There's something undeniably sexy about the first 20 seconds of the movie, the music, the masked face, the swagger, the twist of the head....Hugh Jackman rocked this scene!
+Hunter Hughes That's actually the reason for their names. In the original book, the name Jekyll was pronounced Jeekyll, to make it a play on words with the alter-ego Hyde. Hide and Seek; dramatic irony :)
I saw this age the raw age of 10. How would you possibly remember watching this at the age of 4 and why weren't you having a happy childhood life lol. The times I missed out on things because of a movie oh gosh
@@conor_l8r865 Besides the super strength and durability...it's accurate. In most adaptations Mr. Hyde is depicted as a split evil personality of the "good" Dr. Jekyll. But here it is implied that Jekyll and Hyde are the same person....and this is how it is in the book. Jekyll was always himself while he was Hide. Jekyll wasn't actually "good".
funny you should say that. because I recently started a new game on BB named Van Helsing. I tried to make him look like Hugh Jackman here (I think I did pretty good). for his weapons, im gonna use the Stake Driver, in place of the silver stake; and the whirlgig saw for those little saws he uses here. and his left hand weapon will be the repeating pistol. since it shoots 2 bullets, its like using dual guns.
Even though I was only 10 When I saw him back in 2004 the first thing I thought was "hmmm...oh yeah..Hellboy" although he does look similar to the rendition of Hyde in "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" as well.
+Serena Leander Originally yes. but your forgetting the fact that he took larger doses of the formula later. and the more of the Hyde potion you take the bigger Hyde gets. besides in every version Hyde is different. in the original he was a hunch back with super strength. another he was an ape man. another still Jekyll was ugly and Hyde was attractive, and Hyde would seem nice until he snaps your neck when you turn away.
I liked the Hyde from the league of extraordinary gentlemen but that's mainly because of the way they did it and the attention to detail like the growing hair.
Man I remember watching this when I was 5, scariest movie ever when you are a child. It's actually the firs movie I remember watching, still like it. The CG was ahead of it's time, also back when Universal made movies that weren't just cash grab.
this might not be the best movie but I love it. Its got a badass monster hunter, a steam tech, some pretty good CGI and now is honestly a pretty good tribute the classic Universal Monsters example, Hyde isn't just a tribute to Jekyll and Hyde but also to their version of the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I really wish they'd given it animated series or something
I've meet a guy like this in real life but not as tall as Mr. Hyde is portrayed in this film. He's 5' 1", works in the mines, and although he doesn't smoke cigars he sure does love his beer. The guy is a beast, loves to fight, and pretty much acts like Mr. Hyde but without the murderous intent. In addition, he used to be a boxer but got bored until he became a bouncer for a certain number of years and then some years after that he got a job at the mines (I won't tell you which mines though). I guess I'm kind of his friend but he makes friends with anyone who will have a beer with him. I would never want to get on his bad side because when I say he's a beast I mean it because he fights like one with feet, heels, knees, elbows, fists, head, teeth, and even his nails. There was this one time at the local pub where he was telling jokes about many different things and then this out-of-towner guy came up to him calmly and asked him to apologize. My friend Mr. Hyde (we'll just call him that for now) turned around, looked at the guy in the eyes and then slammed his beer back and then said, "Apologize for what Princess?" and smiled at him. Basically the guy got offended because Mr. Hyde was making fun of Jiu Jitsu in one of his jokes. The guy was still calm and asked Mr. Hyde again to apologize for making light of Jiu Jitsu. What's fucked up though is that I thought people like that were supposed to not pay attention to stuff like that and only fight to defend themselves or something like that? Anyways, Mr. Hyde apologized for making fun of Jiu Jitsu and that he should give it credit for it being like the special olympics. That set off the other guy and he challenged Mr. Hyde to a non-official exhibition fight outside. Mr. Hyde accepted, slammed another beer before saying to the guy, "Well Alrighty then, let's go have some fun Princess!" again while smiling. The other guy was starting to look really annoyed lol. Needless to say, Mr. Hyde won and the other guy was knocked out cold but it was a good fight though and the Jiu Jitsu guy really gave Mr. Hyde a run for his money. The problem was that the Jiu Jitsu guy never faced off against someone like Mr. Hyde which includes his own style of fighting, and remember what I said about him being a beast and that I meant it!
yeah, the writer was Scottish, but the novel took place in London... Also, Hyde's supposed to be smaller than Jekyll, as described by Robert L. Stevenson, and he's supposed to be younger and more attractive than Jekyll, yet have a strong, unsettling aura of pure evil about him. He's described as Jekyll's clothes being several sizes too large... Hyde was not an 8 foot bulky monster like this at all, but quite the opposite. he was a small, young man with a soul of pure evil.
God damn that’s a dope hat I remember when I was a kid and I watched this my dad got me a similar hat and I’d run around pretending to hunt vampires and crap ah the good old days.
This movie is up there with League of Extraordinary Gentlemen in being a great movie that people hate for no reason.
Agreed!
Cheese4G That and Solomon Kane
Cheese4G The League sucked big time, this one is actually good
Reginald Radio Never heard people talk shit about this film

This was such an underrated movie.

it's cheesy action fun.

Hey >:v
I don't think I've ever seen a movie as well-paced as Van Helsing.
I watched this and played the video game religiously as a kid.
Love this movie. Every damn thing about it.
This was a better classic monsters crossover than The Mummy...
true though not exactly hard to do
This is what The Mummy 2017 wanted to be but got to bogged down with chasing trends
This movie has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard such a shame this movie never became the franchise it wanted to be
one of my favorite versions of Mr. Hyde
RFSCaveman even though it's totally inaccurate
oh yeah totally, but at least he is still somewhat a human, just really big.

Same lol he reminds me of league of extraordinary gentleman's & the 1932 version

♥ Ugh I love this scene..
The place looks like Notre Dame, just imagine Quasimodo sitting in the corner like “can yall stop? I’m tryna carve some statues”
Omg yes!
The way Hyde just chills with a cigar in his mouth, like "bro, I'm gonna kill ya, but lemme smoke.''
