Idc what the creator says, GIF stands for "Graphics Interchange Format". We're not talking about the long neck mammals here, maybe then it would be pronounced "Giraffe'cs"

People really should do at least MINIMAL research about all the Black Myth Wukong stuff before speaking about it. When you just regurgitate clickbait headlines as news you sound beyond ignorant.

Pat is crazy hating on that Secret Labyrinth game. I'm a huuuge Pac Man guy and I love seeing him used in weird and creative ways.

I agree. I’m pretty sure I’m older than Pat, I love PacMan and the only reason this game caught my attention is because of PacMan. I will say if it’s good or bad after I played it.

The ABC News footage is pretty amazing. What's even more interesting is that it didn't really go anywhere, and it's very hard to find the segment online now.

Having worked on the DICE Awards (this was years ago before it was called the DICE Awards) I can say with certainty that it's very legit. Each award category had panelists who were all industry professionals associated with that particular category. The original mission of the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences was to produce and promote that awards show. I wish the industry would put more resources into the show and really make that the public-facing awards show that game devs like us deserve. It helps that AIAS is a legit non-profit organization that, while funded by the industry, has no bias toward one company or product over another.

Regarding The Game Awards, the reason why The Game Awards are and have become what they are is because it appears to be what the majority of people want to watch as the viewership has increased every single year and as far as most people are concerned, Geoff has made the awards show sustainable in terms of financially running the show which was one thing that the previous awards show (pre-2014) the Spike Game Awards reportedly weren't which were the more traditional awards show. And when you look at the Academy Awards, the viewership has been in steep decline for the past 20+ years. I do however completely agree that the awards at The Game Awards should have a much higher % of the runtime and less awards should be given away during the pre-show.
1:04:00 and 1:06:55 That's already been proven to have been a gross mistranslation and misinterpretation on what the Black Myth CEO actually said

I don't think Sony cares, as long as there isn't too much loss that can't be written off/mitigated via streaming and foreign incomes, as long as they keep the license.

This is my hardest stance about this: Subscribe to the channel and then, every day, CHECK YOUR SUBSCRIPTIONS TAB FOR NEW VIDEOS.
The algorithm should not be to show you new videos from people you are subscribed to. That's bullshit. I'm already subscribed. I know the fucking video is there. I'll see it when I'm ready. If I'm using the front page I want to see NEW shit from people I'm not subscribed to.

We dont need any awards show for any media. Personally, I don't take the game awards that seriously, but I do enjoy watching them every year. As for the advertisements, I mean the movie awards takes commercial breaks aswell, forced by their network of course. As commercialized as it is, I do enjoy seeing the game announcements at the awards too 🤷‍♂️
It's fun to see what's coming out in the next few years, while celebrating what came out in the last year. I think any awards show is supposed to be for the developers, but for us it just sparks conversation about games.

This was my first TGA to watch and it was fun to me. Brings the same energy as a Nintendo Direct. Awards shows are self-serving anyway, so I don’t take it so seriously.

The thing with AI is it *is* the future. There might be backlash now but kids are growing up with it pushed to the forefront on social media so it won’t be long before Coke can do the same thing and no one gives a shit except people hanging onto the past. And I am staunchly against the practice of replacing creatives with it but it’s just inevitable.

    • @mokajones74

@@goregrindisthebestgenre right this is the bit people don't think about. The best example is Google: we grew up with Google as an open search engine. Now Google is an algorithm that looks for information it thinks you want to see. We know to pick and wade through the confirmation bias because we interacted with the medium before it existed as it does now. Kids have no reason to question Google or anything it shows them as facts.

Oh Alex, it’s like your use of “like” gets worse with each episode. If I take the transcript and run it through a word map I guarantee LIKE is the biggest word in it. Please, PLEEEEEASE, work on your overuse of like every other word at times. It makes this podcast almost unlistenable.

@spockhozzer7207 The completely undeserved hate 😂 it's almost concerning. Y'all gotta calm down, Alex says all the time he leans into his own use of the word "like" **because** it bothers people so much for no real reason. It's no different than saying "uh.." or "aaand" when forming thoughts
