreal for turning radius.
I did a couple of seasons on a 3650 in 96/97 pulling a Quadrant big baler. It must've been tweaked because it pulled it no problem against a new 6900 and identical baler. Loved driving the 36, even had a carphone before we had mobiles! Good days. My dad also had a 3140 4wd from new when he was head driver on the farm which he subsequently bought when he set up on his own. I know he has fond memories of that tractor. Great video thanks.
@1978chriswright Yes a lot of the 3650 were tweaked a bit for big jobs. We had one traded in once that was on a JF 1100 harvester. It Dyno tested at 170 hp 🤣
Fantastic video, loved the 50 series , neighbour bought a new 3050 when i was a child, would of given a limb to sit in it never mind drive it! Driven a 28 and 26 since and still love them ,looking forward to restoration!!
Hello, from Poland. I've bought a 1990 3650 last december, it's our main tractor on our small farm, in 10 months it's done probably about 250-300 hours. I'm truly amazed how nimble and yet powerful the tractor is, i'd call it a pocket rocket in comparison with tractors more popular ( aka ursus 1224 or the zetor 12145/245)in my area. The SG2 is very comfortable cab, althou after 10+hours you get a bit tired. I can't say anything more about it because i'm still learning about the tractor, i think it's a nice, comfortable and powerful, i'm hopeful that it's gonna serv well on our farm. Had a problem with worn bearing on both front king pins, but the repair was quite easy. I should also mention that it's equiped with front loader. 36 was imported to Poland in 2006 and the loader was put on it. i'm it's third owner in Poland
I bought 2850 few weeks back, probably the top of the line model back then. Cosmetically on bad side, but mechanically i didn't find any flaws yet. Hopefully it will serve me good :)
Thanks for a great video, Alan. They are my favourite tractors as well. Our first 4wd JD was a 1991 2850 with SG2, 30k standard lift. The engine had great guts for a 4cyl. Her final downfall was 3F Kverneland reversible that eventually pulled the upper lift arms right out of the backend. We maybe should've specced the HL.....🤦♂️
@robertmacintyre8065 That sounds nasty. I can't say I've ever seen that happening one. Yes, I'm a high lift model might have been a better option. However I have ploughed with KV 3f loads with standard lift 2140, 2850 2wd etc.. Never had any issues. Thanks for watching 👍
Great video, wonderful stuff. You make them come to life again. Can I be awkward and say the front axle had a limited slip diff, not a " fully locking" front axle. MF and Fiat had a fully locking front diff. MF called it "Auto Lock". Supplied by Dyneer Corporation. Also called a "no spin diff" or Detroit Locker. Owned by Eaton today ( I think)
Thanks for that.. Of course, you are 100% correct. They have limited slip diff on most models. However, in the John Deere workshop manuals and parts manuals, they list them as "self locking differentials." Not worded the best. Thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it 👍
Great video Alan, if I could add two tractors to my Massey Ferguson I own, one would be an International World series and the third would be a JD 6 pot 2 wheel drive with an SG2 cab, just iconic machines, all the best Dave 🙂

Another good run down. 3350s often took over from 4080 Chamberlains here, 4080s ended in 1984 and the green Chamberlains were not much chop. We kept our 4080s going though. There weren’t many 3650s, that I saw anyway, as most potential buyers of them went straight to the US 50s. The 3650 was a very nice unit though. According to the ‘Bible’ ‘Talking Tractors’, owners rated the engine ( the Sarin 6/358T) in the 3650 very highly but in the Chamberlain 4480 the same motor was rated poorly. They did have problems too. The difference in rating said a lot about the respective owners though. JD owners looked after their tractor, the average Chamberlain owner was very rough. The SG cabs here would mostly have very little rust in them I would think. I have re-lined two Chamberlain cabs here using the old perforated vinyl as a pattern ( pulled off the foam) on new lining material which you can get on a roll. You have to have the old vinyl though which most people would have thrown away. It is the foam that gives way. It is not a big job and the result is very satisfying. They were very good tractors but the US 50s were better. Rated very highly in the Kondinnin Group book ‘Talking Tractors’ which was a publication based on surveys sent in by tractor owners describing their experience with their tractors. Warts and all assessments. No other manufacturer could get near the US ones here and our market is very tough on machinery. Very hard to kill a US 50. Jeff
I am well jealous of you work on the JD over in MFM. Driveing them at 16 would have been better than forbidden fruit😂. My brother had a 3050 we purchased from John Connaty it was a good tractor, he ran it along a Renault 106-54. he had a veg and cereal farm over in Duleek. SG2 cab was the business if I can remember. It dropped a valve about 5 years ago and grenades the engine, punched through the piston top, broke the piston and the liner, sucked the wreckage into the next two cylinders , etc. Parked up over since. Bought an engine last week, so hopefully back to life soon.

Hello alan, i have a 1993 3650, love it, bought it in uk in 2006. Hydralics much faster than 3350. So 3350 had 44 litres per min, i would love to know what litres per minute is 3650 delivering ? Had loader on 3350 and when changed over to 36 the it would lift so much quicker, great video thanks
Thanks..They both had the exact same hydraulic output from the factory... The 3650 was standard with high lift and assist rams for the rear linkage, it was optional on the 3350. The hydraulic pump output of 44.5 lts/pm was the same though. Thanks for watching 👍
@DB--fr6rz There was obviously an issue with one of them. The steering should definitely be the same in both of them. It's possible someone adjusted the relief valve at the front pump on one of them.
Another class video. I drew in silage with a john deere 3040 two wheel drive back in the 80s, it was a beauty to drive, a friend of mine in Kilkenny bought a 1992 3650 and has done it up like it just came out of the showroom
Good one today Alan. You obviously cut your teeth on the 50 series. Never had any experience with them but they seem to have laid a decent foundation for john deere in ireland. Like most makes, they all have their problems but when you know how to fix them you're half way there 👍
I know nothing about mechanics but that seemed like a great idea to have the jets spraying oil onto the pistons as they worked. Did this continue with engines into the future?.
I see two other TH-camrs have had different experiences with old 3650s. Grassmen got one somewhere in the south of this country I think. It was a bit of lemon, appeared to have a lot of work done with little maintenance, and broke their hearts trying to get it right. Gerry6420 on the other hand, got one in from an arable area of France, and had no real surprises while bringing it back to showroom condition.
@dellhell8842 Yes, I've watched both of them. Grassmen did have bad luck with theirs, and they did have it apart a few times. I just don't think they had the right man with the right JD experience working on it, to be honest. Gerry made a lovely job of his one. I'm looking forward to seeing how Finnegans two come out when finished. Thanks for watching 👍
Worked for a neighbouring farmer in late 70s. He had a 3130 which was bought second hand from Sherrards. Bought a second 3130 new in 78 which wasn't a tractor at all in comparison.
@AgrimotiveFarmMachinery It didn't have the get up and go of the other one. Maybe I'm being unfair with comparison as the other was a great machine and I am not a JD fan by any means.
@gerardcallan5655 I bet if you went to it when it had a few thousand hours on it, it would have loosened up. It was pretty typical of new ones to be a bit lack lustre until they were beded in.
@AgrimotiveFarmMachinery Maybe that's true. If I remember correctly it had a head gasket change after a few months, don't know why, but I think it was a recall type thing.
Enjoy vid, I haven't driven too many JD, first one was at my twin brother boss farm 3130 S2G cab, i think at ag college JD 3650? with S2G cab, nice six with easy gearbox levers, yes getting in out was unusual but tractor could pull big set disc.
@@AgrimotiveFarmMachinery There were two different lines one was old European line, the other was new line with 3130 for outside northern American market. 3130 was manufactured at Mannheim it first came with OPU cab until 81 with SG2 cab with models over 60hp. It was rare JD as my brother told me.
@JimmyShields-z2h That's highly unusual. The 3130 was indeed manufactured in Mannheim from 1973, but production ceased in 1979 when the 40 series was introduced. The Mannheim built 3130 was marketed as a 2840 in North America. European models were initially available with a Duncan cab, but when the model was up dated in 1975, it was available with the OPU cab. I've never seen or heard of a 3130 post 1979 build, let alone one with an SG2 cab. Interesting, I must look into it further. 👍

Interesting video. I have read somewhere that they had to make a 2 door sg2 cab for some country due to safety regulations. I have a 1991 3350 narrow step high lift appears to be factory fitted turbo with electric lift. A lad who knows more about john deere that me reckons this is all wrong. What do you think?
@paullynch9098 The only 3350's that came from the factory with turbos on them were for high altitude markets, certainly not Europe. So unless it was imported from far afield, it's highly unlikely to be a factory turbo. Some lads took full kits off a 3650 and changed them over that would lead you to believe it was factory fit. The prohytronic lift came in around 1991/1992 on the 3350. Would be unusual to see one on a narrow step model, but not impossible if it was an import. Thanks for watching 👍
We had a 2650 that we bought when it was 3 yrs old . We got it Dynod on the day of collection. 91hp at the PTO !!!!. It was much better than the 2040S that we had . My dad said the “S” stood for sh1t. The most unreliable tractor we ever had . The 3040 we had was a terrific machine though .

OK thanks for reply, just puzzling how hydraulics is so much faster then,, even steering turns much quicker !
@DB--fr6rz There was obviously an issue with one of them. The steering should definitely be the same in both of them. It's possible someone adjusted the relief valve at the front pump on one of them.
Love video. Doing up 3050 at minute
@@DjDj-ww6rh Very good.
Have you much to do to it?
Another class video. I drew in silage with a john deere 3040 two wheel drive back in the 80s, it was a beauty to drive, a friend of mine in Kilkenny bought a 1992 3650 and has done it up like it just came out of the showroom
@davidbrennan3613 That's excellent. A lot of 3650 are getting great attention these days. Good to see it.. Thanks for watching 👍
Good one today Alan. You obviously cut your teeth on the 50 series. Never had any experience with them but they seem to have laid a decent foundation for john deere in ireland. Like most makes, they all have their problems but when you know how to fix them you're half way there 👍
@eamondempsey3018 They put JD on the map in Ireland for sure Eamon.. I've around them.long enough now, I'd want to know a bit about them 🤣 Thanks 👍
@@AgrimotiveFarmMachinery John Deere Alan 😅
I know nothing about mechanics but that seemed like a great idea to have the jets spraying oil onto the pistons as they worked. Did this continue with engines into the future?.
@martymartin2894 Yes, most diesel and petrol engines would have this now. Thanks for watching 👍
Great stuff as always . What happened part 2 on deutz ?
@@theghostofcornpop4175 It's in the making.. I'll have it out in 2 weeks. Thanks for watching 👍
@@gerardcallan5655 That's interesting.. How did it not compare?
@JimmyShields-z2h Thanks Jimmy. The 3130 never came with an SG2 cab, perhaps it was a 3140? Thanks for watching 👍

@@JimmyShields-z2h Thanks, I'll be sure to look it up 👍
Interesting video.
@AgrimotiveFarmMachinery yes it was a uk tractor. Serial number notes it as 3350 S
@johnf2020 The 2650 we had was something similar, around 90hp. And it done 30MPH 🤣 Thanks for watching 👍
i like john deere and ford county
