It honestly just makes the performance feel full of more passion and love for doing it, it's not perfect, and that is what makes it perfect

i was the brunette front and center in the potter puppet pals shirt goin crazy and i can say that the crowd had a good energy in person. and it's the biggest draw for lemon demon i've seen since i've been coming every year since 2009 to see them here. i'm so proud of how much bigger they've gotten!

i think his visible nervousness etc have a lot to do with the scale of the concert. there are recordings from earlier years with a smaller audience where he's far more relaxed and seems to be having fun, so ofc his vocals sound better there. tho i really like the song versions from this concert too, the trashy mic and neil's messups have a charm to them somehow too!!

Can't blame him, I shake when I'm just presenting a slide show.
No shame, Neil is a studio musician where a lot of work is needed to get to the right pitch, just the effort it took to adapt his songs to live versions is quite respectable.
I hope Neil knows the mess-ups were _far_ beyond understandable. I'd be in absolute disbelief if he 100% nailed the lyrics of Toy Food.
Anyway, considering how freaking crazy the instrumentation is in most Lemon Demon songs, it's really interesting seeing how they approximate the sounds of the studio versions.

To be fair: he's also screaming, most likely due to nervousness, but screaming none the less. I absolutely still love this anyway, though. But yeah, a better mic probably could have helped.

It seems he’s using a regular SM58 which are known for being probably the best vocal performance microphone for the price (but still costing like £90), so whatever is causing issue is someone doing an awful job at the mixing desk, if there even is one lol
@@oliverhaines1716 Yeah he is defiantly using a SM58 it sounds like the gain was way too high, he was too close to the mic causing the proximity effect which is good if the song is quiet but he was screaming into the mic, it also sounds like someone was twerking on the eq nobs and no one moved them back.
It’s obvious singing isn’t something that comes naturally to Neil, which really makes me appreciate how hard he works to make himself sound so good.
Eh, I wouldn’t say that. I think he was just really nervous here, you can kind of see it in his movements and how he stumbles over himself every few minutes.
Also doesn’t help that his microphone is really bad here.

Was at this concert and it was great, defiantly the best I've seen Neil live. The crowd was dead though and I was one of a handful of people getting into it. Hope to see Lemon Demon come back to Youmacon in 2014.

Neil has a really good voice... now. He always sang super low in the old stuff, I never really heard him hit higher notes until Spirit Phone. it's hard for me to listen to the old stuff now even though he's written TONS of really awesome songs. The Ocean especially is fantastic. Between You and Me. Sky Is Not Blue. Rainwater. Kitten Is Angry. they're a little unpolished now, and after spirit phone came out, for me, it really drove home just how much his old tracks were being held back. i kind of hope he goes back and redoes a few of them, but as a musician myself, i totally understand wanting to always keep moving ahead

Speaking for myself, I was there and I was REALLY into it dancing and having a great time! I was in the front though, I didn't look behind me to see if I was the only one LOL
I find all his little mistakes so endearing for some reason, like, he seems so nervous so even though it's his songs but he's trying his best despite not being a stage person

It’s so weird and cool for a band’s first show get this treatment. Normally the first 10+ shows are basically rehearsals, working out kinks and getting comfortable. Interesting to see a recording of what normally is an awkward period all bands have to endure.
That doesn’t apply here obvs since it was just a temporary project, but they did really great. Especially since some songs he had to totally re-learn. Maybe to a musician that’s not a big deal, but to me it’s impressive.
He performed A Mask Of My Own Face pretty well, actually.
