It must've been deeply jarring, when rural, bountiful, picturesque, utopian idyll met the savage, visceral, explosive barbarism of a Comanche raid. A juxtaposition of polar extremes.
i consider and contemplate that exact scenario as i walk around out here in the hills of central texas… ‘what if a band of whooping comanche fell upon the homestead right now? how terrified, overmatched, and helpless i would’ve been in trying to protect my wife and daughter?’.

If you'd like to deep dive into the subject, check out the book Empire Of The Summer Moon. Some critical of the book say it's not entirely accurate but I'd still recommend it. The brutality and beauty of frontier life seemed to be a razor sharp edge. Changing without warning.
@@DeepTexasI’m a halfbreed from a coastal tribe, it’s really cool to hear the firsthand accounts of what life was like on the same water & trails my kids & grandkids will walk & hunt on after I’m long gone. We were whaling and warrior people 🤘 quite the bustling slave trade in our area as well 😅 On my English/German side we were one of the first families in the US & Canada 🤘 we owned a few of the bars the revolution kicked off in, and our family still holds and homesteads “orrigional farmland” we traded for with the Indians, and raised absolute hell when the British, and the Union came. I’m no Tar Heels but my grandpa was 🤘 our county took the highest loss of life but lowest damages/ loss of personal property and livestock, during and after the war.

It's okay when whites and other Europeans do it apparently. But when we did it in defense, we're godless savage heathens apparently. Yeah makes total sense 👍@@erenjaeger1738

They were poor, desperate and just trying to survive.
