    Only real mini game that really pissed me off was gears and gambits, but the game as a whole is a masterpiece. I thoroughly enjoyed like 95% of the roughly 210 hours I’ve put into it.

      same, but i got lucky and accidentally found a strat for gears and gambits that worked extremely well. basically, i created a 1 cost minion and spammed only that minion. i tried this out of frustration and just wanted to be goofy to relieve my stress over this mini game only to find out that those 1 cost minions completely overwhelmed anything the game threw at me lol

      Omg I'm the same as you @Uhoh_itsAshley. I'm so in love with FF7 original, remake, and rebirth. I've platinumed them multiple times, I've 100% them all to obsessive levels, and I still can't get enough 😅 can't wait for part 3. I love these characters and this world and story so much. As a musician, the soundtracks blow my mind again and again. I'm going to see the FF7 Rebirth symphony in September. Give me all the FF7!! I'm glad you exist and that there are other super fans like me out there ❤

    Agree with you 100 percent. Things can be to much if it gets repetitive and pulls you away. Rebirth has optional content which is perfect because if you do feel it's too much, you can go right back to the story. But I think rebirths side stuff was fully engaging. Even some things that were repetitive, they changed just a little different in areas so that you didn't get bored. Having different chocobos in different areas kept it fresh. And that's just 1 of many examples.

    I loved EVERYTHING about Rebirth. It was so much more than I was expecting.
    That said… I don’t see how you could play it and not spend 70 hours on it and that’s a huge investment of time in modern gaming. Side quests are optional but at the same time all but maybe 5 feel absolutely needed for character growth and interactions.

  • @gogauze
    @gogauze หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Yeah, the series of criticisms you talked about are unbelievably weird to me too.
    In chapter 8, I started working my way through minigame and side-quest completion. I really enjoyed it, but I was ready for a short break after completing most of the things available to me.
    I came back after a few weeks, did some meaty story stuff, and most of the remaining side content at the end of chapter 12.
    Again, I came back a few weeks later and did the rest of my side activities in chapter 13, then checked out for a few months to ocassionally practice combat while leveling my characters to 70 (for max Dynamic difficulty) and materia.
    Finally, after that longer break, I was feeling refreshed and stoked to plow through the endgame.
    I'm in my hard mode playthrough now, and I'm still having a blast.

  • @ClassyCrustatio
    @ClassyCrustatio 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I think it's a combination of a few things.
    1. People are used to DLC. It sounds weird but the devs said specifically they didn't have any DLC plans for rebirth so they could jump right into development for part 3. The Yuffie DLC took them 1 year to make and that was 1 year of resources taken from Rebirth. Because of this anything that would have been traditionally DLC in Rebirth was just included. For instance; Gilgamesh could have 100% been DLC. It was it's own self contained story, with plenty of Side quests, tough boss battles, meaningful rewards, and took hours to complete. In many other games this would have been DLC. Queens Blood could also fall into this category. Players are used to tons of added content being DLC that comes out months or even a year after release. So in their "Imma real gamer and have to do everything." they just wore themselves out because they are used to waiting such a long time for extra content, which leads into;
    2. Trying to 100% everything on a first playthrough. Rebirth was developed to keep you busy for a LONG time. A great example of this is just the shear amount of battle sims there are compared to Remake, and how incredibly tough some of these are. Not to mention all the side quests that you can complete at ANY point in the game, outside of a few times the story locks you out of the world. I'll admit, I tried to 100% everything on my first playthrough, and my first playthrough was 125 hours. The first area alone took me 10 hours to complete. Did I love every minute of it? Yes! (well aside from that one chocobo gliding level with yuffie that took me 3 hours to beat). But in retrospect Rebirth was meant to be played at what ever speed you wanted to take it. If you got bored or fatigued with all the side content, then you could continue the story. You wanted a break from all the seriousness, go fight some mobs to unlock a battle sim that gives you rare materia, or escort a dog to a rebel camp. Don't want to do either of those? Go play Queen's Blood, race some chickens, play knockout, etc. It wasn't like Remake where if you didn't complete everything in that area, that was it, you missed out. (Which was my biggest critique of Remake btw, so I'm so happy they fixed that here). I'm slowly going through my second playthrough with my wife right now and we are halfway through gongaga, and we haven't really done many side quests, just a few here and there, and we are at about 27 hours. My first playthrough I'm pretty sure I was already at like 50. I think it is this weird culture of "I gotta be a real gammer and 100% everything the first try otherwise I'm a newb!" mentality.
    And Lastly,
    3. People just want to complain because the game is so good. It happens with every popular game that isn't traditionally mainstream or what falls in the shooter or sports genre. People will hate on it just because it's not what they think gaming is "supposed to be." It's gatekeeping. They'd call people who like it fake gamers, or "stupid" for liking it, like they are too cool for it. It's an insecurity. They feel that any other game that isn't what they religiously play is liked more, a personal attack on them. There are plenty of games that I don't like, but I don't find something about it to complain about. I just, move on, because I know it has it's fans and that is great for them. But they feel like if someone doesn't like what they like, then that somehow means they look down on them.
    But those are the main reasons I think people are complaining about it.
    In my personal opinion, I think Rebirth has a VERY VERY VERY strong chance of winning GOTY. But that's my opinion, and if that isn't yours, thats okay. I'm not judging you. ("You" as in generaly speaking, not "you" specifically Sector 6)

    It cracks me up when people complain rebirth has too much. Like bro, you don’t HAVE to do it all, do the main story stuff and as little or as much as you want when it comes to world exploration and side quests! I put in at least 120 hours to do it all bc I’m a completionist and genuinely enjoyed like 95 percent of all of it lol great video!!!

    It's a strange time when people are complaining about 'too much'. My personal opinion is that it was really good of the Devs to include so much content, the more I can do in a game, and the longer it takes me, the better the value for me. I only complain if there's too little for the money, exactly like you say.

    I'm not a huge fan of minigames in general, not just the ones in Rebirth, but I made it my goal to platinum the trilogy so I powered through em all. A lot of them were tolerable, I just didn't pace myself properly. But games like chocobo gliding and the frog games really tried my patience. Even the piano wasn't as tough as I thought it was gonna be after I tried it in the demo.
    But overall, I'm one of those guys who thought there was too much going on in the way side content but pace yourself and only try certain things when you're in the mood and the platinum is doable (3 🏆's to go). You'll go crazy otherwise

    As someone with 460 hours in this game, i personally think its amazing. Theres so much optional content for those of us who want it. And those who dont, can just focus on the wonderful story of the game. Is some of the content too brutal? Yeah, some of the Chadley stuff could be a bit easier imo. But again its optional, and no one has to see that aspect of the game, only those of us who wants to. Ive seen people complain that while its optional, you kinda have to do side stuff to get cool materia and fun accessories or SP to upgrade your characters. But you dont need good accessories or a lot of SP if youre just gonna do the story anyway. But yeah, i love rebirth, it has so much to do (if you want to) so many fights both in the story and the side content, it has a bunch of characters with unique playstyles and abilities, its my GOTY, i just wish we had a way to save our materia builds, but other than that, i love this game. the side stuff is actually pretty good imo, most side quests has a unique aspect to them, like the flashlight when looking for the black rope in corel, or bringing back characters from remake and continuing their story without damaging the pacing of the main plot. the stuff that happens in a lot of the quests/intel is also super interesting imo and i think some of it will tie into part 3's side stuff, not main stuff though as that would kinda remove the "optional" aspect of it, if you had to do side stuff in part 2 to understand the plot of part 3. But i could deffo see some of the protorelic plot points, or side quest plots continue in the next game. Rebirth was the reason i bought a ps5 and it was totally worth it imo😁

    Yeah you pretty much summarized how I feel too, extra content is optional and some of it quite tedious but sprinkled around here and there when one feels like doing them, or skipping altogether, best of both worlds, unless one is a completionist, which I am not, don't feel pressurized to do everything possible in my playthroughs, feels stressful too easily.

    Rebirth is huge. But it’s meant to be played for months after you’ve finished the campaign. The problem with Remake was its replay ability in comparison to other FF games. That’s what the super bosses are for. You play these games to get the gear to beat the super bosses.

    Found the best tips for Hard Mode on Gears and Gambits, Fort Condor and the Kid G quests thanks to Death from 4-8 Productions. If you're struggling with those, follow his tips.
    You're right though, everybody should casually come back to play the mini-games and the sidequests, etc. I'm currently playing through Hard Mode right now and I have no issues in playing the sidequests again especially when I want to get all the manuscripts along the way. Heck, leading up to Rebirth, I managed to finish the Hard Modes on Remake and Intermission and about 3 months before Rebirth came out, did I finally manage to beat Weiss. Those to this day are my only Platinum Trophies so I'll take my time with the Rebirth Simulator battles.
    Now, I have a theory of my own that I need to look into but that won't be until after I finish through Nibelheim first...

    The Ubisoft style gameplay loop of find a tower etc etc etc drags the flow of the game down.
    Ive personally had the game since launch and have genuinely had to periodically put the game down for a few weeks play something else and come back to it.

    Thanks so much for this video. Reading some of the ”to much stuff” complains seriously hurts my brain sometimes.
    One misstake I think alot of these players do is that they try to do absolute everything on their first playthrough before finishing the game.
    I don’t get it why some people can just divide the main and side quests in a pace they like. And if they finish the main game before doing all the side quest. So be it, just go for the side quest after finishing the main game.
    Its basically post game content at a point. And honestly, just with games in general. Some side content are more meant for after completing the main story. End game stuff like superbosses that proves a tougher challenge than anything you get through the main quest.

    I've been playing videogames since 1981 on my aunt's Atari system. Yep, I'm old as hell. Rebirth is, hands down, the greatest game I've ever played. I don't understand people that think this game is/has "too much". I'm loving all the expansion to everything in the FF7 world. (Yes, the OG was my favorite game prior to this trilogy.) I mean, to each their own, we don't all have to have the same opinion on a game. But my first playthrough I was just sitting there saying, "MORE, give us more!!! EXPAND THAT LORE! Expand that location!" Upper Junon absolutely blew my mind when I saw it. I didn't mind any of the affinity stuff. Loved most of the minigames. Like you said, I'd rather have the option of more minigames than less. The devs gave us a huge game that will keep us occupied until part 3 comes out. How is that a bad thing????

    I also agree that it’s silly to think of having TOO many mini games. I actually wish there were more optional ones incase you don’t really like Queens Blood that much. Gears and gambits was really really easy once I figure out that I can attack from two different sides. But I agree heating TH-cam play throughs if you really want to watch it but it’s too hard for you to get it whatever in the game

    Alright, so I was one of those people who kinda beelined it to the important plot points and so the only times I got a bit frustrated were in Costa Del Sol where you had to do the mini-games to progress and trying to shoot anything with a controller is hell for me, and the mandatory quests in Corel Prison. I'm planning to go back through and do more exploring soon, but I do think those were the only two times I had a problem with the pacing.

    💯 agree. The massive complaints about “bloat” are so crazy to me. I thought I was crazy for thinking “but. But most of the minigames are optional and the minimum pass requirements are easy to achieve. Why is this so overblown?” I swear people just find anything to complain about.
    You can beeline the story at anytime you CHOOSE to and come back and completely optional content anytime you CHOOSE to. I don’t know why people are forcing themselves to 100% an area completely before moving on if they don’t want to do that.

However the amount of side content (just one.more) I completely forgot about the main story and potentially didn't have the impact I.e temple of ancients. Ending. Rebirth was too much for me, but in a very different sense. I am still suffering from post-game depression, not in a "what do I do with my life now?" way but in that since I finished Rebirth, I haven't managed to _really_ get excited about another game - out already or coming up. Nothing compares to the hype before release and like 95% of the time while playing, everything else pales in comparison. I seriously hope that passes with time lol

    It's in my opinion that people feel the way they do about "too much" in that the side content is more than half of the game. While it is optional, to do 'everything' you DO have to spend 'more' time doing side content than the main story. I'd wager 70% of the game is side content time-wise. I think that's where the disconnect is.

    I quit liking Rebirth immediately when I found out Sephiroth was manipulating Cloud. I suspect that Jenova, NOT Sephiroth, is controlling Cloud, not gonna lie. BUT, I think that Sephiroth IS Jenova and that Jenova is the one RESPONSIBLE for Aerith's death. It took me YEARS to figure that out. It makes Sephiroth way more scary if Jenova is in control though. The Aerith we see is acting very strange by the lake in the CGI cutscene. Aerith isn't there. Jenova/Sephiroth is using Aerith's appearance to manipulate Cloud further. Jenova can take the appearance of those you hate, fear, and love. The scene where Sephiroth says Cloud is a puppet in Advent Children/during the Nibelheim illusion is a twist because Jenova says it.
    Sephiroth is a willing agent to the will of JENOVA. And Sephiroth after acts EXACTLY like Jenova acted against the Cetra.
    Each hint is revealed one after the other in the FFVII Remake and Rebirth games and Advent Children film, strongly hinting that Jenova is physically controlling Sephiroth:
    Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete: All you are is an empty puppet.
    Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: Sorrow. Anger. Regret. Guilt. Nothing but empty words to you. For you are but a puppet-my puppet.
    They say she's a monster, that she can peer inside you, into the very depths of your soul. That she can become those you hate, those you fear and those you love"
    Cloud in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth under Jenova/Sephiroth's control: "Those we hate...those we love, those we fear. Jenova would become anyone to fool her prey."
    Sephiroth did NOT murder Aerith in the church and land a killing strike on her in the Temple of the Ancients. We also know that during the ending scene with Aerith in Rebirth, Cloud starts to hallucinate by the lake in a strange and eerie manner similar to the illusion of Nibelheim from Remake Chapter 2: Fateful Encounters when you're chasing 'Sephiroth' after blowing up the reactor. I suspect that Jenova was exerting most of her energy/effort on controlling Sephiroth. That's why she didn't just take control of Cloud.
    Sephiroth was just driven insane by the belief that he was something more than human, and specifically that the planet was his by right. If you look at how Sephiroth speaks before Nibelheim, and after to me it becomes pretty clear that Sephiroth is gone, and in its place is a corrupted Sephiroth. Sephiroth's miraculous powers come from Jenova. Not just his extraordinary strength, but his ability to control minds, cause hallucinations, and shapeshift. He also inherits Jenova's mission: eradicate all life on the planet and take control of it. In motive and method, they are the same. There's a cut-scene in the Rebirth demo with flashing images between the two of them, highlighting that he is Jenova reborn.
    This is just my opinion.
    I saw Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children {Complete} in theaters in English on February 23rd, 2024 during the premiere including the gameplay footage of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the new interviews about the project. Hoo boy! That movie was something.

    I kinda love that rebirth has SO a much, it may delay my playing the new game + and trying to get my characters to max level 70 and complete all the quests I didn’t get to do before the date. And I’m about to get to the second big date now But I ended up getting careless with doing quests for everyone after I got Aerith to a bright blue smiley. Then only an open world later about, I started noticing that RED XIII was the next to get the blue smilely very soon after Aerith, and not only that, same with Barret! Soon after Red! So Tifa thought is still at green smiley LOL. I’m hopefully still going to be getting Aerith I hope for the big date.
    I have a question-once you beat rebirth completely through, on the new game + second play through, are you able to choose to see all of the other choices for the big date (like could I see Tifas, also Nanaki, and Barrett lol and Yuffie witrout having to get all of them up to blue smileys? Like to do this for all characters would require so many play throughs favoring only one character really until after ch12. I wanted to do Tifa next bc I found out of her scene. But to get Yuffie would be so difficult due to her protorelic quests and her character affinity quests are few are far between and it’s hard to get her up the highest compared to Aerith I think it easiest and Tifa you kinda gotta wait until later in the game to get enough of her side quests. Using the dialogue more selectively I bet can help some in pushing some with the same color smileys into a sort of order incase there are any actual ties.
    Just wanna know how hard or not it will be to see all characters go out on a date with him on the second play through or does it require as many play throughs as there are choices of dates?

      @@052Ryder It's not both.... It is 100% one way. That moment is exactly as it is in the original. Cloud is literally in denial. What happened when Zack died? He forgot Zack even existed, and replaced Zack with himself in all those moments it's was Zack. So when that moment happens, Cloud's brain does something very very similar. His mind protects him. And there are tons of clues and details that support this.
      1. Cloud is the only one with no limit break at the start of the fight.
      2. As it flashes between "silent Cloud" and back, Sephiroth is speaking as if he us responding to what "silent Cloud" is saying. (The Cloud we all say is the OG)
      3. When Aerith joins the fight with Cloud at the end it's in the convergence world. THe party is fighting Sephiroth in the world the game took place in, Zack fights in his world that is being merged into Cloud's world, Cloud/Aerith fight where those worlds are converging. WHich is why all 3 teams are fighting Sephiroth Reborn as he is in all 3 dimensions at once. The Aerith that fights with us, is NOT the Aerith on the alter.
      Cloud's reaction is actually very on point with his history of patterns. They didn't change anything, they did what they did with so many other aspects, they expanded it. They looked at how Cloud handles trauma and asked, "How would Cloud handle this?" And they said, "Like he has in the past, his mind will protect him."

    I just don't feel like the side content, specifically the World Intel objectives, are enjoyable in any sense. Every single thing about it is a slog to get through. Would likely be fine with it if they streamlined the process a bit.
    Too many instances where the game stops the player. Players don't need a progress screen upon completing every WI objective. Especially not when one was just completed a few short minutes ago. Also don't need so much expository dialogue from Chadley as well. At least allow players to move as Chadley speaks. These instances by themselves/spread out are harmless but when we're talking about 20 objectives per zone, it's ridiculous. Ghost of Tsushima is an excellent example imo of a game that has a ridiculous amount of side content but is also purely a joy to engage. In FF7R it's frustrating.
    Also hate the "don't like it then don't do it" argument, as the WI missions leads to (some) good materia that allows players to streamline their party setup and changes up combat. Been awhile since I've played Remake, but still feel like it was a tighter package and players didn't have to engage so much fluff to get similar materia as in 7R.

    I didn't care much for G&G, but tbh, I left it on my first run and then by the time I did my second I just followed a YT guide and did it in no time. Did the same with Glide de Chocobo and Cactuar Crush. I think the only minigame that I actively disliked was the Cait Sith box-throwing. I do not feel there was any filler in Rebirth OR Remake. I think the sewer chapter in Remake served an important purpose, writing-wise: you needed a down chapter, of lower drama, after the Wallmarket chapter but before the destruction of Sector 7. Plus, from a gameplay perspective, it let a player grind for the first time in a long time. The second sewer chapter was admittedly not as fun, but I understand why they did it: they wanted to advocate characters from The Kids Are All Right. I personally hate that story, and do not find Lesley interesting at all. Nonetheless, they chose that objective, and the sewer was the logical place to do it.
    I love the character affinities and meddling you can do. I would argue it’s the best part of Rebirth.
    I did hate Gears and Gambits. It’s not fun and it’s rather hard. We effectively DO have to do the minigames if we want our character level to be high enough to use level 3 limit breaks; I am personally not able to finish some of the hardest battles in the VR, and wonder if it is the limit difference.

      Zack will continue to have some importance, but we were always told he was going to be used to give us a glimpse in to the inner workings of the world of Remake.

    • @ClassyCrustatio
      @ClassyCrustatio 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the ending is very very very misunderstood and it's because the OG is very memorable to so many people, myself included. But the truth is, nothing really changed from the OG. Sure Zack is still out there but so was he in Remake. Zack's storry isn't over, the game makes that clear. What happened was Sephiroth was trying to cause a convergence. He even says so after killing Aerith. "And so it begins, the convergence of worlds." Our party, as well as Zack, prevent this from happening which is why Zack wakes up back in the church. Just like in Part 1 where the worlds were converging and we fought it off. We know this because both worlds had the same tornadoes. Some people slipped through the cracks, like Biggs.
      So it'll be interesting to see who slipped through in part 3.
      The writing is actually very very good. There are tons of subtleties that a lot of people overlook.
      It's very well thought out and expanded upon.

      @enjolraslechimiste 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ClassyCrustatio It is terrible and poorly thought out. There is NO dramatic weight to Aerith's death; they do not even focus on it at all. It's all about a long battle sequence. She may or may not have died ( another universe may have merged in, all a matter of perspective/guessing, no hard evidence, we just see random flashes of mutually exclusive scenes, no way to know if those were objective or perspective shots)). After she "dies", we then immediately see her "alive" in the final battle with Sephiroth. You cannot say her death has dramatic weight if you IMMEDIATELY see her alive again in a combat sequence. The player in NO way feels sadness of a permanent loss if she is immediately playable in combat, and the last scene of the game, literally, is her talking to Cloud. This is completely the opposite of the original game, which let the impact of death sit and give sadness to the player.
      Do not be so condescending as to tell me it is "misunderstood." I understand just fine, I simply have a different opinion.

  • @enjolraslechimiste

    Respectfully, what else do you think is padding in Remake? I did not enjoy chapter 13, which to me comes the closest to being padding. But I think it did have a clear purpose: let Barrett take the lead as a character. I think it wasn't great, but I respect the choice.
    I think chapter 6 also served an important point: SHOW the player exactly what the Midgar plate looks like. SHOW the fact that the slums are beneath you. SHOW the pollution, show that Shinra does so little maintenance that monsters swarm the area. I hated the maze aspect, but I think it had a good, constructive point.
    By contrast, all Rebirth Zack stuff is total filler. Zack stuff literally has ZERO narrative impact. You can even turn off all Zack scenes in the game options. If you removed all Zack scenes, exactly nothing changes in the game's story.

      The sewers were inflated from 2 screens to a massive slog and there wasn't really a justification for it tbh, it dragged hugely.
      The section under the plate with the sun lamps was also just slapped in there to slow us down it felt like, same with the collapsed expressway.
      It just felt that sections were dragged out and inflated massively but there wasn't really anything of substance put in there.
      I would've much rather got to explore more of Midgar, maybe weave in more stuff like chapter 4, where we got to see a new area with new story elements.

    • @enjolraslechimiste
      @enjolraslechimiste 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Sector6UK I do argue on the sun lamps section. I think it added an important sense of scale, physically. We got to SEE the slums beneath us, really appreciate the upper/lower plate. I think that's a little less necessary for you and me, but for a casual person who is a new fan, I think this helps solidify, visually, what an awful place the slums are to have no real sun. Does this argument have validity, or still no?

    • @enjolraslechimiste
      @enjolraslechimiste 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Sector6UK I would argue the 1st sewers were necessary. It gave us a breather from the non-stop action in Wallmarket. You need falling action to give way to rising action (i.e., the train graveyard into plate collapse). I would argue it gave important characterization time for Tifa/Aerith to interact with one another at all. Does that argument have validity, or not really?
      I like the 1st collapsed expressway. Aerith and Cloud were very cute in their dialogue. To me, that's one thing Remake did better than Rebirth: most of the character building dialogue, in Rebirth, feels like it comes from the sidequests (which is fine). I would rather it be integrated into the main story, but it's fine either way, ultimately.

    i fully disagree with what u call padding, only bc it seems to me that what u describe is exactly what Rebirth has. It is not a bad game, but as a remake project it was a tremendous disappointment for many, me included. Good video tho, thanks for sharing!
    EDIT: for example, what do you say about the Cait Sith chapter? an entire whole chapter dedicated to padding, imo

      I'd say that small section with the box throwing is a bit long winded, but thats probably the only section that bothered me tbh.

    I don’t think it was too much. Most of the “extras” were just that. You could pick and choose how much extra curricular activities you wanted. Or just stick to the main story and keep it moving.

    If you're just sticking to the story the game is only about 15 hours. If you're doing a strict story hard mode its closer to 10 hours of content. That 5 hour difference on traversing the overworld is where I think the padding complaints come from. Its very easy to get lost and confused trying to navigate some places. I spent twice as long in Gongaga as I likely needed to and wasted, as in not even doing side content, a solid 20 hours in Cosmo Canyon trying to find my way up to the bridge. I don't feel like this complaint comes from nowhere.
