    I had a few nagging doubts about this lens after watching a few other video reviews, complicated by the fact Laowa also makes a 9mm and 10mm, but you squelched them all. Easily the most informative and useful content on the subject yet-subscribed. Thank you.

    Nice! I’m def buying this lens! The footage at the end was insane. I b like the shots of the biker a lot! That dolly zoom at 10:19 was sick! I like how you snuck it in. It was VERY shuttle, but noticeable!

    Hey, I do notice some barrel distortion on the gh5.... didn’t quite understand how you explained it compared to the gh5s🤔

    • @RICH_Photography
      @RICH_Photography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because the GH5s has a 1.86x crop sensor and the GH5 has a 2x crop sensor. So the GH5s actually uses “more” of the lens making it wider which should technically increase distortion. I hope that helps.

      @@RICH_Photography It is my next purchase.
      I was worried about the focus issue that some people pointed out, but you recently bought it and maybe that problem is fixed... I heard also about it being loose on the mount, did you experienced that?

  • @loft4me
    @loft4me 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Rich, for getting everything in focus from near to far when at f2, where do you set your focus at? Because of the wide angle, I have gotten away at setting at the infinity mark. But I'm wondering if I focus short of infinity, will I be able to have objects even closer, in focus. Thanks. I have this lens, and it can turn ordinary things in my backyard into something photogenic, especially when used during the golden hours with an off-camera flash.

    • @RICH_Photography
      @RICH_Photography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So true!! Amazing lens.
      To be quite honest at f2 it won’t be as sharp as f4 or 5.6
      If I shoot at f2 to have everything in focus, I put it about a millimetre before the center of the infinity sign. Just that little bit helps it crank away from really far focus shots.
      If you filming in a slightly more condensed place with people/crowds or real estate it helps as nothing is essentially that far away.

    • @loft4me
      @loft4me 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RICH_Photography Outstanding. That makes sense, Rich. For focusing at f2 where you want infinity and all the way back to the closest to the camera as possible to be in focus, I would set the focus before the hard stop, close to the center of the infinity mark. Outstanding! Will give that a try, thanks Rich.

    • @RICH_Photography
      @RICH_Photography  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is hands down my favourite lens!
      Insanely wide!
      Bonus, if you use the 4K extele GH5 punch in option, the wide 7.5mm disappears and you get another really useful lens.

      @MyFlyingEyes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RICH_Photography is that Teleconverter mode?

    • @RICH_Photography
      @RICH_Photography  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct 👌 punching in on the 7.5mm makes it really versatile as it’s not just the “super wide”.

    • @RICH_Photography
      @RICH_Photography  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      4 years later still untouchable with no competition. Laowa did make a new 6mm.
      I haven’t used the 6mm as yet. Looks crazy wide. Probably too wide for most uses but I think it could be a fun lens.
      Have I ever been in a situation where I needed a wider lens, definitely not.

    • @RICH_Photography
      @RICH_Photography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not too sure, I’m sure you could. However if you have a GH5s you can use the EX teleconverter which crops in your image making it not near as wide.

    Can you tell how how you achieved that insane movement effect @ 10:20 please.

    • @RICH_Photography
      @RICH_Photography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ah man I love that effect...it’s quite simple.
      When filming you do a straight push in shot walking closer to the car.
      In post you crop the entire shot to say 150%, and at the beat that drops or whatever point you need, you set a key frame to “crop back out to 100%” creating a ‘dolly zoom’ effect.

    • @lucrativestance
      @lucrativestance 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RICH Photography ahh I see sorta like the dolly zoom effect, did you find the sweet spot to focus on everything from close /far subjects?

    • @RICH_Photography
      @RICH_Photography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah so the Laowa is perfect at f5.6, and put the focus distance in the centre of the infinity sign on the lens, it’s pure sharpness all the way 👌

  • @ZJProductionHK
    @ZJProductionHK 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Gh5 is slightly sharper at edges? Or gh5 would get distortion?

    • @ZJProductionHK
      @ZJProductionHK 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And are those gimbal shots?

    • @RICH_Photography
      @RICH_Photography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically the GH5 should be sharper at the edges and ‘distortion’ on the perspective will be less as the GH5 crops in ‘more’ than a GH5.

    • @RICH_Photography
      @RICH_Photography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes those are 99% gimbal shots.

  • @lollipop5967
    @lollipop5967 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    what is the difference between f2 and T2.1?

    • @RICH_Photography
      @RICH_Photography  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So T2.1 basically measures the exact amount of light passing through. And f2 is more of a bokeh/light measurement.
      If you wondering in terms of physical difference in your photo or video, you won’t see a difference. They will be identical.
      T stop is just a more professional measurement over F stop.

    It’s not zero distortion though...the 9mm is.

    • @RICH_Photography
      @RICH_Photography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s marketed as a rectilinear lens, this was before Venus Optics started with the Zero D marketing.
      In saying that this leaves a vague line between the 2.
      Even though the GH5s is a 1.86 crop and not 2x like the GH5...the GH5S still has perfectly straight lines with zero distortion unlike most wide lenses.

    • @ZJProductionHK
      @ZJProductionHK 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RICH_Photography btw did u turn off all stabalisation?

    • @RICH_Photography
      @RICH_Photography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually use stabilisation on all my shots, rough movements isn’t ideal for any wide lens but you have to set the GH5 when attaching the Laowa to 7.5mm (camera gives you a notification every-time just to make sure)
