My kids (10 and 8) and I just finished a play through two weekends ago. I did the voices. They had no idea what was coming. The big death resulted in tears. But we soldiered on and they loved it. A few days later they asked if we could play through it again. I told them they recently remade some of the game. I fired up the Rebirth demo and they went bananas. 😂 The game may be dated, but it’s still captivating new fans.
That's awesome! My 6 yr old loved watching me play Remake a yr ago and CC Reunion last yr and is super excited to see me play Rebirth now, which I got and started today, though not until she got home from school bc she made me promise I wouldn't play it without her. 😅
As someone who has never played a FF game until last month, this game lives up to the hype. I knew nothing about it (except for THAT moment). I'm glad I played this before the remake or rebirth, and am currently working my way through Crisis Core Reunion, which is to say I'm hooked and will be quite busy over the rest of this year getting caught up.
Thank you for not being a "Turn Based Hater". You did the right thing by taking the time to play one of the "Good Final Fantasy Games". Final Fantasy is best when Turn Based.
Crisis Core reunion is SO GOOD! I can't believe I was so late to play it... the story and character stuff is absolutely crucial for any even slight fan of FF7, and the gameplay is amazing....to think it was a PSP game originally, and yet it plays so well even as such a faithful remake is kinda insane.
I played the Original FF7 recently. I never had a Playstation as a Kid and always heard about how great and influential it was. After playing yeah I get it now and now it's one of my favorites.
best part of playing this when it came out. no facebook. instagram or youtube spoilers. so long as you're friends didnt spoil anything. you had no idea what was going to happen. hits different
Exactly. The big moment with Aerith was shocking. It was the first video game I ever played up until that point that made me emotional over fictional characters. It was so heartbreaking. But the story was so compelling and endearing.
I look back at my 10 year old self and just remember how lucky I was to play this. FF7 was probably the single most influential game for me, I played every FF up to 12 but they never hit the same for me. Great walk down memory lane here, the 90s were a great time to be a kid gamer and growing up with the console evolution.
Same here. This came out when I was 11. I got a Playstation for my birthday August 1997. Got two games twisted metal 2 and Soul blade. The following month (September) my mom said I could get another game. I chose final fantasy 7 because of all the hype. Had no idea what I was buying. When I put it in I was blown away by the intro cinematic and then disappointed because I had never played an rpg and was unfamiliar with turn based combat. I was like wtf is this? But then I gave it a chance and was total taken away by the story and the combat grew on me and I finish the game eventually. It took me like a year to finish. Got stuck at the materia keeper for months.
10 yr me seeing the import cover with a blond guy like link and landstalker and a massive sword. I had to ask for a playstation. Memories of ambients, music, characters are so deep-rooted...
I'm pretty much the same. Back then (and now!) I actively avoided MMO's, hated them, and Squeenix lost me at FF12 when they went over to the MMO-style targeting. It was just too foreign. FFX-2 is about as close to "real-time" gaming as I want to get. I just don't have the reflexes for it. I tried FF7R and it has too much distraction, too much flash and sparkle on the screen, it actively obscures showing me what's really going on, action-wise.
Man I got goosebumps from how nostalgic the unboxing made me. I used to sit there and read through that manual at least 20 times a day. Final Fantasy VII is my favorite game of all time and I'm glad to see it getting respect, along with the Remake games
Lol I actually still got the first disc….. let my friend borrow the rest and he moved to New Jersey…….. lol my psone crapped out about fifteen years ago but I got it running on psp right now! Fo free! Roms are dangerous I can now play all the games I wanted as a kid but I am a grown ass man and should be working lol
FF7 came out when I was 12 years old. The margins of my math notebooks were filled with doodles of Cloud's swords, cactuars and chocobos ... This game is so much a part of my youth, it's hard to impress to someone who may not have an equivalent experience
@@ByakuyaKBbruh! So happy people are picking up the OG in 2024. I couldn’t afford rebirth so I started playing the OG again to beat it before buying the game to give me time to save. But, my long distance boyfriend who happens to be a cloud cosplayer bought a second copy and didn’t tell me until a couple days before so it came to my house. All I gotta say is you NEED to get the golden Chocobo, it’s necessary to find good sh!t and beating all the weapons is worth it. Have fun!
Me and my uncle used to play this and FF tactics all the time together when i was growing up. I play it once a year or so. i have our old save and i go back to it to bring me back and its like hes still here. Love the content man! Much love dude
I had just turned 16 when FF7 came out in the US. It was the 1st RPG I had ever played. Even though RPGs are still not my favorite genre of video game, FF7 remains my favorite video game of all time. FF7 couldn't possibly be more nostalgic for me than it is. I am now 42 and have taken 3 days off of work for Rebirth. That's how obsessed I am with anything FF7.
FF7 does contain one of my favorite plot twists ever from a video game. It is one of a select few times where a video game done a fantastic job building up to a moment that makes you look back at the previous 25 hours of the game makes you realize what all of the breadcrumbs leading up to it meant.
The music, the themes, the hilarious mistranslations. It is truly the goat. I play through it about once every 2-3 years in the winter months to curb my depression lol
Pro tip, in the world outside of battles, there is a button (select button on PS1) that will show red arrows over doors and interactable items along with a pointer over your character. Super helpful against the painted backgrounds. Another tip you can change the menu colors beyond the blue/white asthetic (a lot of people don't know about this)
You can acquire this information in the game, but it's missable. There's a building that serves as a small tutorial area, with a talking dog that teaches controls 🐺
Played the original last month and it was one of the most captivating experiences i have ever had in the past 5 years. The praise this game has isn't unfounded. It was a fucking masterpiece 20 years ago and still is now. My absolute favorite is X, but I can't deny how amazing it is.
I bet X was your first one right? I dated a girl who loved X and had never played any of the older ones. X remained her favorite. For me, X was the first one I didn't like. I think it's because of the voices. I don't really like the voices/expressions they write for the characters in general. There's something performative about it to me. Whereas a game like The Last of Us 1 & 2 are amazingly voice-acted and real-acted
@@drownthepoor Almost. My first one was IV! I played on one of those snes emulators for ps2. But when I got to X the voices was a thing that really stook to me, maybe it was because all the games I got to until then were text based only. I admit that the acting is a little goofy in a few places, but for 2001 they did an amazing job
@@drownthepoor FFX has good voice acting. Some funny moments, but that's the whole experience. FFX was the first FF game that had voice acting. Everything prior was text dialogue, a novel experience.
I always used to watch my older brother play these games back in early 2000's but I never saw the fascination until i played them myself. Started in 2010 with FFXIII, and now played near all main entries, IX being my favourite. VII is revolutionary, though, once in a lifetime type game.
OH MY FREAKING GOD!!! After all of these years I just realized!! @ 14:38 when the title screen is in the background its a 7 . Its LITERALLY a 7! I NEVER noticed this!!
7 was my first FF game back in 97. My big brother owned a copy and I would play occasionally but wasn't really into it at first. One day, he came to me and said "I know you've been playing this game..." I thought he was gonna beat my ass 😂 but he continued... "... I need your help with something..." .. if you knew my brother this was HUGE cuz he never asked for help with much of anything... Anyway, we head downstairs to his room and he just hands me the controller. I unpause the game and I'm on what I learned later was the final fight against Sephiroth 😮... So, I ended up beating the game for him 😂 ... This was my introduction into 7 and Final Fantasy/other RPGs as a whole and it's now my favorite game/series of all time. I just recently picked it back up to try to get a platinum trophy before Rebirth comes out... But I missed some key dialog moments and I gotta restart AGAIN cuz Barrett didn't wanna go on a date with me 😂.
lol my first time I was 9 when i played in 1997 and it was my older brothers friends game. He let us borrow his ps1 and ff7 for the weekend and I couldn't get past the first mission in number 1 reactor. lol I couldn't figure out that you need to talk to jesse while leaving to unlock the doors above.
@@GLCDragonsbro same with me(I beat it still) I was running around forever not knowing where to go and almost hated it because of the random battles. Along with MGS it’s my favorite game from when I was young
The barret trophy is all I have left too. Trying to get myself to start another playthrough to get it but I've kinda burnt myself out trying to platinum 7,8 and 10 at the same time
I’ll say when I first played it as a kid that I never grinned in the game but I was insanely op at the end because of not knowing what to do. The game took me over 100 hours( i never played a game that long before then). I remember fighting the worm over in over in the dessert not knowing that I couldn’t beat him. I also never had a guide and wow was I proud of myself when I beat it.
Indeed, a tone about accepting death. A unique game with having the balls to kill the most important character for stopping the ultimate game villain causing the late game apocalypse
FFVII was my first game when I got my PlayStation, and the game holds up really well. I tried playing the remake when it came out, but couldn't get interested. I think I'll try again when the third part comes out and they hopefully release a complete package.
I played it on an old ps1 to completion for the first time when I was 17 in 2012, it still held up really well. I think with so many ways to play it or mod it, people often forget the OG psc release is still gold.
Something about the old games with no voice acting makes it kinda special. It was like reading a book. My mind created voices in my head when reading their dialogues which sounds better than the remale voice acting.
I love love love all the comments from people sharing their experiences with first playing the original FFVII recently. I’m so grateful and happy that all of you have given the game a chance since it is dated, but I see how you all have realized just how endearing and lasting the story was that it’s easy to see past the game’s age as a result. FFVII was the first in the FF series that I played in its entirety, and it was the first video game that felt like a great novel. When I first played it as a teen, I was a big reader, and I have vivid memories of the story being so compelling, not unlike a great novel. I felt emotional connections to the characters and events, and it was so incredibly groundbreaking for its time, because until that point I (as well as most of us!) had no idea that a video game could invoke such feelings. For context, I have been gaming since the Atari 2600. FFVII forever changed what was possible in the gaming format and has been instrumental to modern developers who have been inspired by it. There’s a damn good reason for that. It really is one of the absolute best and most groundbreaking and influential games of all time. It’s been a trip and an honor to have seen gaming evolve to what it is today, I’ve gone from Atari 2600 to PS5 today, just began Rebirth. What a time to be a gamer!! Thank you Square Enix! ✌🏻❤️
Thank you for this review, I know that Colin always says that people should play VII first before the "remakes" since the remakes aren't the same story.
I now consider that remake+rebirth+3rd game (I thinking it was gonna be called reunion but that what crisis core remake was called) is Final fantasy 7-2 similar to X & X-2 and the ff 13 trilogy are
That full Brady Games strategy guide was all about the spoilers. I remember flipping through it at school and there's a straight up shot of someone putting a sword through someone. So that was ruined for me.
FF7 had me because of the Midgar story. No other RPG had such scenery and an interesting urgency in the dark dejected slums. The cute little date with Aeris was the definition of charming and I loved when they sat together in the playground on top of the slide. Despair and grief suddenly after such a nice moment when the plate fell but! Wall Market was enticing and hilarious, and it pushed the social cultural levels of gaming far beyond what came before it. The capstone of gold on top of the journey was the ascent up the ShinRa office tower and the hair raising escape at the end. Nothing before that had ever come close to that glorious 1st disc. I found myself wanting a full game that took place in midgar, an open world adventure with regular people you play as - not the super hero main cast. I’d love to go see the play “Loveless,” ride the trains, and have sort of a GTA style game that took place there. I haven’t played the remake but apparently as in most games, the size and scope of Midgar is more true to life compared to the original game which was condensed and I think I’d love to travel down its streets, or even upwards to its luxury neighborhoods!
I miss physical copies with the manuals and cover art. It added so much to the overall experience. Back when I played it what drew me in was the art, cover and reading the back of the box. digital games don't feel the same as when we got to open up a box and look at the art when we weren't playing. although im enjoying remake and rebirth, FF7 on PS1 just hit different
Final Fantasy 7 saved me from myself. I was a fat kid that always got picked on. This game escaped me from my reality. I learned to appreciate my own father from red 13 story. My first tattoo was red 13 standing like Seto on a cliff. Nothing changed my life like this game did. I cried when i turnted on remake for the 1st time.
This is by far my favorite game of all time. The music, the sound fx, the graphics (for its time), the artwork, the story everything about this game was amazing and ahead of its time. I must have sunk easily over 1000 hrs into this game as a kid.
Final Fantasy 7 came out when I was 15 years old in High school, and it has been my favorite JRPG ever. The story is what makes this game above all other FF's in my opinion, and I've played them all. I still have my original memory cards and all specific save points, and 2 black label CIB's with misprints in my collection. I last replayed this on the Switch in '22 and I loved the speed up feature during battle. It cut the total time in almost half compared to my original time of 59 hours. Can't wait to play the new one.
I played this game when I was 19 years old and didn’t have hardly any nostalgia for it outside of the occasional story beat my dad told me about, and when I finally played it at 19 it was as if the games been with me my whole life, instant nostalgia for something I’d gone 20 years without ever playing and now I know most of the entire soundtrack by heart, look back fondly on the mini games, truly a game that turns you into a kid even now
Thank you for telling the truth about starting with Rebirth! Hearing various reviewers condone starting with what is essentially the fourth game in the series makes me feel actual despair for the people who are about to listen to that outrageously awful advice.
I played this old ass game when cloud released in sm4sh and i had such a good time thinking beforehand it was going to be a huge drag. Turned out i was completely wrong and have never been this hooked to a retro game like this one i completely get why so many people had this nostalgia for it.
Best part of FF7 og/remake is that you can still enjoy og. In a lot of cases a remake would make the original game obsolete but FF7 classic is still SO much fun, and really holds up. Till this date the materia system is still so much fun to mess around with
Anyone who started with remake and is going back to try OG doesn't have to worry because it'll still be very enjoyable, I played remake first 4 years ago before trying og immediately after and loved it so
Agree with this, though sadly the way Square’s marketing Remake they are essentially trying to say (by the end of the trilogy) there is no reason to go back to the OG. So far, if anything, I feel it makes playing the OG even more important while Remake itself adds more depth to many characters and events.
TBH imo remakes are too much anime for me. It just didn't capture the dark and lonely atmosphere of the original. Remakes would never make the original obsolete. SAme goes for lets say Resident Evil. Plus they should have completed the remake in one game and not to sell you three parts with triple A price. The original had three discs and they didn't charge three discs separately for 60 euros. 4 disc if you were on PC.
Remake assumes you already played the OG, I can't imagine how much of a clusterfuck playing all 3 parts would be for a new player. Definitely doesn't replace the original, maybe it should have...but they did the whole meta thing to the story so no.
@@domagojkersun9630I'm thankful for them making it in three parts so they can make it as big as possible. It wouldn't even fit in the ps5 hard drive otherwise lol. Games today cost alot more to make today. Wouldn't make sense to make a 5-6 disc game and release it as one game. And they can learn what what people like and dislike about the previous game. Rebirth is so much better than remake
I just started the OG game after finishing the platinum trophy on Rebirth. So far I'm enjoying it, it holds up in 2024. It's so interesting to see the differences compared to the new games.
Not many talk about it, but back in the days was FF7 and FF8 really hated by many gamers, parents and stores that sell videogames. Gamers hated it because they wanted action, kids and many adults was confused or bored by all the menus. Parents hated the game because their kids stopped to play the games after less that few hours (in some cases even some minutes) and their kids wanted a new game. Stores hated the games because many people who bought the games wanted their money back or an other game as exchange. I have talked back in the days to over 100 people who played both games, I have only met just 1 other person who had completed FF7 and that was a person who worked in a video game store and only 2 persons who had beaten FF8 ... the same worker from the video game store and the other was a person who worked in a comic shop. I was back in the days a big fan of both games and it was always a mystery to my why the Final Fantasy games was so hated.
Ff7 probably the first jrog which made such a status in the west. Ofc there r gonna be issues. It laid the basis of gaming in general. Ppl were totally invested in shooters at that time
I played Final Fantasy VII entirely on a somewhat broken ISO loaded onto my modified PSP back during the Great Recession. Plenty of roadtrips to visit elderly relatives, and plenty of gametime. Ran into a few notorious crashes with the ISO, especially at Temple of the Ancients, where you don't get a save file for about 2 hours. There was one crash which would corrupt the save, but I never experienced that one. I may go through FF7 again. So much that I did not experience and do not remember.
Still the best way to experience this universe. The music, the secrets, the CLASSIC RPG grind. This game is so pure and now more than ever the narrative truly speaks with the how the current state of the war fares. I’ll forever be an OG VII Stan.
What you on about? I love the OG, and granted the remakes are more of a re-imagining, but the remakes literally expand on the FF7 lore where the original could not due to space and data storage constraints. People can't go wrong with both FF7 remake and Rebirth.
@@cbgg1585 sure, people can enjoy both, I enjoy both. However as a complete package I prefer the original to the remakes. It’s like reading the hobbit verses watching the movies. It’s cool they did expand on some of the things but other things got expanded that really didn’t need too and hurt the overall experience of the story. FF7 on its own did so much more for me than the remake, so of course I’m going to big it up
I still remember buying this from a blockbuster when I was 13 for like 20 bucks without any idea what it was about. I just knew it was 3 discs, so figured it would take me awhile to get through while I saved up for some other games that were coming out. I was blown away by how fun and engaging it was. I spent the entire summer playing it (multiple times). I also read somewhere that the original creators didn't have the time or people to fully flesh out the story the way they wanted to. I think the new games to a good job of filling everything in. I do miss hunting for the summon materia though, I always found that fun.
It wasn't fast-paced. Remake is just full of empty filler. And I can almost guarantee you that trend will fall off hard, and you'll be missing things that should have been there by the final release. I won't know because I can't stand playing the game.
@@drownthepoor some people need to knowledge that final fantasy 7 remake is a good game just because it was not the og does not make it a bad game. hopefully you dint buy the game than but their are people that enjoyed remake.their are many types of gamers out their. i personally am on my second play threw of final fantasy 7 remake.
@@supersaiyaman11589 They changed the story, and added a bunch of side-quests that are filler. The "Whispers of Fate" are ridiculous, and you shouldn't see Sephiroth until after leaving Midgar. I wanted to like the game, but it's just not possible.
I still have the OG release copy of mine. Got it the day it was released and had to wait a further few months before I could play it because it was a birthday gift.
Really great game. Only played it for the first time like 5 years ago so I have no nostalgia for it, and it really does hold up in everything except graphics. The materia system especially you can do a lot with if you really go deep into it.
So I played OG FF7 once. Never found Vincent, never got the knights of the round materia or really any of the optional high end things people know so well. I didnt see Omnislash until the scene at the end after you beat Sephiroth. I always find that amusing how much is optional side pieces people love but are totally missable.
It's the nature of RPGs. Some people explore every nook and cranny and are rewarded with new characters, items, equipment, abilities. Some people rush for the story. And then most people are somewhere in between. Explore what they can, but don't end up finding a lot of the more hidden things. Until you hear someone at school or work or the Internet gushing about it and then you try and see if you can do it yourself lol
Classic FF7 was the game that helped me find my love for gaming. Was the first game of its kind that I had ever played and I couldnt put it down. I remember borrowing my stepbrothers ps1 just to play it and would skip school when my father went to work just so I could get a few more hours in lol. Its characters and its lore has held up for years and will always hold a place in my heart as one of the best games to ever be made.
I'm stoked we have the new trilogy but I'd really like to see the og but just modernized in graphics. I still play the og and love it so modernized graphics would be a plus. Give me a remaster!
@kennymichaelalanya7134 I'm playing rebirth right now and it's becoming one of my favorite games ever made. I don't see why it would be too much for them to also do what you want also. Would be great for marketing. Have the remake to bring in a new generation of people into this story and a remaster for the old schoolers. $$$
@@mitchh5596 ? How it is ungrateful for wanting an actual remake of ff7 and not a sequel that’s under the disguise of a remake that spoils major plot points in the original game
Matty, watching these 3 FFVII related videos leading up to tomorrows (21 1/2 hours from when I’m writing this comment) have just increased my hype and helped me get so much more excited for Rebirth! Your Retro Rebound channel has been my favorite for some time now, and being able to share our love and hype all together has been amazing! Here’s to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, I’m more hyped than I was for Remake! I hope everyone has an incredible experience with Rebirth, and hopefully the 4 years or so it’ll take for part 3 go by quickly! Edit: If anyone hasn’t seen Matty’s videos on Rebirth or Remake, check them out! They’re awesome!
Idk, for me these remakes were everything I was dreaming about as a kid playing the original having to use my imagination. I was in awe for like the first 10 hours haha, I really think they nailed it down with reberth. I do have a few complaints from the remake part 1, but basically love everything on reberth. And I feel like a kid again playing :)
I was 10 when this launched and it literally blew my mind. The graphics. The storyline. It changed the way I played games and understood what gaming really was.
3:23 I’m sorry but even the sound design for the battles was so, so fucking ahead of its time that this game will always remain the Goat. Jut the level of detail put into this game. Perfection.
It’s not only on PlayStation anymore, I bought it last week on Nintendo Switch. Gonna play it for the first time, also my first FF. So I’m a little hyped.
I remember playing this game for the first time as a 7 year old and being absolutely blown away by the graphics and the realism. It was like nothing I’d ever seen before as the only other 3D game I had played was Crash Bandicoot. It still looks solid now on a CRT. Damn, the late 90s and early 00s were such a fun time to be a gamer. PS1/N64/PS2 eras were simply incredible. I just feel like the games of today aren’t made with the passion they once were.
Love what you said about the remake installments' "stop and smell the roses" approach; I think it speaks to the developers understanding that much of its original fanbase just wanted to exist in that world as much as possible, far beyond what the original provided. In my case, much as I love the remake, I can also understand how it will never live up to my expectations, and what I imagined was/could be happening in the FF7 world while I was traversing it superficially. I'm still glad I get to spend more time in the world of FF7 while knowing that my vision of it was mine alone.
played it for the first time in 2020. (played cc , remake and doc before) at first i was a little distracted by , well the polygons and the 3d. then i barely noticed any of that. the story is so fantastic and moving. i ended up playing through everything. getting the knights of the round , all of the hidden quests. when i finished the game , i am really stunned. its amazing how a very old game can move me this much. much more than most games today.
My most memorable moment was when Rufus died. Just the way he faced that energy burst was amazing. It was just amazing to see a villain given so much personality. He died like a man. And no, I don’t count him surviving by diving under a desk. That was just a tool to make an alibi to bring him back in another game.
Playing the PS4 port for OG FF7 on a PS5 after playing the Remake then watching the Trailer for the remake included on the port is like opening a time capsule.
To add the thing about being late to FF7. I started playing the game the first time in 2016. Before that I watched one of my mom's old friends play it way back in 2002-2003 back when I didn't know the title of it.
As someone who played VII when it came out, I will never forget experiencing it for the first time. I didn't know any spoilers, and, for me, the two biggest have stuck with me and will forever stick with me... 1. Midgar isn't the whole game. I spent so much time there I didn't even know there was a "world" to explore. I just assumed the whole game was set in Midgar, so when we finally left, I was shocked at how much more there was to do. 2. Aries(Arieth) was a stunning moment. I kept her as a staple in my party whenever I could, gave her the best equipment I could, etc, all because she was the most effective "healer" I'd ever used in an RPG. Taking her away was not just a blow to the characters in the story, but to me as a player too. If I had a third core memory from the game, it would be laughing at how the third disc was basically just "kill the boss"
FF7 was my favorite game as a 10 year old and it shaped my view of what games could deliver. I recommend getting the 7th Heaven Mod Manager, install Tsunamods, Echo-s (voice overs etc) and some other mods. There's a bunch of guides on youtube. Takes about 30 minutes. It'll upscale all the textures, improve effects, 60 fps, smooth transition to battles, updated music / can use FF7 Remake music, etc. The Echo-S voice overs are community made and fairly decent at that. Can always turn them off if it doesn't click. It really feels modern enough with all these mods without having to change the core game in any regard.
I got FFVII when I was 8 years old for Christmas in 1997, along with a Playstation and Tekken 2. Absolutely changed my life and is still probably my favorite game of all time. Playing the remake practically brings me to tears. So stoked for Rebirth.
Finished this when I was 6 years old, just finished it again now at 28, the nostalgia throughout was really amazing, so many memories one of the all time great games (imo)
Collecting all the ESkills was fun. Learning what I had to do back in 1997 was challenging as the tips weren’t as easy to find online back then. It’s a wonder how we were expected to find them all.
My two favorite gameing experiences of all time was playing Pokemon Gold as a Kid, and playing FF7 as my first experience of traditional JRPGs. Experiencing this game as a kid, completely unspoiled of the story and what awaited me. I could almost describe it as life changing. Very few games have had such a lasting impact on me as this game had on me as a kid. It changed games from a silly past-time to an art-form I wanted to invest my time building a career around.
I don't care how corny this sounds to anyone lol I'm so damn happy I was able to see this in my lifetime. My absolute favorite game ever and imo the best storyline of any game across any franchise. And I will absorb whatever they do with it. I'm starting rebirth now
That line in the commercial is easily the best one "The game that Will never coming to Theater near you". God that's so good. Even some of the comment in the commercial video said that they show that commercial in the Theater make it ten times funny.
Cloud is not a clone, thats Hojo's claim. It becomes clear after the Mideel Mako/Tifa piece that he is not a clone and even becomes even clearer when you see the Zack hidden scene in shinra mansion's basement.
He IS a clone. A clone in FF7 isnt a literal clone, but an existing individual with Jenova cells that has undergone a procedure. The 'hidden' scene is actual proof, because Hojo kept Cloud and Zack there and performed the procedure on Cloud, which is what messed him up and why he turned catatonic. But the procedure resulted in a flawed clone, basically he wasnt 'good' enough so he didnt get a number like the other clones did. Essentially Hojo took members of SOLDIER and was turning them in to clones. He also turned them in to monsters on his failed attempt to create clones before he nailed the procedure down. Because the 'clone' is infected so heavily by Jenova cells and because Sephiroth is controlling Jenova, he is able to control a clones Jenova cells and change its appearance or cause hallucinations. This is why he has so much control over Cloud, though Sephiroth doesnt possess him (Even though he could), he prefers to manipulate him instead because he is obsessed with Cloud and doesnt want him to lose his persona, he just wants it to be a persona that is malleable and Subservient (in OG) or on his side. (In Remake).
Hearing the music in rebirth brings back so many memories I love what they did with the music, they made yuffie not annoying and more like just a young teenager even to the point she sings a song about being bored to her theme song.
One of my top All Time games, played it back around 1997 wen it first came out around a friends and knew I was seeing something amazing! What a story, probably no 1 in that regard...
I played this game and finished it in the late 90s on ps1 this game and orcarina of time are my most 2 memorial games ever. those to games really are what made me stick to gaming, even into my 40 I still play games and have never stopped and I owe my love for gaming to them both ❤
I just finished my first ff7 playthrough since 1999 and I still had a lot of fun and really am amazed that I still knew so many important things about it
I feel ya. Sony be possessive though. They keep expanding the exclusivity for the remakes. Personally I would really be into a REMASTER of the OG game that touch's the archaic graphics up a bit and removes the 4.3 ratio. In fact, why don't they just do a remaster available on all platforms with a complete realisation of the game, as they ran out of time to deliver on it, originally. I don't mind if it remains text based or they do VA. I just really think a lot of people would like to see square COMPLETE FULLY the OG FF7.
I had the black label version and lent to friend as kid and he returned with disc 3 scratched and ever since i never let people borrow my games. After that i had to get ugly green greatest hits and buy the game again. Had black label of ff tactics too. It was hard to find non greatest hits versions back then after that happened. Idk if still is
@@Neethan3247back then it was when i was a kid and you couldnt find black label versions easily where i lived. And my point was more about never letting anyone borrow my games. Tactics black label used to cost a ton not sure if it does now but when growing up it became rare
People today don't realize how great the artistry was in the game. Yes, the graphics have aged, but the character designs, and the designs of the prerendered backgrounds, charm of the world, Honey Bee Inn, Gold Saucer, it was the most charming RPG, and the world design is done very correctly. Like the character and vehicle design for '77 Star Wars was perfect
Fun Part: You can now also play the game on your cell phone (okay, it's been working for a long time) I played it on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 back then and even today it's on my cell phone (also part 9). It's really fun to play something like this on the train/plane.
FF7 came out when I was 7. My dad purchased a PS1 when I was 8, and I borrowed the game from a friend. I didn't have a memory card so I played the first reaction scene over and over and over. Eventually gave it up since I didn't have a memory card. About 4-5 years later, I got a memory card and THEN I discovered how immersive and massive this game actually was. I'm honored to have been a part of the generation that played this game and enjoyed it in more simpler times. With that being said, I'm older now and unhealthily addicted to FF7 Compilation. To anyone that is looking to get into these games, it is never too late to dolphin dive in.
Ff7 remake was my first final fantasy i ever played through from start to finish, i loved it, im now on a quest to play more FF and im gonna start with the original 7 before i open my rebirth copy cant wait
This game is totally playable on the Switch. As someone who always wanted it as a kid (N64 guy), i tried playing emulators but would always drop it before leaving Midgar. The speed up function, plus the other quality of life features made me play from start to finish having a blast.
The game may be dated, but it’s still captivating new fans.
This is the best thing I’ve ever read on the internet hands down
Can you adopt me? I'm 27
Those who know about Nibelheim and those who don't 😂. Especially the demeanor of a certain character seems off...
That's awesome! My 6 yr old loved watching me play Remake a yr ago and CC Reunion last yr and is super excited to see me play Rebirth now, which I got and started today, though not until she got home from school bc she made me promise I wouldn't play it without her. 😅
You mean you SOLDIERed on
As someone who has never played a FF game until last month, this game lives up to the hype.
Final Fantasy is best when Turn Based.
if it picked up the combat system of parasite eve like 7R kinda did, both can be best.@@Dark-Glaive
I feel the same way. Id be on Crisis Core too right now if I wasn't so addicted to the original and trying to 100 percent it.
i recommend you play 9 as well. Its really good too. My favorite alongside 7.
It's my favourite game of all time

best part of playing this when it came out. no facebook. instagram or youtube spoilers. so long as you're friends didnt spoil anything. you had no idea what was going to happen. hits different
Exactly. The big moment with Aerith was shocking. It was the first video game I ever played up until that point that made me emotional over fictional characters. It was so heartbreaking. But the story was so compelling and endearing.
The official Brady strategy guide spoiled that moment

I look back at my 10 year old self and just remember how lucky I was to play this. FF7 was probably the single most influential game for me, I played every FF up to 12 but they never hit the same for me. Great walk down memory lane here, the 90s were a great time to be a kid gamer and growing up with the console evolution.
FF7-10 are just impossibly good
Same..my mom used to play this game and when she beat it I picked it up. Crazy how a game soundtrack can make your heart so heavy!
I was 9 when it came out and changed my life like Pokemon forever! 🥰
I had the same experience with 10, we were so lucky to grow up with Final Fantasy 🥰
I'm actually playing the OG FF7 for the first time and I'm really liking it. I recently got to the Temple of the Ancients.

@@ByakuyaKBbruh! So happy people are picking up the OG in 2024. I couldn’t afford rebirth so I started playing the OG again to beat it before buying the game to give me time to save. By then I hope you have leveled up Aerith and got her final Limit Break. It becomes very useful for an upcoming battle. That, and well, you know…
Me and my uncle used to play this and FF tactics all the time together when i was growing up.
Another tip you can change the menu colors beyond the blue/white asthetic (a lot of people don't know about this)
@dotcom721😂😂😂😂😂😂
I admit that the acting is a little goofy in a few places, but for 2001 they did an amazing job
no way the "rebirth/remakes" can beat ff7

I always used to watch my older brother play these games back in early 2000's but I never saw the fascination until i played them myself. Started in 2010 with FFXIII, and now played near all main entries, IX being my favourite. VII is revolutionary, though, once in a lifetime type game.
X and VI are imo masterpieces.

I’ll say when I first played it as a kid that I never grinned in the game but I was insanely op at the end because of not knowing what to do. The game took me over 100 hours( i never played a game that long before then). I remember fighting the worm over in over in the dessert not knowing that I couldn’t beat him. @jayhughes3843I like ff7 characters over ff8 honestly

Rebirth is so much better than remake
I just started the OG game after finishing the platinum trophy on Rebirth. So far I'm enjoying it, it holds up in 2024. It's so interesting to see the differences compared to the new games.
The way you handle those discs is fucking criminal man
True, but it's only a greatest hits version anyway so...
The writing and music is next level in this game, especially for the time the dialogue and character writing really is something else.

Im doing the same. Cant believe how fast paced midgar was after remake ahaha
It wasn't fast-paced. Remake is just full of empty filler. And I can almost guarantee you that trend will fall off hard, and you'll be missing things that should have been there by the final release.

I remember borrowing my stepbrothers ps1 just to play it and would skip school when my father went to work just so I could get a few more hours in lol. Its characters and its lore has held up for years and will always hold a place in my heart as one of the best games to ever be made.
Man, i wish we got an actual remake of the game
I'm stoked we have the new trilogy but I'd really like to see the og but just modernized in graphics. I still play the og and love it so modernized graphics would be a plus. Give me a remaster!
@@josflorida5346yeah man this would've been better if they had remaked it like SMRPG.
lol talk about ungrateful
The new versions don't have the magic of the original
Idk, for me these remakes were everything I was dreaming about as a kid playing the original having to use my imagination. I was in awe for like the first 10 hours haha, I really think they nailed it down with reberth. I do have a few complaints from the remake part 1, but basically love everything on reberth. And I feel like a kid again playing :)
They have more
I think its the sound and the stupid new options.
Perfection.
Just downloaded 7th Heaven and Echo-S 7 and wow, it reinvigorates the game quite a bit!
Probably the best story and writing of any FF game. So good, it should honestly be a movie trilogy.
It’s not only on PlayStation anymore, I bought it last week on Nintendo Switch.
Gonna play it for the first time, also my first FF. So I’m a little hyped.
I hope you're enjoying it!
Exactly... I mean they took the train yard which was only a 5minute section in the original and turned it into a damn chapter. Fantastic IMO
played it for the first time in 2020. (played cc , remake and doc before)
at first i was a little distracted by , well the polygons and the 3d.
then i barely noticed any of that. the story is so fantastic and moving. i ended up playing through everything. getting the knights of the round , all of the hidden quests. when i finished the game , i am really stunned.
its amazing how a very old game can move me this much. much more than most games today.
As someone who is currently playing FF7 for the first time in 2024 as well I’m going to have to come back to this.
My most memorable moment was when Rufus died. Just the way he faced that energy burst was amazing. It was just amazing to see a villain given so much personality. He died like a man.
And no, I don’t count him surviving by diving under a desk. That was just a tool to make an alibi to bring him back in another game.
omfg that intro to the commercial of ps1 FF7 will forever live rent free in my head.
Been thinking about installing this on my phone along wit 9 as I never got to play through them back in the day.
Playing the PS4 port for OG FF7 on a PS5 after playing the Remake then watching the Trailer for the remake included on the port is like opening a time capsule.
I'm grateful for that PS4 port for allowing more people to experience a version of the OG game
If I had a third core memory from the game, it would be laughing at how the third disc was basically just "kill the boss"
i played it only last year and it instantly became my favorite game ever im currently extremely enjoying rebirth
The camera angles/direction is what makes this game so good.
just salivating while he was going through that manual. Wonderful stuff. Wonderful time.
I'm starting rebirth now
I’m so happy to see my boy playing OG Ff7. I just played ff7 remake finally. Platinumed it, loved it. Moving on to rebirth
I'm so happy to he in those comments. I also only played og last year because I never had access to ps as a kid. Im down bad and i love it here
That line in the commercial is easily the best one "The game that Will never coming to Theater near you". God that's so good. Even some of the comment in the commercial video said that they show that commercial in the Theater make it ten times funny.
I was 12 when FF7 came out and have played it numerous times since then. Loved this game so much. Now I need to replay it after I finish Rebirth
@@Abominus-bl3di hummm i got to go through ff7 og again, because i cant argue xD
"and it still is only on Play Station!" my switch wants to see you for a moment sir.
yea kinda odd comment pretty sure you can even play on ipad etc and been on pc forever.
I played this game and finished it in the late 90s on ps1 this game and orcarina of time are my most 2 memorial games ever. those to games really are what made me stick to gaming, even into my 40 I still play games and have never stopped and I owe my love for gaming to them both ❤
I just finished my first ff7 playthrough since 1999 and I still had a lot of fun and really am amazed that I still knew so many important things about it
I’m playing this right now on my Xbox. While hoping one day the remake comes to it.
Until Ocarina of Time came out this was arguably the greatest game of all time.
I had the black label version and lent to friend as kid and he returned with disc 3 scratched and ever since i never let people borrow my games. After that i had to get ugly green greatest hits and buy the game again. Had black label of ff tactics too. It was hard to find non greatest hits versions back then after that happened. Idk if still is
The black label isn't too expensive on eBay? Ever think of having it replaced? 😊
@@Neethan3247back then it was when i was a kid and you couldnt find black label versions easily where i lived. And my point was more about never letting anyone borrow my games. Tactics black label used to cost a ton not sure if it does now but when growing up it became rare
if only rebirth had those graphics and gameplay with the actual ff7 story
3:15 THANK YOU. I love 7 but 9 was just perfection.
I love the quality of life improvements. Leveling up quick without grinding and speeding up battles...so good.
Fun Part: You can now also play the game on your cell phone (okay, it's been working for a long time)
I played it on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 back then and even today it's on my cell phone (also part 9).
