For me none of this worked, my graphics driver was updated already, I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, performing a roll back of the Nvidia driver to a previous stable version. Stopped and started the Nvidia processes in the services app, tried all the hacks I possibly could in the display settings section, none worked. I remembered that recently I had turned the "Intel Virtual Technology" feature ON from the BIOS settings for a software I wanted to use, so I turned it back OFF, and my second monitor immediately came back on. That was it. For any other folks who might have the same problem.

I have this problem where both NVIDIA control panel and display settings only detects the second monitor but shows a duplicate screen on both monitors. I think it could be due to the fact that I have an HDMI splitter and my pc only has one HDMI port.
An HDMI splitter will send the same video signal to both monitors. Therefore, you will not be able to extend the displays using an HDMI splitter, if that is what you are attempting to do.
I just got a second monitor and, like this video says, both monitors appear in the Display Settings menu, but only one, my primary, works. But I don't have NVIDIA at all. I use AMD. I have an AMD Radeon RX580 graphics card. I have AMD Software Adrenalin Edition and also AMD Software PRO Edition. For PRO, it's Enterprise 22. For Adrenalin Edition, it's Adrenalin 23. So, in my case, what do I do?
I just bought a new HP laptop and per the MS support, if I'm trying to use a display splitter extend display to more than one external monitor, you won't be able to. The splitter is duplicating the same original signal instead of creating two independent signals. My laptop only has one video output port, which by default only supports a single external monitor. I need to support one more monitor by using the splitter, but again it won't work :-(. I also bought a new splitter, again didn't work. Do you suggest I need an USB to video output splitter? This is extremely frustrating. Thanks in advance!

I only have 1 hdm1 and that next the the power cable and the other hdm1 is at the very top of the tower and thats where my second monitors plugged in. I cant figure this out at all.
It seems that your computer has both an integrated graphics card and a separate graphics card. Windows will typically only use your separate graphics card and if your NVIDIA graphics card has only one HDMI port, then it can be difficult to connect more than one monitor to your system. If you are not interested in extending your display, where you can have different content on each monitor, then you can use a HDMI splitter. This will duplicate both displays, in that you will see the exact same content on both monitors. However, if you want to extend the displays, you can use the Thunderbolt port of your computer if it has one to connect to the second monitor. Another option is to use a USB to HDMI adapter to connect your second monitor.
What monitors are you looking at this Black Friday? Let me know!

Thank you man, it helped!
