    Hi Peter,
    I have never thought I would write to you even though I have watched your video for quite sometime now. I have been a M43 shooter since my first Olympus camera, the em5. I now shoot both Olympus and Panasonic bodies. I have bought this Laowa lens about 2 years ago and couldn‘t be more happier using it. I use this lens mainly for cityscape and occasionally landscape. This lens is sharp at f5.6 and tack sharp at 8. The vignetting is gone at 5.6. The major issue you have mentioned in this video is, I suppose, mainly due to the lack of in body distortion and vignetting from the Olympus body on third party lens. I have tried numerous times putting the Olympus lenses on Panasonic bodies and found the Olympus lenses are not as good as on Olympus...quite severe distortion and vignetting shown up and I needed to correct them using Adobe LR.
    Another thing is like what you mentioned in the early part of your video this super wide angle lens is not your go to lens and from your photos, I can see that you would need more practice to compose using this super side angle lens. Nevertheless, nice video and I hope you can keep up your work with the M43 gears. Cheers!

      Dear Pang Derek, according to your long experience with this lens would you say that the image quality is more than "acceptable" (as Peter argued)? I own the M.Zuiko 9-14, find it a good lense but sometimes there is a desire to a bigger angle. I iscillate between this lense and the more expensive and much heavier M.Zuiko 7-14.

    Peter, this is a great lens, but each one is slightly differently calibrated. You have to take some time to get it right. At F5.6 - F8 I set it slightly off infinity. Midway between infinity and 0.5 Mark. Once you’ve found the sweet spot. It’s great. Yes it does have lens flare, and vignetting, but I still love using it. I also set my OMD EM5ii in SCP +2 contrast and +1 sharpness and R and monotone filter. It’s great. I nearly sent this lens back as I thought it didn’t take sharp photos. I did some research and tested it out moving the focal ring in tiny increments. It’s easy to move it again as you change apertures. So check it each time.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's true, Laowa 7.5 f2 could be an option for Vlogging. I do not really vlog in the sense that I carry a camera and film myself while walking, but as I said I could see that this lens could be very good on that.

  • @WMedl
    @WMedl 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I considered to buy this lens before having seen your video. Do you think the image quality of the M.Zuiko 7-14 is better expecially at 2.8 - if I had to stop down to 4 or even 5.6 the wide open aperture would not have much sense and I would be content with the M-Zuiko 9-18...
    And do you know whether the Rollei 100x100 square filter system can be clipsed directly on its tubus without screwing which is impossible?

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not tested the Laowa 7.5mm and 7-14mm together. This lens is also a prime lens and the M.Zuiko 7-14mm is a zoom. The 7-14mm is weather sealed and Laowa is not. Laowa is also cheaper etc.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      9-18mm is a zoom and not as fast as the Laowa. Laowa is a prime lens and quite fast f2. I have not tested these two lenses side by side. I do not have the 9-18mm right now. I did review the 9-18mm zoom last summer. You can find the video from my channel.

  • @pangderek9507
    @pangderek9507 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dear Wmedl,
    To me, the image quality of the Laowa is certainly more than acceptable. If you are comparing with the Oly 9-18 and 7-14, there are a few gives and takes for each lens. The 9-18 is priced comparable to the Laowa, as tiny as the Laowa and similar to the Laowa, can be used with filters, but it is 18mm at its widest end, where every single mm makes a difference for wide angle shots, and is slow. The 7-14 is 1 mm wider than the Laowa but it is much more expensive, weather sealed, much bigger and cannot be used with circular filters. To add a ND filter, you need to invest another $400-500 in a Taiwaneses made filter holder and filter, not to mention the additional weight. So it really comes down to what you wanna give and take.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 9-18mm is 9mm at the widest and 7-14mm is 7mm at the wide end. Laowa is has a bit brighter aperture, f2.

  • @ollipelz

    Inspiring photos! I should get a proper wide angle lens. My widest lens at the moment is Olympus 12mm. I actually like the 12mm for indoor event photos because I can get nice cover of the space and when I photo groups of people, I'm at a suitable distance from them. The distance from the groups is important in crowded situations where it is cumbersome to go farther back for every group photo.

    • @WMedl
      @WMedl 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That depends on the focal length. Normally I shoot with AF-S+MF which gives me the opportunity to fingrade or even overrule the cameas AF. For this it is better to use back button focus.
      But what does thrill me is the focus by wire so any turn, any position is unpredictable the next time.
      But of course for speed ....

    Peter Forsgard, so many people have been brainwashed in calling Full Frame, APS & m4/3 sensor.
    But noticed, not one can say APS medium format sensor. Or give it a name.
    My Chinese camera has a APS sensor measured at only 53.4mm X 40mm (less than 6cmX6cm or 6cmX4.5cm).
    Again this lenses only see 15mm/2.0 on Flange-Focal Distance is 19.25mm.
    The light gathering of all m4/3 lenses will never be able to fill 24mm X 36mm.
    So they fooled photographers into thinking they have wide angle lenses.
    The only company that has stepped out of the scamming market slowly in Panasonic.
    Which I am currently testing now with Leica lenses.
    So Panasonic has two models, one for amateurs & the other for serious & pro.
    Panasonic's m4/3 lenses will not work on 1/1 sensor cameras.

  • @bernhardtsen74
    @bernhardtsen74 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I still cant defend the price of these lenses from the nice company! I will probably stick with 7artisans or Samyang for some time!!!!! who does the best wide angle lenses without too much barrel distortion?

    • @Jimmyageek
      @Jimmyageek 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is not Cheap Fish Eye

  • @angelisone
    @angelisone 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is a 15mm/2.0.
    Companies need to stop scamming people with small focal numbers.
    4/3, m4/3, 1.5 or 1.6 will NEVER allows use to see /or capture focal number marked on lenses.
    So in fact 15mm is not nearly as wide as my ATG Gold 6/2.0AIS (mod from Nikon 6mm/2.8AI)
    And placing this awesome ATG onto Olympus or Panasonic becomes 12/2.0.
    But on Panasonic Lumix S1r is 6/2.0 (using ATG Gold Nm4/3 Adapter).

    • @WMedl
      @WMedl 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stop trolling!
      What would Medium Frame and Large Frame photographers say to Your 15 mm FF lense.
      In German FF is also called "Kleinformat" ("small format") to differentiate this small format to medium e.g. 6x6 and large formats (8x8 and more!!!!).
      Do not behave as if FF would be the center form which every thing should be evaluated!

    • @angelisone
      @angelisone 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @WMedi, you still confused & got fooled all those years.
      Bet you didn't know Hasselblad is no longer using German optics.
      Hasselblad owners is China.
      So China has one of the best camera system in the world follow by Japan.
      I never stated that this lenses in 15mm (based on 24mmX36mm) lenses.
      Peter, my reviewer & I are referring common based 35mm format cameras, which now come in m4/3, 1.5 & 1.6 reduction opening.
      While my Chinese camera is a APS medium format, H6D-100c (40mmX53.4mm).
      Not 60mmX60mm nor 60mmX45mm.

    • @WMedl
      @WMedl 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@angelisone What does the ownership of Hasselblad have to do with the focal length of a lens?
      Yes 6x6 and higher have been used till today for film - but except for electronic control from the body each film lens can be mounted on a digital camera given an adapter (and the flange distance allows that). And as both Hasselblad and Phase One offer digital and analog backs the same lenses can be used!
      The focal length of a lens is INDEPENDENT of any sensor! If You mount a so called FF lens (may be named only according its mount) on a M4/3 body will the focal length be changed? Of course not, what is changed is the scaling factor (in German Abbildungsmaßstab) that is a cropped image will be achieved.. And vice verse if you mount (if it is technically possible) a so called m4/3 lens on a FF camera it will behave according to its PHYSICAL focal length - with much vignetting!
      Equivalent lenses are defined as those delivering the same scaling factor, that is to multiply the focal length by the according crop factor then each f-stop will let enter the same amount of light to a unit of sensor area! As f-stops are relative to the focal length and for M4/3 cameras the equivalent focal length will be half of FF focal length the halving of aperture diameter will be compensated by the halving of the focal length. The illuminated area will be a quarter of the FF lens but also the sensor area is a quarter so a quarter of light to a quarter of area will result in the same amount of illumination.
      Of course as far as depth of field is concerned the cropping will enhance it according to the crop factor - so do not confuse those issues! If the images will not be cropped the DoF will remain stable!

    • @angelisone
      @angelisone 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @WMedl, I was referring to many once well known companies are now owned by Asian.
      And Asian has surpassed Canada, Europe & USA optics.
      ATG/DJI own Hasselblad. They fired many greedy CEOs & controlled now great systems.
      I liked using the Rollei 40mm f/3.5 Super Angulon HFT PQ on Sony & Olympus (proper ATG adapters) and use any flash or monolight to sync up to 1/1,000.
      The lenses become 28mm @F2.5 [xx X 0.70 (not 0.726)] & 1 stop faster.

    • @Biosynchro
      @Biosynchro 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is not a scam. Its focal length is 7.5mm. And its aperture is f/2. That is as absolute as its mass or its width, or the number of elements that comprise it.
