Brian I've taken two long trips on my FJR. The first was close to 6000 miles, and the second was nearly 8000 miles. I made two modifications to my FJR, that made a significant difference to traveling comfort. The first was bar risers. I was amazed at how the bar risers changed the bike's character. It was a big improvement in comfort, because the risers raised the bars, about two inches, and brought them back, about the same amount. Also the bars were moved out slightly. Much easier to steer, and more comfortable. Also I replaced the saddle with a Sargent saddle. It's harder than the stock seat, but oddly enough, with the better contouring of the Sargent saddle, and being less mushy, it is so much more comfortable. I rode 952 miles, in one day.

Thank you for that. My previous bike had bar risers and I will get them eventually for this bike. As for the seat, they are very expensive for my budget right now with three kids but I definitely want to replace the seat.

Quick question, I'm 5 foot 8, and considering this bike, anyone at my height have experiences of riding this bike? Thanks

    • @Jagshemasher
      @Jagshemasher ปีที่แล้ว

@@jackbao1231 I'm 5 - 9. It's not a problem but you will likely need to one foot your stops. The seat is not actually that high (I have the Yamaha comfort seat on mine) but it is wide so reaching the ground it a bit more of a stretch than you think. Once you are moving it is a very easy bike to control and very easy to ride at slow speed - very smooth with good fueling. You can look up a review done by the Missenden Flyer . . .he's 5'-8"

I have similar tastes . I'm thinking on trading in my Tracer Gt 900 on this exact bike. I have owned every kind of bike under the sun. I'm 54 and have been doing this for 35 years. Thanks for the mature and informative video. You ride safe. Your welcome in Essex Ontario Canada. Near Detroit.

I have a Tracer GT myself and am considering the move. I had a Concours and would have bought a new one yesterday, but no cruise control! I will never have another bike without electronic cruise control again. A fried has one of the first FJR's available. And I remember thinking that it sounded like a turbine engine when it spooled up. So smooth.

Great review and congrats on the new bike. I recommend wearing gloves too, and even motorcycle pants. Your hands are the most important tools of your body. I just purchased a 2020 FJR too. Greetings from a Belgian motorcyclist. Ride safe.

Thanks, I will admit normally I wear riding pants and gloves, but I have taken a ride or two without them That's why I don't call them my necessary. But they are by far used most of times.

Respectfully. Gloves and armour clothing, including pants are very necessary. Points of contact. Whether holding onto the bars or falling to the ground. Gear up or go home. The best you can afford of all elements too. Ride safe and ride often. Peace.

I wear everything and never crashed... on new years day I went to ride it to my new house about a mile distance. The tires were cold and I crashed, hadn't bothered to put anything on but helmet and gloves. Rubbed holes into my ankle and knee and trashed my bike.

Great video. After 15 years of wanting a FJR1300 my new 2020 sits in a crate and will be waiting for me to pick it up this week.
I have had dozens of sport bikes as well as a GL1800 Goldwing. The FJR1300 is going to be a nice compromise.

I totally agree with with you and your precautionary way of riding. No one wants to be a statistic. I owned a 2004 till last may when I bought a 2021 FJR. Being 6’-2” myself, I loved my Busa but truly adore this FJR. I look forward to replacing the windscreen as well for better riding comfort. As for the colour, yeah, it’s lacking some boldness. All in all, it’s an awesome bike. Thank you for the down to earth revue. Stay safe, we have little people at home who need us. 🙏🏻

I have a 2013 FJR1300a, Brian. When I bought it, it had 2832 miles on the odometer. Now I have nearly 53,000 miles on my machine. I'm sixty years old, and have been riding a motorcycle for forty-two years. I have two secrets, to being safe while riding. #1. Ride as if everyone is out to run into you. #2. LIGHTING.... Put some bright driving lights on the front of your bike, and mount them low, so you can have them on, all the time. The secret is to be seen.

I'm shopping for a 2013+, I found your videos the other day and I'm obviously watching them out of order. I'm about 10 years older, and been off the bike about 10 years longer. Picked up a 5th gen VFR in January and I ride nearly every day. I'm looking at the FJR so I can take my wife with me more comfortably for both of us. I'm just having trouble with pandemic pricing so may have to wait a little longer. Helmet, jacket and gloves are the bare minimum. My hands have been hit by bugs and rocks, they are important.

G’day from down under. Congratulations on the purchase. I have the 2019 model which is pretty much exactly the same as what you have. Once you get some miles on the bike and after the first oil change it just gets even better. I have the taller touring windscreen as well but I find I reinstall the standard windscreen in the warmer summer months. Definitely try Sport mode, especially when you get into the twisties it’s just exhilarating. I find I leave the bike in sport mode pretty much all of the time. Cruise control is awesome, especially on those long freeway and highway sections of road. If there is a criticism I have it’s the stock seat. It’s not the most comfortable on a long ride, there are plenty of other options out there for upgrading your seat. I have the genuine Yamaha comfort seat which is great but there are plenty of other custom seats around. If you are looking to mount your phone or GPS unit, RAM mounts make a great selection. Best of all, enjoy the bike!

I have a 2015 and love it..Doesn't have electronic suspension or 6 speeds but it's just fine (wouldn't mind a 6th gear but I'm used to it)....and oh by the way they redline at 9000 or so not 8000..They make peak horsepower around 8000 and peak torque about 6800. I'm 68 and it is a little top heavy at a stop but as you said once moving it goes away...I'm 6ft and can barely put my feet flat on the ground due to wide seat...I had a 2001 Concours and loved that bike but the wife and I outgrew it and I got a ValkyrieTourer..After the wife passed I didn't need the huge bike so looked at newer Concours but no cruise control plus goofy VVT system that makes for slow top gear roll ons compared to FJR plus maintenance on the Concours is alot more time consuming due to access through the body work and valve checks at 15000 compared to 26600 on FJR...Done deal.... Got the FJR with Yosh R77 slip-ons (50 state legal with just enough sound) Power commander and K&N filter...Dynoed at 134hp and 90lbs at wheel so plenty of fun power (stock they're about 127hp and 88lbs so not much difference except for getting rid of EPA flat spot between 3600 and 5000rpm..You're going to love it when you go on longer rides and it ain't no slouch in the twisties... Check the screws that hold the locks on the bags..They apparently didn't use locktight and I had one come loose and luckily noticed it while filling the bag...If lock comes loose you can lose a bag...Others have reported this on Internet...Expensive bummer....Engine and rear drive oil changes are super easy...Access to air filter isn't too bad...Once you start using "Sport" mode you'll never go back to "Touring" mode. The response is still very predictable in "Sport" mode and with the traction control on you're not going to spin tire or wheelie...Welcome back to two wheels and I'm sure you'll feel right at home in very short order..Enjoy!

This is exactly what I wanted to find when I searched for FJR1300 information. You will probably laugh at this but after watching two of your videos I was thinking that you have a little bit of Andy Rooney blood in you (Lol). Don't go to 60 minutes with your skill though because they don't deserve it these days Lol! I love that T-Shirt! "Jesus is kind of a big deal" Reminded me of something that Timothy Keller once said describing Jesus as if he were a professor and after three years of classes says "OK class, I want you to know the main thing I've been trying to get across to you all these three years... "It all boils down to one thing.. Do you know who I really am?" ... YES... "Jesus is kind of a big deal" AMEN! I am an Arizona guy but I am in a bad season of my life to buy an FJR.. Maybe in a year .. who knows? Yes I know about the recall.. Still plan to get one .. maybe a 2021 or 2022. Thanks again and tell your son thanks as well for helping get this published.

I commend you on your well thought out and presented video brother as well as your attention to "safety", but the thing that concerned me the most was that in all you said about how long you've been riding and all the different motorcycles you've owned and your emphasis on "safety" you never once mentioned any rider training or anything you've done to improve your riding skills...so in all those years of riding most importantly you have failed yourself and then all the rest of us on the road whether we're on two wheels or four. Your job is to ride safely and after 55 years of riding and teaching motorcycle safety I guarantee if you haven't specifically trained how to ride properly you have developed some unsafe riding habits you aren't even aware of!!! When you proclaim Jesus is kind of a big deal, why do you ignore his teaching? See Matthew 6: And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly!!!

@@AZLetendre In the passage quoted, Jesus described people who proclaimed their faith by praying in public (when they pray standing in synagogues and in the corner of the streets that they may be seen of men) as hypocrites. Proclaiming your faith on YT is a modern equivalent, although arguably worse since you are seen by more men behaving like this than you would do by praying or wearing a virtue-signalling T shirt on a street corner. Jesus wisely urged people to keep their relationship with their father confined to the secrecy of their closet. I was simply pointing out that you love to virtue-signal by publicly proclaiming Jesus as a big deal even though this action represents a loud rejection of his wise teaching!!

I am not a closet Christ follower, but I am also not proclaiming it on the corner as you said. So if I wear a shirt that says I love Jesus, or all I need is Jesus, that shirt is boasting to you?
